Police in Midlands Province have launched a manhunt for a man who fatally stabbed a 20-year-old rival suitor with a knife following a misunderstanding over a girl.
The incident occurred in Silobela under Chief Malisa area on Thursday at around 5 PM.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Midlands Province confirmed the indent to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/president-mnangagwa-to-officially-open-the-56th-session-of-un-economic-commission-for-africa-conference-on-finance-ministers-with-focus-on-inclusive-green-economies/">Chronicle</a>. He said:

I can confirm that the police are investigating the murder of a man who died on admission at Nkayi District Hospital after he was stabbed with an okapi knife. He said:
Both, the now-deceased Narvel Ndlovu and the suspect in the matter, Nkosikhona Ncube (20) hail from Rungu Village under Chief Malisa in Silobela.
It is alleged, they had a misunderstanding over a girl. The dispute degenerated into a fight.

Ncube allegedly drew a knife from his pocket and stabbed Ndlovu once in the neck. Said Insp Mahoko:

Ndlovu collapsed and lost consciousness and Ncube fled from the scene. Ndlovu was rushed to Nkayi Hospital where he died upon admission.

20-year-old Man Fatally Stabbed In Dispute Over A Girl

Chief Malisa of Silobela has ordered his subjects to vote for President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the upcoming general elections, saying he fought for the country’s liberation from colonial rule.
Speaking during Independence Day celebrations held at Mutimutema Secondary School in Silobela, Chief Malisa Mnangagwa said Mnangagwa initiated several developmental projects in his area such as the construction of dams. <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/silobela-chief-orders-subjects-to-canvass-for-zanu-pf-lauds-mnangagwa-for-good-governance/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> quoted Chief Malisa as saying:

The President wants 6 million votes and we have to mobilise. If you leave from here, each person must go and mobilise at least 10 of his own people, for the President.
The President wants us to give him a fresh mandate and we are going to give him that because he fought for the country and gave us land so that we will live peacefully and continue to develop.

The Constitution of Zimbabwe forbids traditional leaders from being members of any political party as this greatly compromises the discharge of their duties such as resolving disputes amongst people in their communities.
The Constitution clearly stipulates in Chapter 15 section 281 (2) that:
<blockquote>
Traditional leaders must not–(a) be members of any political party or in any way participate in partisan politics; (b) act in a partisan manner; (c) further the interests of any political party or cause; or (d) violate the fundamental rights and freedoms of any person.

Silobela Chief Orders Subjects To Mobilise Votes For ZANU PF

The Zimbabwe Republic Police in Kwekwe District has banned the carrying of dangerous weapons for a three-month period starting on 19 April 2023.
Speaking during Independence Day Celebrations held in Silobela, the Officer Commanding Kwekwe District Chief Superintendent Ison Chapeta noted that criminal activities by machete-wielding gangs have spiked in the district. He was quoted by <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/we-will-crush-them-ruthlessly-says-police-boss-in-warning-to-machete-wielding-gangs/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> as saying:

Crime rates have surged in Kwekwe. These crimes are mainly committed by people carrying offensive weapons.
As the officer commanding Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Kwekwe District has put in place a prohibition order starting from 19 April 2023 to 19 July 2023, as the regulating authority Kwekwe District, this prohibition order is ordering people not to carry weapons.
Despite your station or statute in life, you are going to be arrested if you are found on the wrong side of the law.
We are going for elections and we don’t want such rogue elements in our midst therefore, we are going to deal with anyone found on the wrong side of the law decisively. We want to have peaceful polls.
If you are to be caught on the wrong side you will be jailed for a period not more than six months or a fine not exceeding level 5.

Chief Superintendent Chapeta said he will personally command a 20-member team to enforce the prohibition order barring people from moving around with weapons. He said:

You are our eyes in the community, notify us of anyone whom you will find carrying weapons and we will deal with that person, not the party not anything but the individual.
We must be peaceful in the district, we want to put an end to this.
I will personally command the team, I want the team to be ruthless, and I want the team to work as expected by the law, forewarned is forearmed.

Dangerous weapons include firearms, explosives, knives with blades longer than 3 inches, machetes, and other items that are deemed to be potentially lethal such as catapults, axes, and knobkerries.

Police In Kwekwe District Ban Carrying Of Dangerous Weapons

Hunger has pushed elderly people including grannies into gold panning in Silobela District in the Midlands Province.
This was said by the Zibagwe Rural District councillor for Ward 29, Willard Moyo.
Moyo told <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/grannies-turn-to-gold-panning-as-hunger-stalks-silobela/">The Mirror</a> that villagers have no option but to sell the few cattle that they have in order to buy food while schools’ feeding programmes have ceased.
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that used to provide food handouts in most rural parts have reportedly withdrawn due to an unfavourable political environment and government policies.
Moyo urged the Government to bring back school feeding schemes claiming school kids are starving. He said:

Most of the people in my ward including women have resorted to gold panning along the banks of the Gweru River.
The challenge is that Social Welfare food programs that traditionally give food to the less privileged have reduced the number of beneficiaries. We were told that the Government’s budget is limited.
We also used to receive food handouts from donors like the World Food Programme (WFP).
We appeal to the Government to increase the number of beneficiaries in social welfare schemes and to bring back school feeding programs before we die of hunger.

Grannies Turn To Gold Panning In Silobela As Hunger Bites

A Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) councillor Willard Moyo in Midlands Province has urged voters to vote for a ZANU PF Member of Parliament in next year’s general elections.
Speaking during a recent prize giving day at Donsa Primary School in Silobela, Moyo, who is a Zibagwe Rural District Council (RDC) councillor, urged parents to vote for ZANU PF’s Mthokozisi Manoki-Mpofu.
Manoki-Mpofu, who was also present at the prize-giving ceremony, is the incumbent Member Of Parliament (MP) for Silobela. Moyo said:

I thanked the MP for attending our prize-giving day. He donated a lot of things to our school, we worked together to have clean water at our clinic and schools, and we worked together to have electricity in my ward.
Regardless of our political differences, he was able to work with me in development. So I thanked him for that.
I even encouraged people to vote for such leadership in the coming elections. Yes, I said people must vote for an MP like him who is not always political.
He is able to disengage the political gear and engage in development gear with other people from different political backgrounds.
We are tired of people who want to be MPs and divide people on political grounds.

CCC Councillor Urges Voters To Elect "Development Oriented" ZANU PF MP

Loreto High School in Silobela, about 100 km west of Kwekwe, allegedly sent learners in forms 1, 3 and 5 home this Thursday for outstanding fees and is said to be planning to send forms 4 and 6 home on Friday.
A school authority who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the development in a phone interview with Pindula News. Said the authority:

Yes, it’s true. They left the school around 10 am. They were ferried by the school bus to Kwekwe and some have since returned suggesting that they met their parents or guardians in Kwekwe.
</blockquote>
The authority said this reporter must contact the school head, Mr Philip Musindo Mapiravana who denied the reports. He said:

What’s your mission? I do not know anything about that.
</blockquote>
Mr Mapiravana also denied writing a WhatsApp message, gleaned by this reporter, in which he allegedly told parents that the learners had been given passes to go home. Read the message:

A parent who spoke to Pindula News also suggested that the school head had sent the learners home. The parent who spoke on condition of anonymity expressed concern over the development saying learners were “dumped” in Kwekwe. Added the parent:

Then from there, he said vana vazvionere and some of them have no money on them. Some come from Harare or even further.
In an audio sent earlier, the head said the bus will go as far as Gweru.
The major concern is the safety of these children a lot is happening. No parent was informed prior to this that their children were coming home. These children are engaging in all sorts of things this week you published those 12 girls from a Shurugwi school who were then found drunk in white waters. What if they don’t get home? What if they don’t have transport money from Kwekwe then that child is stuck in Kwekwe. Who knows what they will do to get home?

The head is allegedly planning to send home the students in classes sitting for national examinations – forms 4 and 6 – tomorrow (Friday) after their exams.
The development comes after Parliament has discussed the issue of non-payment of fees. 
On 28 September 2022, Umzingwane Constituency National Assembly member Levi Mayihlome said <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/09/30/parents-reluctant-to-pay-fees-abusing-govt-policy-which-forbids-sending-learners-home-over-fees-mp/">parents were abusing the government’s policy</a> which forbids schools from sending learners home over non-payment of fees.
He made the remarks during the National Assembly Question and Answer session adding that the situation was not sustainable as school administrators were running schools on a zero budget. He said:

Loreto High School Sends Learners Home Over Outstanding Fees

22-year-old Rania Moyo says he is lucky to be alive after he was trapped 100 metres underground at Velocity 36 Mine in Silobela for four days last week.
Moyo left home around 4 AM on Thursday last week and entered the mine shaft with his workmates at around 5 AM.
Soon after, the shaft started collapsing and his two workmates managed to escape just before a big boulder fell and blocked the opening, trapping Moyo inside the shaft. He said:
<blockquote>
The moment l realised l was trapped underground in that shaft, l prayed to God asking him to accept my soul in heaven because l did not think l would come out alive.
It was around 5 AM and we had just entered the shaft when the mine started caving in.
We immediately moved towards the entrance trying to escape before it could get blocked.

Moyo said he was trapped in the shaft in a space so small that he could not even stretch his legs or sit up straight.
He said the place was so dark he could not even see his own hands and the temperatures also dropped and he felt like he was going to freeze. He said:

I could not even move a muscle and l knew screaming was not going to help. I do not know when was the last time l prayed, but on that day, l prayed really hard, asking God to accept my soul when l get to heaven.
I apologised for all the wrong things that l have done in my life because l didn’t think I would survive.

Moyo said he is not really sure what day or time it was when he finally heard movement and voices of people outside trying to communicate with him. He said:
<blockquote>
Because l had no food or water, whenever I started feeling weak l would scoop a handful of soil and eat it to try and regain my energy.
</blockquote>
He said the shaft became his home and toilet for what he has now been told were four days. Said Moyo:

On the day the entrance was opened l could not believe l had survived. It seemed like a dream because l have never heard of anyone who survives being underground for days without food and water.
</blockquote>
He was taken to Silobela District Hospital where he was checked and given boosters to regain his energy.
He was discharged on the same day and is still recovering from home.
Moyo said he has no choice but to go back to the shaft as soon as he regains his strength as the job is his only source of income.
The miner’s mother, Polite Moyo, said her son was pulled out of the mine on Monday, which was the fifth day since he got trapped underground.
Kwekwe District Civil Protection Unit (CPU)  chairperson Fortune Mpungu said the rescue efforts involved the Ministry of Mines, police, small-scale miners, the community, and the CPU.

Miner Recounts 4-day Ordeal Trapped Underground, Says He Ate Soil To Survive

An unidentified artisanal miner from Silobela in the Midlands Province spent three days and nights trapped underground after a mine he was working in collapsed last week.
The incident was confirmed by Kwekwe District Development Coordinator (DDC), Fortune Mupungu, who is also the local Civil Protection Unit chairperson. He said:

I can confirm receiving a report that a man from Silobela spent three days underground after he was entrapped at Velocity 9 Mine in Silobela.
Concerted efforts from various stakeholders stretched from Friday up to Monday. Villagers really assisted in rescue efforts, community leaders such as Councillor Deetleef, the government and Jena Mines all put in a sterling performance.
We were communicating with the trapped miner for three days, but we realised as the days were progressing that his strength was now ebbing as he didn’t have food or drink.
We managed to rescue him on Monday and he was immediately transferred to Silobela District Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

Artisanal Miner Spends Three Days And Nights Trapped Underground

A Silobela man has appeared before Gweru magistrate in connection with the shooting on Independence Day at Silobela Dam Site Bottle Store that has left one dead and another in a fragile state.
It is alleged that Mike Mlilo of Magola from Silobela shot Gift Bhebhe in the neck and Xolani Magigwana on the left thigh at Dam Site Bottle Store in Insukamini after they accused him of flashing lights at them. 
Mlilo who appeared before Gweru magistrate Beaulity Dube facing murder and attampted murder charges was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to May 3. He was also advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
It is alleged that Mlilo who was driving a Ford Ranger was approached by a group of patrons who who were armed with machetes, knives and stones accusing him of flashing his car lights into their faces while they were in a bar. 
A heated debate is alleged to have ensued resulting in Mlilo pulling his pistol. He then fired at Bhebhe and Magigwana who were later rushed to Lower Gweru Mission Hospital where Bhebhe was pronounced dead on arrival. 
The matter was reported to the police leading to Mlilo’s arrest.
