Nyamhunga Clinic Shut Down After COVID-19 Outbreak
Nyamhunga Clinic in Kariba was on Monday temporarily closed to facilitate fumigation after a healthcare worker tested positive for coronavirus.
11 new cases were recorded on Sunday in Kariba District, which has been placed under localised lockdown after an upsurge in cases.
Kariba acting town clerk Godfrey Magijani said the clinic was only attending to emergency cases. He said:
During this period, the clinic will be attending to emergency cases only. Meanwhile, normal operations had not resumed by late afternoon.
Last week the government announced a two-week localised lockdown for Hurungwe and Kariba districts to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Announcing the measures on Friday night, the chief Director Curative Services in the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Dr Maxwell Hove the two districts had become hotspots and the lockdown will be reviewed after two weeks.
Kariba currently has 83 active cases and a total of 330 cases since the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020.
