Tsenengamu Denied Bail, Judge Cites His Safety
Magistrate Nduna on Tuesday denied Godfrey Tsenengamu bail saying the fact that he surrendered himself to police after some unidentified people stalked him shows that he was safe in prison than outside.
The magistrate also said the former ZANU PF youth league’s political commissar had spent three months evading police, therefore, he is not a good candidate for bail.
Tsenengamu surrendered himself to the police Friday last week and was arrested for inciting public violence after he and many others encouraged the masses to participate in foiled 31 July anti-corruption protests.
The protests were being organised by Jacob Ngarivhume of opposition Transform Zimbabwe who was also arrested and detained before he was eventually released on bail.
Tsenengamu told the police during interrogations that strange men were following his family and harassing them demanding to know his whereabouts until he handed himself over to police last Friday.
The state used Tsenengamu’s report to argue that it was not safe for him to be outside the prison walls and magistrate Nduna agreed.
