Kariba residents have been advised to steer clear of bush pathways, especially at night, following a sighting of two lionesses crossing the main road into the bush corridor near Summerset Road.
Debbie Ottman, spokesperson for the Kariba Animal Welfare Trust Fund, urged residents to avoid traversing the bush and recommended walking in pairs to reduce the risk of lion attacks. Kariba is located within a wildlife area where lions and other predators are frequently observed, making it crucial for both residents and visitors to exercise caution.
Ottman also urged the public to report any lion sightings to aid in monitoring their movements and ensure community safety.

Kariba Residents Urged To Avoid Bush Pathways After Lioness Sighting

A lion that killed a donkey at Marvel and a cow near the Pangani Training Centre off-ramp on the Filabusi-Silalatshani route last week Tuesday is still on the loose.
The lion killed another bull at Insiza Bridge on Thursday as it remains elusive to Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife (Zimparks) rangers who have been pursuing it.
Villagers around Pangani Vocational Training Centre, Zhulube, Gangabezi, Msithi, and Mahole were cautioned not to walk at night while children were forced to miss school last week as a precaution.
In an interview with <a href="https://cite.org.zw/search-for-stray-lion-in-filabusi-continues/">CITE</a> on Monday, Zimparks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo confirmed their team is still on the ground searching for the lion. Said Farawo:

We are still on the ground and we have not found the lion. These animals move long distances and they move at night, during the day they will be sleeping so it is difficult to find them.
</blockquote>
The District Development Coordinator’s office on Friday told villagers that the lion passed through Mahole on Thursday and turned eastwards.
It then killed a bull just after the Insiza Bridge, which is about a kilometre from the bridge.
Zimparks rangers who are tracking it discovered that after killing the bull, the lion changed direction and is now moving in circles.
Authorities advised farmers to keep their livestock inside kraals, while the safety warning was extended to Village 22 in Killarney, Eskadale farm and the rest of Godlwayo grazing lands up to Shamba mountains.
Members of the public have been urged to avoid walking at night during its peak hunting time as they may fall victim.
Authorities suspect the lion had sought refuge in thick bushes found at Waterfall Farm, Ekusileni, four Tombo villages and Wallingford B Farm.
