A mother and daughter are embroiled in a bitter feud after the mother allegedly entered a relationship with her daughter’s husband, reported <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/mum-snatches-her-pregnant-daughters-husband-lovebirds-retreat-to-the-rural-areas/">H-Metro</a>.
The dispute, which has now reached the Harare Civil Court, centers around Ethel Mupoperi, who is accused of having an affair with her daughter Munyaradzi’s husband while Munyaradzi was pregnant.
Munyaradzi, who is the only child of Ethel, has expressed her deep anger and says she will never forgive her mother for what she describes as an unforgivable betrayal.
Ethel is said to have established a with her daughter’s husband in the rural areas. Munyaradzi said:

She snatched my husband while I was pregnant, and they started a new life in the rural areas.
When they left me, I started building on a stand bought by my husband, which she is now claiming ownership.
Since she snatched my man, we are now co-wives, and everything has double ownership of.
She has to suffer the same way l suffered when she took my husband away.
Ndizvo zvavakada saka titori pachipari (They wanted it that way, so we’re in a polygamus marriage).

Ethel Mupoperi testified in court that she has endured emotional and verbal abuse from her daughter, Munyaradzi.
She accused her daughter of being disrespectful and using various forms of abuse to make her pay for past actions.
Ethel also claimed that her daughter had demanded she leave her matrimonial home, claiming the house belonged to her as the rightful heir. She said:

My daughter asked me to leave my matrimonial home, claiming that she is the heir to the house.
She has been hurling insults at me accusing me of snatching her husband. She is my only child, but she doesn’t treat me with respect.
I own the property which she is claiming to be hers. I want her actions to be reprimanded by the courts and that she maintains peace while addressing me.

Magistrate Meenal Naratom granted Ethel Mupoperi’s request for a peace order against her daughter, Munyaradzi.

Mother Allegedly Steals Pregnant Daughter’s Husband

Tsungai Makumbe, a Member of Parliament from ZANU PF, has filed a legal case against his estranged partner, Ludia Makuvure, alleging damage to his reputation and unspecified threats, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200024707/zanu-pf-mp-drags-lover-to-court">NewsDay</a>.
In court, before magistrate Johanna Mukwesha, it was revealed that the relationship between the two deteriorated when the Mazowe North legislator requested a paternity test for their minor child.
Makumbe sought a protection order against his ex-partner, claiming she harassed him at his workplace at the ZANU PF headquarters.
Additionally, she allegedly spread negative information about him while visiting Parliament.
The legislator also requested that the court prevent the respondent from contacting members of his church, Johane Masowe Chishanu in Marimba, where she supposedly fabricated rumours of a non-existent romantic involvement. Said Makumbe:

She calls almost every male member of my church and lies to them that I am bedding their wives and threatens my female churchmates, dragging my name into the mud since I am a leader at the church.
</blockquote>
Makumbe argued in court that the respondent had no legitimate reason to visit the ZANU PF headquarters, as she neither worked there nor conducted any business on the party’s premises. Her sole association was as a party member.
Makuvure, in opposition, accused Makumbe of falsehoods before the court. She alleged that he had infected her with HIV and subsequently demanded paternity tests for their minor child.
She asserted her affiliation with Forever Associate Zimbabwe, a shadow organization linked to ZANU PF, emphasizing her unquestionable right to be present at the national party headquarters for meetings.
Makuvure informed the court that she did not object to Makumbe’s request for a paternity test.
However, she requested that the court also order him to provide maintenance for the minor child.
Magistrate Mukwesha granted Makumbe’s application for a protection order against the respondent.
In Zimbabwe, paternity disputes often arise in legal settings related to child maintenance.
In such cases, a parent (or alleged parent) may dispute paternity, claiming they are not the biological father of the child.
DNA testing is commonly used to establish paternity, although it can be relatively expensive.

ZANU PF MP Granted Protection Order Against Estranged Lover

A Harare man was dragged to the civil court last week by his wife who accused him of emotionally and physically abusing her for failing to give birth to a boy.
The woman, Jessica Mapfidza, approached the courts seeking a protection order against her husband of 14 years, Paul Musakuro.
Mapfidza on Monday told magistrate Tamara Chibindi that her husband was abusive. She said:

He has repeatedly threatened to kill me and assaulted me because he is bitter that I have failed to conceive a male child.
</blockquote>
Mapfidza also alleged that Musakuro had resorted to having many girlfriends in his search for a baby boy.
She said that as a result, she has suffered stillbirths because of stress. Said Mapfidza:
<blockquote>
I have two children with him, both girls. I have had three stillbirths which all happened in my quest of trying to give him a male child.
Your worship, he has been telling his relatives that I want to kill him, which are all lies.
All his relatives now see me as a bad person because of the lies that he has been spreading.
When he comes home, he has now developed a tendency of sleeping at the gate.
When I confronted him about why he was doing so, he responded by saying that he wanted something bad to happen to him so that his relatives would blame me for his death.

In response, Musakuro said they have tried to resolve the problem but that had failed “because it is spiritual.”
Chibindi duly granted Mapfidza a protection order against her husband.
In Zimbabwe, there is a longstanding tradition of desiring male children.
This is often due to cultural and societal beliefs that place a higher value on male children.
They are seen as the ones to carry on the family name and lineage, inherit property, and provide for their parents in old age.
This can, however, lead to gender-based discrimination against female children, including neglect, limited access to education and healthcare, and even infanticide in extreme cases.
Last month, Emelda Marizani, a woman from Chivhu who killed all her four daughters in cold blood in 2020 was sentenced to four life terms life by High Court judge Justice Munamato Mutevedzi.
Marizani who was pregnant with her fifth child at the time the crime was committed, murdered all her four daughters to “hurt” her husband Lameck Brande.
Brande’s alleged girlfriend, Chelsea Bepete reportedly told Marizani that she was no longer loved because she was failing to bear a son.
