ZANU PF has dismissed allegations by former Botswana President Ian Khama that it interfered in regional electoral processes to support fellow ruling parties.
The party’s Director for Information and Publicity denied any involvement in elections in neighbouring countries and accused Khama of being a Western stooge engaged in regime change efforts.
He also claimed that Khama is unpopular in his own country and is likely to lose the upcoming elections. Said Marapira (<a href="https://newziana.co.zw/zanu-pf-dismisses-ex-president-khamas-electoral-accusations/">New Ziana</a>):

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who chairs the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, has praised Mozambicans for their peaceful participation in the Presidential, Legislative, and Provincial Elections held on October 9.
However, in a statement, she expressed concern over the murders of Paulo Guambe, a PODEMOS political party representative, and Elvino Dias, the party’s lawyer, on October 19, 2024.
President Suluhu Hassan urged Mozambican authorities to take all necessary measures to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted. Said Suluhu Hassan:

SADC Organ Chair Hails Peaceful Elections In Mozambique

A faction of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) party, primarily composed of members loyal to former leader Nelson Chamisa, has voiced its opposition to Zimbabwe’s bid for readmission into the Commonwealth under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.
The Commonwealth, or the Commonwealth of Nations, is a political association of 56 member countries, most of which were former territories of the British Empire.
The organization promotes peace, democracy, and development, providing a platform for member states to collaborate on various issues.
In a statement, party spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi outlined reasons why the Commonwealth should reject Zimbabwe’s application to rejoin the group under the current government.
Mkwananzi criticised the general elections held in August 2023, describing them as “deeply flawed” and marred by significant voter intimidation, manipulation by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), and unresolved irregularities in vote tallying.
He also pointed out the ongoing incarceration of faction leader Jameson Timba and other party activists since June 2024, among other issues. Said Mkwananzi:

In addition to the failed electoral system, the opposition faces unprecedented attacks. Our members, including Amos Chibaya and Senator Timba, have been unjustly arrested and detained without trial, while others remain behind bars under politically motivated charges.
The fraudulent recall of 15 MPs and 17 councillors by individuals unaffiliated with our party demonstrates the regime’s subversion of democratic norms.
Further, the funds meant for our party have been diverted to imposters, rendering us financially constrained in fighting for democracy.
Zimbabwe’s judiciary has been captured by the executive, with rulings that consistently favour the government while disregarding constitutional rights.
Chief Justice Luke Malaba’s tenure extension, ruled unconstitutional by legal experts, casts a shadow over the judiciary’s credibility.
Corruption scandals such as the ZESA and Kuvimba Mining House cases continue to erode public trust, while the victims of state-sponsored violence, including opposition members, still await justice.

Mkwananzi added that, given these gross violations of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, the Commonwealth should reject Zimbabwe’s application for readmission until genuine reforms are implemented.
He said that Zimbabwe must restore democratic integrity and accountability before it can be welcomed back into the international community.

Former Chamisa Loyalists In CCC Opposed To Zimbabwe's Commonwealth Readmission Under Mnangagwa

Zimbabwe’s main opposition party, the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC), reportedly owes its workers over US$1.2 million in salary arrears accumulated over two years.
According to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200033908/ccc-burns-over-us12m-salary-arrears">NewsDay</a>, these employees, contracted before the party split, were assigned various roles in the technical department between 2022 and 2023 and were promised salary payments upon disbursement of political party funds.
The CCC has since split into three factions following the departure of party leader Nelson Chamisa in January this year.
The factions, led by Jameson Timba, Welshman Ncube, and Sengezo Tshabangu, are currently battling for control of the financial allocation under the political parties fund.
Employees who spoke to NewsDay expressed frustration, stating that party leaders have not addressed their concerns.
Each worker is owed between US$10,000 and US$50,000 over the 24 months. The workers, who claim they are not aligned with any CCC faction, have threatened legal action against party leaders.
The Timba-led CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi confirmed the issue of salary arrears to NewsDay. He said:

The employees were due to be paid through the political grant which has been diverted to impostors. We implore those with the money to consider and prioritise the workers in this situation.

Tshabangu’s personal assistant Nqobizitha Mlilo also acknowledged the debt. He said:

Senator Tshabangu is aware of this issue. When he became aware of the issue, he requested to be furnished with the various contracts of the employees. He is now in possession of those contracts.

The Welshman-Ncube-led CCC spokesperson Willias Madzimure said he was not aware of the issue, but acknowledged that there were individuals employed by the party. Said Madzimure:

There is a need to authenticate who were the employees, so the office of the secretary-general is better placed to respond to that.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, October 21, Hwende denied that the party owed its workers US$1.2 million.
He added that they will receive CCC’s ZiG22,116,500 from the ZiG70 million allocated to political parties that participated in the August 2023 harmonised elections. He wrote:

Despite Mnangagwa’s repeated assertions that he will respect the Constitution and step down at the end of his term, <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/zimbabwes-state-security-agencies-sniff-out-political-dissidents/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> has cited high-ranking Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), army intelligence, and police officials who claim a secretive and widespread operation is targeting outspoken individuals labelled as “political dissidents” across Zimbabwe.
The plan reportedly involves arresting and detaining key opposition figures, activists, and journalists on trumped-up charges ahead of ZANU PF’s congress in 2027. Said a source:

Zimbabwe’s State Security Agencies Target Political Dissenters In Covert Operation

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) self-declared secretary-general, Sengezo Tshabangu, was reported to have been moved to the ICU of a hospital in Switzerland following a sudden illness upon his arrival.
According to The Standard, Tshabangu was in Switzerland to attend the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, where he is a member of the IPU Standing Committee on Sustainable Development Goals.
He arrived in Switzerland on a Friday for the assembly, which ran from October 12 to 17, 2024.
The publication reported a source close to Tshabangu, as saying he experienced severe stomach pains shortly after landing, leading to his immediate hospitalisation due to suspected food poisoning.
The source said that Tshabangu was fine throughout the flight, and the illness was sudden.
Tshabangu received prompt medical attention and was admitted to the ICU at one point because his condition was critical. As a result, he never got the opportunity to attend the event.
When contacted by The Standard, Tshabangu appeared to acknowledge his illness, saying he was recovering.
Tshabangu’s personal assistant, Nqobizitha Mlilo, confirmed that Tshabangu was on the mend and had returned to his normal duties.

Sengezo Tshabangu from CCC got very sick in Switzerland and had to go to the ICU. He was supposed to attend a meeting there but couldn't because of his sudden illness. He had stomach pain and was suspected of food poisoning. He got medical help quickly and is now recovering. He missed the event but is back to work. He got sick right after arriving in Switzerland. He is feeling better now.

Tshabangu Moved To ICU After Sudden Illness In Switzerland

Former opposition Member of Parliament Eddie Cross believes that Nelson Chamisa, the former leader of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC), missed a golden opportunity to advance his political career by declining an offer to become the leader of the opposition in Parliament.
Following the disputed 2018 presidential election, reports indicated that President Emmerson Mnangagwa offered Chamisa the position, which he reportedly rejected.
In an online podcast, Cross said accepting the role could have elevated Chamisa’s profile and increased his chances of eventually defeating ZANU PF, but he displayed arrogance by turning it down. Cross also accused the opposition of running down cities and towns where they dominate councils, saying this demonstrates how they would govern the country.
He said unlike, South Africa’s Democratic Alliance (DA), CCC activists have created a mess in the cities and towns they control. Said Cross:

Look at the mess our cities are in. Has Chamisa made any difference to the administration of our cities, and to the quality of life of our people?
At least the DA in South Africa has made the Western Cape a success, but here every city run by CCC is just as rotten as it would have been under ZANU PF.
If Chamisa had any sense, whatsoever, he could have turned his power base into a real weapon of change.

However, the opposition attributes the poor state of cities and towns to the central government, accusing the Ministry of Local Government of undermining local authorities by interfering in their affairs.

Cross Criticises Chamisa For Rejecting Leader Of Opposition In Parliament Position

Jabulani Nkomo, son of the late Vice-President John Landa Nkomo, has been barred from attending the upcoming ZANU PF annual conference.
His name was removed from the accreditation list for Matabeleland North Province for the conference set to be held in Bulawayo.
While ZANU PF provincial structures have been accrediting delegates, the process appears to be plagued by factional conflicts.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200033699/late-vps-son-banished-from-zanu-pf-conference">NewsDay</a>, Nkomo said he was told that his name was not on the accreditation list. He said:

My name was on the list from Tsholotsho district to our Lupane provincial office for accreditation for the party’s forthcoming conference as a provincial member elected by Tsholotsho district.
Surprisingly, it disappeared along the way and was nowhere to be found. I have lodged my complaint with the relevant offices, hence I can’t comment any further.

ZANU PF insiders claim that provincial chairperson Richard Moyo conspired with his allies to remove Jabulani’s name at the last minute.
Jabulani was reportedly replaced by Moyo’s allies, including former Senator Believe Gaule, who is not part of the current provincial structure.
Gaule denied the allegations and referred NewsDay to Moyo.
Moyo, who is also the Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister, said:

It is not my duty to accredit delegates, therefore, I was never involved in coming up with the list of delegates. If ever there is such a case, why should the person be removed?

NewsDay reported sources as saying the discord within the party began in May when Jabulani was appointed to the provincial coordinating committee after a new position of provincial deputy member for local government was created.
During a meeting to co-opt a new member, both Jabulani and Gaule were nominated, necessitating an election to fill the post.
It is claimed that Gaule pulled out of the election, but then some influential party members tried to replace Jabulani with Gaule.

Son Of Late Vice President Barred From ZANU PF Conference

Three factions of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) party are embroiled in a struggle for control over funds allocated by the Treasury under the Political Parties (Finance) Act.
The ruling ZANU PF party received the largest share, with approximately ZiG$48 million, while the CCC was awarded just over ZiG$22 million.
One CCC faction, led by Jameson Timba, has filed an urgent High Court application seeking an order to prevent the Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ziyambi Ziyambi, from disbursing the funds until the party’s leadership disputes are resolved.
In response, Welshman Ncube, the leader of another CCC faction, has applied to be joined as a party to the proceedings, arguing that he has a real and substantial interest in the matter but was omitted from the initial application.
Meanwhile, Sengezo Tshabangu, the leader of a third CCC faction, has filed a notice of opposition challenging Ncube’s claim to be the acting president of the party.
Tshabangu argues that Ncube’s claims are baseless and not supported by any facts. His notice reads in part:

The deponent is not the acting president of the applicant. He has not attached any annexure to substantiate his averment.
It is trite that in motion proceedings, an applicant stands and falls on his or her pleadings of the facts of his or her case.
No facts have been pleaded generally, and specifically with reference to the first applicant’s constitution, same attached on page 101 if the Applicants application, to support the deponent’s averment that he is in fact the acting president of the applicant.
On the version of the deponent, and in particular paragraph 27, the deponent alleges that he became acting president on account of the resignation of the then president, Mr Nelson Chamisa.
He does not aver that there was an extraordinary Congress of the applicant as peremptorily required by the 1ts applicant’s constitution, and by law.
In the result, and again on his version, the deponent is not, and has never been the lawful acting president of the first applicant.

Three groups in the CCC party are fighting over money given by the government. ZANU PF got ZiG$48 million while the CCC got ZiG$22 million. Jameson Timba wants to stop the money from being given out until their leadership issues are fixed. Welshman Ncube also wants to be part of the decision because he thinks he has a say in the matter. Sengezo Tshabangu is against Ncube saying he is the president of the party. They are all fighting over who should control the money.

CCC Factions Fight Over Money

The latest Afrobarometer survey in Zimbabwe shows that 8 out of 10 Zimbabweans (79%) support constitutional provisions limiting the president to a maximum of two five-year terms.
The survey found strong support for the current constitutional arrangement that limits the president to two terms.
Support for presidential term limits is higher among men (81%) than women (76%), and higher in urban areas (85%) compared to rural areas (74%).
The level of education also correlates with support for term limits, rising from 69% among those with primary schooling or less to 87% among those with tertiary education.
The survey also found that about two-thirds (68%) of Zimbabweans favour having multiple political parties to ensure voters can select their leaders.
Again, support for multiparty competition is higher among the more educated (80%) and urban residents (71%) compared to those with secondary schooling or less (60-66%) and rural residents (65%).
Just 20 per cent of respondents supported scrapping these term limits, while only 1 per cent said they “don’t know” or declined to offer an opinion.
Geographically, Mashonaland West province exhibits the highest support for multiparty competition at 85%, in contrast to only 59% in Harare.
The Afrobarometer team in Zimbabwe, led by the Mass Public Opinion Institute (MPOI), conducted face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adult citizens between June 1 and June 15, 2024.
Overall, the Afrobarometer findings suggest strong public opposition to any moves to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rule beyond the constitutionally mandated two terms, with the more educated and urban Zimbabweans being the most vocal in their rejection of such attempts.

Former ZANU PF Central Committee member and independent candidate for Mwenezi West, Tafadzwa Masvayamwando Shumba, has labelled the ruling party as an “evil” institution, saying many people are suffering because of it.
He made these comments while speaking to mourners at his mother Clara Shumba’s funeral in Rutenga last week, reported <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/zanu-pf-is-evil-former-central-committee-member/">The Mirror</a>.
Clara Shumba, the late Mwenezi West legislator Isaac Shumba’s wife, was declared a provincial war hero.
Tafadzwa, a former member of the ZANU PF National Consultative Assembly, became an independent candidate due to alleged widespread rigging attributed to Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ) and CIO operatives during the party’s tumultuous primary elections ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.
Priscilla Zindari-Moyo, the wife of CIO director Isaac Moyo, was declared the winner of that primary election.
During the lead-up to the August 2023 elections, Tafadzwa’s Toyota GD6 was reportedly hijacked at gunpoint and subsequently set on fire near Chirindi Township after he challenged Moyo.
He told mourners that important family business documents were lost in the fire and that his mother’s health declined after police concluded their investigation without identifying any suspects. Said Shumba:

ZANU PF is evil. Everyone knows the people who burnt the car and they are walking freely. I want to tell those from the President’s office to listen carefully and report correctly.
We are now orphans because of ZANU PF. My father, my mother and I worked for that party and this is what we are getting in return. I rue the day my father decided to join politics.
My mother walked a very long distance running away from soldiers after someone sold out that she was feeding freedom fighters.
They declared her a provincial liberation hero but they are not here because they know what they did. Many people are suffering because of ZANU PF.

However, ZANU PF Masvingo provincial chairman Rabson Mavhenyengwa said that Shumba was lying, pointing out that senior ZANU PF members, including Otilia Maluleke, the Politburo deputy secretary for economic development and empowerment, as well as Matabeleland South senator Tambudzani Mohadi, attended the funeral but were not allowed to speak.
Mavhenyengwa also said that Tafadzwa is an opposition to ZANU PF so he can say whatever he wants to tarnish their party.
He further claimed that some individuals chose not to attend the funeral after being threatened by Tafadzwa.
ZANU PF reportedly targeted its former members who ran as independents in Masvingo, which led to the controversial death of Gutu West independent candidate Christopher Mutonhori Rwodzi, who died in what was described as a freak car accident along the Chivhu-Mpandawana highway a few weeks before the national elections.

A man called Tafadzwa Shumba who used to be in a party called ZANU PF says the party is evil. He said this at his mother's funeral. His mother was important in the party. Another person who went against the party died in a car crash.

Former ZANU PF Central Committee Member Calls Party "Evil"

ZANU PF members in Masvingo District are reportedly dissatisfied with the return of former politburo member Dzikamai Mavhaire to the party.
Mavhaire, who previously served as Minister of Energy and Power Development, along with his son Lawrence and former MDC-T MP for Gutu Central Oliver Chirume, was among several people paraded at State House last month in the presence of party leader President Emmerson Mnangagwa as new members of the ruling party.
However, Mavhaire’s reintegration into ZANU PF has sparked discontent, with the Masvingo District Coordinating Committee claiming that proper procedures were not followed, as they did not recommend his return.
Sources within the party, as reported by <a href="https://tellzim.com/outcry-over-mavhaires-return-to-zanu-pf/">TellZim News</a>, indicated that Mavhaire’s readmission was imposed by the Provincial and National executive, bypassing the usual protocol where the district makes a recommendation to the Provincial Coordinating Committee, which then forwards it to the national executive. Said the source:

We were shocked to just see pictures of Mavhaire with the President and the provincial leadership. Protocol was not observed as we at the district are supposed to receive a letter from an appellant who is seeking re-admission. We then recommend or decline. If we accept the appellant we then recommend it to the province and then national.

When reached for comment, Masvingo DCC Chairperson Tawanda Dube said that Mavhaire has not yet been introduced to the district, as his readmission originated from the national executive. Said Dube:

Yes, Cde Mavhaire is back in the party but procedurally he is yet to be introduced to us as the district. His admission came from the national executive. However, we are happy as a district that he is back.

ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial Chairperson Robson Mavhenyengwa said there is nothing wrong with Mavhaire’s readmission coming from the national executive, considering he is a former Politburo member. Said Mavhenyengwa:

Cde Mavhaire was a politburo member and that is why his admission came from the top. It is normal and if the President or any other authority asks us to welcome a returnee then who are we to refuse? In fact he had been a member of ZANU PF and he had just decided to come back home to others.

Other sources within ZANU PF suggested that Mavhaire was hesitant to approach the district executive, fearing it would undermine his stature.
There was a possibility that his appeal would be rejected, which is why he opted to approach the national executive instead. Said the source:

Mavhaire is a threat to many in the province so he saw that the district would mock and block his return considering his proximity to former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Nelson Chamisa. Many feel threatened by his return, even other provincial executive members.

Mavhaire gained notoriety in 1997 after publicly calling for President Robert Mugabe’s resignation in parliament, which resulted in his expulsion from ZANU PF.
Following his departure from the party, he reportedly became a vendor in Masvingo, selling oranges from a rundown vehicle.
After some time, Mavhaire was readmitted to ZANU PF, and in 2012, he had a dispute with fellow party member Paul Mangwana regarding the implementation of the Indigenisation law.
He argued that the law, which required foreign-owned companies to transfer 51 per cent of their shares to locals, should not apply to Bikita Minerals, where he was already a shareholder.
This disagreement led Mugabe and then-Indigenisation Minister Saviour Kasukuwere to postpone the community share ownership scheme.
Allegedly involved in a plot to oust Mugabe, Mavhaire subsequently lost his position in the ZANU PF Politburo.
He was expelled from the party on May 21, 2015, after being dismissed from his role as Minister of Energy, along with six other senior members.
In the lead-up to the March 2022 by-elections, Mavhaire remarked that ZANU PF did not have a “divine right” to govern indefinitely and encouraged voters to support the opposition CCC.
Having recently joined CCC, he claimed that voting for ZANU PF was tantamount to ruining the country.

ZANU PF members in Masvingo are upset that former member Mavhaire is back in the party without the district's approval. Masvingo ZANU PF Members Unhappy With Mavhaire's Return

Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has said there should be a governance framework that includes the diverse perspectives of all citizens, irrespective of their political affiliations.
In an exclusive interview with the <a href="https://www.theindependent.co.zw/local-news/article/200032854/chamisa-bounces-back-to-active-politics">Zimbabwe Independent</a>, Chamisa said that this inclusive framework should be established by 2028, in time for the next general elections. He said:

The first thing we have to fix is the politics. And that we will fix before 2028. We fix politics by making sure that we have a for-everyone-governance framework.
A framework that accommodates diverse views — those in ZANU PF are Zimbabwean, those in other political parties are Zimbabwean. And for that reason, we must have a conversation.
And not just a conversation, but a synthesis. Any society is built on a synthesis. There is a thesis, which is the dominant opinion. There is an antithesis, which is the alternative opinion.
But there must be a government that is a synthesis, combining both the thesis and the antithesis.

Chamisa asserted that politics should not be viewed as a zero-sum game—where one party’s gain is precisely balanced by another party’s loss.
Instead, he advocated for a framework that integrates both dominant and opposing views to foster the country’s advancement. He said:

We do not have that uniting agent, the uniting force. The government must be the melting pot for society, for the nation, and for the people, to move the whole country forward.
This is not a zero-sum game, to say I have managed to come through the window so I am not the one occupying the whole house. It won’t work. It is archaic and antiquated.
You ask others because they have better views about how to run a country they can also contribute.

Chamisa said that if elected president in 2028, his administration would prioritise identifying key industries for growth and creating job opportunities for Zimbabweans.
He also proposed establishing a Citizens Affairs Department to address public concerns and conduct regular citizen satisfaction surveys. Said Chamisa:

There will be a citizen affairs department designed just to deal with citizen grievances.
All citizen queries, gaps, anxieties, hopes, and questions, are answered there.
Apart from the citizen affairs department, we will have a citizens’ satisfaction survey.

Chamisa said he will create a government that plans for every citizen’s future from birth, ensuring access to education, jobs, social welfare, and essential resources.
He also proposed an education system where universities operate independently of presidential control, allowing professional and industry experts to lead.
Chamisa lost to President Emmerson Mnangagwa in elections in 2018 and 2023. He resigned from the CCC in January, citing infiltration by ZANU PF, and since then, the opposition party has fragmented into several factions.

Chamisa Proposes Inclusive Governance Framework That Goes Beyond Political Affiliation

Police have barred the opposition United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) party from holding a meeting at a private venue in Harare on Sunday, citing concerns over potential demonstrations in the central business district (CBD).
UZA, led by Elisabeth Valerio—the only female presidential candidate in the 2023 election—had notified the police of its plans to convene a meeting on 29 September 2024 at the Bronte Hotel on Baines Avenue.
In response to UZA’s notification, Chief Superintendent M. Mumanyi, the Officer Commanding Harare Central District, issued a letter dated September 27, 2024, advising the party that the meeting could not proceed. Wrote Mumanyi:

Receipt of your notification letter to hold a political meeting on the 29th of September 2024 at Bronte Hotel, Baines Avenue, Harare is hereby acknowledged.
This office however regrets to notify that due to threats of demonstrations in the CBD. your intended meeting is not recommended in the meantime.

Valerio accused the police of acting in a partisan manner, saying a ZANU PF affiliate is hosting a political launch event at the City Sports Centre without any restrictions whilst UZA has been blocked from holding a meeting at a private venue. She said:

What threat does UZA pose at a private venue with our peaceful patriots? Ironically a ZANU PF affiliate is hosting a political launch event at the City Sports Centre with no restrictions relating to threats of protests.
This latest blow comes less than 48 hours after the National Multi-Stakeholder Post-Election Review Conference hosted by ZEC, during which concerns about fairness were raised.
Opposition parties are repeatedly denied the right to assemble under the guise of “security concerns,” while privileged parties face no such restrictions. It is troubling that this inequality continues!

Under the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (MOPO), political parties must notify the police before holding public meetings or processions.
A notice of five days is required before any public meeting. The convenor must provide the police with specific details about the event, including the contact number of the designated convenor, the venue, the time, the purpose of the event, the number of marshals, and the anticipated number of participants.
Failure to provide this notice can result in charges, fines, or imprisonment for up to one year.

The police stopped the UZA party from having a meeting in Harare because they were worried about protests. Police Block UZA Meeting In Harare

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the government will create pathways for sustainable economic growth while protecting citizens from economic sabotage and greed-driven actions.
Addressing the 378th Ordinary Session of the ZANU PF Politburo at the party’s headquarters in Harare on Wednesday, 25 September, Mnangagwa condemned what he considers to be attacks on the economy that harm ordinary people and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding Zimbabweans from economic disruptions.
Mnangagwa said the country is making significant progress despite challenges like sanctions, climate change, and global economic issues. He added:

Acts of economic sabotage, and speculative and counter-productive tendencies by those who thrive on greed and profiteering have no place in our country.
Attacks on the economy to make the public suffer are unacceptable and my Government will protect the ordinary people.

The warning comes in light of soaring prices for essential grocery items, particularly in formal retail outlets, alongside the rapid decline of the local currency, the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG).
Mnangagwa urged ZANU PF structures to take decisive action against threats to the party’s unity. He said:

Mnangagwa Vows To Protect Citizens From "Greedy" Businesses

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) acting president Welshman Ncube said during the later years of former President Robert Mugabe’s administration, the situation was significantly better, as corruption was not as entrenched as it is under the so-called “Second Republic.”
Mugabe was compelled to resign amid the threat of impeachment by Parliament, shortly after the military initiated “Operation Restore Legacy,” a euphemism for the November 2017 military coup.
A few weeks later, his former Deputy, Emmerson Mnangagwa, was inaugurated as Zimbabwe’s President, subsequently winning elections in 2018 and 2023.
Speaking at victory celebrations for Tsholotsho Ward 1 (Gxoboholo) councillor Witness Khumalo, who was elected in August 2023, Ncube accused Mnangagwa’s government of being blatantly and selfishly greedy. That is why those who say they rule, rule people’s poverty in Zimbabwe. They will be looking out for their own stomachs and children only.

He would steal using a fork and knife, but the leaders of today steal without even thinking of sharing a bit with others…
They are not even hiding it, they just flaunt it to your face. But you as a Zimbabwean are suffering from the same drought, and poverty.
There are no jobs, but where you work, what you earn does not even last you a week.

Since the resignation of founding leader Nelson Chamisa earlier this year, citing infiltration by ZANU PF, the Citizens Coalition for Change has fractured into several factions.
Three distinct groups have emerged: one led by Welshman Ncube, another headed by Sengezo Tshabangu, who is reportedly backed by the State, and a third faction led by Jameson Timba, a former senator.

Welshman Ncube, from the CCC, says Zimbabwe was better under Mugabe than under Mnangagwa. He thinks corruption is worse now. Mugabe was forced to resign in 2017, and Mnangagwa became president. Ncube thinks the government now is only greedy and selfish. He says people are suffering while leaders get rich. The CCC has split into three groups since Nelson Chamisa left. Ncube leads one group, Tshabangu another, and Timba the third. Zimbabwe is facing problems of drought, poverty, and unemployment.

Mugabe Was Better Than Mnangagwa - Welshman Ncube

ZANU PF has resolved to reduce the number of delegates attending the 21st Annual National People’s Conference, scheduled to take place at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair grounds in Bulawayo from October 22 to 27.
The announcement was made by the party’s National Chairperson, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, following her address at the third meeting of the National Coordinating Committee, held at the party headquarters in Harare on Friday, September 20.
Muchinguri-Kashiri said that this year’s delegate count would be significantly lower than in previous conferences. Said Muchinguri-Kashiri (via <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/zanu-pf-to-reduce-conference-delegates/">The Herald</a>):

We are happy to report that already, our agenda and programmes for the conference are already in place. We have already agreed on the delegates that will be attending.

We avoided bringing all the lower engines of the party as we used to do in the past because we also learnt best practices from other countries such as China.
They don’t bring a lot of people to a conference. We have also adopted that so the numbers will be quite small and even the inputs and resolutions that will come out of the conference will be rich because of the numbers.
Delegates will debate, argue and do critical thinking.

ZANU PF Cuts Delegate Numbers For Conference

Mozambique’s ruling party, FRELIMO, is set to hold a campaign rally in Chegutu, Mashonaland West Province, this weekend.
The event aims to garner support for the party’s new presidential candidate, Daniel Francisco Chapo (47), who succeeds incumbent President Filipe Nyusi.
An invitation, seen by <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/mozambiques-frelimo-to-hold-rally-to-mobilise-registered-voters-resident-in-zimbabwe/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>, indicates that approximately 300 guests are expected to attend the rally at Chegutu Hall.
Among the key figures expected to address the gathering is Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, ZANU PF’s provincial chairman for Mashonaland West.
She will represent ZANU PF, Zimbabwe’s governing party, which shares a long-standing historical relationship with FRELIMO dating back to the Zimbabwean War of Independence. Wrote Sarah Cossa, Frelimo Chegutu branch chairperson:

Chapo was elected as FRELIMO’s presidential candidate for the October elections after securing a resounding 94.1% of the votes cast by members of the party’s Central Committee.
Currently serving as the governor of Inhambane Province, Chapo’s victory marks a significant moment for FRELIMO, as he becomes the first “born free” candidate for the party.
Born two years after Mozambique gained independence from Portugal in 1975, Chapo represents a new generation of leadership within FRELIMO.
If elected, Chapo will become Mozambique’s fifth democratically elected president since independence. He will follow in the footsteps of Samora Machel, Joachim Chissano, Armando Guebuza, and the current president, Filipe Nyusi, all of whom have led the nation under FRELIMO’s banner.
Chapo graduated with a law degree from Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo in 2000. Following this, he pursued further studies, completing a Conservator and Notary course in 2004 and a master’s degree in Development Management from the Catholic University of Mozambique in 2014.
Beyond his academic pursuits, Chapo has held various positions within the public sector. He has taught Constitutional Law and Political Science, worked as a radio announcer at Rádio Miramar in Beira, and served as a conservator for the Nacala-Porto district.
In 2015, he was appointed administrator of the Palma district in Cabo Delegado Province, and in 2016, he became the governor of Inhambane Province.
Mozambique will hold its seventh presidential and parliamentary elections on October 9. This will also be the second election for provincial governors and the fourth for provincial assemblies.

Mozambique's FRELIMO party is having a rally in Zimbabwe to get support for their new presidential candidate, Daniel Francisco Chapo. The rally will have about 300 guests, including important people from Zimbabwe. Chapo will be the first "born free" candidate for FRELIMO if elected. He has a law degree and has worked in the public sector. The elections in Mozambique will happen on October 9. This will be the seventh presidential and parliamentary election in Mozambique.

Mozambique's FRELIMO To Hold Campaign Rally In Zimbabwe

Former Energy and Power Development Minister Dzikamai Mavhaire, his son Lawrence, and former MDC-T MP for Gutu Central Oliver Chirume have officially rejoined ZANU PF.
They were welcomed back to the ruling party by President Emmerson Mnangagwa during an event at State House in Harare on Wednesday, September 18.
Mavhaire said that he was drawn back to ZANU PF by the country’s promising growth trajectory under the Second Republic. He said:

I just decided as a thinking being, the development being led by President Mnangagwa is very good.
</blockquote>
Also speaking to the media after a closed-door meeting with Mnangagwa at State House, Chirume expressed admiration for the ruling party. Said Chirume:
<blockquote>
I was convinced by Lovemore Matuke [ZANU PF security secretary] to join ZANU PF so that we all work for the development of the country.
I once contested against my brother, Cde Lovemore Matuke, but I saw it fit to join the party that is doing well in developing Zimbabwe.

Over the years, numerous former opposition members and officials have defected to ZANU PF amid a leadership crisis within the opposition ranks.
Currently, the only opposition party represented in Parliament, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has fractured into several factions vying for control.
The party’s founding leader, Nelson Chamisa, resigned in January 2024 after state institutions effectively transferred control to a relatively unknown activist, Sengezo Tshabangu.
Tshabangu went on to recall several CCC MPs and this significantly diminished the party’s representation in Parliament, effectively enabling ZANU PF to secure a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly.
Meanwhile,  Mavhaire became popular in 1997 after openly calling for the resignation of President Robert Mugabe in parliament.
This led to his expulsion from ZANU PF. Following his fallout with the party, Mavhaire allegedly became a vendor in Masvingo where he was said to be selling oranges.
At that time he was said to be driving a ramshackle vehicle from which he sold fruits and vegetables.
Mavhaire was later readmitted to the party and in 2012, he clashed with his ZANU PF colleague Paul Mangwana over the implementation of the Indigenisation law.
He said that the law, under which all foreign-owned companies are forced to cede 51 per cent of their shares to locals, should not apply to Bikita Minerals as he is already a shareholder there.
This prompted Mugabe and the then Indigenisation Minister Saviour Kasukuwere to postpone the community share ownership scheme.
After having been fingered in the plot to oust President Robert Mugabe he went on to lose his post in the central committee and the Politburo.
Mavhaire was expelled from the party on 21 May 2015. This followed his initial dismissal from cabinet as the minister of energy. He was expelled together with other 6 senior members.

Dzikamai Mavhaire, his son, and Oliver Chirume rejoined ZANU PF. They were welcomed by President Mnangagwa. They praised the party for developing the country. Many former opposition members have also joined ZANU PF. The opposition party, CCC, has split into factions. Mavhaire was once expelled from ZANU PF but was later readmitted. He clashed with colleagues over a law affecting foreign-owned companies. He was expelled from the party in 2015. He is now back with ZANU PF.

Dzikamai Mavhaire Rejoins ZANU PF

Controversial Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) activist Sengezo Tshabangu, who claims to be the party’s interim secretary general, said he has not dismissed Welshman Ncube or the entire party leadership. Instead, he has invoked the party constitution regarding the tenure of officebearers.
Through his lawyers, Tshabangu announced over the weekend that the terms of all officials elected at the party’s congress in Gweru in May 2019 have now expired.
He asserted that all former MDC officials, including Welshman Ncube, who served as interim president, can no longer act on behalf of the CCC. The <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/i-have-not-fired-welshman-ncube-and-others-i-shall-soon-appoint-a-steering-committee-to-run-ccc-sengezo-tshabangu-fires-another-salvo/">Chronicle</a> quoted Tshabangu as saying:
<blockquote>
It is misleading to suggest that anyone has been “fired”. The legal opinion expressly deals with interpretation of the party constitution.
Some office bearers offices have expired by operation of law (party constitution) and there is need for the party to operate within the confines of law and constitution.
Anyone with a different opinion/interpretation is welcome to place it on record and it shall be interrogated.

Tshabangu said he will soon be appointing a steering committee that will be in charge of party issues until holding of the Congress. He said:

The interim Secretary General shall institute the working steering committee which shall ensure that the party is reestablished at grassroots level up wards leading to a Congress.

A virtually unknown politician before the August 23, 2023, harmonized elections, Tshabangu rose to prominence after he boldly issued multiple recalls of CCC MPs and councillors, claiming they had ceased to be party members.
His actions received support from key figures, including the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Senate President, and the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, as well as the courts, effectively disrupting the CCC and leading to party leader Nelson Chamisa’s resignation, which he attributed to infiltration by adversaries.
Now a senator, Tshabangu enjoys increased wealth, including a car, a house, and elevated status, allowing him to mingle with Zimbabwe’s political elite.
He is also poised to receive US$1.6 million, which represents CCC’s share of state funds under the Political Parties Finance Act.

Tshabangu Shakes Up CCC Leadership, Declares Welshman Ncube's Mandate Expired

Former opposition leader Nelson Chamisa of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has pledged to implement a comprehensive citizens’ affairs plan focused on data, evidence, and statistical models to tackle Zimbabwe’s brain drain upon assuming office.
Chamisa said the citizens’ affairs plan aims to ensure that university and college graduates can effectively contribute to economic growth and prosperity.
In a statement released on Monday, September 16, Chamisa said he will ensure that the thousands of graduates produced annually by higher education institutions are absorbed in the job market.
He said this will be done by assigning a national identity, social security, citizen number and voter registration identification to each citizen at birth, which will then be activated upon completion of testing and qualification. Said Chamisa:

Our New Citizens government will introduce and roll out a comprehensive citizens’ affairs plan based on data, evidence, figures and statistical models.
Our data-led government model begins at birth and guides each individual citizen’s development throughout their life. This plan will be launched from Day one of the new administration.
Just this past weekend, we had the University of Zimbabwe’s 43rd graduation ceremony. A whopping 6,778 students graduated from the University of Zimbabwe, including 200 medical doctors among the 898 medical specialists, 256 lawyers and 327 engineers.
Sadly, we only had 16 dentists and 83 pharmacists graduating, an area that calls for significant improvement.
Yet, the market has no corresponding absorption capacity on account of the industry shrinking due to the economic and political environment.
We produce graduates but we have no viable market absorption plan to cater for the trained professionals we spew out year in and out.
Despite the huge investments made especially by students and sacrifices by families in these difficult times, there is currently no effective citizens’ affairs plan to provide these graduates with a clear career path.
This lack of opportunity and strategic planning means that our nation’s investment in education often fails to yield meaningful returns which could move us forward as a country.
We then suffer a significant brain drain and a human capital haemorrhage with our shining young talent building other nations outside of Zimbabwe.
Too many graduates either leave to seek greener pastures and employment opportunities abroad or remain unemployed at home, joining the thousands already struggling without gainful employment or enterprise.
Only by implementing a radical, elaborate, thoughtful and inclusive citizens’ affairs plan can educational achievements be transformed into tangible growth and prosperity for all, for everyone and for the whole nation!
As a proposal, these issue should be addressed from birth through rigorous system that from birth assigns a national identity assigning each citizen a birth, identity, social security, citizen number and voter registration identification to be triggered active when the testing and qualification is completed.
Through this level of monitoring and relationship with other data across the economic and social sectors, there is an opportunity to ensure when each student graduates with a qualification, the job market is ready to receive them with the most ideal opportunity best placed to move forward our country’s transformational and developmental needs.
This idea of graduates being jobless or trained professionals joining the jobless heap must be and will be a thing of the past.

Chamisa Promises Data-Driven Plan To Address Joblessness

Disputed leader of the CCC, Sengezo Tshabangu, received $1.6 million form the government as part of government funding political parties get after every election. Tshabangu, NewsHawks reports, received the money last week as government recognised leader of the CCC, the party he wrestled from Nelson Chamisa.
According to the Political Parties (Finance) Act, parties that manage to get at least 5% of the vote receive funding from the government 
The government disbursed ZiG47 ,883,500 to Zanu PF and ZiG22,116,500 to CCC. The government official rate is 13.9 converting the CCC portion to $1.6m.
Government takes the money from Treasury, which is funded by taxes levied on ordinary Zimbabweans when they buy goods, import goods into Zimbabwe, or when they transact electronically.
Tshabangu seemed to appear out of nowhere to challenge Nelson Chamisa authority when he, claiming to CCC Secretary General, sent a letter to parliament recalling elected CCC MPs from parliament. Strangely the Speaker of Parliament acknowledged and acted on the recall letters, despite Chamisa and other senior CCC leaders protesting that there was Secretary General post in the CCC.
When the CC approached the courts to rid Tshabangu of the power, they lost case, in a development many described as capture of the CCC by Zanu PF through the courts. Chamisa <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2024/01/25/chamisa-i-no-longer-have-anything-to-do-with-ccc/">eventually quit the CCC in frustration.</a> Tshabangu later appointed himself Senator and leader of the opposition in parliament.

After the election, Sengezo Tshabangu got $1.6 million from the government for his party CCC. The government gives money to parties that get at least 5% of the vote. The money comes from taxes paid by people buying things or doing transactions. Tshabangu became CCC leader, causing confusion with Nelson Chamisa. Chamisa quit the CCC because of the situation. Tshabangu used the money for his party, making him more powerful in politics.

Tshabangu Receives US $1.6 Million CCC Party Funding

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s quest to extend his term beyond the constitutional limit in 2028 is likely to face resistance, as the military, which is the traditional political power broker in Zimbabwe is opposed such moves, reported The NewsHawks.
While Mnangagwa has repeatedly declared that he is a constitutionalist and will not seek an extension beyond 2028, critics remain skeptical of his intentions.
The NewsHawks has reported that military sources indicate Mnangagwa will be prevented from pursuing any constitutional changes aimed at prolonging his presidency, despite demands from his party, ZANU PF.
The report suggests that the military will leverage its institutional and hard power to thwart any attempts at altering the succession process. The NewsHawks quoted a military source on Friday as saying:

The army is clear on this issue. Very very clear. The President has to serve his constitutional second term and retire in 2028.
Let’s not forget that he was not supposed to run for a second term in the first place from the military perspective.
Although publicly he seems to be in agreement that he will retire in 2028, in political circles he is speaking a different language and giving different signals, clandestinely encouraging his core supporters to push for a constitutional amendment for him to stay on until 2030.
That has no takers in the security forces beyond a few individuals who agree with that for self-interest. Even among the public, it is not a popular proposal.

A recent report by the local think tank Zimbabwe Democracy Institute says the military will not remain a passive observer in the processes of selecting a new leader within ZANU PF and, ultimately, in the country. Reads part of the report:

It is abundantly clear that the military has played a decisive role in Zimbabwean politics. As ZANU PF continues to grapple with a colossal succession battle, the role of the military in intra-party politics will become apparent in the decisive phase, although at this moment that role has not been shown overtly.
Due to the politico-military nexus, the military will not be an innocent bystander in the processes to select a new leader in ZANU PF and ultimately of the Republic.
It is highly likely that, as the military has done before, it will exercise veto power in the election or selection of the ZANU PF leadership.
According to the military, the office of the head of state is a straitjacket whose incumbent must meet certain attributes, particularly possessing military credentials.
The same credentials can be said to also apply to the office of ZANU PF first secretary. Thus, the successor to President Mnangagwa is likely to be a military man, not a civilian politician.
Whether it will be Vice-President Chiwenga or not is a subject of further inquiry, but the likelihood of a military man or military-backed candidate is inevitable and inescapable.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa wants to stay president past 2028, but the army doesn't want him to. They say he must follow the constitution and step down in 2028. Even though Mnangagwa says he won't seek an extension, some people don't trust him. The army is powerful in Zimbabwe and may choose the next leader. They want someone with military experience to take over. The army might use their power to stop any changes that would let Mnangagwa stay as president for longer. The situation is still uncertain, but the military's influence is strong.

Army Roadblock For Presidential Term Extension

WELEAD founder, Namatai Kwekweza, says her abduction and torture by State agents ahead of the SADC Summit will not deter her from the pursuit of truth, Justice, and freedom for Zimbabweans. Below is Kwekweza’s statement:

With a stubborn hope, strengthened resolve, and clarity of purpose I write to you with the deepest utmost gratitude for the love, solidarity, and support that Robson Chere, Samuel Gwenzi, and I have received which has warmed my heart.
The love and solidarity have come from many Zimbabweans and people from around the world and it deeply inspires me to have a sense of humility, hope, and courage to continue the struggle for a better Zimbabwe even after our horrific ordeal.
The messages, the prayers, the legal support, the medical support, practical assistance, and keyboard warriors have all worked together to ensure our release and it is this solidarity that kept my brothers in the struggle and me strong until day 35 when we were released on bail.
I have also received a lot of love and solidarity from the 29 courageous women who were arrested on the 16th of June along with James Timba.
The world must know that they are still at Chikurubi Maximum Female Prison and they have suffered a great deal from the brutal beatings they were subjected to on the 16th of June.
These are the people who took care of me when I arrived at Chikurubi Prison, traumatized and in pain, and the people who gave me the hope and resolve to remain strong until my release on bail. I am aware that a few of them were released, however, we all are not free until all of them are free.
We must take this moment as a nation to continue demanding the unconditional release of all political prisoners as there are many whose stories might never reach the media, but they still suffer greatly and their stories deserve to be told and heard.
On 31 July 2024, we (Chere, Gwenzi, and I) boarded a domestic flight to Victoria Falls at 12:50 and this was the start of our horrific ordeal.
We were abducted, taken to the domestic terminal at the airport which at the time was closed to the public due to renovations, tortured, held incommunicado, intimidated, interrogated by unidentified persons, and finally handed over to the police after 8 hours upon which the disorderly conduct charges were brought against us.
The persons who interrogated us kept accusing us of planning demonstrations to humiliate the country and the President during the SADC summit and they stated that we were on our way to Victoria Falls to meet more people to plan with.
All of us were clueless about the stated accusation and we were told that “when the SADC visitors came to Zimbabwe, we had to be well-behaved and not humiliate the country”.
In hindsight, I think of how silly these people sounded, and yet for those reasons we were abducted, tortured, and imprisoned.
What is further concerning is the charge of disorderly conduct at an incident that occurred while I was outside Zimbabwe. Chere and Gwenzi were also not present at the stated incident!
The issue is not about the charge of disorderly conduct, it is about the abduction and torture that happened prior ahead of the SADC summit and our abductors needing a justification for why we were held incommunicado for 8 hours before releasing us into police custody.
The conditions were we subject to after our arrest were macabre. The issue was that my co-accused were moved from remand prison to the D section of Chikurubi Maximum Prison for men and they would come to court with leg irons and handcuffs.
They were treated like dangerous criminals and it shocks me still that persons charged with disorderly conduct are treated like those charged with more serious crimes.
Of concern was Mr Chere whose injuries were extremely severe and walking in leg irons with his injuries is something that took courage and resilience. 
Prison life is difficult and prison conditions painful not only for political prisoners but for prisoners in general. 
I am thankful to the many individuals and organizations who I saw coming to visit prisoners particularly the 7th Day Adventist Church which a lot of prisoners speak highly of.
More corporations, churches, and individuals must organize programs to visit prisoners especially those with long sentences and to support some of their material needs as some of them do not get visitors to see them.
I believe Zimbabwe as a nation can do more for those in prison. I believe ordinary people and groups can work together to make our prisons better for prisoners. I pray that more people will be inspired to consistently support prisoners.
Friends and comrades, I continue the fight for a free, democratic, and safe Zimbabwe. A country in which state machinery is used to protect citizens and not weaponized against them.
In my case, I have watched in shock as different institutions have lied to keep me and my co-accused locked up for 35 days.
My conviction is in truth particularly the concept of “Satyagraha” truth force that MK Gandi believed. There are some absolute truths that can not be denied even with a thousand lies.
It is an absolute truth that I was out of Zimbabwe when the stated offence was committed. It is an absolute truth that there is an ongoing crackdown on Civil Society, activists, and any opposition to the government in Zimbabwe.
It is also an absolute truth that many of those arrested in the James Timba case are still in prison. I believe in truth and that the truth will set me free – literally!
What they arrested on the 31st of July was just my body. My spirit throughout the whole ordeal remained free!
In my heart, I have a fervent belief in the strength of the human will in its pursuit of truth, Justice, and freedom. 
I move forward in the struggle for dignity.

They Arrested My Body, Not My Spirit - Kwekweza

Self-proclaimed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu is poised to receive millions after the government disbursed over ZWG22 million to the party he leads.
According to a notice published in the Government Gazette on September 6, Tshabangu’s party will receive ZWG22,116,500 from a total of ZWG70 million allocated for political parties under the Political Parties Finance Act.
The distribution of these funds is based on each party’s performance in the most recent election, with government funding determined by the percentage of votes received.
To qualify for this financial assistance, parties must secure at least 5% of the total votes cast in the election.
Reads the notice issued by the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Ziyambi Ziyambi:

IT is hereby notified, in terms of section 3(2) of the Political Parties (Finance) Act [Chapter 2:11], that the total amount of moneys payable to political parties in respect of the year beginning 1st January, 2024, and ending on the 31st of December, 2024, is seventy million ZiG dollars only.
The money shall be disbursed to political parties that qualify in terms of section 3(3) of the Act as follows- 
(a) forty-seven million eight hundred and eighty-three thousand five hundred ZiG dollars (ZiG 47 883 500,00) shall be paid to the Zimbabwe African National Union (Patriotic Front) ZANU (PF) which received 68.4049 % of the votes cast; and (b) twenty-two million one hundred and sixteen thousand five hundred ZiG dollars (ZiG 22 116 500,00) shall be paid to the Citizen Coalition for Change-(CCC) which received 31,5950% of the total votes cast.

Using the official exchange rate, the funding translates to approximately US$1,602,644, while on the black market, at a rate of 1:24, it amounts to about US$921,520.
Tshabangu emerged unexpectedly after the harmonised elections on August 23, 2023, and seized CCC from former leader Nelson Chamisa.
He declared himself the secretary-general of the opposition party and recalled several legislators and councillors loyal to Chamisa, with the support of the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Senate President, the Local Government Minister, and the Judiciary.
In frustration, Chamisa announced his resignation as CCC leader earlier this year, accusing ZANU PF of hijacking the opposition party.
This led to the resignation of two CCC MPs, Rusty Markham (Harare East) and Fadzayi Mahere (Mt Pleasant), in protest against Tshabangu’s actions.
The Political Parties Finance Act, enacted in 2001, regulates state funding for political parties. The Act stipulates that funding is sourced from the Consolidated Revenue Fund and requires political parties to secure at least 5% of the total votes in general elections to qualify for state funding. Additionally, the Act prohibits foreign donations to political parties and candidates.

ZANU PF And CCC To Share ZiG70 Million

Matabeleland North province senator Sengezo Tshabangu has said the prolonged construction of the Bulawayo-Nkayi Road, which has remained incomplete for 31 years, is largely due to contractors misappropriating funds intended for the project.
Tshabangu, who serves as the leader of the opposition in Parliament, made these remarks during a virtual discussion organised by the Bubi Community Parliament (BCP) on Tuesday.
The discussion centred on the theme: “A Special Appeal to the Powers That Be on the Completion of the Bulawayo-Nkayi Road: Responsibilities of Society and the Business Community in This Project.”
Tshabangu said the Nkayi-Bulawayo Road construction project began in 1993, yet only 65 km of the 158 km stretch—from Bulawayo to Queens Mine—has been completed. He said (via <a href="https://newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local/article/200031868/byo-nkayi-road-funds-diverted-tshabangu">Southern Eye</a>):

Nkayi Road identifies with the people of Matabeleland and you cannot speak about Matabeleland without including Nkayi. When it has no development, it raises questions.
On companies that were doing the Nkayi-Bulawayo Roads, they are not from Matabeleland. They are companies which have no history.
They have no track record of where they once did roads in a way that meets international standards.
There are many companies that have done that road to date. I recently engaged the Finance minister (Mthuli Ncube) about the same road.
He told me that five companies that were there had been mired in corrupt activities. They abused funds.
This is why today, if you go along that road, there is no activity because companies that were there, they were five and were given segments on the distances they should cover.
But these companies, I cannot mention their names, diverted funds and the minister is saying he will retender the road to ensure progress.

During the discussion, Nkayi South legislator Jabulani Hadebe (CCC) said the government should ensure that developmental projects are implemented uniformly across all regions, rather than allowing Matabeleland to fall behind. He said:

The Nkayi-Bulawayo Road has taken 31 years now and this is sad. This project started long back. But you will realise that there are some roads in the eastern part of the country such as Harare-Chirundu, Harare-Masvingo and others, which were started recently and have been done in a short space of time.
But, sadly, ours in Nkayi has taken such a long time. Our area has been marginalised for a long time, but as an MP for Nkayi South, I will work with other MPs, chiefs and senators so that we push for the construction of our roads to be like those in the eastern parts of the country.

Meanwhile, Tshabangu urged the people of Matabeleland to establish local companies capable of undertaking road construction projects.
He said parliamentarians will advocate for the Executive to prioritise local firms for constructing roads as the roads hold sentimental value to them.
The construction of the 158km road linking Bulawayo and Nkayi Centre in Matabeleland North started in 1993 and was supposed to be completed by 1999.

Funds meant for the Bulawayo-Nkayi Road in Zimbabwe were stolen by contractors, causing the project to remain unfinished for 31 years. Senator Tshabangu said some companies misused the funds and did not do the work properly. He mentioned that the road's completion is very important for the people of Matabeleland. Another lawmaker, Hadebe, said the government should treat all regions equally when it comes to development projects. Tshabangu also urged people in Matabeleland to start local companies to build roads and asked the government to give them priority for such projects. The road was supposed to be finished in 1999 but it is still incomplete.

Bulawayo-Nkayi Road Funds Stolen - Tshabangu

Former Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) Chiredzi Town Council chairman Gibson Hwende has defected to ZANU PF, saying it is futile to continue opposing President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Hwende made his announcement at a ZANU PF gathering at Chitsanga Hall in Chiredzi on Saturday, where he was publicly welcomed following his defection.
Ironically, he has been a vocal critic of Mnangagwa in the past but expressed admiration for the ZANU PF leader, describing him as a “listening president.”
Hwende lost the CCC nomination for the Chiredzi Central National Assembly Constituency in the general elections held on August 23, 2023.
He subsequently ran as an independent candidate but was unsuccessful, with CCC candidate Ropafadzo Makumire winning the seat.
Hwende’s defection was revealed during a thank-you rally led by current Chiredzi Town Council chairperson Jameson Charumbira.
Speaking to The Mirror after the event, Hwende claimed his decision to join ZANU PF was motivated by his belief in Mnangagwa’s approach to leadership. He said:

Mnangagwa is a listening president and he inspired me, I witnessed a lot of developments done by him under a short period of time and it’s madness to keep on opposing good development.

Hwende said does not hold any grudge against former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa, saying: “I don’t have any bad blood with him, but opposition yadhakwa”.
Also announced as joining ZANU PF on the day is Chiredzi Government Primary School Development Committee (SDC) chairman, Artwell Muzvrwandoga and his deputy Shepherd Nyoni.

Gibson Hwende, a former CCC chairman, has joined ZANU PF because he thinks it's not worth opposing President Mnangagwa anymore. He praised Mnangagwa's leadership. Hwende lost in the elections and decided to switch parties. He thinks it's important to support good development. Hwende has no hard feelings towards Nelson Chamisa. Another person, Artwell Muzvrwandoga, also joined ZANU PF.

Gibson Hwende Defects To ZANU PF, Says Opposing Mnangagwa A Waste Of Time

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday, 02 September, reaffirmed that he will not seek an extension of his term in office when his second and final term ends in 2028.
His comments came amid calls from some members of his party, ZANU PF, to amend the Constitution to either extend his current term to 2030 or allow him to run for another five-year term.
Speaking to an audience of Zimbabwean expatriates in Beijing, China, Mnangagwa, who came to power in 2017 following a military coup, described himself as a “constitutionalist.” He said:

If there are people you’re gossiping with saying the chief wants to extend his term, forget it, I don’t want. The people of Zimbabwe gave me a lot to plough and when I’m finished others will come and plough their own section.
So, this question of having a third term does not arise, especially under my watch, no. I’m in my second term and I already know the date I’m stepping down as president.
In 2028 I’m retiring to my home and others will come in. So, if there’re people entertaining such thoughts [third term] tell them to perish the idea, that’s not in my plans.

In recent days, some veterans of Zimbabwe’s War of Independence have criticized those advocating for an extension of President Mnangagwa’s rule, accusing them of being motivated by selfish interests.
Mnangagwa, who will be 85 in 2028, is currently in Beijing for the China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit.

Opposition politician Elisabeth Valerio, who was the only female presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, says many politicians in the ZANU PF-led government have betrayed the people of Zimbabwe by focusing on their re-election in 2028 instead of focusing on fulfilling the promises they made to the electorate in the run-up to the previous general elections.
Despite President Emmerson Mnangagwa twice categorically saying he will leave at the end of his constitutionally-mandated two terms in 2028, Valerio believes Zimbabweans are being taken for a ride.
Posting on X, the United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) president said Zimbabweans are not calling for a third term; they are demanding effective governance, protection and quality public service delivery. Wrote Valerio:

It has just been one year since the 2023 presidential elections. We expect the government of Zimbabwe to be entirely focused on fulfilling promises made to the people.
BUT, instead – many politicians in our government are already fixated on securing their positions for the next term. This blatant disregard for the needs of the electorate is a betrayal of the trust that was placed in them.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa himself seems to have employed a strategy of reverse psychology, suggesting an intention to step down, only to be “persuaded” to stay on.
This charade is nothing more than a ploy to cling to power at all costs. We have also witnessed senior members of ZANU PF endorsing a third term for President #Mnangagwa.
This manoeuvre is not only unconstitutional – it represents a dangerous precedent. The Constitution of Zimbabwe (the supreme law of the land) unequivocally outlines the presidential term limits.
It is therefore highly troubling and unacceptable that some are seeking to undermine this Constitution, solely to serve the ambitions of a single individual.
Zimbabwe should not be held hostage by the whims of a ruling party that lacks a coherent and democratic succession plan.
The politics of power without accountability and without delivering on its mandate to the people is a grave injustice to our nation.
The citizens of Zimbabwe are NOT calling for a third term; they are demanding effective governance, protection and quality public service delivery.
The voice of the people is clear – no one is above the law, and we must never again make the mistake of allowing a dictatorship to take root in our beloved country.
As a nation, we must stand firm and united in defence of our democracy. We must ensure that political leaders are held accountable by the same laws and standards that apply to every citizen.
Zimbabwe deserves leadership that respects the rule of law, honours the will of the people, and is committed to the betterment of every Zimbabwean citizen.
