Former Minister Banned From Practising Law

Former Deputy Minister for Youth Affairs, Tongai Matutu has been deregistered by the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) and thus, can no longer practise law. Matutu was a junior minister in the all-inclusive government between 2009 to 2013.

In its latest report, the Law Society indicated that eight lawyers have been deregistered for various misdemeanours.

The development was confirmed to ZTN by LSZ president Thandaza Masiye Moyo;

Nine lawyers have been deregistered between August 2018 to date, and we have about 14 matters that are pending before the Legal Practitioners Tribunal.

But what you would understand is that not all these 14 lawyers will necessarily plead to these matters that are pending.

Other lawyers to have been deregistered include Amon Tendai Toto who was found guilty of misappropriating trust funds and failing to maintain proper books of accounts and Simbarashe Tawona who was found guilty of misappropriating trust funds.

Matutu was a junior minister (from the MDC then led by Morgan Tsvangirai) in the all-inclusive government from 2009 to 2013.
