ZANU PF has reportedly indefinitely postponed its planned “Thank You” rallies across Zimbabwe due to internal friction.
The Thank You rallies are being viewed as part of an alleged agenda to push President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s bid for a third term in office.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200025945/zanu-pf-shelves-thank-you-rallies">NewsDay</a> reported party sources as saying that the postponement of the “Thank You” rallies was due to increasing tensions between rival factions competing for influence and control within the party. Said a source:

It’s not yet clear why they postponed. They gave a notice that we are postponing the rallies. There has been too much factionalism within the party.
It’s chaotic. The party youths, however, have been pushing for the amendment of the Constitution to allow Mnangagwa to rule for more than two terms in another move seen as targeted at Chiwenga.

Another source was reported as saying financial challenges facing the party are the reason for the postponement of the interfaces. Said the source:

The party does not have money for the rallies. Its coffers are empty. Those who are fighting can halt their differences and prepare for the rallies for the sake of President Mnangagwa. So, I don’t think that’s the reason why the rallies were postponed. You can check with Bimha.

Meanwhile, ZANU PF treasurer-general Patrick Chinamasa is allegedly pushing for the lifting of the suspension of Manicaland women’s league leader Happiness Nyakuedzwa.
Nyakuedzwa was suspended by the politburo in February this year for alleged misconduct.
Chinamasa reportedly fought for Nyakuedzwa’s reinstatement during the last two politburo meetings. 
Nyakuedzwa and her husband, ZANU PF Manicaland provincial political commissar Albert Nyakuedzwa, are said to be allies of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga who reportedly leads one of the party’s two main factions.
In Matabeleland North Province, ZANU PF secretary-general Obert Mpofu is allegedly at loggerheads with Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Richard Moyo.
Moyo is accused of presiding over several failed and unfulfilled projects in the province since he was appointed minister in 2017.
In Mashonaland West, some politburo members are allegedly plotting against provincial chairperson Mary Mliswa-Chikoka who is accused of ignoring the national leadership.
ZANU PF director of Information Farai Marapira told NewsDay that factionalism reports in the ruling party are being made up by some people. Said Marapira:

First and foremost there is no factionalism in ZANU PF. The leadership is very solid and united. Any talk of factionalism is just imaginary in the eyes of people who have nothing better to do.
Our calendar has been busy with projects which move the country forward. This is why the Thank You rallies have been postponed.
They will be held, definitely, at the discretion and convenience of the party. The party will not be forced to do its programmes just to fulfil the interest of those who are outside.

ZANU PF is holding an extra-ordinary session of the Politburo this Monday, according to a notice issued by the party’s secretary for information and publicity Christopher Mutsvangwa.

ZANU PF Suspends "Thank You" Rallies Indefinitely

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly cancelled his inaugural post-2023 general elections thank-you rally, which had been planned for St Noah College in Bocha, Manicaland province on Saturday.
According to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200024915/ed-cancels-marange-trip-over-wayward-church-member">NewsDa</a>y, the rally and church visit were initially scheduled to coincide with the Passover feast.
NewsDay revealed that Mnangagwa decided to cancel the trip on Wednesday due to emerging reports that a church member, Nyasha Marange, had exploited his connections with church leader St. Nimrod.
Marange allegedly coerced affluent church members into contributing funds for the President’s visit.
Nyasha Marange, a member of ZANU PF, currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Mutare West Constituency. Said a NewsDay source:

His actions are tarnishing the image of the church, of which the high priest did not know what Nyasha Marange was doing, which is forcing church members to contribute towards the rally.

However, Marange denied the allegations saying their church does not force members to make contributions towards any programme. He said:
<blockquote>
We are a rich church. We do not need to go to anybody to beg for money, let alone force them to make contributions.
We have many projects as a church and even the government knows all our projects. We grow maize corn, we have dairy cows, we have beef cows, and we do fish farming.
Even GMB [Grain Marketing Board] knows that we always take our grains there.
In all honesty, I would be very happy to see someone who can come and say I forced them to make contributions. Why should I do that?
Our church is rich, we have plenty and we can even go around sharing with others, and even those claiming that we forced them to make contributions.

Mnangagwa is set to conduct “Thank You” rallies across Zimbabwe. These events allow him to address the public directly and highlight government initiatives.
Meanwhile, Marange recently stirred controversy by allegedly asserting his demand for complete control over the US$1.2 million allocated to the Chiadzwa Community Share Ownership Trust.
Additionally, he faced accusations of marginalizing fellow Members of Parliament from Mutare North and Mutare South—constituencies that were meant to benefit from these funds.

Mnangagwa Cancels "Thank You Rally" Set For Marange | Report

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Saturday described people who live in cities and towns as “sell-outs” for continuing to vote for opposition parties.
Mnangagwa made the remarks while addressing a ZANU PF “Thank You Rally” at Beaulieu Toronto Primary School in Mutasa South constituency. He said:

I have heard that some parts of Mutasa South are rural and urban. I know that in urban areas when we fought the liberation struggle that’s where most sell-outs ran to.
It honestly does not surprise me that those from urban areas don’t support the revolutionary movement because they are sell-outs.

ZANU PF candidate, Misheck Mugadza, defeated CCC’s Regai Tsunga in a by-election held on 26 March 2022.
The seat fell vacant after Tsunga was recalled by MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora.
The ruling party had failed to win Mutasa South since the formation of the opposition MDC in 1999.
Mnangagwa also criticised young people who support the opposition saying they are unpatriotic. He said:

This next generation should be taught to be patriotic about their country.
They should be taught that their freedom was brought through the liberation struggle.
They are the ones to whom we are going to leave the leadership of this country.

ED Castigates Urbans Dwellers, Calls Them "Sellouts"

ZANU PF will on Saturday use a National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) train to transport its supporters to a “Thank You Rally” in Mutasa South constituency.
The rally, which will be held at Beaulieu Primary School, will be addressed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
It comes after Misheck Mugadza of ZANU PF won the Mutasa South seat in the March 26 by-elections, defeating CCC candidate Regai Tsunga, who was recalled last year from Parliament by MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora.
In the past, ZANU PF has used school and the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) buses to ferry party supporters to its rallies.
Mugadza confirmed to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200001927/zanu-pf-commandeers-train-to-eds-rally">NewsDay</a> that ZANU PF supporters will be ferried to Mnangagwa’s rally on a passenger train from Rusape to Mutare. He said:

This is a celebration event and we want everyone to be there. We are not bussing people, but we want people to attend and eat with their President.
We are expecting over 10 000 ZANU PF supporters and friends of our President Mnangagwa to come.
There is a train that is going to ferry people from Makoni district to Mutare where they will connect to the venue using ZUPCO buses.
