The founder and leader of River of Life International Church, 57-year-old Bothwell Phiri, is facing attempted murder charges after he allegedly shot his son, Jordan, mistaking him for an intruder at their Kumalo suburb home in Bulawayo early Monday morning.
According to Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the acting spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Bulawayo, Jordan, 29, had returned home late from their plot in Esigodini.
Finding the door locked, he tried to enter the house through a window. Said Msebele:

He opened a window and as he attempted to gain entry, he was shot in the groin by the accused person. When the accused realised it was his son, he rushed him to UBH for treatment.

Msebele said Phiri told the police he shot his son, mistaking him for an intruder. However, she confirmed that the son is currently in stable condition. Said Msebele:

This was an unfortunate incident. The accused person was interviewed and told police he mistakenly shot his son as he thought he was an intruder.
The firearm was checked and police confirmed that he is a licensed holder of the firearm.

An armed inmate, Luke Zinyengerere, reportedly staged a dramatic escape from Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) officers at the Harare Magistrate Court on Friday, 21 March.
According to reports, Zinyengerere pointed a gun at the officers escorting prisoners to a transport van, hijacked another motorist’s vehicle, and sped away.
Zinyengerere is alleged to have smuggled a revolver into the facility, which he used to threaten a prison officer before making his dramatic escape.
It is suspected the firearm may have been brought into the facility by someone at the remand prison.
Zinyengerere’s accomplice, Tafadzwa Marondera, was apprehended at the scene after attempting to escape by jumping over the court’s palisade fence.
Both Zinyengerere and Marondera are facing armed robbery charges.

Armed Robbery Suspect Escapes From Harare Magistrate Court And Hijacks Vehicle

Three people, including a police officer, have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a Marondera farm owned by the in-laws of businessman Wicknell Chivayo.
According to ZimLive, police sources revealed that the three suspects, all from Hopley in Harare, were arrested on Thursday by detectives from the CID Stores and Business division.
A constable, identified as Mukuva from the Kopje Police Station, is reportedly on the run after being linked to the crime.
The robbery occurred in the early hours of March 18, during which an estimated US$74,100 — part of the lobola (bride price) payment made by Chivayo for his wife, Lucy “Lulu” Muteke — was allegedly stolen.
The suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Saturday.
Police believe as many as 20 people, some armed with firearms and machetes, were involved in the daring heist.

Three Suspects Arrested For Allegedly Robbing Wicknell Chivayo's In-Laws' Of US$74,000

High Court judge Justice Gibson Mandaza on Friday, 21 March, denied HStv senior journalist Blessed Mhlanga’s bail application.
Mhlanga (44), who is facing charges under Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, has been in remand since his arrest last month.
The journalist was arrested on February 24 after turning himself in to the police. He is accused of unlawfully recording a video of Blessed Runesu Geza and allegedly distributing it on YouTube via Heart and Soul Broadcasting Services channels.
On February 28, Harare magistrate Farai Gwitima denied Mhlanga bail, saying he might interfere with witnesses.
Mhlanga’s lawyer, Chris Mhike, appealed the decision on March 7, arguing that there were no valid reasons to keep him in detention.
However, in his ruling on Friday, which lasted nearly an hour, Justice Mandaza said he found no error in the Magistrates Court’s decision. He said:

It is my view that there was a proper exercise of discretion in this matter by denying the appellant bail.
After careful examination, I did not find any misdirection by the lower court.
In the end, the decision of this court is that the appeal by the appellant against the decision of the magistrate court on February 25 is being dismissed.

Justice Mandaza said the charge against Mhlanga is about transmitting data messages that led to inciting violence.
He asserted that it doesn’t matter whether the words were spoken by Blessed Geza or someone else; the nature of the charge remains the same. Said the judge:

The offence is that as an employee of HStv, he (Mhlanga) transmitted violent messages. There is no absurdity.
The charge is about transmitting data messages leading to incitement of violence. It is not an essential element of the offence that the violence must have occurred.
What is clear from the message is that there were undertones of violent messages aimed at the President and police officers.
Whether the words were uttered by Blessed Geza or someone else, it doesn’t change the nature of the charge.

Police have arrested three men in connection with an armed robbery that took place on March 10 at Kirsty Coventry’s parents’ house in Harare.

Two brothers, John and Mike Nongwe, are set to appear in court on Friday, facing charges related to the burglary.
The brothers, armed with guns, held Coventry’s parents, Robert Edwin and Lyn Coventry, hostage by tying their hands and legs with shoelaces at their home in Harare’s Glen Lorne neighbourhood.
The robbers ransacked the house, stealing $15,000 in cash, jewellery worth $60,000, three hair dryers, Coventry’s Olympic swimsuits, travel bags, hearing aids valued at $5,000, and three hunting firearms.
Police have recovered some of the stolen items from the suspects, which will be presented as evidence in court.

Journalist Blessed Mhlanga Back In Court For Ruling On Bail Appeal

A passenger was shot and killed by police officers in Mwenezi after the vehicle he was in allegedly sped off when waved down near Rutenga along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway on Tuesday.
This area is known for robberies and carjackings.
The deceased, 21-year-old Shadreck Madzore, was sitting at the back of a pick-up truck when he was reportedly hit by two bullets fired from an unmarked Toyota Probox car used by the police.
After a high-speed chase, both vehicles stopped at the tollgate, where police discovered that Madzore had been shot dead.
The deceased’s relatives told NewsDay that police arrested the truck driver and another passenger, accusing them of being robbers. However, they were later released without any charges.
Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, the spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Masvingo Province, said he had not yet received the report at the time of writing.
Samson Madzore, the deceased’s uncle, accused the police of overreacting and misusing their firearms. He said:

The car which is mine had a puncture at that detour. We heard that soon after replacing the wheel, they (the driver and his passengers) proceeded, but were flagged by a Toyota Probox car without plates.
Fearing robbers, they did not stop. My driver sped off with the other car in hot pursuit.
The occupants of the car opened fire and hit Shadreck twice and that is the statement made to police in our presence.

Reports say that last week, a haulage truck driver was assaulted and robbed of cash and valuables in the same area.
Given this recent incident, it’s possible that the driver of the vehicle in which Shadreck Madzore was a passenger feared the police vehicle might belong to armed robbers since it was unmarked and had no number plates.

Herentals College [Private] Limited has been fined US$300 by the Gweru Magistrates’ Court for operating an unregistered independent college in Gweru’s central business district, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed.
In a statement, the NPA said that the court found Herentals College [Private] Limited had unlawfully established, operated, and maintained Herentals College in Gweru CBD from 2022 to March 2025 without the required registration from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. This violated the Education Act, which mandates that all independent colleges must be officially registered.
Investigations revealed that the college had a significant student population, ranging from 400 to 500 students, and employed eight teachers across various subjects.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education confirmed that Herentals College in Gweru CBD was not registered and had never applied for registration.
Herentals College [Private] Limited is part of the Herentals Group of Colleges, a privately owned educational institution in Zimbabwe.
The group operates several branches nationwide, including in Harare and Chitungwiza, offering education at various levels, including secondary and higher education. Most of these branches are officially registered with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
The Herentals Group was founded in 1998 by Innocent Dambudzo Benza and his wife, Patience, initially offering extra lessons for students.
The institution has since grown into a network of schools and colleges across the country.
Benza is also known for his involvement in sports, including owning the Herentals Football Club.

Herentals College in Gweru got fined $300 for running a school without proper registration. They had many students and teachers but didn't follow the law. The group that owns the college has schools all over Zimbabwe. They started in 1998 and have grown a lot since then. The founder is also into sports and owns a football club. Herentals College Fined US$300 For Operating Unregistered Branch In Gweru

A 34-year-old man has been in prison for nearly a month after his arrest in February for allegedly making derogatory remarks about President Emmerson Mnangagwa and praising Blessed Runesu Geza, a war veteran and former ZANU PF Central Committee member.
According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Alfred Ngonidzaishe Machakaire, a resident of Gowo village in Chief Makoni’s area in Inyati, Makoni District, Manicaland province, has spent 24 days in police custody and at Reshape Prison in Manicaland.
Machakaire was arrested on February 24, charged with undermining the authority of or insulting President Mnangagwa under section 33(2)(a)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Prosecutors claim that Machakaire insulted President Mnangagwa during a verbal altercation with Leonard Chidemo, a ZANU PF Councillor for Ward 5 in Makoni North constituency.
The incident occurred at Mugadza Bottle Store at Runyange Business Centre in Chendambuya, where Machakaire allegedly asked Chidemo to buy him a beer.
When Chidemo refused, saying he had no money, Machakaire became upset and began shouting at the ZANU PF Councillor.
Prosecutors alleged that Machakaire insulted President Mnangagwa by saying: “You Chidemo, down with Mnangagwa, I am Geza, on the 31st, the country will be fine, Mnangagwa is a vagina, you have caused the death of people in the country.”
In addition to the insult, Machakaire allegedly praised Geza, a liberation war veteran and former ZANU PF member recently expelled from the party.
Machakaire’s case is one of many in Zimbabwe, where individuals have been arrested and prosecuted for allegedly undermining or insulting President Mnangagwa.
Machakaire is represented by Leonard Chigadza of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

A man, Alfred Machakaire, was arrested for insulting President Mnangagwa and praising Geza. He spent 24 days in prison. He insulted the president in a verbal disagreement with a ZANU PF Councillor. He said bad things about the president and praised Geza. This has happened to many people in Zimbabwe. Leonard Chigadza is representing Machakaire.

34-Year-Old Man Detained For Insulting Mnangagwa And Praising Geza

The driver of the kombi involved in the March 19 accident in Dzivarasekwa, Harare, lacked the necessary qualifications to operate a passenger vehicle. The accident left seven people dead and eight others injured.
In his condolence message, Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Felix Mhona (MP) also revealed that the kombi was neither roadworthy nor authorised to carry passengers. He said:

The road traffic crash is yet another clarion call to all transport operators, motorists, and members of the public to adhere to road traffic rules and exercise caution on the road.
It is concerning to note that the commuter omnibus was not certified to be roadworthy and not authorized to carry passengers and the driver did not have the requisite competences to drive a passenger service vehicle.
The failure by the commuter omnibus driver to give way was reckless and thus a blatant violation of our road traffic rules and regulations.

Mhona warned transport operators, motorists, and the public that the Ministry will take stern measures to ensure the safety and security of commuters.
According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the accident occurred at the intersection of Bulawayo Road and the Dzivarasekwa turn-off, near Thuli Service Station.
The crash involved a Toyota Hiace kombi, a haulage truck, and a UD 70 truck.
It is alleged that the kombi driver failed to yield at the traffic light-controlled junction, resulting in the accident.

A driver of a kombi in Zimbabwe caused a fatal accident in March because he was not qualified to drive passengers and the vehicle was not safe. Seven people died and eight were hurt. The Minister of Transport warned that all drivers must follow traffic rules. The police said the crash happened at an intersection involving two trucks and the kombi. The kombi driver did not follow the traffic light and caused the accident. The government will take serious action to keep people safe on the roads.

Kombi Driver Behind Fatal Dzivarasekwa Accident Was Unqualified, Vehicle Was Unroadworthy

The government has warned traditional leaders—chiefs, headmen, and village heads (MaSabhuku)—against the sale of communal land, as doing so is a criminal offence.
Obert Jiri, the Permanent Secretary for Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, called on traditional leaders to immediately stop any unauthorised land transactions, but instead, work closely with local rural district councils. Said Jiri:

We have seen the rise of sabhuku deals, which we certainly say no to.
</blockquote>
Jiri said that land management authority rests solely with the President, who oversees proper allocation.
He urged Zimbabweans seeking land to follow the correct procedures, warning that bypassing them only opens opportunities for exploitation by land barons.
The government is holding capacity-building workshops to educate traditional leaders on their roles, responsibilities, and the legal frameworks for managing communal land. Said Jiri:

There’s no need for anyone to obtain an offer letter from a window somewhere. An offer letter or a title deed must be processed in ministry offices. Engage the authorities that offer land, not anyone else.
</blockquote>
“Sabhuku land deals” refer to the illegal practice where traditional leaders, such as village heads, sell or allocate communal or state land to individuals for money or other benefits. This practice is especially prevalent in areas near towns and cities.

The government told traditional leaders not to sell communal land because it's illegal. They must work with councils instead. The President controls land allocation. Zimbabweans should follow procedures to get land to avoid exploitation. The government is educating leaders on their roles. "Sabhuku land deals" are when leaders sell state land illegally. Government Orders Traditional Leaders To Stop Sabhuku Land Deals

A Municipality of Chinhoyi pick-up truck’s rear windshield was shattered, and a security officer was injured during a violent clash with vendors in the central business district (CBD) at a popular vending spot known as Magaba on Tuesday afternoon.
The confrontation happened when council employees attempted to remove vendors from the streets. The move was part of the Municipality’s response to a recent directive from Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe, ordering local authorities to remove illegal vendors from undesignated vending areas.
Chinhoyi Municipality public relations officer Tichaona Mlauzi confirmed the clashes and identified the injured officer as Virginia Mlambo. Said Mlauzi:

There were some skirmishes, which occurred at Magaba complex. Our municipal police officers were busy enforcing bylaws that do not allow vendors to operate from undesignated areas, asking vendors to start operating from designated areas.
However, the vendors got rowdy after some instigation from one of them, and in the process they happened to be throwing stones which apparently shattered the rear screen of the municipal vehicle and also injured Constable Virginia Mlambo.

After the attack, the driver took the injured security officer to Chinhoyi Central Police Station, where she filed a formal report. Her condition was not known at the time of writing.
Police have opened a case for malicious damage to property and have arrested some suspects in connection with the violence.

Vendors Turn Violent As They Resist Removal From Chinhoyi CBD

A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer, accused of fatally shooting Detective Constable Cassandra Hove during a police operation in Bulawayo earlier this month, appeared in court on Tuesday, March 18, facing a murder charge.
Constable Nomore Muradzikwa, 37, stationed at Hillside Police Station, was brought before Bulawayo Magistrate Maxwell Ncube. 
He was not asked to plead and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court. Muradzikwa was represented by Tinashe Tashaya of Sengweni Legal Services and was remanded in custody to April 1.
The prosecution, led by Nkanyezi Xaba, outlined the events of March 6, 2025, when Muradzikwa and Detective Constable Hove were part of a team pursuing armed robbery suspects in Pumula South. Their target was 26-year-old Fikile Ncube, a resident of Pumula South.
Around 8:30 PM, the officers confronted Ncube in the Habbek area, near the home and church of Prophet Ngwenya. 
Xaba told the court that Muradzikwa was armed with a CZ pistol (serial number BSAP 44) when he advanced toward Ncube, who was a robbery suspect under investigation by CID Homicide. Said Xaba:

Muradzikwa was armed with a CZ pistol when he advanced towards Fikile Ncube. He corked his firearm and shot him hitting him once on the left elbow after which the bullet ricocheted and hit Hove once on the left breast resulting in her death.

The court also heard that the CZ pistol was recovered in Muradzikwa’s possession.
Initially, police had claimed that Detective Constable Hove was shot by armed robbers during the operation. However, Muradzikwa later admitted to firing the fatal shot.
Meanwhile, Hove’s family, who attended court, said they did so after learning from the media that Muradzikwa would be appearing. 
They expressed their frustration with the police, once again criticising their handling of the case. Abias Hove, the brother of the late detective said they expected the police to inform them first.
The family of Detective Constable Cassandra Hove still has many questions about her death, including why it took two weeks to bring her alleged killer to court.
Hove, a member of Bulawayo’s elite all-female CID unit, Team Lozikeyi, was buried on March 10 at her rural home in Mberengwa. She left behind four children.
Meanwhile, Fikile Ncube, the alleged suspect shot by police, spent several days under guard at Mpilo Central Hospital before being transferred to Khami Prison. 
His friends deny he is an armed robber, claiming Ncube came to Bulawayo to care for his unwell mother, who has been receiving treatment from Prophet Ngwenya. 
They said when he was shot, Ncube had been at Emabhombeni, near Ngwenya’s residence, where “bombing,” a ritual involving smashing bottles of “prayer water” against rocks, is performed.

"Bullet That Killed Detective Cassandra Hove Ricocheted Off Armed Robbery Suspect's Arm"

Wicknell Chivayo has offered a reward of US$100,000 for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of 20 suspected robbers who raided a farm in Marondera owned by his in-laws.
The robbery occurred on Tuesday morning, March 18, when the gang attacked Alpha and Omega Farm around 1 AM. The robbers seized US$74,100 in cash, a pistol, three cellphones, and other valuables.
During the raid, the gang assaulted security guards and some family members, who, realising they were cornered, surrendered the cash.
It is suspected that part of the stolen money was lobola (bride price) paid by Chivayo recently. This ceremony had been widely publicised on social media, which may have attracted the attention of the robbers.
On Tuesday, Chivayo posted on his social media accounts, offering a US$100,000 reward for credible information that leads to the robbers’ capture. He said:

It is with UTMOST REGRET that I share a very UNFORTUNATE incident that occurred at my in-laws’ residence in Marondera during the early hours of this morning, 18th March 2025. 
According to information confirmed by the Zimbabwe Republic Police, a case of armed robbery is under investigation involving 20 suspects who UNLAWFULLY gained access to my in-law’s residence at Alpha and Omega Farm and stole a significant sum of MONEY and various valuable items. 
I STRONGLY CONDEMN such cowardly criminal conduct and kindly request the public to cooperate with the police by providing any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of these offenders.

Maynard Manyowa, the lead investigator at Dug Up, said that staff at Marondera Provincial Hospital confirmed no expensive gadgets or money were taken from Munyaka’s body.

Journalist Watson Munyaka Killed In Marondera

Six armed robbers were fatally shot during an exchange of gunfire with detectives near the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road tollgate on March 18, 2025, between 2 AM and 4 AM.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
He said the suspects had robbed the Young Money General Dealer Shop in Insuza, loading their stolen goods into a silver Honda Fit before fleeing the scene.
The victims reported the robbery to the police, who swiftly deployed a team of detectives. The Honda Fit was spotted heading towards the tollgate, and when the officers ordered the suspects to stop, the robbers responded by opening fire. This triggered a gunfight that resulted in the suspects’ deaths. The statement reads:

The suspects spent the whole day monitoring and drinking beer in the complainant’s Young Money General’s Dealer Shop, Insuza. They later pounced on the two complainants while armed with pistols, knives and axes.
The suspects went on to tie the hands of the complainants with electric cables before covering their faces with blankets. They demanded gold and cash.
The suspects ransacked the whole shop and took away an unknown amount of cash, groceries, 48-volt lithium battery, an inverter, an amplifier, nine kilogrammes gas tank and cellphones.
They loaded the loot into their getaway silver Honda Fit vehicle, registration number, AEY 4843 and fled.
One of the complainants alerted their employer who quickly reported to the Police. A check along Victoria Falls Road spotted the Honda Fit vehicle as it was moving towards the toll gate.
Detectives ordered the suspects to stop. Instead, the suspects fired shots towards the Police officers leading to a shoot-out.
The suspects went on to hit the boom gate at the toll gate. They were arrested and taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals where they all unfortunately passed on. The Police recovered two pistols with four live rounds, two gas-operated stoves, two knives and an axe.
Some of the property stolen from the complainants which include groceries, a lithium battery and inverter, nine gas tanks and an amplifier were recovered from the vehicle.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that there is no going back in the fight against armed robbery syndicates in the country.
Any form of confrontation by criminals will be responded to through appropriate measures.

Police have appealed for information to help identify and arrest the 20 suspects responsible for an armed robbery at Omega Farm in Marondera on March 18, around 1 AM, during which cash and valuables were stolen.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed on Tuesday that an investigation is underway into the robbery, during which the assailants took US$74,100 in cash, a pistol, a Samsung S24, a Samsung S23, a Samsung Galaxy A35, and other valuables.
The robbers, armed with rifles, pistols, bolt cutters, machetes, and iron bars, attacked the farm’s security personnel. 
Nyathi said the suspects assaulted family members, cut through burglar screens, forced open doors, and gained entry into the house.

Police Launch Manhunt For 20 Suspects Following Armed Robbery At Chivayo's In-Laws' Farm

A gang of 20 armed men reportedly raided the Marondera farm of businessman Wicknell Chivayo’s in-laws on Tuesday, March 18, stealing US$75,000 in cash and various personal items. 
The money is believed to be part of the bride price Chivayo paid for his traditional marriage to Lucy “Lulu” Muteke on March 8.
Chivayo denied claims of paying US$300,000 in lobola but publicly stated that he sent US$75,000 to his in-laws for the ceremony.
The raid occurred early Tuesday morning when gunshots were heard, prompting Chivayo’s father-in-law, Christopher Mudzingwa Muteke, to send an SOS to a local farmers’ group. 
Farmers who arrived quickly retreated after realizing the operation was highly organized and military-style, with a large group of armed men and a white truck nearby.
The farm is protected by three armed guards from a private security company and a fourth employed directly by the Mutekes. 
One of the guards, employed by DM Security, told police he was grabbed by one of the robbers before noticing a group of 19 men armed with rifles, pistols, bolt cutters, machetes, and iron bars. 
The gang assaulted the guard and tied his hands with cable ties before overpowering a second guard, and disarmed him of his shotgun. 
A third guard was struck on the head before the gang entered the house by cutting off a padlock.
Inside the house, the robbers confronted Gerald Muteke, 37, who handed over $18,000, his pistol, and two Samsung phones. 
They then opened the bedroom of Vimbai Muteke, 43, who gave them $1,100, her mobile phone, and the keys to a safe containing $55,000.
A neighbour, alerted to the raid, fired two shots from a distance, forcing the robbers to flee. Police later recovered an iron bar left behind by the gang, which will be tested for fingerprints.

20 Armed Men Rob Wicknell Chivayo’s In-Laws, Fleeing With US$75,000

A police officer stationed at Hillside Police Station in Bulawayo has reportedly confessed to the fatal shooting of Detective Constable Cassandra Hove on 6 March 2025.
The suspect, identified as Constable Muradzikwa, is currently in custody at Donnington Police Station.
<a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/cop-confesses-to-killing-bulawayo-detective/">The Herald</a> cited police sources saying Muradzikwa admitted to the shooting. He said he does not require legal representation. Muradzikwa was scheduled to appear in court on the morning of Tuesday, 18 March.
According to the official narrative, Hove was fatally wounded during an exchange of fire with robbery suspects at around 8:40 PM. 
She was reportedly rushed to a nearby private clinic after sustaining gunshot wounds to her upper body, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
However, her family has expressed their dissatisfaction with the police’s account, demanding transparency regarding the officers involved in the Pumula South raid.
They are also seeking answers about who authorised her post-mortem, revealing that someone other than her next of kin had signed the documents at the hospital.
The family has vowed to pursue justice, saying they cannot accept the current version of events and will continue to seek the truth until those responsible for her death are held accountable.
Detective Hove’s death is made all the more tragic by the fact that she was only 37 and a mother of four, with a promising future ahead of her. Just recently, she had secured a scholarship to study forensic investigations in Russia.
Hove was also a dedicated member of Team Lozikeyi, an elite all-female unit created to address complex criminal cases, including armed robberies and serial crimes, in Bulawayo.
The unit, named in honour of Queen Lozikeyi Dlodlo, a key figure in the 1896 Ndebele uprising, gained recognition for its exceptional work and was composed of highly skilled female officers who underwent rigorous training.

Police Officer Confesses To Killing Detective Constable Cassandra Hove

A 24-year-old man named Milton Tsanzirai Mukamba has been sentenced to 23 years in prison after he attacked and killed his wife, Rutendo Kapfudzaruwa, for using US$40 without his consent.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident happened on June 4, 2024, at Farm 19 in Tanda, Mayo.
Mukamba used several weapons to assault Kapfudzaruwa all over the body intending to kill her. The NPA said:

The accused and the now-deceased were in a customary marriage. On the 4th of June 2024, at around 10 PM, the accused and the now deceased had a misunderstanding over US$40 which the now deceased had used without the accused’s consent.
The accused assaulted the now-deceased with various weapons. The assault did not stop until the now-deceased died that same night.
The matter was reported to the police who attended the scene and found the accused standing with fellow villagers crying that he had killed his wife.

Mukamba was tried and found guilty of causing the death of his wife, Rutendo Kapfudzaruwa, and was sentenced to 23 years imprisonment.

Man Murders His Wife For Spending US$40 Without His Consent

Blessed Mhlanga, a senior Zimbabwean journalist accused of transmitting data messages to incite violence, has now spent over 20 days in detention, with a decision on his bid for freedom still pending at the High Court, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) said in an update on 17 March 2025.
The 44-year-old Mhlanga, represented by ZLHR’s Chris Mhike, has been in both police and prison detention since his arrest on 24 February 2025.
He faces charges of unlawfully recording a video of Blessed Runesu Geza, allegedly sharing it with the public through YouTube and Heart and Soul Broadcasting Services (HSTV), with the intent to incite violence.
On 7 March 2025, Mhike filed an appeal at the High Court challenging Harare Magistrate Farai Gwitima’s decision to deny Mhlanga bail.
In the appeal, Mhike argued that Magistrate Gwitima made an error in his judgment on 28 February 2025 by denying bail, as there were no compelling reasons to justify Mhlanga’s continued detention.
On 10 March 2025, High Court Judge Justice Gibson Mandaza began hearing the bail appeal. During the proceedings, Fungai Nyahunzvi, a law officer from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), made a surprising request to refer Mhlanga’s case to the High Court’s Anti-Corruption Court (ACC) instead of the regular Bail Court. Nyahunzvi also sought a postponement of the case pending this referral.
Nyahunzvi argued that Mhlanga’s case was linked to an ACC case at the Harare Magistrates Court, and therefore the bail appeal should be handled by the ACC Division of the High Court.
However, Mhike opposed the application, asserting that there was no corruption-related element in the charge Mhlanga was facing.
In his ruling, Justice Mandaza dismissed Nyahunzvi’s request, confirming that the ordinary Bail Court was competent to hear Mhlanga’s bail appeal.
The judge then postponed the hearing of the bail appeal to 12 March 2025 to allow the NPA to respond to Mhlanga’s request for additional information, including the electronic and video evidence the prosecution claims incriminate him.
On 12 March 2025, Justice Mandaza again postponed the hearing, deciding to make a determination on Mhlanga’s request for more information before proceeding with the bail appeal.
On 17 March 2025, Justice Mandaza resumed hearing the appeal, initially ruling that the High Court would not view the video at the centre of the case, as it was not part of the record from the Harare Magistrates Court. He said that the court would only consider the proceedings from the lower court.
Mhike then presented arguments in favour of Mhlanga’s bail, asking the High Court to release the journalist.
Nyahunzvi opposed the appeal, insisting that Mhlanga should remain in prison and face trial from behind bars.
Justice Mandaza reserved his judgment on the matter, saying he would inform all concerned parties when his decision would be ready.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), on the early morning of March 4, 2025, Nyathi broke into a woman’s bedroom. Said the NPA:

The victim had retired to bed at her home around 9:00 PM on March 3, 2025, ensuring all windows and doors were locked.
The offender gained entry to her bedroom at approximately 1:40 AM by opening a window, placing a brick underneath it, and climbing through. He entered the room naked. The woman was awakened as the man was attempting to pull down her shorts.
The man apologized and identified himself, professing his love for her. The victim, while pretending to be calm, turned on a light and took a picture of the man. 
He attempted to escape through the window, but she prevented him. He eventually fled through the window after she alerted her mother. The victim then made a police report.

Nyathi was convicted and jailed for 18 months by a Hwange magistrate who found him guilty of aggravated unlawful entry and indecent assault.

A 24-year-old man named Marshal Comfort Nyathi broke into a woman's bedroom while she was sleeping. He entered naked and tried to pull down her shorts. The woman woke up, took a picture of him, and called her mother and the police. Nyathi was sentenced to 18 months in jail for his actions. He apologized and said he loved the woman, but that didn't excuse his behavior. The court found him guilty of breaking into the woman's bedroom and indecently assaulting her.

Naked Hwange Man (24) Breaks Into Sleeping Woman's Bedroom, Jailed 18 Months

High Court judge Justice Gibson Mandaza is expected to rule on Monday, 17 March, regarding the request made by AMH senior journalist Blessed Mhlanga for electronic evidence crucial to his bail application.
Last week, Justice Mahachi paused the proceedings to consider Mhlanga’s request for additional information, including electronic and video evidence.
Prosecutors claim that this evidence links Mhlanga to the alleged crime of transmitting data messages that incite violence, as defined in Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification &amp; Reform) Act.
Mhlanga, 44, who is represented by Chris Mhike from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), has been in detention for 21 days following his arrest on 24 February 2025.
Police accused the senior journalist of unlawfully recording a video of Blessed Runesu Geza and sharing it with the public.
The video was allegedly broadcast on YouTube, a social media platform, and on Heart &amp; Soul Broadcasting Services (HSTV), a digital content provider, to incite people to commit unspecified acts of violence.

A judge will decide whether Blessed Mhlanga can use electronic evidence in his bail request. Prosecutors say the evidence shows Mhlanga committed a crime by sharing videos that encouraged violence. Mhlanga has been in jail for 21 days and is represented by a lawyer from ZLHR. He is accused of recording a video and posting it online to urge people to be violent. The judge will make a decision on Mhlanga's bail request on Monday.

High Court To Rule On Request For Electronic Evidence In Mhlanga’s Bail Application

A motorist was robbed of US$14,100 in cash by three armed assailants on Friday, 14 March, along GMB Road near the Mbizi location turn-off in Mvurwi.
According to a statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the suspects were travelling in a black Toyota Probox, while the victim was in a Honda Fit Hybrid. 
The suspects reportedly smashed the victim’s vehicle before seizing a handbag that contained the cash and other valuables. Police said:

The ZRP is investigating a case of robbery which occurred in Mvurwi on 14/03/25. Three suspects who were travelling in a black Toyota Probox vehicle, intercepted the complainant who was travelling in a Honda Fit Hybrid vehicle along GMB Road near Mbizi location Turn-off, Mvurwi. 
The suspects smashed the complainant’s vehicle before taking a handbag which contained US$14 100.00 cash, Ecocash Debit Card and Innbucks Visa card.

In a related incident, police in Mutare have arrested Munyararadzi Madzure (39) and two juveniles (16) in connection with a theft case that occurred in Chikanga, Mutare, also on Friday.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the suspects allegedly stole US$25,000 from the complainant and used the stolen money to purchase a Honda Fit vehicle and three iPhones. The vehicle and cell phones have since been recovered.
There has been a surge in armed robbery cases across the country in recent years, driven by the growing preference of individuals and businesses to store large sums of cash outside the banking system. This trend has made them prime targets for criminals.
In some instances, these robberies have been linked to insider collusion, where security personnel or bank officials leak information about cash movements to criminals.

A person driving their car was robbed of $14,100 cash by three armed robbers on 14th March. The robbers were in a black car and smashed the victim's car before taking the money. The police are investigating. There have been more robberies lately because people keep a lot of cash outside of banks, making them easy targets. Sometimes, the robberies are helped by people on the inside giving information to the robbers. If anyone knows anything, they should tell the police.

Motorist Robbed Of US$14,000 In Brazen Smash And Grab Incident

The High Court has dismissed an application by Green Rebirth Trust, led by Nadia Vongai Mabvirakare, seeking an order to bar Batsirai Matiza from interfering with an ongoing carbon credit tree-planting project at Chemapango Secondary School in Murewa. The project aims to cultivate over one million fruit trees.
Matiza, a senior ZANU PF politician, had reportedly invested more than US$20,000 into the project after Mabvirakure approached him for assistance.
However, as the project expanded, Matiza allegedly attempted to take control, leading Mabvirakure to file the application in a bid to protect her initiative.
On March 12, Justice Happias Zhou of the Harare High Court dismissed the application in a brief ruling, with a full judgment still to be released. Reads Zhou’s order:

Matiza, who is ZANU PF secretary for environment, was cited as a respondent together with one Tichabaiwa Gwadu and Familia Muvhimwa.
In court papers, Mabvirakare had alleged that between September and November 2024, she received donations from several benefactors, including Matiza towards the tree nursery project.
She further claimed that on February 27, 2025, the respondents acting in concert went to her farm and forcibly took control of the same effectively dispossessing her. Said Mabvirakare:

Applicant has further learnt that the respondents are holding themselves out as the owners of the project and are attempting to sell off the project’s nursery stock to a third party without the applicant’s consent or participation.
Respondents have barred the applicant from accessing its farming location and from continuing its operations thereat, the applicant is fearful that the respondents will sell off its nursery stock and make off with proceeds to the applicant’s detriment.
Applicant seeks an order restoring its full and undisturbed possession of the farming location as well as an interdict barring the respondent from entering the mining location and from marketing, removing, or otherwise dealing with the nursery stock at said location pending the return date.

She said she would suffer irreparable harm if the court does not intervene urgently, asserting that the respondents are poised to dispose of the nursery stock on her farm, effectively excluding her from the project.
Mabvirakare was reportedly abducted in Chitungwiza on March 5, 2025, and was later found in a state of shock and trauma in Dangamvura, Mutare, on March 10, 2025.
She was subsequently taken to a private hospital in Harare to receive treatment for both physical and psychological injuries.
Rights activist and Green Rebirth Trust board member Abigail Mupambi linked the alleged abduction to the ongoing Chemapango tree-planting project.

Mazowe North MP Tsungai Makumbe (ZANU PF) has been acquitted of allegations that he raped his ex-wife at gunpoint.
The accusations, which surfaced last year, included claims that the incident resulted in pregnancy and that Makumbe infected the complainant with STIs and HIV.
Harare magistrate Clever Tsikwa dismissed the case, citing insufficient evidence presented by the State to substantiate the claims.
The prosecution alleged that the incident occurred in November 2023, both in Makumbe’s car and at the entrance of the complainant’s residence in Mt Pleasant.
According to the State, Makumbe arrived at her residence around 10 PM, called her outside, and she complied. Said the prosecutor:

The accused person proposed love to the complainant, but the complainant refused.
The accused person pulled out a greyish pistol and placed it on the dashboard. He got out of the car from the driver seat and proceeded to the passenger seat where the complainant was seated and opened the passenger door where the complainant was seated and started to demand sex from the complainant.
The accused person suddenly pulled the complainant’s left leg down and twisted it and that led the complainant to stand on the ground.

It was further alleged that Makumbe coerced the complainant into bending over before raping her without protection. The incident reportedly went unreported at the time.
Following the alleged assault, Makumbe is said to have handed the complainant US$20 to purchase morning-after pills to prevent pregnancy.
The court was told that the complainant later sought medical treatment at Parirenyatwa Hospital, where she tested HIV positive and discovered she was pregnant.

Mazowe North MP Tsungai Makumbe was accused of raping his ex-wife, but he has been cleared of the charges because there wasn't enough evidence. The incident was said to have happened in 2023 when Makumbe arrived at his ex-wife's house and forced her to have sex with him at gunpoint. The ex-wife later tested positive for HIV and found out she was pregnant. Makumbe gave her money for morning-after pills after the incident. The court decided there wasn't enough proof to show that the rape actually happened.

A Chiredzi farm worker tragically died on Monday after being struck in the forehead with a stone by a man he had confronted about “poaching” the farm’s Wi-Fi intended for employees.
The assailant, 22-year-old Moment Mavasa from Jackson Village, Chief Tshovani, Chiredzi, has been arrested and charged with the murder of 19-year-old Ask Ndhlovu from Nhambekwa Village, Siyabora area, Binga.
According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson for Masvingo Province Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, the incident occurred at Farm 3 in Hippo Valley.
On the day of the attack, Ndhlovu and 24-year-old Peter Mutapati were working on the farm when Mavasa and his accomplice, 22-year-old Tafadzwa Mafuta, arrived to illegally access the Wi-Fi designated for farm employees.
Ndhlovu and Mutapati reportedly asked the duo to stop using the Wi-Fi and leave the premises.
A heated argument ensued, and Mavasa allegedly threw a stone at Ndhlovu, hitting him in the forehead. 
Ndhlovu suffered a deep wound and began bleeding heavily before losing consciousness. Mavasa and Mafuta fled the scene.
Mutapati immediately informed the farm’s employer, Tawedzerwa Muzvidziwa, and they rushed Ndhlovu to Chiredzi General Hospital.
Sadly, Ndhlovu succumbed to his injuries the following day. Mavasa was later arrested for murder.

Chiredzi Farm Worker Killed By Wi-Fi "Poachers"

Matrix Disciplinary and Training Centre directors, Tafadzwa Chidawa and Clara Manyapera, appeared before Harare Magistrate Rufaro Panavanhu on Friday, 14 March, facing charges of operating a voluntary organisation without a licence and impersonating child protection officers.
Chidawa (also known as Detective Kedha) and Manyapera were granted bail of US$300 each and were instructed to return to court for routine remand on April 22.
According to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Chidawa and Manyapera established Matrix Disciplinary and Training Camp between December 2024 and the present without the necessary registration and licensing required by the Private Voluntary Organizations Act. The NPA said:

Tafadzwa Chidawa (36) and Clara Manyepera (38) have been arrested and brought before the Harare Magistrates Court following allegations of operating an illegal “Matrix Disciplinary and Training Camp” in New Marlborough, Harare. 
The duo faces charges relating to the operation of an unregistered private voluntary organization and the impersonation of child protection officers.
The state alleges that the two established and operated the camp without the necessary registration and licensing required by the Private Voluntary Organizations Act. 
The camp, located at Number 2165 Tokwane Close, reportedly aimed to “rehabilitate” children with delinquency issues, and authorities claim that the two admitted youths into the camp from December 6, 2023, onwards.
Furthermore, the state alleges that, during the camp’s operation, the duo impersonated child protection officers. 
This involved offering services legally reserved for qualified individuals, including measures for observing and correcting behaviors contributing to delinquency, and providing counseling, supervision, and control.
The accused acted unlawfully, thereby breaking the Children’s Act. The State is in possession of video footage of the pair conducting training sessions. 
Chidawa and Manyepera appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court for their initial remand, and the investigation is ongoing. The two were remanded to 20 April on US$300 bail each.

Chidawa, a former police officer, was recently acquitted of theft charges by Chief Magistrate Vongai Guwuriro at the Harare Magistrates’ Court.
Chidawa and his co-accused—Paradza Passmore Matubu, Perseverance Chisango, Malvern Mutanda, and Francis Takura—had been accused of stealing US$20 000 from a Harare woman, Melody Matanhire.
However, the magistrate struggled to believe the allegations against Chidawa and his associates after the complainant admitted to fabricating parts of her story.

Detective Kedha, also known as Tafadzwa Chidawa, and Clara Manyapera were arrested for running an unlicensed camp for troubled children. They pretended to be child protection officers. The camp aimed to help children with behavior issues. The state says they broke the law by offering services meant for qualified people. They were granted bail but have to go back to court in April. Before this, Detective Kedha was accused of theft, but the case fell apart because the person accusing him admitted to lying.

Detective Kedha Arrested Again, Faces Fresh Charges

Chris Mhike, the lawyer representing Heart &amp; Soul TV senior journalist Blessed Mhlanga, on Friday, 14 March, raised concerns about the State’s classification of Mhlanga’s docket as a security risk.
Mhike questioned the rationale behind the designation, to which Magistrate Isheanesu Matova responded that it was for administrative purposes only.
Mhike also informed the court that Mhlanga is a student with an important examination scheduled for March 19.
He requested that the court allow Mhlanga to sit for the exam under the supervision of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service.
However, Magistrate Matova stated that the defence was seeking something beyond his authority. <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200039520/lawyer-protests-classification-of-blessed-mhlanga-docket-as-security-risk">Said Matova</a>:

I can only operate within the four corners of statutes. That is beyond our reach.

Mhike, however, argued that the court had the authority to grant the application allowing Mhlanga to sit for his examination.
The matter was subsequently remanded to April 4.
Award-winning journalist Hopewell Chin’ono suggested that Mhlanga’s arrest was part of a broader strategy by State institutions to silence journalists and hinder their ability to perform their duties. Said Chin’ono:

A Zimbabwean journalist and political prisoner, Blessed Mhlanga will spend another weekend in jail for a crime he did not commit.
His only crime is interviewing Jealousy Mawarire, who exposed a corrupt scandal to steal the People’s Own Savings Bank (POSB) linked to the President on Mhlanga’s television programme.
The use of state institutions to silence journalists from doing their work is not only oppressive but kleptocratic.
The fact that Mhlanga has been imprisoned for close to three weeks for merely conducting an interview with a whistleblower exposes the extent to which state institutions have been weaponised to silence dissent and investigative journalism by ZANUPF and Mnangagwa.

A journalist named Blessed Mhlanga was denied permission to take an important exam in prison. His lawyer tried to argue that he should be allowed to take the test with supervision. Magistrate Denies Mhlanga’s Request To Sit Exam Under Prison Supervision

Ishmael Maukazuva, the Councillor for Ward 12 in Chikomba West Constituency, has been released after spending two days in detention.
He was arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers and charged with undermining the authority of or insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Maukazuva, who was represented by Paida Saurombe from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), was taken into custody on Wednesday. 
The arrest followed accusations that he had forwarded a TikTok video clip to the Chivhu Residents and Ratepayers Association WhatsApp group.
The video, which allegedly showed a woman criticising President Mnangagwa for mismanaging the economy, included derogatory comments about the president and the ruling ZANU PF party.
However, on Friday, March 14, 2025, prosecutors from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) withdrew the charges against Maukazuva.
The charges were withdrawn on the basis that they (prosecutors) had not first obtained a certificate to prosecute from the Prosecutor-General, authorising them to pursue legal action against the opposition political party Councillor.
It had been alleged that Maukazuva had unlawfully circulated the TikTok video, which featured disparaging remarks about President Mnangagwa.
The video included an anonymous woman accusing the president of causing “misfortunes” for Zimbabweans and urging him to step down in favour of a “younger” leader.
