The Bulawayo Bus Operators Association (BBOA) and the Bulawayo United Residents Association (BURA) have both urged the government to suspend the licences of errant long-distance bus operators.
The associations accuse some bus operators of flouting traffic rules and regulations by picking up and dropping passengers at undesignated places in Bulawayo.
Many buses are using undesignated places to pick up and drop off passengers thereby causing chaos within the city centre.
Popular illegal pick-up points include Harare Road, outside Eveline High School and the Centenary Park area along Leopold Takawira and Corner Fort Street and 8th Avenue as well as the corner of Fort Street and Leopold Takawira Avenue, popularly known as Tredgold.
Last week, the government suspended the operating licences of Rimbi Tours and Zebra Kiss buses after the two bus operators caused a fatal road traffic accident in Mutoko on Tuesday.
The suspension came after a Rimbi Tours bus driver was involved in a race with a Zebra Kiss bus driver along the Harare-Nyamapanda Road leading to the death of one person and serious injuries to seven others.
Bulawayo Bus Operators Association chairperson Patrick Dube said:

The suspension of the operators’ licences was a decisive move which sent a clear message to operators flouting traffic rules and regulations and the same should happen here.
</blockquote>
He said members of his association operate from Renkini, Entumbane Bus Terminus, Nkulumane Complex and Hamara.
Bulawayo United Residents association chairperson Winos Dube said:

The buses that are parking and picking up people at undesignated places such as Centenary Park, must have their licences withdrawn like what happened to these two bus companies.

Tshova Mubaiwa spokesperson NdabaMabunda said they are losing business to the illegal transporters and urged the police to get rid of the menace.
ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said those who continue to flout the traffic rules and regulations must be reported to the police.

Residents Demand Suspension Of "Errant" Bus Operators

Former MDC vice president Elias Mudzuri and six other party officials have rejected their suspension by the party.
On Monday 16 January, MDC national chairperson Solomon Chikohwero announced the suspension of seven officials saying they face serious disciplinary charges, which he however, did not specify.
The seven are Mudzuri, Norest Marara, Gift Konjana, John Nyika, Den Moyo, Edwin Dzambara and Edward Kakora.
In response to their suspension, Mudzuri and the other officials challenged Mwonzora and Chikohwero’s legitimacy, saying the offices of party president and national chairman are vacant.
In a letter addressed to the MDC Council, Mwonzora and Chikohwero, the seven said they will continue to perform their duties in the party. They wrote:

First and foremost, it is imperative that we put the subject matter into context.
As per 6.4.4.1 of the MDC Constitution, The President and National Chairman of the party together with the rest of the Standing Committee office bearers shall be elected at Congress.
Since no congress has been held according to the tenets of the party constitution, the offices stipulated in 6.4.4.1 are deemed to remain vacant.
Any individual seeking to usurp powers vested in 6.4.4.1 is acting ultra-vies the party constitution and any actions, announcements, or representations from such individuals are null and void.
We the “seven” as listed below vow to continue working to uplift the values, principles, and ethos of the Movement for Democratic Change as we engage the grassroots toward a people-driven Congress.

Suspended MDC Officials Challenge Mwonzora's Legitimacy, Vow To Remain In Office

Bulawayo Town Clerk, Christopher Dube, on Wednesday suspended the city’s health services director, Dr. Edwin Sibanda, over alleged incompetence.
Sibanda is blamed for deteriorating environmental standards in the Central Business District.
Bulawayo mayor Councillor Solomon confirmed the suspension saying council will deal with the matter once it is furnished with the relevant reports. Solomon Mguni:

Bulawayo Health Services Director Suspended For Incompetence

Victoria Falls City’s finance director Nerville Ndlovu has been suspended to pave way for investigations into allegations of gross misconduct, a <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/victoria-falls-finance-director-suspendedsix-other-employees-resign/">Sunday News</a> report claims.
Acting Mayor of Victoria Falls, Councillor Tonderai Mutasa confirmed the suspension adding that six other employees have resigned. Said Mutasa:

Those developments are true. I can confirm that six employees resigned, five from the accounting department and one from the health department.
I can also confirm that the financial director Mr Nerville Ndlovu has been suspended from duty.
I am not yet privy to the reasons for the suspension since I was out of town.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Victoria Falls Clr Somvelo Dhlamini was on Monday further remanded in custody to 21 November 2022 by the Hwange regional magistrates court to allow for further investigations into his case.
Dhlamini was arrested on 6 October on charges of illegally acquiring a housing stand from the local authority.
He is accused of prejudicing Victoria Falls Municipality of US$15 000 and a potential prejudice of US$66 462.75.

Victoria Falls City Council's Finance Director Suspended

On Wednesday, the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) suspended its director, administration and human resources Mr Precious Murove, finance manager Mr Shadreck Matengabadza and administration manager Mr Peter Bweterere on charges which include violating tender and procurement procedures.
This comes a week after Zinara suspended its finance director Mr Simon Taranhike who is reported facing the same allegations as the trio suspended this week. Speaking to The Herald, Zinara spokesman Mr Augustine Moyo yesterday confirmed the suspension of Matengabadza, Murove and Bweterere. The Herald reports that Taranhike violated procedures in the repayment of a $206 million loan to the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA).
