ZACC Arrests 10 ZIMRA Officers For Smuggling Cars In The Country
The Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission has reportedly arrested 10 Beitbridge Border post stationed ZiMRA officers and agents for smuggling cars into Zimbabwe the Chronicle reports.
The arrests were made after ZACC and ZImra in a joint operation launched an operation against smuggling vehicles which are believed to be in access of 2400.
ZACC ‘s John Makamure confirmed the arrests and said:
Yes, we have arrested 10 Zimra officials who were allegedly involved in the smuggling of vehicles and they will soon appear in court. The operation targeting to recover smuggled vehicles is an ongoing exercise and we will not rest until all who are involved are brought to book.
ZACC and Zimra have since started to recover some of the vehicles which entered in the country illegally. We expect to recover more. The nation has lost thousands (of dollars) in revenue in this scam and we need to recover that money.
The operation has managed to recover 102 cars so far.
