Harare Hit By An Outbreak Of Diarrhoea
There has been a spike in recorded cases of diarrhoea in Harare in the past few weeks with fears that another cholera outbreak may occur.
Over 50 cases of diarrhoea were recorded in Glen View, Glen Norah and Budiriro high-density suburbs.
Speaking to The Herald, Harare City Council’s health services director Dr Prosper Chonzi said:
From last week, we have noticed that there are a number of diarrhoeal cases presented in our clinics, with Budiriro, Glen View and Glen Norah being the worst affected.
We have been examining stools from the patients and we have not yet confirmed whether it is cholera or typhoid; we just believe that it could just be infectious diarrhoea.
Meanwhile, the Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) said bemoaned the city council’s failure to provide adequate services in the areas that are prone to water-borne disease outbreaks.
