Geza declared that the shutdown will only come to an end once President Emmerson Mnangagwa steps down, accusing him of protecting criminal cartels that are allegedly draining the country’s economy.
Speaking on Monday, 21 April, Geza acknowledged that many citizens may run out of food as the shutdown continues. 
He appealed to businesses to step in and help by providing food to the people, assuring them that the incoming government would compensate them for their support. Said Geza:

Fellow Zimbabweans, we know that as we stay home, we will fall hungry and our food stocks will diminish. 
We call upon all wholesalers of foodstuffs and all stores to feel free to help the people and keep a record of the stock we released.
The process should be witnessed by at least five senior managers and put in writing the new government will compensate you after verification of your pre-shutdown inventory.
This is good for you because under the criminal cabal of Mnangagwa, we have lost so much from poor economic policies, bad governance, and looting.

War veteran Blessed Geza has claimed that Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, Prosecutor General Virginia Mabiza, and Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda are preparing proposals to amend the Constitution and extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s final term from 2028 to 2030.
In a statement released on Monday morning, 21 April 2025, Geza also alleged that the plan includes extending the life of Parliament from five to seven years. Said Geza:

The situation in our country has reached another level. Since our address on Saturday 19 April 2025, further damning information has come to us through progressive forces within the security sector in our country. 
These progressive forces have revealed continued daily plunder of our national treasury by Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and his Zvigananda. 
This is done while our people continue to suffer in every way, including a collapsed healthcare system, infrastructure decay, judicial capture and others. 
As we speak, Ziyambi Ziyambi, the Minister of Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Virginia Mabiza, Prosecutor General, and Jacob Mudenda, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, are ready to submit proposals to amend the Constitution and extend the presidential term to 2030. 
The amendments will also extend the life of parliament from five to seven years. This will take the current parliament to 2030.

Geza further claimed that one of the key amendments being proposed would involve the repeal of Section 328 of the Constitution, which currently outlines the procedures for amending the Constitution.
The repeal of this section would effectively bypass existing checks and balances designed to prevent such changes, enabling a potentially indefinite extension of the presidency. He said:

They are also planning to use their two-thirds majority to approve the amendments and illegally avoid a referendum. 
They are planning to submit the proposals to the Cabinet next week for approval, using the ZANU PF two-thirds majority. 
Public consultations will be conducted, and even if they are resisted, amendments will be adopted by Parliament again. 
The amendments will be adopted without conducting a referendum. We are aware of this shenanigans. 
Apart from looting millions, they are also planning to loot the Constitution by criminally mutilating the Constitution to extend their plunder.

Geza has strongly warned Ziyambi, Mudenda, and Mabiza that any attempt to change the Constitution will not be tolerated. 
The former ZANU PF Central Committee member accused the trio of meeting with judges and pressuring them to dismiss any applications made by individuals seeking to protect the Constitution.
In his statement, Geza reiterated his claims that millions of dollars are being looted by those close to President Mnangagwa. Said Geza:

Geza Names Key Figures Allegedly Pushing For 2-Year Extension Of Mnangagwa’s Presidency And Parliament's Term

Blessed Runesu Geza, the fugitive war veteran and former ZANU PF Central Committee member, has called for a national shutdown on 22 and 23 April to pressure President Emmerson Mnangagwa to step down.
Geza made the call on Saturday evening, just weeks after his previous call for an “uprising” on 31 March 2025 failed to gain traction. Most people stayed at home out of fear of getting caught in any violence.
Although Geza claimed the March 31 shutdown was a success, saying most businesses were closed and people remained indoors, he had actually called for mass protests, not just people staying home.
Geza, who is also known by the nickname “Bombshell,” is currently wanted by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on several charges, including theft, undermining the authority of the President, and inciting public violence.
His latest call for a shutdown came just hours after President Mnangagwa, in his Independence Day speech on 18 April in Gokwe, warned against using social media to incite unrest.
Despite that, Geza went online yesterday, urging Zimbabweans to “send a strong message to Mnangagwa” by shutting down the country for two days. Said Geza:

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the 22nd and 23rd of April 2025, everyone must stay home. We must shut down Zimbabwe completely.
This is to send a strong message to Mnangagwa and his “zvigananda”. Shops and industries will not open, and kombis will be parked.
The police will not teargas you, but if they ever come to you, you have the right to defend yourselves.

Geza also said that with Mnangagwa controlling state institutions and protests being banned, staying home has become a powerful way to push back. He said:

Geza Renews Push Against Mnangagwa With Call For Two-Day National Shutdown

ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Munyaradzi Machacha, has made explosive allegations against former ZANU PF Central Committee member Blessed Runesu Geza, accusing him of being dishonest and greedy.
Machacha claimed that during the liberation war in Mozambique, Geza used to steal from the logistics warehouse and resell goods to villagers.
Geza, who recently broke ranks with some of his colleagues in ZANU PF over the party’s push to amend the constitution and allow President Emmerson Mnangagwa to serve a third term, has been accused of various crimes, including rape, murder and theft.
What has raised eyebrows is that these allegations have only surfaced now, after Geza’s fallout with the ruling party.
In a video shared by ZANU PF on social media, Machacha, while addressing party members at an undisclosed location, revealed that he is related to Geza. He said:

I acknowledge that Geza is my uncle. You heard him rant that l am his nephew, yes, it’s true. I am not speaking of a person that l am not familiar with. We were together at Chimoio during the war.

Machacha claimed that Geza never spent a single day at Chimoio Camp, instead focusing on stealing from the logistics warehouse and reselling goods to villagers from nearby settlements. He said:

There was a big hall which served as a logistics warehouse where clothes for guerilla fighters were stored. Bombshell would go there and steal jeans and shirts, which he would go and sell in the villages or exchange for beer or cigarettes.
He literally never spent a single day in camp. Each morning, he would go around villages and get chicken, beer cigarettes and Saraveji.

Machacha also claimed that after being caught stealing, Geza would receive corporal punishment, including flogging on the buttocks by security details at the camp, yet he remained unrepentant.
Machacha also alleged that when Geza was sent to Romania for military training, he falsely told Romanian authorities that he was the son of nationalist Robert Mugabe, which resulted in him being treated as a Very Important Person (VIP). He said:

The correct fact was that Geza’s elder brother was married to Mugabe’s sister. He would be chauffeured in limousines around Romania.

Machacha claimed that during a military operation in Mozambique, Geza tricked FRELIMO soldiers by intoxicating them before stealing the engines from their Scania trucks, which he then smuggled into Zimbabwe.
Geza was accused of raiding white commercial farmers’ cattle during the land reform and taking control of abattoirs, where he slaughtered the stolen cattle for sale.
Machacha also alleged that during the Chiadzwa diamond rush, Geza, who was appointed as Mbada Diamonds’ security officer, looted the diamonds.
The commissar suggested that Geza’s feud with President Mnangagwa started after he was disqualified from contesting the 2018 elections for the Sanyati constituency due to a pending rape case involving a local schoolgirl.
Given all these allegations, one might wonder how many of the surviving war veterans truly fought in the liberation struggle, as it seems that when a veteran falls out of favor with the party, they are often accused of not having participated in the war.

ZANU PF's Commissar Says Geza Never Fought At War Front, But Lived In Luxury In Romania After Claiming He Was Mugabe's Son

Controversial preacher Talent Chiwenga has suggested that ZANU PF deliberately and systematically removed people from the Ndebele ethnic group from positions of power since Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980, to strengthen its control over the country.
In a recent sermon, Chiwenga described the Gukurahundi massacres as a form of genocide, intended to suppress the Ndebele population and tighten the regime’s grip on power. He said:
<blockquote>
If the population dynamics in Zimbabwe were such that the Ndebeles outnumbered the Shonas, Zanu PF could not have lasted more than 10 years in power. Yes.
The reason why Zanu PF has stayed this long in power, it is because they elbowed the Ndebeles out of the structures of governance and tried to control the population of the Ndebeles that they should not increase.
The Gukurahundi genocide was strategic. They wanted to reduce the number of men who could give birth to children. They wanted to control the population growth of the Ndebeles. Because Mugabe and his cronies knew that Shonas are cowards, then the Ndebeles are warriors.

Gukurahundi refers to a series of violent political events that took place in Zimbabwe between 1983 and 1987, primarily in the Matabeleland and Midlands regions.
The term “Gukurahundi” is derived from a Shona word meaning “the early rain that washes away the chaff before the spring rains,” symbolising the violent purge that took place during this period.
Chiwenga asserted that the Shona people are cowards, and it is this perceived cowardice that has allowed ZANU PF to maintain its hold on power for the past 45 years. He said:

If we take the Ndebeles from Bulawayo, put them in Harare, take the Shonas in Harare, put them in Bulawayo. It won’t take three years. Zanu PF will be out of power in terms of the population.
If we had the same number of Ndebeles as the Shonas in Harare, it wouldn’t take three years to remove Zanu PF. Shonas are cowards.
This is why we didn’t fight the British colonial rule. We joined the Ndebeles. Yes. It’s the Ndebeles who resisted the white men.
</blockquote>
To support his claim that the Shonas are cowards and the Ndebeles are “brave,” Chiwenga pointed to the First Chimurenga of 1896/97, where the Ndebeles led an uprising against British colonial rule before the Shona later joined the struggle. He said:

You don’t know your history, go and find out. Ask them who was in the Anglo-Ndebele war. Who started the First Chimurenga? It’s not the Shonas. It’s not Zanu. They were lying to us. History is there. Some of us, we read. And so we know what is true and what is not true. The point is, Andrew Wutaunashe is a fool.

He mentioned the Gukurahundi massacres as a way to control Ndebele population. Chiwenga said if Ndebeles were in power, ZANU PF would not last long. He also talked about the First Chimurenga, where Ndebeles fought against British rule before Shonas joined. Chiwenga thinks Shonas are cowardly and Ndebeles are brave. He believes Shonas allowed ZANU PF to stay in power because of their cowardice.

Controversial Preacher Talent Chiwenga Says "Shonas Are Cowards"

The High Court has ruled that Sengezo Tshabangu’s expulsion from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) was unlawful. The court criticized the party’s disciplinary process as flawed and legally unsound.
Tshabangu was expelled on February 12, 2025, after being found guilty of violating the party’s constitution and disrespecting its leadership.
The decision to expel Tshabangu was made by CCC officials from a faction led by Welshman Ncube.
However, on April 11, 2025, Judge President Mary Zimba Dube ruled that those party officials had no legal authority to expel Tshabangu, as their terms had expired in May 2024 and were never renewed. Read the ruling:

In addition, he asserted that the appointment of the first to fourth respondents to the National Disciplinary Committee was done ultra vires the disciplinary code of conduct and regulations of the party, the code, is unlawful and irregular, their terms of office having expired.
(Tshabangu) posited that as the interim Secretary of the party, he has no knowledge of the appointment of the first to fourth respondents to the disciplinary committee and never generated the notice or sanctioned it. He challenged the authority of Welshman Ncube to appoint the disciplinary committee arguing that he is rotating by himself as Acting President contrary to the provisions of the constitution.

Justice Zimba Dube ruled that the disciplinary process was “null and void and liable to be set aside.” She ruled:

In this court application, the applicant approached the court seeking relief on an urgent basis for a declaration that the CCC Party’s office bearers and main organs elected on 26 May 2019 expired on 27 May 2024 and that the decision made by the disciplinary committee constituted of office bearers whose tenure of office had expired to expel him from the party is null and void liable to be set aside.
The declaratur was brought in terms of s14 of the High Court Act (Chapter 7:06) as read with rule 59(6) of the High Court Rules, 2021.
In the alternative, he sought it to be declared that the appointment of the disciplinary committee, its members and conduct of disciplinary proceedings that led to his expulsion is ultra vires the disciplinary code of conduct of the party.
After hearing the parties, I allowed the application on the basis of a preliminary point raised by the applicant.

Justice Zimba Dube ruled that the matter was treated as unopposed after the CCC failed to properly challenge the application.
The party’s attempt to oppose the case was described as “clumsy and done without due care,” with key procedural errors—such as filing a day late and using an affidavit signed by someone without legal authority.
Tshabangu, who claims to be the CCC’s interim secretary general and the opposition leader in Parliament, was expelled through a disciplinary process he argued was led by individuals without legal standing.
He brought the case against CCC National Disciplinary Committee Chairperson Sesel Zvidzayi, along with committee members Concilia Chinanzvavana, Gilbert Kagodora, and Shepherd Mushonga. The fifth respondent was the CCC itself.
Tshabangu told the court the officials behind his expulsion were elected at the Gweru Congress in May 2019 and that their terms expired in May 2024.
The judge agreed, ruling that any decisions or actions by these office bearers after May 27, 2024, have no legal effect and are declared null and void.
Justice Zimba Dube also rejected claims that Tshabangu had no legal standing due to unpaid subscriptions or failure to exhaust internal remedies, calling these arguments baseless.
The ruling casts doubt on the legitimacy of Welshman Ncube’s leadership, as his term also expired in 2024.

The High Court says kicking Tshabangu out of CCC was wrong. Court says party did bad job in punishing him. Tshabangu broke party rules and disrespected leaders. But the people who expelled him were not allowed to make that decision. They were from a group led by Ncube. The court ruled that their terms were up and they had no power. Tshabangu says he was removed unfairly. The court agreed and said the decision to kick him out is canceled. Ncube's leadership may have some problems too.

High Court Overturns Tshabangu’s Expulsion From CCC

Veteran freedom fighter and opposition politician Moses Mzila Ndlovu has accused the Zimbabwean government of hypocrisy for compensating white former commercial farmers while continuing to ignore long-standing calls for restitution of ZPRA and ZAPU properties that were seized without compensation.
Ndlovu made the remarks after the government announced this week that it had made an initial payment of US$3 million to white farmers under the 2020 compensation agreement.
According to Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube, the payment represents one percent of the initial US$311 million allocated for the first batch of 378 farms—out of a total of 740—approved for compensation. The remaining amount will be paid through US dollar-denominated Treasury bonds.
Mzila Ndlovu, who served as a co-Minister of National Healing, Reconciliation, and Integration in Zimbabwe’s Government of National Unity (GNU), said:

It is ironic how ZPRA and ZAPU properties acquired in the open land and property market with collective demobilisation payouts were unjustifiably seized without compensation.
Meanwhile, most of the land seized from black people starting in 1890 by whites is now being compensated by a government claiming to be pro-justice.

Veteran fighter Moses Ndlovu is upset with Zimbabwe government for compensating white farmers but not restoring ZPRA and ZAPU properties. Government paid $3 million to white farmers out of $311 million total. Ndlovu says it's unfair that black people's land taken by whites is compensated, but ZPRA and ZAPU properties are ignored. He thinks it's hypocritical. Ndlovu used to be a Minister in Zimbabwe's Government of National Unity. He wants justice for everyone.

Mzila Ndlovu Criticises Govt. For Prioritising White Farmer Compensation Over ZPRA And ZAPU Restitution

ZANU PF has apologised to Zambia’s ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) for inflammatory remarks made by some of its members against Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema.
Relations between the two countries became strained following Hichilema’s election victory, after which several of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s allies — including his spokesperson, George Charamba — publicly labelled Hichilema a “sellout.”
In a move to ease tensions, a UPND delegation led by secretary-general Batuke Imenda met with senior ZANU PF officials on Monday, including the party’s secretary for administration, Obert Mpofu. The delegation later paid a courtesy call on President Mnangagwa.
During the meeting, Mpofu assured the UPND delegation that ZANU PF members would refrain from making any further disparaging remarks about President Hichilema. Said Mpofu:

We also distance ourselves from the negative remarks made by some of our members.
And we wish to assure you that there will be no further negative publicity about Zambia as you are our brother and neighbour.
Here in Zimbabwe, we are under sustained attack from a variety of sources, including our own members being used by members of the opposition, as well as some Western governments which are actively funding foreign media to write inflammatory commentary coupled with insults and threats.
And our policy as a ZANU PF government is that we work with the political parties that are in power. Anything outside that is not entertained.

Mpofu also claimed that Hichilema’s party had supported ZANU PF in countering the March 31 demonstrations organised by self-exiled war veteran Blessed Geza. He said:

The recent widely publicised March 31 demonstrations were unsuccessful partly because of the co-operation we received from yourselves.
There was even an attempt earlier on, where we worked closely with the UPND, to thwart some intended demonstrations where opposition parties were going to ferry people from South Africa and some of our neighbouring countries to come and destabilise this country.

The UPND delegation’s visit was a reciprocal gesture, following a similar diplomatic visit by ZANU PF officials to Zambia last year, to strength ties between the two ruling parties.

ZANU PF said sorry to Zambia's ruling party for saying mean things about their president. They met to make peace and promised not to insult him again. They talked about working together and stopping bad things from happening in both countries. The UPND also helped ZANU PF during some protests earlier. This is a way to make friends and not fight. The two parties are trying to be nice to each other and make their countries better. They want to be good neighbors and work together.

"It Won't Happen Again", ZANU PF Apologises For Insulting Hichilema

ZANU PF activist Sybeth Musengezi was granted US$100 bail on Wednesday following his arrest on Tuesday for an alleged assault.
Musengezi, 40, appeared before Harare Magistrate Ruth Moyo, where he was not asked to enter a plea. His case was remanded to April 30 for trial.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Musengezi is accused of assaulting airtime vendor Norest Taruberekere after the vendor allegedly interrupted Musengezi’s press conference.
Taruberekere told Magistrate Moyo that he had been chasing after a colleague who had run into the Media Centre, the venue for the disrupted press briefing, after snatching an airtime recharge card.
He alleged that his colleague ran up to the second floor where Musengezi was holding the conference. Taruberekere claimed that Musengezi then confronted him, asking what he wanted, before assaulting him by slapping him in the face with open hands. Said Taruberekera:

I then stopped and asked why he was assaulting me but instead, he told his friends to take videos of our altercation.

Musengezi, a presumed ally of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, had organised a media briefing to discuss the state of the economy. However, the event quickly descended into chaos.
Two men, wearing green aprons, typically worn by airtime vendors, and covering their faces, gatecrashed the briefing. They tore down Musengezi’s banners and forced him out of the Media Centre, an incident witnessed by journalists who had arrived to cover the event.
A group of police officers then intervened, forcing Musengezi out of the venue and onto a truck waiting outside.
Musengezi has garnered attention in recent years for challenging the legitimacy of President Emmerson Mnangagwa in court. 
In 2021, he filed a lawsuit claiming that Mnangagwa’s rise to power in 2017 was unconstitutional, arguing that the central committee meeting that elevated him was improperly convened.

Musengezi, a ZANU PF activist, got into a confrontation with the vendor during his press briefing. The vendor claimed Musengezi slapped him in the face. Musengezi had organized the media briefing to discuss the economy, but it was disrupted by two men wearing green aprons. Musengezi has been in the news for challenging the legitimacy of President Mnangagwa in court.

Sybeth Musengezi Granted US$100 Bail After Allegedly Assaulting "Airtime Vendor"

War veteran and former ZANU PF Central Committee member, Blessed Runesu Geza, also known as “Comrade Bombshell,” has faced a setback in his attempt to impeach President Emmerson Mnangagwa this month after Parliament adjourned until 6 May 2025.
On 8 April 2025, both the National Assembly and the Senate met briefly for about seven minutes to make announcements before adjourning until 6 May. The Houses had previously sat on 3 April and adjourned to 8 April.
The adjournment is likely due to the Easter holiday and the upcoming Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), which will take place in Bulawayo.
Geza had previously expressed his intention to introduce the impeachment motion this week, stating that “the die has been cast” and that “the motion is already in motion.”
However, with the adjournment, Geza will now have to wait nearly a month before he can formally introduce the motion in the National Assembly—assuming he has a member of Parliament to move it.
For a motion to appear on the Parliament Order Paper, it must be moved by an MP and seconded by another. At present, there is no indication of who will move or second the motion on Geza’s behalf.

Geza’s Attempt To Impeach Mnangagwa Hits Setback As Parliament Adjourns

Opposition politician Elisabeth Valerio says Zimbabwe is suffering from widespread corruption and poor service delivery, which has caused many Zimbabweans to lose trust in the government.
Valerio, the only female presidential candidate in the 2023 harmonised elections, said that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government has focused more on holding onto power and deceiving the public with empty slogans, rather than keeping its election promises. She said:

We are merely two years into this term, but already the national discourse is being hijacked by the self-serving agenda of prolonging political dominance rather than addressing the immediate and pressing needs of the citizenry. 
This push for an extended term may in part have been intensified because many of the current political players now know that their likelihood of reelection (in a true democracy) is slim!

The United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) leader said the country is being held hostage by the internal conflicts within the ruling ZANU PF party, and her party has no interest in their current power struggles.
Valerio urged ZANU PF to follow the Constitution of Zimbabwe and respect democratic principles, rather than just focusing on holding onto political power.

Zimbabwe is facing a lot of corruption and bad service, said Elisabeth Valerio, an opposition politician. The government is not keeping its promises and is more interested in staying in power. Zimbabweans Suffocating Under Corruption, Says Valerio

ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa has criticised the Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Jenfan Muswere, for allegedly spreading party news without following due process.
In a letter dated 7 April 2025, Mutsvangwa accused Muswere of allowing the announcement of the results of the Women’s League elections in the Provincial Elections held in Manicaland on the ZBC 8 PM news on 6 April 2025, as well as in The Herald on 7 April 2025.
Mutsvangwa charged that the results were announced before the party had ratified the elections and formally released the official announcement. Added Mutsvangwa:

This announcement was irregular and intended to preempt the due electoral provisions and procedures of the Party. The other motive was to upend standard internal consultations with the Party leadership in accordance with the Party constitution and tenets. Deriving out of all this, this announcement is thus deemed to be of no consequence.

Mutsvangwa said that only the ZANU PF Information Department has the authority to announce results from the party’s internal elections. He added that the official results, once finalised, will be announced at the appropriate time.

The ZANU PF spokesperson, Christopher Mutsvangwa, is upset with Minister Jenfan Muswere for announcing election results too soon. The results were for the Women's League elections in Manicaland. Mutsvangwa feels that the results should not have been shared until the party officially released them. He says only the ZANU PF Information Department can announce election results. The Minister's actions were seen as breaking the rules and skipping important steps. The official results will be announced properly when everything is ready.

Mutsvangwa Slams Muswere For Announcing ZANU PF Election Results Prematurely

Former ZANU PF national commissar Saviour Kasukuwere has reportedly become the primary target of a faction within the party, which is seeking retribution against a group of war veterans led by Blessed Geza. 
This Geza faction is accused of spearheading a campaign to oust President Emmerson Mnangagwa from power.
A faction aligned with Mnangagwa is pushing for a constitutional amendment that would allow him to serve a third term, while the rival faction, fronted by Geza, opposes the move.
According to a security source quoted by The NewsHawks, Kasukuwere is among the former G40 members who are seen as part of a group attempting to stage an uprising against Mnangagwa. Said a source:

Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga is seen by President Mnangagwa and a section of the system which supports him as the leader of the March31 Movement fronted by Geza. Chiwenga is seen as the architect of the campaign and Godfather of the faction.
However, there are some former G40 members who are also seen as kingpins of the group spearheading an attempted uprising against Mnangagwa, especially Kasukuwere. He has become a prime target of the system.

Kasukuwere currently lives in Johannesburg, South Africa, after fleeing Zimbabwe following the November 2017 coup that ousted former president Robert Mugabe, along with other prominent G40 members.
After the coup, Kasukuwere first went to Maputo, Mozambique, then to Nairobi, Kenya, with fellow ex-minister Jonathan Moyo, after surviving a military raid on his mansion in Harare’s Glen Lorne area.
Other high-profile officials who fled the coup included Walter Mzembi, Patrick Zhuwao, Mandi Chimene, and Godfrey Gandawa.
Kasukuwere briefly returned to Zimbabwe in 2018, attempting to mend relations with Mnangagwa’s government, but his efforts failed, and he left again under the threat of arrest or harm. Since then, he has been seen as a political threat to Mnangagwa’s administration.
Ahead of the 2023 elections, Kasukuwere tried to return to Zimbabwe to run for president, but he was blocked by legal and political means, and was threatened with arrest if he returned.
Reports suggest that Mnangagwa and his allies have launched a witchhunt to uncover who is supporting or working with war veterans, particularly Blessed Geza, who is leading the campaign against his rule.

ZANU PF party is fighting over President Mnangagwa's future. Former member Saviour Kasukuwere is a target by a faction led by Blessed Geza. Some want Mnangagwa to run for a third term, while others oppose it. Kasukuwere is seen as part of a group trying to rebel against Mnangagwa. He fled to South Africa after a coup in 2017. Kasukuwere Targeted As ZANU PF Factions Fight Over Mnangagwa's Future

The government has dismissed fugitive war veteran Blessed Geza’s attempt to introduce a motion in the National Assembly to impeach President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
On Sunday, the Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Jenfan Muswere, asserted that the impeachment attempt would fail due to a lack of cross-party support, adding that the grounds for the proposed impeachment were based on falsehoods.
Muswere dismissed the former ZANU PF Central Committee member as a “fugitive terrorist, whose nom de guerre is Cde Bombshell,” but remarked, “there is nothing bombshell about him; he is just an empty shell.” Said Muswere:

The so-called impeachment paper being circulated by Geza is of no value and not worth the paper it is written on. It’s not even worth the time and energy to read it.
The people of Zimbabwe and their Members of Parliament are solidly behind their President whom they overwhelmingly elected in 2023. That impeachment will never succeed.

Last week, a ZANU PF faction opposed to Mnangagwa released a draft impeachment motion, alleging his “inability to perform the functions of the office of President due to a lack of mental capacity” and corruption.
The motion was made public after Geza announced his group’s intention to pursue impeachment following recent protests.
Citing Section 97 of the Zimbabwean Constitution, the motion also accuses the President of “willful violation of the Constitution” due to this alleged lack of mental capacity.
The draft motion claims that Mnangagwa is suffering from “severe cognitive decline” resulting from a medically diagnosed condition of “vascular dementia.”
It further alleges that this condition has caused “persistent and recurrent cognitive deficits, failures, and relapses,” rendering him incapable of fulfilling his presidential duties. Part of the motion reads:

Whereas section 97 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe provides for the removal of the President from office on any of the five (5) grounds set out in section 97(1) (a) to (e).
Whereas circumstances and events have arisen as well as facts ascertained from medical teams dealing with the situation of the mental health and capacity of the President, that the President as of this day the 30th of March 2025 has been physically ascertained and medically confirmed to be exhibiting severe cognitive decline, affecting both long and short memory and thinking, judgment and behavior.

However, Muswere asserted that Mnangagwa’s support spans across the political divide, with many opposition MPs also backing him.
He described Geza’s grounds for impeachment as a “vexatious figment of his imagination that will never see the light of day.” Said Muswere:

That piece of trash being circulated amounts to nothing. ZANU PF has a majority in Parliament and Honourable members of the august House across the political divide appreciate the great work that has been achieved by the Second Republic, led by His Excellency, Cde Dr President E.D. Mnangagwa.
Geza is in hiding and wanted to use data to foment an uprising that never succeeded as the peace-loving people of Zimbabwe refused to be used to drive agendas they are not part of. He is wanted by the police to answer for his treasonous activities.

The government said Geza's plan to impeach the president won't work because it is based on lies. Geza's group accused the president of being mentally unfit, but the government says it's not true. They said the president has support from both his party and some opposition members. The government called Geza a fugitive and said he is wanted by the police for being a troublemaker. The government thinks Geza's plan is worthless and won't succeed because many people support the president.

Government Dismisses Geza's Impeachment Motion As "Stack Of Lies"

Outspoken war veteran Blessed Runesu Geza, also known as Comrade Bombshell, has accused businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei of causing problems in the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church in Zimbabwe.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel on Wednesday, April 2, Geza said Tagwirei has damaged the church’s reputation. He said:

You have destroyed the SDA church. There are clashes now in the SDA church because of you. Because of your greediness. You tarnish the SDA church’s image. Destroying all the dignity the church had. It is our church.
</blockquote>
Geza accused Tagwirei of benefiting from government contracts without proper financial contributions, alleging that the government covers any associated costs. He said:
<blockquote>
You’re being given government companies without paying any cent. If there is any money that is being paid, it is the government that pays on your behalf. You’re greedy. You’re a very toxic man.
</blockquote>
Prominent lawyer Advocate Thabani Mpofu, a member of the SDA church, said he does not agree with Tagwirei’s current moves. Said Mpofu:

I do not represent or speak on behalf of the SDA Church. As an individual outside of its formal structures (and a mere Usher at best), I do not feel obligated to defend its actions or decisions, particularly regarding the Tagwirei issue, with which I personally disagree.
The nation must direct its concerns, which I feel are legitimate, to the church itself which has a moral obligation to address them. I share the concerns being raised by Zimbabweans; particularly as recently articulated by Elder Geza.
On the question of how this country must be run, my views align with those of the Catholic Bishops.

Tagwirei has been accused of causing division in the SDA church in Harare by using his financial influence to win over pastors and elders, making them loyal to him.

Geza claimed that President Mnangagwa’s plan is to sideline Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and allow Tagwirei to replace him.
Reports suggest that the plan is for Tagwirei to first take over Chiwenga’s Vice President role, then be prepared to succeed Mnangagwa as president.
Geza, who has accused Tagwirei of corruption, vowed to stop what he believes is a plot by Mnangagwa and his wife, Auxillia, to help Tagwirei become president.

Geza Says Kuda Tagwirei Has Tarnished SDA Church's Image

War veteran Blessed Runesu Geza, also known as Comrade Bombshell, announced that he and other colleagues opposed to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s third-term bid are now pursuing the impeachment route.
Impeachment is a legal process in which a public official, typically a president, is formally accused of wrongdoing or misconduct during their time in office. It is used to remove the official from their position if they are found guilty of serious offenses such as corruption, abuse of power, or violations of the law.
Speaking through his YouTube channel on Wednesday, 02 April, Geza said Mnangagwa is no longer mentally fit to lead the country. He said:

Today, I am announcing a further step in our struggle to save Zimbabwe from Emmerson and his looting mafia. We have taken our struggle to another level. We are impeaching President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa. The die has been cast, and tomorrow we are setting this process in motion.
We are impeaching Emmerson on the grounds that he is no longer mentally fit to lead the country.
We are constitutionalists, so we are using the Constitution to rescue the country. Section 97(1)(d) of the Constitution provides for the removal of a president on the grounds of inability to perform presidential functions due to a lack of mental capacity.

Geza claimed that President Mnangagwa suffers from vascular dementia and is no longer capable of effectively carrying out his presidential duties.
Vascular dementia is a condition caused by reduced blood flow to the brain, leading to brain cell damage. This can impair cognitive functions such as memory, thinking, and problem-solving. Said Geza:

Mnangagwa is suffering from vascular dementia. We have copies of his medical results. His doctors have already informed him, his family is aware, and the looting mafia is also aware.”
Unfortunately, some members of his family and the looting mafia, led by Kudakwashe Tagwirei, are exploiting his condition. They are taking advantage of his memory loss and confusion to make him sign documents that facilitate their corruption and looting.
Because of this vascular dementia, Mnangagwa is no longer aware of what is happening around him. It is so serious that last Thursday, he even forgot who July Moyo was or which ministry he runs. He argues with his aides about whether he is at home or at the office—that is how bad it has become.”
As a result, vultures are circling around him, looting in his name, selling state-owned companies, and even hiring and firing government officials on his behalf. That is how bad things have gotten.

Geza asserted that some unelected people are now wielding presidential powers and making decisions, including awarding government tenders, without any official mandate. He said:
<blockquote>
Dubious characters, whom you didn’t elect, are now exercising presidential powers. They follow him to his farm to distribute government tenders in his name. They seize land in his name. They even appoint and dismiss army generals on his behalf. It has become a free-for-all for the criminals surrounding him.
</blockquote>
In May 2018, Mnangagwa told ZANU-PF members that he had received intelligence indicating some aspiring MPs were plotting to impeach him once elected.
In November 2017, the Parliament of Zimbabwe initiated an impeachment process against former President Robert Mugabe. 
However, Mugabe resigned before the proceedings could be completed, following the military’s actions that rendered him incommunicado.

He is the founder and CEO of Sakunda Holdings, a company involved in energy and infrastructure projects.
Recently, ZANU PF’s Harare Province recommended Tagwirei for a position in the party’s Central Committee—the ruling party’s top decision-making body when Congress is not in session, with powers to amend the constitution, implement policies, and oversee party and government activities.
During an address to the nation on Monday evening, Geza alleged that President Mnangagwa’s plan was to marginalise Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and allow Tagwirei to replace him.
According to reports, the plan is for Tagwirei to first take Chiwenga’s position as Vice President before being groomed as Mnangagwa’s successor.
Geza, who has accused Tagwirei of corruption, vowed to thwart what he claims is a plan being orchestrated by Mnangagwa and his wife, Auxillia, to elevate Tagwirei to the presidency. Said Geza:

Geza Vows To Stop Kuda Tagwirei From Becoming Zimbabwe’s Next President

ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa has said President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s latest reshuffle of senior leaders within the security sector was a strategic move to place people loyal to him in key positions while removing those he did not fully trust.
Speaking to journalists at the ZANU PF headquarters in Harare on Tuesday, 1 April, Mutsvangwa confirmed that the reshuffle was, in part, a response to the uprising called for by former party Central Committee member Blessed Geza on 31 March. Said Mutsvangwa:

The President, to make sure that the state apparatus was in safe hands, he made dramatic changes in the structures of our state apparatus.
I want to congratulate the new leaders who were put in place as we approached 31 March.
They have proved their capacity by making sure that they are loyal to the President of the Republic, that they defend the interests of the people of Zimbabwe and that they keep the professional traditions of our state apparatus intact. It is well-respected all over Africa.
So, hats off to General Emmanuel Matatu. Hats off to comrade Shepherd Mutamba at ZRP. Hats off to Central Intelligence Director Fulton Mangwanya.

Just five days before the 31st of March, Mnangagwa appointed Major General Emmanuel Matatu (74) as the new Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), replacing Anselem Sanyatwe (69), who was retired and appointed as the Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture.
Sanyatwe is believed to be an ally of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who is reportedly in a behind-the-scenes tussle with Mnangagwa over the country’s leadership succession.
In a series of significant changes, Mnangagwa also appointed Fulton Mangwanya, the former head of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, as the new Director-General of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) in January. Mangwanya took over from Isaac Moyo, a close ally of the president.
Furthermore, in December 2024, Mnangagwa named Stephen Mutamba as the new Commissioner General of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), succeeding Godwin Matanga.

Mutsvangwa: ED’s Security Reshuffle Was A Response To Uprising Threat

The Member of Parliament for Insiza North Constituency, Farai Taruvinga (ZANU PF), has passed away at the age of 53 after a long battle with colon cancer.
Taruvinga, who was deeply committed to the development of his local community, passed away on Monday, 31 March, in Bulawayo.
Mangaliso Ndlovu, the ZANU PF Provincial Chairman for Matabeleland South, confirmed the news of Taruvinga’s death, expressing his sorrow:

I can confirm that we have lost the Member of the National Assembly for Insiza North. He had been unwell for some time.

Taruvinga had been serving his second term as a Member of Parliament and had a notable career in business, particularly in the mining sector. He was the owner of Progress Mines in Filabusi.

Farai Taruvinga, who was a Member of Parliament, has died at 53 due to colon cancer. He cared about helping his community. He passed away in Bulawayo on March 31. The ZANU PF Chairman in Matabeleland South confirmed his death and said Taruvinga had been sick for a while. Taruvinga was serving his second term as a Member of Parliament and was also successful in the mining business. He owned Progress Mines in Filabusi.

Insiza North MP Farai Taruvinga Has Died

The ZANU PF Harare Province has decided to recommend businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei for a position in the ruling party’s Central Committee.
The Central Committee is the party’s top decision-making body when Congress is not in session, with powers to amend the constitution, implement policies, and manage party and government activities.
During a meeting on Monday afternoon (31 March) at the party’s provincial headquarters, provincial chairperson Godwills Masimirembwa described Tagwirei as a visionary business leader. He said:

Members of the Central Committee in Harare have proposed that Cde Tagwirei be recommended for co-option into the Central Committee of ZANU PF.
Cde Tagwirei is a party member in the Harare Metropolitan Province. He is a business strategist; a visionary business leader.
So the proposal was put forward and the PCC unanimously agreed to recommend him for co-option into the Central Committee of ZANU PF.
We are going to submit this recommendation to the party’s Secretary-General, Dr Obert Mpofu.

Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has speculated that Tagwirei is on a path to be appointed to the ZANU PF politburo, potentially positioning him to succeed President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the party’s leader when the time comes.
Chin’ono suggested that this agenda serves as a tactical maneuver to prevent General Constantino Chiwenga from ascending to the presidency, allowing Mnangagwa to install his preferred successor instead.
Chin’ono also claimed that Mnangagwa is planning to retire his “clansman”, General Philip Valerio Sibanda, from the army and bring him in as a replacement for Vice-President Kembo Mohadi.

The ZANU PF Harare Province wants businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei to join the ruling party's Central Committee. This committee makes important decisions for the party. The province believes Tagwirei is a smart business leader and should be part of the committee. Journalist Hopewell Chin'ono thinks that Tagwirei might become the party leader in the future. Chin'ono also thinks that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has a plan to choose his own successor instead of General Constantino Chiwenga. Mnangagwa may also retire General Philip Valerio Sibanda from the army and make him Vice-President.

ZANU PF Harare Province Endorses Kudakwashe Tagwirei For Central Committee

ZANU PF Secretary for Youth Affairs, Tino Machakaire, expressed confidence that the ruling party will secure a victory in the upcoming by-election for the Glen View South National Assembly seat, set for April 12.
Machakaire made his remarks at a campaign rally organised by the ZANU PF Youth League at Chemhanza Grounds in Glen View South on Friday, March 28.
The event saw hundreds of supporters and senior party members come together to rally behind the ZANU PF candidate, Tsitsi Tawomhera.
Machakaire, who was the guest of honour, told the crowd that opposition political parties have failed the electorate and that ZANU PF is the party capable of righting those wrongs. Said Machakaire:

The opposition led councillors have failed to deliver for the people who voted them into office, especially those in urban areas. In Glen View South, sewage is gushing on people’s door steps, which is a health time bomb to the people. Only ZANU PF will end all the challenges for the people.
We cannot afford to lose the seat if we have proper structures in the constituency. With the level of development which is being carried across the country by the Government under the leadership of President Mnangagwa, the electorate will vote for ZANU PF.
The Government is currently working on rehabilitating roads in the area, capacitating youth with ICT skills, and drilling boreholes to ensure access to clean water for residents.

Tawomhera will face stiff competition from four other candidates: Perpetua Mukanda from the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA), as well as independent candidates Chakeredza Tonderai, Tungamirai Madzokere, and George Makwangwaidze.
The Glen View South seat became vacant following the passing of Gladymore Hakata, a member of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party.

ZANU PF Confident Of Victory In Glen View South By-Election

MDC president Douglas Mwonzora has said President Emmerson Mnangagwa has no legal pathway to extend his term beyond 2028 unless he declares a state of emergency.
Mwonzora, who co-chaired the Constitutional Parliamentary Committee (COPAC) responsible for drafting Zimbabwe’s 2013 Constitution, which replaced the Lancaster House Constitution of 1979, dismissed recent attempts by ZANU PF-aligned legislators to push for term limit extensions through parliamentary motions, calling them legally invalid.
He asserted that any such amendment would require a national referendum, a step ZANU PF is keen to avoid.
Speaking at a press conference in Bulawayo, Mwonzora pointed out that Section 328 of the Constitution explicitly prohibits incumbents from extending their terms without a referendum. He said:

The constitution is very clear about what needs to be done to amend the term limit clause.
All lawyers of substance agree on that point. (Professor Lovemore) Madhuku agrees, I agree, (Professor) Welshman (Ncube) agrees, Tendai Biti agrees, (Patrick) Chinamasa agrees.
But half-baked lawyers like Ziyambi Ziyambi will say things that do not make sense. That’s the problem with being a laboratory assistant, then studying law by correspondence and wanting to speak authoritatively on the constitution.

Mwonzora strongly criticized Justice, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi after ZANU PF officials claimed that term limits could be changed through parliamentary processes alone. Mwonzora called this a deliberate misunderstanding of the law. He said:

Ziyambi is very, very wrong. The constitution says the clause that deals with term limits must be amended in the same manner as the Bill of Rights, through a referendum.
We wrote it in convoluted language because we did not want the government at the time to notice during the drafting. Coincidentally, the drafting was done here in Bulawayo.

Mwonzora also referred to a video from ZANU PF’s National People’s Conference in Bulawayo last year, where former Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa acknowledged that extending term limits would require two referendums – one to amend the term-limit clause and another to allow Mnangagwa to benefit from the extension.
He accused Ziyambi and the pro-2030 agenda group of wanting to avoid a referendum out of fear that they would lose.
Mwonzora warned that the only constitutional way for Mnangagwa to stay in power beyond 2028 would be by declaring a state of emergency, a move that could lead to the suspension of certain democratic rights. He added:

But we were very clear in the constitution, very careful, that a state of emergency had to have a time limit, a length of time.
Maybe if they start havoc, if they start disorder themselves, and it’s not beyond them, they can start disorder and have a state of emergency, but apart from that, there is no other legal way that Mnangagwa can extend his term of office.

Mwonzora also pointed out that Mnangagwa is currently 83, and by 2028, he will be 86. If he were to secure a third term, he would be 91.
He questioned why Zimbabweans should be subjected to such leadership, adding that the country has enough capable and intelligent young people to govern its affairs, and that Zimbabweans did not ask to be ruled by “geriatrics”.

Several reports have alleged that business premises owned by figures such as Kuda Tagwirei, Wicknell Chivayo, Tino Machakaire, and John Mangudya, the former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor and current CEO of Mutapa Investment Fund, were attacked with petrol bombs shortly after midnight on Friday.
In a post on X, showing a picture of a charred car allegedly from the crime scene, Mangwana suggested that the assailants had brought an old vehicle and placed it “outside some place” before setting it on fire and fleeing the scene to create fear and confusion. Wrote Mangwana:

Wow, what a mastermind plan! They collect some clunkers, drive them to a spot outside some place, set them ablaze, and then sprint away like lunatics. And the grand strategy behind this “genius move” is… to what? Scare someone? Please. And there are actually people holding their breaths, eagerly awaiting these amateurish stunts? The fire incident occurred approximately 48 hours after war veteran Blessed Geza labelled Tagwirei and Chivayo as “criminals around the president.”

A government spokesperson named Nick Mangwana said that the alleged petrol-bombing incidents in Harare were just amateurish stunts. Some reports said that business places owned by famous people connected to ZANU PF were attacked by unknown people with petrol bombs. Mangwana posted a picture of a burnt car and said the attackers brought old cars, set them on fire, and ran away to create fear. This happened after someone called Tagwirei and Chivayo criminals around the president. Mangwana thinks the attackers did this to scare people, but he called it a silly plan.

Mangwana Dismisses Alleged Petrol-Bombing Incidents In Harare As "Amateurish Stunts"

The removal of Lieutenant-General Anselem Sanyatwe from the helm of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) on Tuesday, and expelled former ZANU PF Central Committee member Blessed “Bombshell” Geza’s outbursts on social media on Wednesday, have been seen as escalating ZANU PF factional infighting.
The NewsHawks reported that a state security official dealing with the current situation, including the planned March 31 protests, said that people may be the biggest losers again in the latest round of the ZANU PF succession battle.
The official, who was not named for professional and security reasons, is quoted as saying:

This is an internal ZANU PF matter, with legitimate public interest. The question is, who benefits from these protests?
The November 2017 coup, which led to the ousting of President Robert Mugabe, was initially celebrated by many Zimbabweans who thronged the streets, seeing it as a chance for change and a break from Mugabe’s authoritarian rule and economic woes.
However, as time has shown, the coup ultimately benefited the military and the ruling elite only, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa, a former Mugabe ally, taking power.
The promised reforms and improvements in the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans have been slow to materialise, and many have been left feeling disappointed and disillusioned.
Now, with the looming protests on March 31, there are concerns that history might repeat itself, and the people might again be the losers.
The demonstrations, which are being driven by widespread discontent with the government’s handling of the economy and corruption, might provide an opportunity for the military or other opportunistic, powerful interests to exploit the situation and further entrench their power.

Geza, a former Sanyati MP and ZANU PF Central Committee member, claims that individuals close to Mnangagwa are looting the country for personal gain, while the majority of Zimbabweans continue to suffer in extreme poverty.
However, top security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed concerns to The NewsHawks about the “real motive” behind the loud calls to oust Mnangagwa.
They warned that the situation resembles the empty “Mugabe must go” slogan from the past, lacking a clear plan for what would follow or how to secure the people’s interests.
The security officials also voiced concern over the country being swept into an internal ZANU PF issue, without clarifying how such a shift would improve the living conditions and material well-being of the people. Said the official:

Who benefits from this? That question must be asked upfront, not later. Yes, Geza has tried to seize the moment and opportunity of socio-economic disgruntlement around the country to fuel and incite anger against Mnangagwa’s government, but do you think people benefit from this? Ordinary people don’t seem enthusiastic about street protests and may just stay away. 
It is because they don’t trust the process and don’t want to be used again, as happened in 2017.
While the disgruntled war veterans have gained a lot of popularity and traction with Geza’s incessant attacks, that whole cabal, fronting some wounded interests and comrades, has made some strategic blunders by revealing why they want regime change.
It is all about themselves, not the people. They are fighting for their time to eat. It might be difficult to mobilise the people for March 31. Yes, people are suffering, but they don’t want to be used. That is clear. 
The situation is made worse by the fact that people like popular opposition leader Nelson Chamisa and those within his latent structures are not involved in this.
In our assessment, based on the current situation and past experiences, Zimbabweans are not only wiser-after they were used, shortchanged and abandoned in 2017-but also contextual and discerning.

March 31 Protests: Zimbabweans Warned Against Being Exploited In ZANU PF Succession Battle

Former ZANU PF central committee member, Blessed Runesu Geza, says there is no justification for 16 million Zimbabweans to suffer at the hands of what he referred to as criminals surrounding President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
On Wednesday, 26 March 2025, Geza released a new video reiterating his calls for “an uprising” to force Mnangagwa to resign on March 31. He declared:

We want an uprising from Plumtree to Mutare, from Zambezi to Limpopo, everyone should flood the streets, Mnangagwa must go.

Geza, who is wanted by the police for allegedly inciting violence and civil unrest through his public statements, appeared in a YouTube video from an undisclosed location wearing military fatigues.
In the video, he named what he referred to as “criminals around Mnangagwa” and a second group of “political criminals.”
The first list included businessmen Wicknell Chivayo, Kudakwashe Tagwirei, Scott Sakupwanya, and Mnangagwa’s wife, Auxilia. He said:

We’re people of action, you need to buy data because you will see the action we will take about these criminals.
They’re not many in number, on the other hand it’s 16 million of us. Why should we suffer at the hands of a few?
It’s sad what’s happening, you now even hear people saying colonial rule was better. All this is being caused by these political criminals.
We’re dealing with Mnangagwa on March 31 but these criminals we’re going after them starting from now.
These people think they’re very clever, but they’re going to regret. It’s they who will in the end voluntarily go to Mnangagwa and say ‘please go now, we’re suffering’.

Geza, who claims to represent a group of war veterans, said they were “very sorry that we let you down” after years of backing the ZANU PF leadership.
Geza has urged opposition leaders to join his call for action, but questions remain about his democratic credentials.
During a ZANU PF politburo meeting in Harare on Wednesday, Mnangagwa said he had enough support from “patriotic citizens to squash efforts by malcontents and rogue, delusional elements bent on disturbing our peace, unity, and harmony.”

Geza, who was recently expelled from ZANU PF, has been at the forefront of calling for mass protests to force President Emmerson Mnangagwa to resign, accusing him of corruption, nepotism, cronyism, and incompetence.
Masarira warned that the protests are not about the people’s suffering, but rather a factional battle within ZANU PF. She wrote on X:

It is unfortunate that every time someone calls for strategic thinking instead of blind reaction, they are accused of benefiting from the regime. 
Let me make this clear once again: I am not, and have never been, a regime enabler. My commitment has always been to fighting for justice, economic freedom, and a better Zimbabwe for all, not for a political party but for the people.
Being in opposition does not mean embracing chaos or supporting reckless actions that do not lead to real change. I refuse to be used as a pawn in internal ZANU-PF power struggles. 
The M31 protests are not about the people’s suffering they are a factional battle within ZANU-PF. We have seen this script before, and it does not end with freedom for Zimbabweans.

Masarira said that opposing bad governance should not mean blindly following those who manipulate genuine grievances for their own political gain. She added:

I stand with the people, and I will always fight for real solutions that bring lasting change not short-term reactions that only benefit a few individuals in political fights.
If you believe I am benefiting from the regime, show me where. My record speaks for itself. I have always stood for the people, and I will continue to do so without apology.

MDC president Douglas Mwonzora has accused Zimbabwe’s judiciary of attempting to destabilize his party after its opposition to ZANU PF’s plan to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s second and final term from 2028 to 2030.
Speaking at a press conference in Bulawayo on Sunday, Mwonzora claimed that a recent High Court ruling nullifying the MDC’s 2022 congress was a deliberate attempt to render the party leaderless and undermine its opposition to constitutional amendments that could extend Mnangagwa’s presidency.
Mwonzora also said the MDC has been at the forefront of resisting the “ED2030 agenda,” which seeks to extend Mnangagwa’s time in office. He said:

It was the MDC which held a press conference in Harare in January this year to announce its opposition to the machinations of ZANU PF in trying to give President Mnangagwa a third term.
We were then joined by other political parties, civil society organisations, the church was very strong and war veterans, who are very strong on that point.
It was not the war veterans who started the fight against the 2030 Agenda, it was the MDC. We may be saying it in different words, and agendas may also be different, but our agenda as the MDC is that we are against the desecration of our constitution.

Mwonzora claimed that the decision to nullify the MDC’s 2022 congress by High Court Judge Justice Hapias Zhou was politically motivated.
The High Court judgment cited two main reasons for nullifying the congress: MDC gave 24 days’ notice instead of the required 30 days, and the women’s congress was not concluded.
Mwonzora dismissed these reasons as minor technicalities, pointing out that the MDC has historically deferred certain aspects of its congresses without invalidating the entire process.
He added that the MDC has appealed the decision to the Supreme Court, which effectively suspends the judgment. Said Mwonzora:

Even if we had not appealed, this judgment does not affect anything. It restores the leadership as elected at the extraordinary congress, and I remain the leader. Whoever did the math did not calculate well because they left me in charge again.

We can’t say for sure, but a series of coincidences point to the hand of the state. This judgment is very unsound and illogical.
The court case was lodged in 2022, nothing was done in 2023 and in 2024, coincidentally when we raised the issue of our opposition to the third term.
There is a direct coincidence that is strange and leads us to conclude that there is a third hand.

Mwonzora Accuses Judiciary Of Targeting MDC For Opposing ED2030 Agenda

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has retired Lieutenant General Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe from the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) and his position as Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA).
In a statement released on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, Martin Rushwaya, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, announced that Sanyatwe’s retirement takes effect immediately.
Rushwaya also revealed that Sanyatwe has been appointed as the new Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, with the appointment effective immediately. Said Rushwaya:

In terms of section 216 (2) (Command of Defence Forces) as read with section 340 (1) (f) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe and section 115 (Commander in Chief Prerogative) of the Defence Act [Chapter 11:02], the President, in His capacity as such and as Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces has relieved and retired, Lieutenant General Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe, from the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and as Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army with immediate effect.
And:
In terms of section 104 (3) of the Constitution, appoints Lieutenant General (Rtd) Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe as Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture with immediate effect.

This is not the first time Lieutenant General Sanyatwe has been retired from the Zimbabwe National Army. He was retired in 2019 and was appointed as Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Tanzania.
However, he was later recalled from his ambassadorial role and reappointed as the Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) following the retirement of Lieutenant General David Sigauke.
On November 12, 2018, Sanyatwe, then a Brigadier-General and Commanding Officer of the Presidential Guard, testified before the Mothlane Commission of Inquiry.
During his testimony, he denied any involvement in the August 1 killings, asserting that the soldiers under his command had not fired on the crowds.
Responding to a commissioner who had asked if any dead bodies were recovered from the area where the kneeling soldier was firing, he said:

No, sir. If you watch that video closely, that soldier who took a kneeling position whilst firing; if you check properly [with] military experts, that rifle was being fired at an angle of 45 degrees in the air, and not directly at the [people].

Meanwhile, in a post on X on Saturday, social media personality LynneM claimed that a meeting was held at Precabe Farm on that day where a decision was allegedly made to remove Sanyatwe from the military and appoint him a Cabinet Minister.
She claimed that “in attendance were ED, Dr Amai Auxy, Tagwirei K, Emm-Jnr &amp; Mupostori Shumba, those in ZANUPF circles know this Mupostori Shumba.” She added:

The plan of the meeting is to use the election of Minister Kirsty Coventry to the position of IOC President as an excuse for a cabinet reshuffle that will see the removal of the Genroll Chiwenga’s loyalists from any position that has direct links to the security sector.
The target in this scenario is General Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe, who is going to be “promoted” from ZNA Commander to Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation.
Gen Sanyatwe will be replaced by Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi who worked with Tagwirei at FAZ.
Sanyatwe’s wife will be moved from Deputy Minister for Home Affairs to a ministry yet to be established.

In the past, he was made an ambassador but later returned as an army commander. There were allegations and denials about his involvement in killings. Mnangagwa Retires ZNA Commander Lieutenant General Sanyatwe, Appoints Him Sports Minister

Nelson Chamisa, the former leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has distanced himself from the planned mass protests on March 31, 2025, called by expelled ZANU PF Central Committee member, Blessed Runesu Geza.
Geza’s call for protests is in response to a push by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s loyalists to extend his second and final term from 2028 to 2030.
Last week, Geza, who is wanted by the police for alleged theft and other crimes, mentioned several opposition figures, including Chamisa, former Finance Minister Tendai Biti, and former MP Job Sikhala, claiming that they supported the protests aimed at pushing Mnangagwa out of office sooner.
In a statement made via YouTube from an undisclosed location last Tuesday, Geza suggested these opposition figures were backing the protest.
However, Chamisa clarified that while he is open to constructive dialogue with any party, he has not been involved in any discussions related to the protests or recent events. He wrote on social media:

I want to clarify that my door is always open to speak with anyone who reaches out to me for constructive conversations and nation building, but I have not been involved in recent dialogues with anyone. I do not want to be made the focal point of things that have nothing to do with me.

Geza, a former intelligence operative, claimed that some prominent opposition politicians support Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s potential bid to succeed Mnangagwa. He said:

We have spoken with all political players. The likes of Chamisa, Sikhala, Biti, Komichi and Mwonzora. We did not leave anyone behind. We have agreed on the way forward. And among all these people, no one does not like Chiwenga.

Chamisa Distances Himself From Geza's Call For March 31 Protests

Andreas Ethan Mathibela, leader of a faction of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA), has been declared a “person of security interest” by the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), restricting him from leaving Zimbabwe.
A leaked memo from the President’s Department, dated 19 March 2025, instructed regional immigration officers, including those at the Plumtree, Maitengwe, and Mphoengs border posts, to prevent Mathibela from exiting the country. It reads:

Should he present himself at Plumtree, Maitengwe, or Mphoengs Border Posts, your office must deny him exit and inform the President’s Department.

Mathibela has been vocal in his criticism of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and has also opposed ZANU PF’s plans to extend Mnangagwa’s second and final term from 2028 to 2030.
On Monday, unidentified youths disrupted Mathibela’s press briefing at the Bulawayo Media Centre.
Over the weekend, State Security Minister Lovemore Matuke warned that any demonstrations against Mnangagwa would be “dealt with decisively.” The CIO operates under Matuke’s ministry and is overseen by the Office of the President.
