Police have confirmed that they are investigating allegations of aggravated indecent assault against Anymore Gumbo, the Deputy Headmaster of Masase High School in Mberengwa.
In a statement released on Monday, April 7, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police are working to verify the claims and identify possible victims. He said:

Gumbo is currently on the run after being accused of sexually molesting over 30 pupils at the boarding school.
He is alleged to have sodomised several boys over time, with a recent incident involving a Form Two student who sustained injuries.
The student reported experiencing severe discomfort, which led to fellow pupils alerting staff and breaking the silence surrounding the allegations.
Gumbo reportedly left the school premises last Friday night as law enforcement officials arrived to investigate and question him.
The situation came to light after one pupil required medical attention following the alleged assault. This medical intervention led to a series of accusations.
In a letter to parents and guardians dated April 3, headmaster Albion Masukume confirmed that investigations are ongoing, involving both the police and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. He wrote:

Currently thorough investigations by Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and the police are underway. The alleged victim was taken to hospital swiftly and was examined by a medical doctor.

Meanwhile the alleged perpetrator is not at the station and being sought after for interrogation so that he responds to the allegations.

According to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/mberengwa-school-in-sodomy-stormdeputy-head-accused-of-violating-35-pupils/">Chronicle</a>, Anymore Gumbo escaped the premises of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Zimbabwe (ELCZ) run school on Friday as police arrived to investigate the alarming allegations.
It is claimed that Gumbo would invite pupils to his office under the pretense of mentorship before subjecting them to sexual assault.
Concerns have been raised that the school head, Albion Masukume, attempted to cover up the situation rather than address it.
In response to the disturbing reports, police and officials from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education have initiated an investigation.
Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in the Midlands Province, confirmed that Gumbo is currently evading capture and that police are making frantic efforts to apprehend him.
An outraged parent, whose child is among the victims, said that many of the affected students have been too afraid to report the assaults to school authorities. Said the parent:

Officials from the Ministry of Education have been on the ground since Friday after they received an anonymous letter from one of the teachers as the issue of sodomy had become the talk at the school.

Masukume confirmed the developments and said he has reached out to the parents of the affected pupils. He wrote:

Deputy Head Accused Of Sodomising 35 Learners At Mberengwa School

Three inmates at Harare Remand Prison have been sentenced to an additional 20 years each after being convicted of sexually assaulting a fellow prisoner.
As reported by <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/harare-remand-jail-birds-jailed-20-years-for-sodomising-fellow-inmate/">ZimLive,</a> the convicted individuals are Kinhswell Ngwerume (32), Kudakwashe Mazorodze (35), and Lazarus Chinobhururuka.
Despite their claims of innocence, they were found guilty of aggravated indecent assault by Magistrate Loice Mukunyadze following a full trial.
Prosecutor Munyaradzi Muza presented evidence that the assault occurred on August 11 2024 while the inmates were locked in their cells for the night.
Mazorodze directed the victim to enter Cell C2, where nine other inmates, including Ngwerume and Chinobhururuka, were present.
The victim reported being awakened around midnight by Ngwerume’s sexual advances. It was established that Ngwerume engaged in indecent acts against the victim’s person, who refused his advances.
In response, Ngwerume, assisted by Chinobhururuka and Mazorodze, physically assaulted the victim. Said Muza:

Chinobhururuka allegedly forced the complainant to ingest an unidentified drink, which made him feel dizzy and powerless.
</blockquote>
The three inmates allegedly removed the victim’s underwear and took turns sodomizing him multiple times.
After the assault, they returned to their usual positions in the cell.
The next morning, the victim reported the incident to a prison officer, who opened the cell. The victim was then taken to the hospital for a medical examination.

Three Harare Remand Prison Inmates Jailed 20 Years For Sodomising Fellow Inmate

Three inmates at Bulawayo Prison were arraigned before Regional Magistrate Joseph Mabeza on Tuesday, facing allegations of raping a fellow prisoner, reported <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/3-inmates-in-court-for-raping-fellow-prisoner-at-bulawayo-prison/">ZimLive</a>.
The accused, Bhekimpilo Sinyoro (30), Thabo Ncube (24), and Arnold Chemhere (29), allegedly assaulted a 20-year-old inmate currently incarcerated at the facility.
The victim reported to the police that he was sexually assaulted during a power outage around 9 PM on December 29 of last year.
According to Prosecutor Dominic Moyo, the incident began when Sinyoro approached the victim, inviting him to sleep closer.
When the victim declined, Sinyoro returned with Ncube, and together they forcibly dragged him to their sleeping area.
Once there, the victim was made to lie on his side, and Chemhere allegedly covered his face with a blanket, pressing him down.
When the victim resisted, Sinyoro reportedly unbuttoned his shirt, and with the assistance of Ncube and Chemhere, forcibly removed his shorts. Sinyoro then proceeded to sodomize the victim.
After the assault, when the victim managed to free himself, the trio allegedly offered him rice and beans, possibly in an attempt to appease him.
INcube has a prior conviction for malicious damage to property and is scheduled to complete his sentence on February 1, 2025.
Chemhere was previously convicted of unlawful entry in aggravating circumstances, while Sinyoro had recently completed a 30-day sentence for theft and was arrested while leaving prison.
The three men were remanded in custody and are set to appear again on January 25 for their trial. They are represented by lawyer Takunda Chipisa.

20-Year-Old Man Sodomised By Three Inmates At Bulawayo Prison

A Gweru woman whose son was sodomised by the son of a police officer has revived the fight for justice for her son by engaging police in Gweru to relook into the matter.
The boy, now 10 years old, was only 7 when he was sodomised by the son of a police officer who was 14 when he allegedly committed the crime.
The victim’s mother (38) told <a href="https://newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local/article/200036394/gweru-woman-takes-police-head-on-over-sodomised-son">Southern Eye</a> that her son was abused in 2021 and since then she has been trying to get justice for her child in vain. She said:
<blockquote>
I wrote to the police recently to look into the matter of my son but up to now there is no response.
If they don’t respond by Christmas time, l will take the matter further up to police headquarters.
My son was abused and the police can’t take this soft approach to the matter. I will fight for justice.
</blockquote>
The mother, (who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim) said she reported the case to the police on November 11, 2021, but to date,e no action had been taken against the suspect.
She said she suspected a cover-up of the sexual violence against her son at Mtapa Police Station where the accused’s father is stationed. She said:

I reported the matter in November 2021 but the suspect has not been arrested and no one has been taken to court.
I strongly feel this issue has been swept under the carpet and l now feel helpless and l have just decided to live with the pain.

According to a letter addressed to the mother from Gweru Urban District Police Station, dated April 28, 2022, the matter was reported at Mtapa Police Station. It reads in part:

In your letter, you mentioned that you reported the case at Mtapa Police Station where your son (name given) was a victim of aggravated indecent assault.
You stated that the accused (name given) is a son to one police constabulary named (name given). Due to this fact is your belief that this case has taken too long to come to court as you suspect that the accused is being favoured as he is a police constabulary’s son.
</blockquote>
In the letter, the Police promised to make sure that the issue will be fairly handled at Mtapa.
However, to date, the victim is still to get justice for the abuse he suffered.
A medical report seen by Southern Eye dated November 26, 2021, indicates that the boy had been “sexually abused several times” through anal sex.
The report also showed other tests including HIV, were carried out before the doctor who medically examined the boy recommended counselling for the minor. Said the mother:

Yes, my son got counselling but the trauma of seeing the perpetrator walking freely on the streets as if nothing happened is too much to bear.
</blockquote>
ZRP spokesperson in Midlands Province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said his office had not received such a report.
He, however, urged aggrieved people under such circumstances to reach out to the police and not suffer in silence.

Gweru Mother Demands Justice For Child Sodomised By Police Officer's Son

Richard Ncube (48), a truck driver for Top Channel, and his assistant Alex Moyo (22) appeared in court this week facing serious allegations of sexually abusing a male passenger. Both men have been charged with aggravated indecent assault.
The pair was brought before Harare Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa and were remanded in custody until November 19 for a bail application.
According to court papers, on November 10, the complainant boarded Ncube’s truck in Chegutu, intending to travel to Chitungwiza via Harare. After arriving in Harare, Ncube parked the truck at Zim Meal Company in Waterfalls, where the complainant fell asleep in the passenger seat.
It is alleged that Ncube then removed the complainant’s clothing and began to touch him inappropriately. When the complainant objected, Moyo reportedly intervened, threatening him with a gun-like object. Ncube is further accused of performing sexual acts on the complainant without his consent.
Feeling unsafe and unfamiliar with the area, the complainant remained in the truck overnight. The following morning, he reported the incident to the police at ZRP Mbare, leading to the arrest of both Ncube and Moyo.

A truck driver and his assistant have been accused of sexually abusing a male passenger. The passenger fell asleep in the truck and woke up to inappropriate touching. The driver's assistant threatened him with a gun-like object. The passenger stayed overnight feeling unsafe and reported the incident to the police the next morning. Truck Driver In Court For Sodomising Male Passenger

A 49-year-old security guard from Hwange is accused of sodomising a boy and two other men on separate occasions after offering them temporary accommodation at his workplace.
The suspect has been charged with four counts of aggravated indecent assault. To protect the victims’ identities, the accused’s name has not been disclosed.
He appeared before a magistrate in Hwange and has been remanded in custody until October 25.
One of the victims, a 17-year-old who accepted the accused’s offer for shelter, recounted a traumatic experience of being subjected to non-consensual anal intercourse while asleep in the guard’s bedroom.
In a statement, the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) indicated that the accused provided the victim with accommodation at his home, only to commit a grievous act the following night.
Despite efforts to protect himself by wearing tight-fitting clothing, the accused allegedly struck again, leaving the victim traumatised and fearful for his safety.
Sadly, this pattern of abuse continued, as two more male colleagues, aged 19 and 18, became victims of the accused’s depraved actions on separate occasions in August 2024. Said the NPA:

A 49-year-old man from Hwange who is employed as a security guard was arraigned before the Hwange Magistrates’ Court facing four counts of aggravated indecent assault.
On the 10th of August 2024, the accused person offered accommodation to the complainant (17) who had secured a job at his place of work. The accused person offered him accommodation at his house. 
Allegations are that, on the following night, the accused person and the complainant were asleep in the accused person’s bedroom, when the accused person had anal sexual intercourse with the complainant, without his consent.
The complainant confided in his friend and workmate who advised him to sleep wearing tight-fitting clothes to deter the accused person.
The accused person however had sexual intercourse with the complainant once more on the night of the 13th of August.
It is further alleged that the accused person also indecently assaulted two more male colleagues (19 and 18) using the same modus on the 15th of August and on the 25th of August, respectively.
</blockquote>
The accused remains in custody while awaiting further legal proceedings, with a remand date set for October 25.

Security Guard Sodomises Three Men At His Workplace

A 35-year-old man who is a boy scout trainer in the Chief Seke area has been sentenced to a total of 28 years imprisonment for sodomy and showing porn to minors.
The National Prosecuting Authority confirmed the case on Wednesday, 28 August, the accused person was brought before a Chitungwiza Regional Magistrate facing 7 counts of aggravated indecent assault and 6 counts of contravening the Data Protection Act. Said the NPA:

The accused person indecently assaulted boys aged between 10 and 19. The incidents occurred between January 2022 and January 2024.
The accused person used to train the boys in karate and would take advantage of their camp days.
He would instruct them to thoroughly wash themselves, after which he would show them pornographic material on his laptop before indecently assaulting them.
The matter came to light when one of the complainants narrated his ordeal to his parents and they alerted other parents via their WhatsApp group. Upon inquiries, the other complainants also disclosed their ordeals.
He was sentenced to a total of 28 years imprisonment effective.

Seke Boy Scout Trainer Jailed 28 Years For Sodomy And Showing Porn To Minors

Two men, Ayanda Nkomo (26) and Will Jaricha (28) were recently arraigned before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court facing sodomy charges.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said on March 31, 2024, the accused individuals were drinking beer together at Konka Night Club in Beitbridge.
Around 23:40 hours, they left the nightclub and proceeded to a nearby toilet while hugging each other. 
Suspicious of their behaviour, two of the nightclub’s security personnel followed them.
Upon opening the door of the toilet, the security personnel discovered that the accused persons were caressing each other around the waist and kissing each other on the mouth.
Additionally, the first accused person had his erect manhood exposed. The first accused person attempted to flee but was apprehended.
The matter was reported to the Police, leading to the arrest of both accused persons.
As a result of the court proceedings, the accused persons were convicted and sentenced to either pay a fine of US$150 each or face 120 days imprisonment if they fail to make the payment.
In Zimbabwe, sodomy is classified as unlawful sexual conduct. It is defined in the Criminal Law and Codification Reform Act as either anal sexual intercourse or any act involving physical contact that would be regarded by a reasonable person as an indecent act between two consenting adult men. Both men involved can be charged with sodomy.
However, boys under 14 and mentally incompetent persons cannot be charged with sodomy.

Men Fined US$150 For Sodomy

A 40-year-old Kwekwe dealer reportedly discovered that his lover whom he had stayed with for two months was actually a man.
<a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/she-is-a-man-man-discovers-lover-a-man-two-months-later/">The Sunday News</a> reported that James Mapawa, a popular dealer at Narrans Building in the central business district of Kwekwe, stayed with Praise Mpofu (25) before he found out his lover was a man.
Mapawa reportedly made the discovery after Praise experienced an erection while they were being intimate.
The matter came to light when Mapawa had a quarrel with Praise who had been dressed like and pretended to be a woman.
It is alleged that sometime in July at an unknown date and at a nightclub in Kwekwe, Mapawa met Praise who was dressed like and pretended to be a woman.
He reportedly proposed love to Praise and he accepted the proposal. Mapawa then took Praise to a house where they started staying together.
It is reported that on 7 September, the two were having sexual intercourse when Praise allegedly had an erection during the act.
The revelation shocked Mapawa and the two had a misunderstanding which degenerated into a fist fight.
Mapawa then reported Praise to the police and the two were both arrested.
The two recently appeared before Kwekwe magistrate Itai Kagwere facing sodomy charges.
They were not asked to enter a guilty or not guilty plea and were released on $100 000 bail each.

Kwekwe Dealer Discovers His Lover A Man Two Months Later

Police in Murehwa are looking for a man who fatally assaulted his employer before fleeing.
The suspect, Antony Chipanda, later claimed that his 81-year-old employer had tried to sodomise him.
Police confirmed the gruesome killing on their official Twitter. Police said:

Tarashira fatally assaulted his wife, Fungai Shereni (35), with a log on Independence Day at Maplanka Farm, after accusing her of cheating with her ex-husband.
