Eleven widows of clergyman <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/08/07/jailed-robert-martin-gumbura-has-died/">Robert Martin Gumbura who died from COVID-19</a> recently have vowed that they will not remarry.
Gumbura died aged 65 while serving a jail term at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison after being convicted on rape charges.
He was jailed in 2014 and was initially sentenced to 50 years in prison, 10 of which were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/08/07/gumbura-jail-term-slashed-by-half/">Twenty (20) years were slashed in 2020 after a series of appeals made through the High Court.</a>
To his wives, the clergyman was a “victim of some complicated conspiracy”.
The Sunday Mail reports that the late Gumbura’s second wife and family spokesperson, Queen Bunga said her husband’s death came as a shock.
She said his family was not informed that he was not feeling well and up to now they are still trying to come to terms with the fact that he is no more.

We are grieving, a lot is happening and I will be able to give you more details in due course when things hopefully settle.
</blockquote>
His brother, Innocent Gumbura said they got a call from prison officials the night before his brother’s death asking them to bring some medication for him. 
When they delivered the items the following morning, he was already dead. He added that authorities should have told them in time that he was not well or “at least allowed us to conduct a postmortem to ascertain the cause of death.”

Innocent added that all of his brother’s widows have vowed not to marry again. He said:

It is us the siblings who seem worried, but the wives are fine, they are united and they stand together as they have always done. They have vowed that they are not going anywhere.

His firstborn is 38-years-old, while the last is aged eight.
The total number of assets is yet to be ascertained but includes 11 houses, several church buildings, a mine, a farm and a fleet of more than 20 vehicles. Nothing has been distributed yet.
In an earlier interview with the Sunday Mail, Gumbura had said he did not mind if his wives remarried since he was going to leave prison as an old man. 
The interview was conducted before his jail term was slashed.

Robert Gumbura's 11 Widows Vow Not To Marry Again

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Martin_Gumbura">Jailed Robert Martin Gumbura</a> Friday graduated with a certificate in Peace Education. Gumbura was, however, awarded the certificate in absentia since he was attending a routine court appearance on fresh charges that arose during his incarceration.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service Deputy Commissioner-General Social Ndanga said the detention was not a barrier. Added Ndanga:
<blockquote>_Today’s graduation comprised 18 inmates and two officers who commenced their training lessons in February when the programme was launched._
_Among the graduands, there are prisoners under a death sentence and this is a clear testimony that being behind bars is not the end of the world hence I encourage other inmates to follow suit and take advantage of such opportunities._
_The decision to start with Chikurubi Maximum Prison was reached upon realisation of the nature of inmates that are kept here and also it was noted that indoor rehabilitation activities are minimal._
_The Peace Education Program (PEP) was also introduced at Ntabazinduna training school during the same month targeting recruited correctional officers who are undergoing training with the view of equipping them with the requisite skills in the reformation and transformation drive._
_We have adopted PEP as a psychosocial support, moral rehabilitation and behavioural change programme which facilitates change through supporting inmates to understand personal peace and become aware of inner resources essential for behavioural transformation._</blockquote>
He said the program instantly produced positive results especially on the group of inmates regarded as dangerous by society but had the courage to embark on a journey of individual self-discovery.
Gumbura, 63, was convicted on four counts of rape in 2014 and one of possession of pornography and was sentenced to 50 years for rape but 10 years were conditionally suspended.
The polygamous RMG Independent End Time Message preacher appealed against the remaining effective 40 years and High Court judges Charles Hungwe and Edith Mushore, replaced the sentence with 25 years, five of which were suspended for good behaviour.
Gumbura’s lawyer Lovemore Madhuku said his client has served about half of the 20 years, already, “so considering how the authorities count the years, he’s left with about five years and will be out of jail.”

Disgraced former leader of RMG Independent End Time Message, Robert Martin Gumbura who was convicted of rape a has expressed hope that he will be released because he is innocent. He is serving a 40-year sentence at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison.
Speaking to the Standard during a prison family visit Gumbura said:
