29-Year-Old Stole $3 Million, Bought Beer, Gets Arrested
A 29-year-old Harare man was arrested for stealing ZWL $3 million dollars, ZWL$160 thousand of which he used to buy beer.
It is alleged that Tinotenda Chinyemba allegedly cloned a POSB debit card and purchased beer worth ZWL$160 thousand, and made ten other transactions of ZWL$10 thousand each.
The States told the court that on May 15 this year, Chinyemba in the company of one Arthur Moyo – who is at large – “cloned” a POSB debit card.
On May 28 between 3 PM and 8 PM, the 29-year-old and his companion purchased beer worth Z$160 000 at Pochiet Complex in Zengeza 2, Chitungwiza, and made 10 transactions of Z$10 000 RTGS.
They spent Z$260 000 in total.

It is further alleged that on June 11, police detectives received information that the accused used a cloned card and made a transaction of ZWL$30 thousand at an Agribank POS machine intending to get United States dollars.
On the same date at around 12 PM, detectives intercepted Chinyemba’s vehicle, but Moyo jumped off and outpaced the police officers.
Chinyemba was arrested and taken to Zengeza Police Station where he was interviewed. A search of his vehicle turned up a POSB bank card.
Prosecutors alleged that Chinyemba attempted to break the card during his arrest. He was also found with an ITEL phone which he broke during his arrest.
ZWL$12 870 was recovered out of the ZWL$3 million that was stolen.
Chinyemba was remanded in custody pending bail ruling when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi facing charges of unauthorized possession and use of debit cards.
