2022 FIFA World Cup Update

Senegal football star Sadio Mane will miss the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by Qatar due to injury.
Mane had surgery on the leg injury he sustained in Bayern Munich’s meeting with Werder Bremen on Bundesliga Matchday 14. His club said in a statement:

Sadio Mane underwent successful surgery. During the operation, a tendon was reattached to the head of his right fibula.
The FC Bayern forward will therefore no longer be available to play for Senegal at the World Cup and will begin his rehab in Munich in the next few days.

Mane has scored 11 goals and made four assists for the German club this season.
The former Liverpool winger was injured on 8 November in the champions’ penultimate Bundesliga fixture of the calendar year.
Despite the setback, the 30-year-old was still included in the Senegal squad for the World Cup, in the hope he would be fit come the latter stages of the groups.
Senegal’s hopes of progressing to the knockout stages of the 2022 World Cup finals were probably pinned on Mane after the forward won the African Cup of Nations in February, before firing his country to the World Cup finals in a playoff win over Egypt.
Mane was named African Player of the Year and finished second behind Karim Benzema in the 2022 Ballon d’Or vote.

Injured Senegal Star Sadio Mane Ruled Out Of World Cup

Sadio Mane will be included in Senegal’s squad for the World Cup despite suffering a leg injury this week.
A source within the country’s football federation told AFP on Thursday:

Coach Aliou Cisse is set to announce his squad on Friday.
Mane, who finished second in this year’s Ballon d’Or voting behind Karim Benzema, and ahead of Kevin De Bruyne, <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/sadio-mane-not-out-of-world-cup-yet/">limped off during Bayern Munich’s 6-1 win</a> over Werder Bremen on Tuesday.
He was diagnosed with an injury to his right fibula. Bayern said he would undergo further tests in the coming days. 
According to the source, Mane “remains calm, he’s professional, he knows that injury is part of the job.”
The 30-year-old has been ruled out of Bayern’s final game before the World Cup against Schalke on Saturday. 
The Senegal team doctor, Manuel Afonso, has flown to Munich to assess the extent of Mane’s injury.
Mane, the two-time African player of the year, is pivotal to the African champions’ hopes of progressing to the knockout stages. 
Senegal hope their talisman will be fit in time for their opening game of the tournament on November 21 against the Netherlands.
The Lions of Teranga will also take on hosts Qatar and Ecuador in Group A.
Senegal President Macky Sall on Wednesday tweeted:

Augustin Senghor, president of the Senegalese football federation, told AFP Senegal has been worried since receiving the news about the former Liverpool forward’s injury.

Bayern Munich's Sadio Mane Will Be Included In Senegal's World Cup Squad

The German club, Bayern Munich has said that Senegal striker Sadio Mane isn’t out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup yet, despite earlier reports saying that he would miss it.
Mane was involved in a collision with Werder defender Amos Pieper in the first half of the encounter at the Allianz Arena.
French publication L’Equipe reported that Mane’s issue would be enough to see him miss out, with Senegal’s first match of the Qatar showpiece just 12 days away.
However, Bayern’s official report later on Wednesday said that whilst the forward would miss Saturday’s game with Schalke, there would be further tests to see the extent of the injury.

Sadio Mane Not Out Of World Cup Yet

Liverpool FC forward, Sadio Mane has tested positive for coronavirus which means he will miss the Reds’ trip to Aston Villa on Super Sunday.
This comes after Liverpool team-mate Thiago Alcantara who arrived this season from Bayern Munich also tested positive for coronavirus earlier this week.
The English champions announced the development in a statement which also indicated that the Senegalese international will be quarantined as required. Reads the statement:
<blockquote>Sadio Mane has tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently self-isolating according to the necessary guidelines.
The forward, who started and scored in Monday’s 3-1 victory over Arsenal, has displayed minor symptoms of the virus but feels in good health overall.
However, like with Thiago Alcantara, Liverpool Football Club are – and will continue to – follow all protocols relating to Covid-19 and Mane will self-isolate for the required period of time.</blockquote>
Mane has had a perfect start to the current season having scored a brace in the 2-0 victory against Chelsea and one goal in Liverpool 3-1 victory against Arsenal.
