Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) employees have appealed to the government to pay half of their salaries in foreign currency as most basic services such as rentals are now pegged in USD.
ZBC workers committee chairperson Maushe Mutetepi on Thursday, 02 January appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Information, Media and Broadcasting Services.
He told Parliamentarians that the minimum wage at ZBC was $188 000.
Mutetepi also said that ZBC has now become a training ground for other media houses as it is losing experienced workers at an alarming rate. He said:

Staff retention and understaffing are serious issues. Last year, 50 employees left ZBC. From our engineering department, eight left.
Some are on exit as we speak and the major reason is remuneration. They are just using their leave days.
When you look at what others are getting elsewhere and across the border, you will see that mine is just a title with empty pockets.
It’s a title to say he is an engineer at ZBC, but what do you have to show for that?
With the proliferation of broadcasting houses, ZBC is just being used as a training ground.

ZBC Workers Demand USD Salaries And Farmland

Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) CEO, Patrick Mavhura assured the nation and the international community that the national broadcaster has the technical capacity to broadcast the Constitutional Court proceedings live starting tomorrow.
Mavhura said ZBC is also ready to provide feed to other local and international broadcasters who wish to subscribe with the state broadcaster. Said Mavhura:
<blockquote>We are ready and I can categorically state that we have the technical capacity to broadcast live the Constitutional Court proceedings. We have been doing this, we have the state of the art high definition equipment which can provide feed to other broadcasters. I also want to assure other stations that we will provide telecasting that is direct feed without ZBC’s comments, already we have started broadcasting live our news and current affairs from the Constitutional Court so we are ready.</blockquote>
