EcoCash has announced that Zimswitch transactions are intermittent adding that technicians were working diligently to restore normal service as soon as possible.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, the mobile money transfer platform said all other EcoCash services, including banking services, send money, airtime, merchant and <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">bill payments</a>, and <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">domestic money transfer services</a> (cash in, cash out, send money, and airtime) are functioning normally. Reads the statement:

Zimswitch is a Zimbabwean company that provides <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">financial switching</a> and electronic payment processing services. It connects different banks and financial institutions, allowing them to exchange financial transactions with their customers. Zimswitch provides a platform for various <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">electronic payment systems</a>, including <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">ATMs</a>, point-of-sale (POS) devices, <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">mobile banking</a>, and Internet banking.
When a customer uses their debit or credit card at an <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">ATM</a> or <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">POS device</a>, for example, the transaction is processed through the Zimswitch network. The transaction is first sent to the customer’s bank, which then sends it to Zimswitch. This process ensures quick and seamless transfer of funds between different financial institutions in <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Zimbabwe</a>.

EcoCash Reports Intermittent Zimswitch Transactions, Technicians Working To Restore Service

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/POSB">People’s Own Savings Bank (POSB)</a> in partnership with Mastercard has unveiled new prepaid and debit cards that will enable customers to make seamless transactions in both domestic and international markets. 
The Mastercard debit card is now the default card that POSB account holders can use to transact in two currencies – the United States Dollar (USD) and the Zimbabwe Dollar (ZWL$).
The prepaid Mastercard card is intended for customers seeking local and international foreign payment solutions, whether they hold a POSB account or not. 
All that is required is a national identity card and proof of residence to sign up for the prepaid Mastercard, deposit any amount in USD, and start transacting on the local or international markets.
POSB’s chief executive officer, Mr Garainashe Changunda said that the introduction of Mastercard debit and prepaid cards was in line with the bank’s vision to provide simple, responsive, innovative, and inclusive financial solutions. Changunda said:

As a people’s bank, we are cognisant of our customers’ ever-changing needs. We strive to provide them with relevant solutions. From the feedback we received, there was a need for payment solutions that allow them to fully participate in global commerce to enhance their economic opportunities.
In response to the feedback, we partnered with Mastercard and to offer two cards. The POSB Mastercard debit card, which is linked to the POSB local (ZWL) and United States Dollars (USD) accounts to give seamless transactions in both currencies using the same card. To make payment, one can easily switch from local currency to foreign currency or vice versa, depending on which currency they want to use for that specific payment.
In line with the bank’s mandate to champion financial inclusion, one of the National Development Strategy 1(NDS1) objectives, we are further offering an easy-to-sign-up prepaid Mastercard for non-account holders who also wish to transact in USD currency, whether locally or internationally.

Customers can use prepaid or debit Mastercard cards on local points of sale (POS) machines and ATMs. They can withdraw cash, pay forex bills such as DSTV and Netflix, tuition, and purchase goods and services for their entrepreneurial projects on e-commerce platforms with ease.
Zimswitch, a leading switching and payments company, has in collaboration with Mastercard enabled POSB account holders to transact by using their co-badged prepaid and debit Mastercard cards.
The cards come with advanced security features, including a PIN and EMV chip that allows contactless payment (Tap and Go) to ensure that customers transact safely and securely in the virtual environment.
Both the debit and prepaid cards are also equipped with a full complement of digital and easy-to-sign-up features such as card activation or deactivation, PIN reset, balance inquiry, mini-statement, transaction history, full-statement request and block or unblock lost/stolen card.
Additionally, a customer support services team has been put in place to resolve customers’ queries at the earliest possible time should they arise.

POSB Launches Co-badged Debit And Prepaid Mastercard Cards

The Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) has warned that ZimSwitch’s planned system maintenance may affect the processing of transactions. In a notice seen by Pindula News, ZINARA said the maintenance is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 16 November 2022.

Transactions May Be Affected By ZIMSWITCH's Maintenance Exercise - ZINARA

Zimswitch has announced new limits for person-to-person transactions with effect from today, 10 October 2022.
The new limit is now ZW$150 000 per transaction up from ZW$100 000 with the monthly limit now set at ZW$600 000. A statement issued by Zimswitch Statement reads:

ZimSwitch, the only National Electronic Funds Switch and clearing house for Zimbabwe (designated by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe) has announced a ZIPIT limit review. In a notice to customers seen by Pindula News, Zimswitch said the review is with effect from the 1st of August 2022. Reads the notice:

ZimSwitch has revealed why the Zimswitch Instant Payment Interchange Technology (ZIPIT) had gone offline. In an interview with The Herald, ZimSwitch deputy general manager Mr Zabron Chilakalaka refuted claims that the service has been suspended or scrapped.
Said Chilakalaka:
<blockquote>It has not been suspended or scrapped, from our end, ZIPIT is just undergoing a system upgrade. You will realise that before end of day today (yesterday) selected banks will be back up and running but by tomorrow (today) everything will be sorted.</blockquote>

ZimSwitch explains why ZIPIT went offline

National electronic funds switch, ZimSwitch has reported that volumes of electronic transactions increased from 900 000 per month to 16 million per month. An increase of 1600 percent in the first 6 months of the year. This has been attributed to the shortage of cash in the economy.  Most of the transactions are occurring on ZIPIT, which is now struggling with the volumes.
ZimSwitch chief executive officer, Cyril Nyatsanza, said:
<blockquote>Around April last year we were doing 900 000 transactions per month and we are now doing 16 million per month. But as you can see, our volumes have gone up so it has been a very steep trajectory for us as a sevice provider.
Because of its real time aspect, industry and everyone else have started using it for business payments and we are saying it wqas not meant for business payments. Because of that, it lacks some details that a business or trade transaction would require and because of that we have had to upgrade to what we call ZIPIT 2.</blockquote>
