The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development in Zimbabwe has announced that there will be an official unveiling of the Masvingo-Glen Norah Loop and Mbudzi Interchange projects next week.
According to a statement obtained by Pindula News, the opening ceremony will be led by the Honourable Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Felix Tapiwa Mhona (MP), accompanied by other dignitaries. The event, set for September 16, 2024, at the Mbudzi Interchange Site Offices, will feature prayers, introductions, speeches, and a project tour.
The Mbudzi Interchange venture, initiated in 2022 with a completion deadline of July 31, 2024, has encountered setbacks, failing to meet its initial target. 
Authorities claim that the total cost of constructing the Mbudzi Interchange flyover amounts to US$88 million. This includes US$65 million allocated for the interchange structure and US$23 million for various project components such as detour roads, relocation expenses, royalties, surveys, and professional fees. They say the US$65 million figure was quantified by the internationally accredited firm DNMZ, based in South Africa.

The video shows violations of traffic laws and actions that endanger others. In a statement seen by Pindula News, the minister said the bus driver will be prosecuted, and the ministry will enforce laws to address negligence and recklessness. Read the message:

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has noted with great concern the video circulating on social media, which captures a near accident involving a cross-border bus belonging to Mzansi Express, a haulage truck carrying highly flammable gases and other motorists. This video clearly shows traffic law violations and actions that breach Sections 51, 52 and 53 of the Road Traffic All [Chapter 13:111 which prohibit driving without due care and attention or reasonable consideration for others, negligent or dangerous driving and reckless driving.
It is also saddening to note that during the period 15. — 26. December 2023 alone, 87 people died and 424 were injured because of road traffic accidents. The nation cannot afford to continue experiencing these incessant road fatalities caused by recklessness and negligence by Public Service Vehicle (PSV) drivers. Informed by the foregoing violations and verified videographic evidence, the Ministry will ensure that the driver of the cross-border bus is prosecuted. 1 have directed that the provisions of the law be implemented dutifully, consistently, and religiously with the view to tame this negligence and recklessness. My Ministry promulgated Statutory Instrument 118 of 2023 which made it mandatory for operators of PSVs to install speed limiting and monitoring devices. This will go a long way in regulating over-speeding by PSV drivers and protect commuters and other road users in line with targets contained in the National Development Strategy 1 (2021-2025) which seeks to reduce road accidents and fatalities by a 25% margin per annum.
Pursuant to this, I wish to reiterate and wam all Transport Operators, Associations, motorists, and members of the public that the Ministry will take stern measures provided by our laws against those who wantonly and blatantly violate road traffic rules and regulations. The safety and security of all road users cannot be taken for granted. We will not hesitate to suspend and cancel licenses of drivers and operators who violate traffic rules and regulations. We urge all road traffic law enforcement agencies to be on high alert to enforce the road traffic laws and ensure that non-compliant drivers and vehicles do not our roads.

Transport Minister Speaks On A Near Accident Involving Mzansi Express Bus, Fuel Truck

The Government says the Kariba Airport will be relocated to a new site to accommodate more aircraft and boost tourism in the town.
Speaking at the launch of the Fastjet flights in Kariba last week, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona said:

Relocating the airport to a new site will accommodate a wide range of aircraft and promote Kariba as a tourist destination.

Kariba Tourism and Business Indaba co-ordinator Cephas Shonhiwa said there was a need for the Government to repair the road linking Harare and Kariba which is now in a sorry state.

Kariba Airport Set To Be Relocated

Zimbabwe on Tuesday landed a seat on the 36-member International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Council during elections held at the 41st ICAO assembly in Montreal, Canada.
A Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development delegation led by Minister Felix Mhona is in Canada, where Zimbabwe was the SADC representative in the elections. The Ministry tweeted:

Zimbabwe Gets International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Council Seat

Five tollgates on the outskirts of cities and towns will be moved further out to ease the financial burden on motorists living in peri-urban areas.
Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Felix Mhona Friday said the tollgates set to be relocated are Skyline, Dema, Lion’s Den, Umguza and Shamva.
Those those that will be rehabilitated to standard levels are the Norton, Esigodini, Mushagashi, Mupfurudzi and Colleen Bawn tollgates.
He also said plans were underway to upgrade existing tollgates on major highways to ensure they can cope rapidly and easily with the growing volumes of traffic.
By next month, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/11/05/shamva-tollgate-to-be-relocated-minister-mhona/">the Shamva tollgate is set to be moved to the 40km peg along the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway.</a>
Minister Mhona, his Deputy Mike Madiro and officials from Zinara, the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR), Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ), Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VID) and the Central Mechanical Equipment Department (CMED) yesterday toured the Shamva tollgate. He said after the tour:

The main objective is to move these tollgates further out. When they were constructed, there were no communities that were nearby. But now more people have now constructed houses near them and hence there is need to move them out further.

He said many people were complaining about the location of the tollgates since they had to drive through them daily.
ZINARA chief executive officer Mr Nkosinathi Ncube said the Ministry of Transport will relocate and ZINARA will come up with the funding. 
Meanwhile, motorists who evade paying toll fees by using by-passes and individuals who allow their private roads or premises to be used as by-passes are now liable to pay a fine of $20 000.
