The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it is a criminal offence to falsify information to a public authority.
This comes after a 26-year-old Karoi woman was sentenced to five months imprisonment by a Karoi Magistrate for “deliberately supplying false information to a public authority” alleging that she had been raped by a neighbour.
According to the NPA, the woman, who has not been named, made a Police report on 06 March this year alleging that she had been raped by a man from her neighbourhood. The NPA said:

The false statement was recorded after which a docket of rape was opened. On the 14th of March 2024, the accused person made a statement stating that she had made a false report.
She pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 5 months imprisonment of which 3 months was suspended for 5 years. A further 2 months were suspended on condition that she performs 105 hours of community service.

In an unrelated incident, the NPA reiterated that it is a criminal offence to have sexual relations with a young person under the age of eighteen whether they are female or male.
The reminder pertains to an incident involving a 27-year-old man from Karoi who received a 12-month prison sentence from the Karoi Magistrates’ Court after being found guilty of “engaging in sexual intercourse with a young person”.
The court heard that sometime in October 2023, the accused person proposed love to the 15-year-old complainant and she accepted the proposal.
On 09 March 2024, the girl stole her sister-in-law’s house keys which had been left in her mother’s care and went and slept in the house without her sister-in-law’s knowledge.
The following day she took the accused person to the said house where they engaged in sexual relations overnight. The girl’s mother found her in the house on 22 March.
When asked what she was doing there, she revealed that she had been intimate with the accused person. A police report was made, leading to the arrest of the man.
He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment of which 6 months was suspended for 5 years.

Woman (26) To Perform Unpaid Work For Making False Rape Report; Man (27) Jailed Six Months For Bedding Girl (15)

The Mutare Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced to four years in prison a 35-year-old man from Penhalonga for engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), in December 2023, the accused person initiated a romantic relationship with the complainant, a 16-year-old.
The complainant accepted the accused’s love proposal, and as a gesture of their relationship, the accused gifted the young person a cellphone on February 1, 2024, facilitating communication between them.
The accused and the complainant arranged to meet in the privacy of the complainant’s bedroom. There, they engaged in unprotected sexual activity. A few days later, they had a second sexual encounter. However, their actions did not go unnoticed.
When the complainant’s mother noticed that the accused was having sexual relations with her daughter, she reported the matter to the Police.
On March 9, 2024, the complainant eloped to the accused person’s residence, where they began living together as if married.
The Mutare Magistrates’ Court found the accused guilty of violating the law by having sexual relations with a minor.
As a consequence, he received a four-year prison sentence. However, one year of the sentence was suspended for five years, subject to good behaviour.
The NPA emphasized that it is a criminal offence to engage in sexual relations with a young person under the age of eighteen, regardless of their gender.
Under Zimbabwe’s new Marriage Act, all marriages are entered into between men and women above 18 years of age. Facilitating marriage of children under 18 years is now considered a criminal offence.
The minimum age of marriage for both girls and boys is 18 years. It is a substantial crime to marry off a child, and anyone involved in such actions will be prosecuted.

Man Jailed Five Years For "Marrying" A 16-Year-Old Girl

A Grade Four learner at Kaitano Primary School in Nyanga District is heavily pregnant after she was sexually abused by her uncle, a cousin and a schoolmate.
The girl, who turned 13 on 6 January this year, is now six months pregnant.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/grade-4-student-heavily-pregnant/">The Manica Post</a> on Monday, with the consent of her father, the girl said he was intimate with her uncle, who is in his late 40s; her 23-year-old cousin and a 15-year-old schoolmate.
The abusers were identified as Alison Mabvundisa, Joseph Mabota-Mabvumba, and a 15-year-old teenager (name withheld).
The girl’s uncle is a known artisanal gold miner. It is believed that he sexually abused the girl to enhance his gold mining initiatives, a ritual act known as kupinga gomba.
The detestable practice is done with the help of traditional healers. Said the girl:

I slept with Baba vaTalent (Mabvundisa). This happened while I was alone at home.
I also slept with my schoolmate (name withheld) and Joseph Mabota-Mabvumba.
</blockquote>
In a separate interview with The Manica Post, the Grade Four learner’s father, (name withheld to protect her identity) said:
<blockquote>
We were informed of her pregnancy by the school authorities. In fact, we were summoned to the school and they told us that she is pregnant.
We are being assisted to handle the matter by a local childcare worker and we have been to the clinic with her. She is six months pregnant now.
The school allowed her to continue attending lessons and will only be excused to give birth.
She will continue with her education soon afterward. Her uncle is said to be the one responsible for the pregnancy.

He said he has not talked to his brother about the issue as he is no longer coming to the area.
The local childcare worker, Dudzai Matiwenga told The Manica Post that the matter was reported to the police. She said:
<blockquote>
I received the report of this child’s pregnancy after the school authorities referred her to the clinic.
Teachers discovered that she is pregnant during a sports event.
When I contacted the Social Services Department, I was advised to take the child to the police.
The father had to sell a goat to raise the bus fare for us to go to the police.
Unfortunately, the child has difficulties explaining what really happened to her.
Two of the alleged perpetrators (the teenager and Mabota-Mabvumba) were initially arrested, but have since been released.
When we went to the clinic, we were told that it is too late to terminate the pregnancy.
The child told us that she was in love with her schoolmate and Mabota-Mabvumba. She said the schoolmate was her long-time boyfriend.
She said he would visit her at home and force her to be intimate with him several times.
She also told us that she met Mabota-Mabvumba on her way from fetching water while he was going to the tuck shop.
They got intimate that day. Later, the issue of her uncle, who is in his late 40s, then surfaced.

Matiwenga said she was now facing daily threats from the families of the accused persons.
She said the situation has been compounded by the questionable mental state of the Grade Four learner and her parents.

Grade Four Learner Six Months Pregnant

A woman from Chikanga Village, Chief Chingoma, Mberengwa, was arrested after she allegedly offered to a minor girl (15) to have sex with a young man (18).
It is alleged that the 18-year-old man had attempted to rape the girl earlier but failed.
The woman is related to both the man and the girl. The 18-year-old man is his son and the 15-year-old girl is her granddaughter.
The man is alleged to have raped his niece with the assistance of his mother who persuaded her granddaughter to have sexual intercourse with him.
The man allegedly had intercourse with his niece several times after her grandmother promised her some money.
Prosecutor Ali Mutause told the court that sometime in August 2022, at around 9 PM, the accused went to the minor’s homestead and knocked at her bedroom door.
The court heard that the girl refused to open and the accused went away and returned in the company of her grandmother.
The juvenile then opened the door after she heard her grandmother’s voice.
The grandmother instructed the complainant to have sex with the accused and left the two alone.
It is alleged that the accused tried to have sex with the minor but failed after she bit his hand.
The following day, the grandmother and the accused returned again and she promised the complainant some money if she slept with the accused.
She complied and the accused raped her on different occasions from then on until 12 September 2022.
The court heard that at some stage, the grandmother persuaded the girl to get married to her ex-boyfriend.
The grandmother once assaulted the girl’s ex-boyfriend accusing him of having an affair with her granddaughter.
It was further alleged that on 13 September 2022, the girl’s grandmother escorted her to the former boyfriend’s homestead and left her left there, but she returned the following day.
When the girl arrived home her grandmother forced her to go back to her former boyfriend but she refused.
On 06 January 2023, the grandmother chased her away and she reportedly spent two days in the bush.
On 08 January 2023, the complaint’s stepmother summoned her to her place and the girl opened up to her stepmother about what had happened.

Woman Forces Granddaughter To Sleep With Her Son For Cash

South Africa’s Police Minister Bheki Cele has welcomed the arrest of a female police officer who is shown in a video having sex with her 10-year-old son in 2020.
The 40-year-old policewoman, who is based in Limpopo Province, has been charged with the rape of a minor and other charges that relate to sexual grooming and the creation and distribution of pornography.
She is expected to apply for bail in court in Marble Hall on Monday.
Cele said what the “dishonourable” policewoman did is beyond comprehension. He said:

When you are told that a member of the SAPS has been arrested, it is one of the most painful things.
But to do this one is even beyond comprehension, this is not just a member of the SAPS, it’s the real mother of the boy…
She is arrested and to us, she is no more an honourable member, she is a criminal.
</blockquote>
In the video which has been circulating on social media, the policewoman can be seen lying naked on a bed.
The camera then shows a young boy, also naked, holding the woman’s thighs.
She then tells the boy to get on top of her and continues to encourage the boy despite him telling her that he does not know how to do it.
The woman was charged with creating and distributing child pornographic material and sexual grooming of a child on Friday, 20 January 2023, the same day on which she was arrested.
