A truck veered off the road and struck two boys who were playing in the yard at a house in Epworth, Harare on Saturday, 25 November.
Police said one of the boys, aged 11 died, while his colleague, aged 10, was injured in the incident.
The driver of the truck and three passengers who were on board abandoned the vehicle and fled from the scene. Police said:

Police in Harare are investigating a fatal hit-and-run road traffic accident in which a male juvenile (11) died whilst another male juvenile (10) was injured after being hit by a truck which had veered off the road along Garakara Road near Tafi Shops, Epworth on 25/11/23.
The victims were playing in the yard at a house along the road. The driver and three passengers who were on board abandoned the truck and fled from the scene.

In another hit-and-run incident, a 32-year-old man sustained leg injuries after he was hit by an unknown motorist driving a Mercedes Benz in Hatfield on Saturday. Police said:

Meanwhile, a man (32) sustained leg injuries after being hit by an unknown motorist driving a Mercedes Benz, registration number ACW 4920, along Airport Road near BYD Garage, Hatfield, Harare on 25/11/23. The motorist did not stop after the accident.

In Zimbabwe, the penalty for a hit-and-run offence is governed by the Road Traffic Act.
If a person is found guilty of a hit and run, they can face criminal charges, which may include fines and imprisonment depending on the severity of the incident, whether there were injuries or fatalities involved, and other relevant circumstances.

Truck Driver Abandons Vehicle And Flees After Knocking Down Two Boys In Epworth

A Bulawayo-bound tanker carrying 32.2 tonnes of sulphate was burnt to a shell after it caught fire near Beitbridge on Tuesday morning.
The officer commanding police in Beitbridge District, Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo said the incident occurred at around 5 am about 20km out of Beitbridge along the Beitbridge- Bulawayo Highway.
The vehicle was travelling from South Africa to Bulawayo.
It is alleged that the driver of the trucker, aged 39 years, narrowly escaped death after the truck caught fire while he was attending to a mechanical fault. Said Nyongo:

Our preliminary investigations indicate that the truck driver who is employed by Nello Logistics of South Africa was driving a Scania horse and towing two trailers from South Africa to Bulawayo.
When the driver got to the 293 km peg, he noticed that the rear right wheel of one of the trailers was binding.

He said the driver had stopped the vehicle to check on the fault when he discovered that the wheel had caught fire.

Bulawayo-bound Tanker Catches Fire

Three people were killed in a road traffic accident around 2.30 AM on Saturday along the Harare-Bulawayo Road, police have said.
According to a statement posted on the ZRP Twitter page, an Ashok Leyland Truck which was travelling towards Bulawayo with six passengers on board hit a trailer at the 382 km peg along Harare–Bulawayo Road.
Three people died, while three others were injured. The injured were ferried to Mpilo Central Hospital where they are admitted. Police said:

The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on 10/12/22 at around 0230 hours at the 382 km peg along Harare–Bulawayo Road, where three people died while three others were injured.
An Ashok Leyland Truck which was travelling towards Bulawayo with six passengers on board hit a trailer of a Haulage truck with no passengers on board, which was travelling in the opposite direction.
The bodies of the victims were taken to United Bulawayo Hospital for post-mortem while the injured are admitted at Mpilo Hospital.
