The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Affairs has confirmed that the Zimbabwe mission in Sudan was attacked in the ongoing fighting in the country.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Livit Mugejo told <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/zimbabwe-embassy-in-sudan-attacked/">State media</a> that property at the Embassy was destroyed.
He also said the attack happened after Zimbabwe had successfully evacuated its citizens back home. Mugejo said:

I can confirm that our properties in Sudan were destroyed by some of the fighting forces in the country taking advantage that we evacuated our people and the current war going on there.
We have reports that most countries’ properties were also targeted. It’s sheer criminality taking advantage of the war to loot the property of our diplomats and embassy there.
This is an unfortunate incident that is currently happening in Sudan.

There is an armed power struggle in Sudan between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary force – Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Since a coup in October 2021, Sudan has been run by a council of generals, led by Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of the armed forces and the de facto president, and his deputy and leader of the RSF, Gen Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, better known as Hemedti.

Govt Confirms Attack On Zimbabwe Embassy In Sudan

The home of Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Sudan, Hilda Mafudze, was ransacked by insurgents who stole valuables belonging to the diplomat.
In a statement, Sudan’s foreign ministry condemned the attack and urged the international community to speak out against the attack. Reads the statement:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns in the strongest terms the rapid support militia’s storming of the embassy and the home of the Zimbabwean ambassador, and the theft of valuables, in flagrant violation of international norms and laws concerned with the sanctity and protection of the headquarters and property of diplomatic missions.
The Ministry calls on the international community to condemn the terrorist and criminal behaviour of the militia.

It is, however, not clear if the Zimbabwean diplomat was at home or she was away.
<a href="https://www.zimlive.com/sudanese-rebels-attack-ransack-zimbabwe-ambassadors-home/">ZimLive</a> reported that Mafudze, a former opposition MDC official, was seconded to Sudan by then President Robert Mugabe after she was recommended to the position by then Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai during Government of National Unity.

The RSF was formed in 2013 and has intervened in conflicts in Yemen and Libya and is accused of brutality.
The head of the RSF, Gen Dagalo, has also developed economic interests including controlling some of Sudan’s gold mines.
On one hand, Gen Dagalo has said that the 2021 coup was a mistake and has reportedly tried to present himself and the RSF as being on the side of the people.
On the other hand, Gen Burhan has said the army will only fully hand over power to an elected government.

Sudanese Insurgents Loot Zimbabwe Ambassador’s Home

The Sudanese paramilitary force, Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has accused the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan of violating a ceasefire agreement between the warring parties.
The factions of Sudan’s military agreed to renew a three-day ceasefire for another 72 hours, shortly before it was due to expire.
The ceasefire had been expected to end at midnight local time on Thursday.
The ceasefire was to enable civilians access to much-needed necessities and to facilitate their evacuation.
However, in a statement released this Saturday, the RSF said the SAF had violated the agreement in its quest to organize a violent coup. Reads <a href="https://twitter.com/RSFSudan/status/1652293828307451905?s=20">the statement</a>:

Despite pledging to uphold a temporary humanitarian ceasefire, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) continues to bombard residential areas in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum from the air and with heavy artillery.
SAF General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan is persisting with his attempt to organize a violent coup with the aid of extremists from the Muslim Brotherhood linked to former Sudanese dictator and military officer Omar al-Bashir.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) remains firmly committed to the ceasefire. We are working to open safe corridors for Sudanese citizens, residents, and non-residents, to afford them access to much-needed necessities, and to facilitate their evacuation.
We again underscore the RSF’s commitment to democracy, human rights, and the establishment of a civilian government. The RSF will continue to work as a stabilizing force in Sudan, countering any efforts by the Muslim Brotherhood to usurp power.
We urge citizens to ignore the numerous baseless rumors and disinformation propagated by former members of the al-Bashir regime, which are aimed at instilling fear in the population.

Foreign nations have been urging their citizens to leave the country as soon as possible.
Evacuations are continuing, but many foreigners are still stuck in Sudan.
Local civilians are continuing to flee the capital, Khartoum where there are problems with supplies of food, water, and fuel.
According to <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-65414838">BBC News</a>, at least 512 people have been killed in the fighting and almost 4 200 injured, although the real number of deaths could be much higher.
Fighting in Sudan broke out on 15 April as the result of a bitter power struggle between the regular army (SAF) and RSF.

Sudanese Paramilitary Force Accuses Regular Army Of Violating Ceasefire Agreement

<a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/Nick_Mangwana">Nick Mangwana</a>, the permanent secretary of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, stated the evacuation of 101 Zimbabweans from Sudan is underway following the eruption of armed conflict in the North African country.
In a social media post seen by Pindula News, Mangwana said more updates will be issued in due course. He said:

On April 15, 2023, a violent conflict erupted between different factions of Sudan’s military government, causing clashes throughout the country, particularly in Khartoum and Darfur. As of April 25, the conflict has resulted in at least 459 deaths and 4,072 injuries.
In Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, there is an ongoing violent conflict between factions that have caused chaos in the country. Foreigners are getting ready to leave with a military escort. The Sudanese army has announced it will help evacuate diplomats from the United States, Britain, China, and France on military planes.
Countries have struggled to repatriate their citizens with Sudan’s main international airport closed. Foreign countries have ordered their citizens to simply shelter in place until they can figure out evacuation plans.
Witnesses reported a major battle in north Khartoum between the Sudanese Armed Forces and RSF fighters involving air strikes, artillery and small-arms fire.

Update On Evacuation Of Zimbabweans From Sudan

The President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), Chief Fortune Charumbira, has urged the two warring camps in the Sudan conflict to lay down their arms and resolve their differences through mediation and dialogue.
Heavy fighting erupted in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, and in other parts of the country on Saturday between regular soldiers and members of a paramilitary force – Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
United Nations envoy Volker Perthes said that at least 185 people have been killed and over 1 800 wounded since the fighting erupted.
The two sides in the Sudan conflict are using tanks, artillery and other heavy weapons in densely populated areas.
In a recent statement, Charumbira called for dialogue between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary force to prevent any further loss of life. Reads the statement:

The President of the Pan African Parliament, Hon. Chief Fortune Zephania Charumbira, has noted with grave concern the outbreak and escalation of armed conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), that has resulted in the death of at least three civilians and injuries to countless others.
The latest outbreak of violence which, regrettably, comes during the holy month of Ramadan, can only but reverse the significant gains that the Republic of Sudan had made in the quest for peace, stability and post-conflict recovery over the last two years.
Clearly, there can be no winner in this conflict.
In that regard, the Pan African Parliament implores all parties involved to settle their differences through mediation and dialogue to prevent any further loss of invaluable Sudanese lives and work towards the restoration of lasting peace and stability in the country and the region.

Charumbira, who is the President of the Chief’s Council of Zimbabwe, was recently reported for indecent assault by his married niece who is a teacher at a school in Masvingo.
He allegedly sexually abused his 27-year-old married niece on two occasions.
