England-based Warriors captain Marvelous Nakamba has praised Scottland Football Club owner Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya for his financial contributions to local football, which have transformed the lives of many players.
In the recently concluded Northern Regional Soccer League (NRSL) season, Sakupwanya, a gold dealer with close ties to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, rewarded his players with generous winning bonuses, paying as much as US$1,500 per match. He also promised each player US$10,000 if they achieved promotion to the top flight.
Sakupwanya’s associate, Wicknell Chivayo, further rewarded the players by giving each of them a Toyota Aqua vehicle for winning the NRSL title.
However, Scottland FC is still awaiting confirmation of its promotion to the Premier League next season, pending the outcome of an appeal by Karoi United to ZIFA.
Nakamba, who plays for Luton Town in England’s Championship, believes the substantial financial support provided by Sakupwanya will significantly uplift local footballers, offering them better opportunities and a brighter future. He said (via <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200035345/nakamba-sings-scotts-praise">NewsDay</a>):

I wish to pay tribute to Scottland FC, particularly the club owner Honourable Scott Sakupwanya. He is changing the lives of footballers. I have known Scott for a long time now.
He is very passionate about football and passionate about helping the youths. I know him personally and he is someone who always brings out a helping hand.
From the engagements I have had with him and looking at what he has already done so far, it’s clear that Scottland will change the face of football if they have not done so already.
It’s the first club from Division One in the history of our country to reward its players with huge life-changing bonuses, including cars. That is hugely commendable and we must thank Honourable Scott for that.
People should know that football is a very short career and players need to be well-paid, so we need to appreciate what people like Scott are doing.
He should get all the support that he needs because he is doing a great job in helping the youths.
I understand that he is going to let some players go, but they will be allowed to keep the cars.

In anticipation of their participation in the top-flight league next season, Scottland FC has reportedly strengthened their squad by signing Highlanders duo Peter Muduhwa and Lynoth Chikuhwa, along with the Moyo twins, Elvis and Kelvin, from Dynamos.
Nakamba believes Scottland’s significant financial investment will inspire other clubs to elevate their standards, offering improved remuneration and bonuses to players to remain competitive. He said:

Some of the players had given up hope in their lives, but now, they have somewhere to start from. They can afford to live a life that they couldn’t have imagined and it’s just pleasing to see how Scottland is changing lives and influencing other teams to raise the standards and offer better remuneration and bonuses to players.
I believe the best players in the country will be looking to sign for Scottland and come next season, the competition is going to be strong in the premier league.

Scott, together with Chivayo, have pledged to pay US$250 000 to the team as a reward for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals qualification.
Already, his Betterbrands Gold company is one of ZIFA’s principal sponsors, and also one of the major sponsors for Highlanders. Said Nakamba:

Nakamba Applauds Scott For Financially Empowering Local Footballers

Wicknell Chivayo has fulfilled his pledge to the 2024 ZIFA Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL) champions, Scottland, by delivering 20 Toyota Aquas to the club, as promised.
Chivayo, a controversial figure known for winning multi-million-dollar government tenders and living a lavish lifestyle, had vowed to provide vehicles and US$1 million to Scottland if they beat MWOS to the title.
Scottland were awarded the trophy on Friday, and the club’s owner, Pedzai Sakupwanya, quickly presented the trophy to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
However, the ruling that allowed Scottland to overtake MWOS is still in dispute, as Karoi United has appealed the decision.
The NRSL Disciplinary Committee granted Scottland a 3-0 win over Karoi United, despite the match being abandoned in the 88th minute with the score tied at 1-1. If ZIFA overturns this ruling, MWOS would be crowned champions instead.
In a social media post on Monday, Chivayo, who is closely connected to Zimbabwe’s political elite like Sakupwanya, said that his gifts were intended to boost morale within the Scottland camp. He wrote:

The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Scottland was awarded a penalty after Leroy Mavunga was fouled in the box. Ronald Pfumbidzai stepped up to convert the spot kick.
Mavunga then extended Scottland’s lead with a well-taken goal just before half-time. Black Mambas pulled one back through Munyaradzi Dambudza, whose goal proved to be little more than a consolation.
Mavunga sealed the win in the second half, scoring his second goal of the match and Scottland’s third to ensure the full three points and promotion to the PSL.
Scottland owner Pedzai Sakupwanya dismissed any complaints from MWOS, insisting that his club had earned the title and deserved the promotion. He said:

I would like to thank God because it was not an easy road but God did it for us, I would want to thank Honourable Innocent Benza for being with us throughout the journey.
We fought a good fight, like what I predicted when we were number seven that we would be number one and today (yesterday) we just did it.

So one needs to be talked about in life, our opponents tried all they could to pull us down but they could not achieve it.
Some were 12 points ahead of us but they conceded too many draws and we were winning, so they should not complain.
They must congratulate us, because as Scottland, we want to take our football forward, we need to empower our youths.

MWOS won 1-0 but that was too little too late with Scottland holding on to their two-point advantage.

Northern Region Soccer League club Scottland FC has announced plans to construct a 15,000-seater stadium in Mabvuku, a sprawling suburb in eastern Harare.
The club, owned by Mabvuku-Tafara legislator Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya, has reportedly secured a 30-year lease for Number One Grounds, located adjacent to Mabvuku High School, from the City of Harare.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/15-000-seater-stadium-set-for-mabvuku/">The Herald</a>, Scottland FC chairman Tonderai Sakupwanya, who is Scott’s brother, said that the proposed stadium will accommodate at least 15,000 spectators.
The facility will also have various ancillary amenities, including a swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts, as well as a rugby field and a cricket field. Said Sakupwanya:

I can confirm that we now have a 30-year lease from the City of Harare to have Mabvuku Number One Ground.
We are planning to build a 15,000-seater stadium there next year. The stadium is not going to be confined to Scottland only but it will be open to everyone.
Schools will also be allowed to use the facility and we will put up an open pool where schools will compete.
It will be an all-encompassing facility with a high-performance centre available as well because we want to develop sport in all ways that we can as Scottland FC. So, we are working round the clock to see to it that we can start the work that needs to be done.
At the moment, we are working on preliminary designs for the football stadium and we will also retain basketball courts, a rugby field, tennis and cricket facilities in the stadium.

Mabvuku has been unable to host a standard Premiership venue ever since Lafarge Stadium (formerly Portland Stadium) was condemned over a decade ago.
The now deteriorated Lafarge Stadium once buzzed with activity when Circle United, Mabvuku’s only team to compete in the top flight, was a formidable presence in the domestic league in 2002.

Karoi United, a team in the Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL), have formally appealed the ruling that found them responsible for the abandonment of their match against Scottland.
ZIFA Chief Executive Officer Yvonne Manwa confirmed to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/karoi-utd-appeal-against-nrsl-judgment/">H-Metro</a> that Karoi United had submitted the required US$5,000 appeal fee to the football association. ZIFA is now expected to schedule a hearing once all the necessary documentation has been processed.
The appeal will temporarily halt the celebratory atmosphere in the Scottland camp as they approach the final day of the NRSL championship race on Friday.
The NRSL disciplinary committee had ruled on Monday that Karoi United were at fault for the abandonment of their match against Scottland at Chikangwe, which had been tied 1-1 at the time.
Scottland, owned by ZANU PF MP Pedzai Sakupwanya, climbed to the top of the NRSL after being awarded a 3-0 victory over Karoi United for an abandoned match.
With this decision, Scottland now holds 84 points from 37 games, leading MWOS by two points, who have 82 points from the same number of matches.
Football stakeholders suspect corruption in handling the matter, given the departure from precedent in dealing with abandoned matches.
For example, in 2018, a match between Bindura United and Mushowani Stars was abandoned in the 80th minute at 2-2 after referee Langton Chitata was assaulted by an unknown assailant.
Bindura was fined US$1500, and Mushowani was cautioned, but the 2-2 result stood.
Similarly, in the following season, a Northern Region Soccer League match between Black Rhinos and Mushowani was abandoned in the 80th minute, also at 2-2, after referee Nelson Mawanda was assaulted.
Both Rhinos and Mushowani were fined US$2000, but the 2-2 result remained.
In contrast, for the Karoi United vs. Scottland match, the Disciplinary Committee cancelled the 1-1 scoreline and awarded Scottland the win, benefiting them with just one match left in the season and providing a clear advantage over MWOS.
Scottland will host Black Mambas at Rufaro Stadium, while MWOS will face Agama at Ngoni Stadium on Friday in the final round of fixtures.
MWOS can still secure the sole ticket to the Premier Soccer League if they win and Scottland draw, thanks to their superior goal difference of plus-3.

The much-anticipated judgment regarding the abandoned match between Karoi United and Scottland was postponed on Wednesday after Karoi United requested additional time to submit a mitigation report, having been found guilty in the case.
The Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL) Disciplinary Committee determined that Karoi United was responsible for the abandonment of their league match last month.
The match was stopped in the 82nd minute when referee Matthew Dingo reported experiencing pain in “one of his testicles” after being struck by a “hard object.” He also mentioned bleeding from the shin where he had been hit.
In a statement released yesterday, the NRSL assured that the judgment would be delivered no later than Monday. It said:

In the disciplinary proceedings for the Northern Region for the abandoned match between Karoi United FC versus Scottland FC.
After delivery of the ruling on the guilty verdict of Karoi United FC, their lawyer requested time to submit mitigation in writing by the close of business on Friday, November 1.
The ruling on the penalty shall be delivered by the Disciplinary Committee by Monday, November 4 latest.

Karoi United were charged with “Contravention of Section D2 (2.1) of the Northern Region Soccer League Rules and Regulations”.
The Disciplinary Committee is expected to award Scottland the three points on Monday, regardless of Karoi United’s mitigation.
Depending on the outcomes of tomorrow’s matches involving title-chasing MWOS FC and Scottland, the latter could rise to the top of the league standings.
Currently, MWOS holds a one-point lead, but if Scottland wins against Herentals Under-20, they will ascend to the top following the conclusion of their case against Karoi United.
If both teams win their remaining two matches of the season, Scottland will finish in first place with a two-point advantage.
Meanwhile, MWOS will no longer control their own fate and must rely on other teams to secure victories against Scottland.
Only one team from the Northern Region Soccer League will earn promotion to the Premier Soccer League for the 2025 season, making the competition all the more intense.

Reports suggest Mangombe was fired following Dynamos’ 1-1 draw against Bulawayo Chiefs on Sunday. However, the club claimed Mangombe had resigned.

After attending a farewell visit at the Dynamos training session on Tuesday morning, former coach Genesis Mangombe reportedly surrendered the Ford Everest vehicle he had been using. He then promptly joined Scotland FC, where he was provided with a new vehicle.

Mangombe is now the head coach, William Nyasulu is the assistant, and other people have roles too. After leaving Dynamos, Mangombe gave back the car he was using and got a new one from Scottland.
