FIFA upheld the suspension of Zimbabwe from international football saying the ban can only be lifted when or if the southern African country has implemented its recommendations.
Zimbabwe was suspended in February 2022 after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the ZIFA board headed by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Felton_Kamambo">Felton Kamambo</a> over alleged maladministration and sexual abuse of female referees. 
FIFA said the suspension of the Felton Kamambo-led board constituted government interference with the sport.
The ban on Zimbabwe can only be lifted when the Felton Kamambo-led board has been reinstated, FIFA declared.
An overwhelming 199 over 200 people voted for the upholding of the suspension of Zimbabwe at the FIFA Congress being held in Rwanda. 
Meanwhile, SRC has said it did not apply for readmission. SRC board chairman, Gerald Mlotshwa said the commission’s immediate focus remains to oversee the implementation of key reforms which were recommended by the ZIFA Restructuring Committee before any efforts to have the suspension lifted. 
The SRC also says they are no longer in a position to legally reinstate Kamambo since he was recalled by the ZIFA Congress in April 2022.

FIFA Upholds Zimbabwe Suspension

Warriors midfielder <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Marshal_Munetsi">Marshall Munetsi </a>has once again urged the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) and Zimbabwe Football Association(ZIFA) to find common ground for the country to play international football.  
Zimbabwe was <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/full-text-fifa-suspends-zimbabwe-from-international-competitions/">suspended from the international community by FIFA, </a>after the SRC has suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA executive.
Since then, the impasse between the two bodies has resulted in all Zimbabwean national teams missing out on international competitions, a setback bemoaned by Munetsi. He said:

As we approach the next set of qualifiers, as football players we are reminded that our national teams remains banned from participating in any international assignments, this reminder cascades down to the the fans as well, they can’t enjoy the national teams they love to watch playing.
As things stand we continue to lose a generation of talented footballers because they do not have opportunities to showcase their talent during national team assignments, this situation continues to harm not only the future of football in the country but it is depriving the general community of the downstream benefits that football can bring to the social economy of the nation.
I continue to implore to the SRC and ZIFA urging all the parties involved to find common ground and come to an amicable solution that will allow our football to survive as we move into the future.
Our football needs us to find each other and for us to move in one direction and speak with one voice. The partitipation of our country at major tournaments stands to benefit us more.

"Find Common Ground": Munetsi Urges SRC, ZIFA Again

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Football_Association_(ZIFA)">Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA)</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sports_and_Recreation_Commission">Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC)</a> have indicated that they are in no hurry to get the country’s FIFA suspension lifted. 
Gerald Mlotshwa, who was presenting ZIFA’s forensic audit, Thursday, said the lifting of the suspension was not their priority, adding that they were prepared to face off with FIFA even if it meant extending the fight beyond a lifetime.
Zimbabwe was suspended in February after the Mlotshwa-led SRC sacked the then ZIFA president <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Felton_Kamambo">Felton Kamambo</a> alongside his board members that include Philemon Machana and Joseph Mamutse. Said Mlotshwa:

The lifting of the suspension is not a priority, let us get that out of our heads, our priority is the process to clean up our football,” 
We are not in a rush at this point in time to go to FIFA and say lift the suspension. They will ask us whether we have cured all the things we gave as reasons when we suspended the ZIFA board, we are not there yet.
When you restructure or implement reforms, that is not an overnight process, that process has already started and it started when we suspended the executive committee and it is an ongoing one with certain milestones.
I will tell you that the reform process does not stop, you are continuously developing yourself, FIFA itself has already said we are underwriting this. DO not misunderstand this however as an indication that FIFA will then automatically lift the suspension.
ZIFA will approach FIFA and formally ask for lifting of that suspension when we feel that we are ready to do so. This will be an ongoing process and might even outlive you.

Zimbabwe has, since the suspension, missed out on the COSAFA Cup finals, AFCON and World Cup qualifiers while clubs were not included in the 2022 and next year’s African Safaris.
Kenya, which was suspended at around the same time as Zimbabwe has been re-admitted by FIFA after its government withdrew its decision to suspend football federation officials in hopes of ‘cleaning the football mess there.’ 
Mlotshwa’s sentiments, supported by ZIFA president Gift Banda, come at a time calls for Zimbabwe to be re-admitted into the football mother body’s fold have grown.
Players and administrators have joined in the push for re-admission which, according to FIFA, can only be done when the Kamambo-led ZIFA executive committee has been reappointed.
Banda said they were in agreement with the SRC that the football in Zimbabwe has to be cleaned.

"ZIFA Will Approach FIFA When We Feel Ready To Do So, The Process Might Outlive You"

Football’s world governing body FIFA has warned the Tunisian Football Federation (TFF) that their team’s participation at World Cup 2022 could be under threat if there is found to be government interference within the organisation.
Having qualified for their sixth World Cup, the North African country is in Group D along with reigning world champions France, Australia and Denmark, whom they face in their November 22 opener, Al Jazeera reported.
The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) sent a letter to TFF earlier this week outlining concerns after Tunisia’s Youth and Sports Minister Kamel Deguiche had threatened to dissolve some federal offices, among other recent comments that have irked the global governing body.
As per FIFA rules, federations of all member nations must be free of any third-party or government involvement.
Kenya and Zimbabwe are currently banned because of this breach. India was briefly suspended for the same reason in August this year.
In the case of Zimbabwe, the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sports_and_Recreation_Commission">Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC)</a> suspended <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Football_Association_(ZIFA)">ZIFA</a> board president, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Felton_Kamambo">Felton Kamambo</a> over alleged misuse of funds. FIFA said <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zifa-suspension-football-stakeholders-speak-as-zimbabwe-faces-fifa-ban/">the move</a> constituted interference by the government.
The letter from Kenny Jean-Marie, FIFA’s director of member associations, to the general secretary of the TFF Wajdi Aouadi reminded the association of its obligation to act independently and avoid undue influence by third parties. Read the letter confirmed to the Reuters news agency:

This follows a <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/09/01/cabinet-sports-resume-no-quarantine-for-travellers-from-delta-affected-countries/">cabinet meeting on Tuesday which resolved that sports can resume</a> at the backdrop of a decrease in the number of coronavirus cases and deaths. Pindula News presents the SRC’s statement on the matter.

The Sports and Recreation Commission (‘SRC’) advises National Sports Associations (‘NSAs’), delivery agencies and all stakeholders that with effect from 1st September 2021 ALL SPORTS CODES have been approved to resume activities. 
The approval is subject to the observance of World Health Organization guidelines on safe resumption of sport, NSA approved protocols, national legislation and policy directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and International Federation protocols relating to the prevention and containment of COVID-19. 
The following additional conditions shall also apply, as appropriate: – 
1. It is strongly recommended that all athletes, including children who are of fourteen years in age and above, be vaccinated. In this respect, the SRC will liaise with NSAs for implementation. 
2. All athletes, including children under the age of fourteen years are to adhere to all Covid-19 protocols as appropriate to the sporting activity. 
3. All staff at sports facilities to be vaccinated before the admission of patrons. 
4. All coaches, managers and support staff involved in sports activities or working at sports facilities are to be vaccinated before their involvement or resumption in any such activities or attendance at any sports facilities. 
5. Subject to compliance with the foregoing clauses 3 and 4, gyms (McluciMg dojos, boxing and wrestling clubs), health spas and fitness centres shall admit only vaccinated patrons. 
6. All activities shall be held in a “No Spectator” environment. 
7. Sports venues shall be registered and maintain registers of participants and their vaccination status.

For all COMPETITIONS Local, Regional, Confiner.’ and Intemational, the following is applicable: – ALL competitions, travel and hosting requests shall be applied for separately (that is per event) through the SRC, which will submit its recommendations to the Minister for approval in consultation with the Ministry of Health and Child Care. 
The following deadlines are applicable in this respect: – 
1. Local competitions: – 
FOURTEEN (14) business days prior to the intended competition date. 
2. Regional, Continental and International competitions: – 
THIRTY (30) business days prior to the intended travel date for the competition date. 
No competition in Zimbabwe or travel outside of Zimbabwe shall take place without the written authorization of the Ministry of Youth. Sport. Arts and Recreation in consultation with the Ministry of Health and Child Care. 
The Ministry, SRC, NSA, delivery agencies’ compliance officers along with the relevant law enforcement authorities shall continue to monitor all sports facilities and centers for compliance. Violations of health protocols and other stated conditions will result in the summary suspension of the relevant sport code and the prosecution of the offending persons or responsible officials. 
Stakeholders are encouraged to contact the SRC should they be in any doubt as regards the implementation of their respective sporting activities or opening of sports facilities.

SRC Provides More Details On Resumption Of Sports

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sports_and_Recreation_Commission">The Sports and Recreation Commission</a> (SRC) has allowed football and other sports codes to resume after being banned recently following the introduction of new measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus. Pindula News present the SRC’s statement below.
<blockquote>The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) is pleased to inform the public that nine sports codes have been granted an exemption to resume specific activities in order to fulfil critical international and domestic tournaments. The relevant NSA’s are being informed in writing by the SRC.
These approvals include fixtures related to national teams from the Zimbabwe Rugby Union and the Zimbabwe Cricket. The Zimbabwe Football Association has also been granted authority to resume the Chibuku Super Cup League games and to undertake training camps for the national football teams in preparation for their participation in the COSAFA Cup in July 2021.
The detailed list is as follows-
1. Zimbabwe Rugby Union
a. Zimbabwe Rugby Union officials to travel to Konya, Uganda and Ivory Coast to officiate matches from the 24th of June 2021 to the 19th of July 2021.
b. Zimbabwe 7s Rugby (Cheetahs) team to travel to France and participate in the Olympic Games qualification repechage tournament
c. Zimbabwe 15s Rugby (Sables) team to travel to:
i. Portugal for international friendly matches on the 28th of June 2021 to the 3rd of July 2021.
ii. Tunisia for Rugby Africa Cup qualifying tournament from the 8th to the 19th of July 2021.
d. Zimbabwe 15s Rugby (Sables Women’s) team to travel to Uganda for international test matches against Uganda from the 14th to the 18th of July 2021.
2. Zimbabwe Cricket
a. Bangladesh men’s cricket team tour of Zimbabwe to proceed as originally scheduled from the 7th to the 27th of July 2021.

Football fans in Zimbabwe have intensified calls for the resumption of the sport after the Sports and Recreation Commission authorised sporting activities that fall under the low-risk sport code were authorised to resume.

Calls For Football Resumption Intensify

Cabinet on Tuesday 16 March authorised the resumption of sports codes in the medium and high-risk categories. The development was confirmed by the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sports_and_Recreation_Commission">Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC</a>) in a letter to stakeholders. We present the letter below.
<blockquote>The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) wishes to advise the public that Cabinet has, today this 16th March, 2021, authorized the resumption of sport codes previously designated as “medium and high-risk”. The Attorney General’s Office is working on the Statutory Instrument to give effect to the decision of Cabinet.
The actual resumption of these sport activities is subject to the relevant National Sport Associations (NSA’s) being notified in writing by the Sports and Recreation Commission that they have satisfied the set criteria for resumption. The medium and high-risk sport codes shall resume only after they have demonstrated their ability to meet the set Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and protocols for the containment of COVID-19 which were communicated on Monday, 15th March. To the extent that they have not already done so, the NSA’s and individual gyms are urged to confirm the conditions set out in that communication.
Additionally, Sport facilities, including sports clubs, with onsite restaurants, can continue to provide take-away services and may now also serve sit-in customers at 50% seating capacity.
The SRC will on Thursday, or as soon as the statutory instrument has been gazetted, publish those former medium and high-risk sports that can resume activity.

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has announced sport codes now permissible under the relaxed coronavirus lockdown regulations.
While cricket, athletics, swimming and golf, among others, have been given the green light to resume, football, by far the country’s most popular sport, remains banned.
Commenting on the latest development, sportscaster Mike Madoda described the continued ban of football as the weaponisation of the coronavirus. <a href="https://twitter.com/mikemadoda/status/1367196584870608902?s=20" rel="noopener" target="_blank">He wrote on Twitter</a>:
<blockquote>The weaponization of Covid? Social gatherings of up to 50 permitted and yet athletes cannot return to training? Our PSL and D1 clubs have no more than 40 people at a training session and that’s deemed risky? Seems there’s a bigger game at play here.</blockquote>
In a statement on Wednesday, the SRC said it had been notified by the Minister of Sport, Kirsty Coventry that low-risk sport codes may resume their activities following National and World Health Organisation guidelines. The statement read:
<blockquote>Pursuant to Cabinet approval and the publication of Statutory Instrument 61 of 2021 this Wednesday, 3rd March 2021, as read with Statutory Instrument 200 of 2020, the Sports and Recreation Commission (‘SRC’) advises that it has now been formally notified by the Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation (‘the Minister’) that the following National Sports Associations (‘NSAs) may resume their activities as outlined in their previously approved COVID-19 protocols taking into account National and World Health Organisation guidelines.
… If any of the … activities are played at a sports club, bars and changing rooms are to remain closed and any available restaurants authorized to operate are to only accept take-away orders.</blockquote>

Low-risk Sports Resume But Football Remains Banned

The Sport and Recreation Commission has been forced to reduce the delegation to take part in the 12-day biannual Africa Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games scheduled for Botswana from December 5.
SRC had planned to send a 292 delegates comprising athletes, technical team, management and medical personnel, but were forced to reduce the number to 86 due to financial constraints. SRC would have needed over $850 000 for 292 delegates but now needs $640 000. Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Secretary Thokozile Chitepo confirmed the development yesterday during the unveiling of Team Zimbabwe at the National Sports Stadium.
Chitepo said the selection process did not in any way mean the excluded teams were less important. She said early preparations would be made to ensure that in the ninth edition, teams would not be trimmed due to fiscal constraints.

SRC Forced To Trim Region 5 Youth Games Delegation From 292 To 86

Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) spokesperson Tiri Nheveyembwa confirmed to Business Times that the commission’s acting director general Joseph Muchechetere was picked up for questioning on alleged maladministration and malpractices by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).
Nheveyembwa told Business Times that ZACC has been questioning Muchechetere since last Friday. Said Nheveyembwa:
<blockquote>Yes I can confirm that Muchechetere has been summoned by ZAAC, but we don’t know the details yet about what they have been questioning him. He has been going there since Friday.</blockquote>
Sources close to the matter told Business Times that Muchechetere is being questioned about alleged financial irregularities that has left the commission with a debt close to $1,5 million. An audit produced by Nolands Harare Chartered Accountants, shows SRC’s debt ballooned from $500 000 two years ago. Board chairman Siwela and Muchechetere signed an acknowledgement of the audit report. The auditors noted that SRC had accumulated losses of $1,387, 415 with their total liabilities exceeding current assets by $1, 026 317.
