COVID-19: Death Threats Issued To Telecoms Engineers Believed To Be Working On 5G, Twitter Reacts
Telecommunications engineers have received death threats from people believing that they are working on the Fifth Generation network 5G following the conspiracy theory which links the emergence of the deadly coronavirus to 5G.
Andy Kerr, Deputy General Secretary of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) which represents nearly 40,000 telecoms engineers in the United Kingdom said:
We’ve actually had cases where people have been threatened with being stabbed, threatened with physical violence and in some cases actually threatened with murder.
FeedbackThe theory which claims that 5G technology helps transmit coronavirus but scientists have since dismissed the theory saying the idea of a connection between COVID-19 and 5G is “complete rubbish” and biologically impossible.
Meanwhile, Twitter has updated its coronavirus guidelines, stating that it will remove unverified claims that cause “widespread panic” or encourage people to act on conspiracy theories after phone masts across the U.K. were set alight following bogus claims about 5G.
The theory which started around January has ironically been endorsed by prominent political, religious and business people across the world.
