The Harare City Council has demolished a house belonging to Prophet Tapiwa Freddy and five others this Thursday, 28 September.
Freddy is a pastor/prophet, founder and leader of Goodness and Mercy Ministries, a prosperity church based in Harare.
Harare deputy mayor Cllr Kudzai Kadzombe said the demolition was in response to a petition by residents who said the houses were allocated by the council without doing due diligence on a road in 2017.
Posting on X, Kadzombe also said the City of Harare will allocate new stands to the affected residents as well as construct houses for them, with council covering all expenses including sourcing building materials. She said:

We have received inquiries about why Prophet T Freddy’s house and 5 others were demolished today. This was a result of a residents’ petition as these houses were allocated by council without doing due diligence on a road in 2017 and it blocked school children and other residents, Who had to use a longer and dangerous route to go to school and work etc.
The affected families are in the process of being reallocated new stands and their houses constructed and materials supplied by the City of Harare builders at no cost to the victims.
Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused to the Glenview community and the affected families.

Kadzombe, however, did not disclose where the demolished houses were located. Harare City Council has, in the past few years, been destroying houses and structures built on land acquired illegally.
In April 2020, the Harare City Council demolished Freddy’s church in Glenview high-density suburb, saying it was built on land acquired illegally.

Prophet T Freddy's House Demolished By Harare City Council

Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) presenter, Rutendo Makuti, who was being accused of extorting Goodness and Mercy Ministries leader and founder Tapiwa Freddy, has been acquitted, reported <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/zbc-presenter-acquitted-of-extortion-prophet-freddy-surrenders-benz/">H-Metro</a>.
Makuti was being charged together with his uncle Chief Chikwaka, born Witness Bungu, Mutetepi Maushe and Gibson Jaji who were both police officers when the alleged crime was committed.
She was acquitted after Freddy tendered a withdrawal affidavit before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda.
Freddy said the parties had reached an amicable settlement on the matter. In the affidavit, the cleric said:
<blockquote>
I withdraw after plea the charges against all the accused persons freely, voluntarily, without any undue influence or duress having been exerted on me, without admission of any wrongdoing on my part and without prejudice to any defence the accused persons may have had on the merits.
</blockquote>
Freddy said he had agreed to allow Makuti to keep his Mercedes Benz vehicle which had formed the basis of the extortion allegations. He said:

I withdraw the present complaint with the consent of the State, after plea, and that:
<ul>
<li>I do not object to a verdict of ‘not guilty and acquitted’ being entered.</li>
<li>I will cause the vehicle, forming the basis of the charges, namely a Mercedes Benz, black in colour, to be released into Rutendo Makuti’s custody to deal with the same as she pleases, I undertake to all such things and execute all such documents as are prescribed by law or custom to give effect to the foregoing.</li>
<li>I undertake that I will maintain peace and civility towards the accused persons and will not speak ill, prejudicially or negatively about the accused persons regarding this matter on social media, mainstream print media or any of the platforms where it’s likely that the same will be published.</li>
</ul>
</blockquote>
Allegations were that Makuti, Bungu, Maushe, and Jaji had connived to extort Freddy of his Mercedes Benz in order to conceal rape allegations against him.
Freddy was tried and acquitted in February 2022 of the rape allegations that had been raised by Makuti.

ZBC Presenter Acquitted Of Extortion, To Keep T. Freddy's Mercedes Benz

Zimdancehall chanter Shinsoman, born Tinashe Romeo Anthony, said that he is not happy with self-proclaimed prophet and gospel musician T Freddy using his song in a church service without permission.
Video trending on various social media platforms shows T Freddy and his congregation dancing to Shinsoman’s song, “Hativasiye Vane Nyota” during a church service. Said Shinsoman:

I am not happy at all. T Freddy, who is a musician himself, is supposed to know and respect copyright laws.
He should have approached me and done what was supposed to be done.
I nearly took legal action against him for using my song without my permission. He should have paid for using that track.
I then contacted him and we made peace. I forgave him and decided against suing him.
This should serve as a stern warning to those who are not respecting copyright laws.
I don’t want anyone to use my songs without my permission.
Next time, I will not be as forgiving as I did with T Freddy.

According to <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/shinsoman-warns-prophet-t-freddy">The Sunday Mail</a>, this is not the first time that local musicians have clashed over the use of songs without permission.
Gospel musician Charles Charamba, at one time, was furious after “King Shaddy” used some lyrics from his hit song “Machira Chete” without permission.

Shinsoman Warns Tapiwa Freddy

The founder and leader of Goodness and Mercy Ministries, Tapiwa Freddy, was back in court on Monday, 7 November in a matter he is accusing his ex-girlfriend, Rutendo Makuti, of extortion.
Makuti, a radio presenter, Chief Chikwaka (born Witness Bungu) and Gibson Jaji appeared before Harare magistrate Tafadzwa Miti, who remanded the matter to December 12.
Makuti on Monday filed an application for referral to the Constitutional Court.
In her application for referral, Makuti, told the court that the factual matrix of the application is that she reported Freddy for rape, in which her co-accused testified as witnesses.
She stated that Freddy had the opportunity to cross-examine her on the extortion charges that she is now facing.
It was alleged that the accused (Makuti, Bungu and Jaji) wanted Freddy to pay for allegedly raping Mukati.
Freddy then reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the three suspects.
Freddy was tried for the alleged rape of Makuti and found not guilty in February this year.
In acquitting Freddy, Harare Regional Magistrate Gloria Takundwa said the State failed to prove its case against him after there were several inconsistencies in the testimony of the complainant.
Takundwa said the complainant departed from her material evidence which she gave to the police in her recorded statement.

Tapiwa Freddy Back In Court As He Accuses Ex-lover Of Extortion

The founder and leader of Goodness and Mercy Ministries, Tapiwa Freddy, has been acquitted of rape and physical abuse charges he was facing.
Freddy, a self-proclaimed prophet, was declared NOT guilty by Harare Regional Magistrate Gloria Takundwa.
In her ruling, Takundwa said the State failed to prove its case against Freddy after there were several inconsistencies in the testimony of the complainant.
Takundwa said the complainant departed from her material evidence which she gave to the police in her recorded statement.
The magistrate added that the complainant changed her story when giving evidence in court, while her aunt denied having been told of the second alleged rape.
Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com in a subsequent interview, Freddy’s lawyer, Jivas Mudimu, said that the whole case was flawed from the beginning. He said:
<blockquote>
It was clear that there was no rape. It was clear from the word go that Freddy never raped the complainant and never physically abused her.
It was blackmailing and we are happy today that fair enough justice prevailed.
</blockquote>
Freddy had been facing charges of raping and physically abusing a 33-year radio presenter who is physically challenged.

Tapiwa Freddy Not Guilty Of Rape, Court Rules

Chief Chikwaka on Wednesday testified in the case in which Harare-based preacher, Tapiwa Freddy, is being accused of raping ZBC presenter Rutendo Makuti.
The traditional leader said Makuti failed to substantiate the claims when she initially reported the matter to him.
Chief Chikwaka, who was cross-examined by T Freddy’s lawyers, Everson Chatambudza and Jivas Mudimu, said Rutendo gave conflicting statements on the alleged rape case.
He said Makuti reported the matter to him in November 2020 in the morning whereas earlier reports show he said the case was reported a month earlier.
Queried on why they did not report the matter to the police, Chikwaka said Makuti later told him that the two were in love. He said:

I called her asking if she had reported the matter to the police and she said no because they were already in love and it did not make any sense to me.
</blockquote>
<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/11/15/chief-chikwaka-speaks-on-t-freddy-sisi-ruru-rape-extortion-case/">Chikwaka’s version of events in court was different from the one he told a local online publication</a> and it was also different from the one he wrote in his warned and cautioned statement.
He said the court cannot rely on his online media version of events as he was overwhelmed by emotions.
Chief Chikwaka also admitted that both Freddy and Makuti are not from his area and he had no jurisdiction to preside over the matter as a chief adding that he called Freddy to his homestead his capacity as Makuti’s uncle.
Freddy then argued that Chief Chikwaka abused his office by conducting a “kangaroo” court.
Magistrate Gloria Takundwa rolled over the matter to 24 January for trial continuation.

Chief Chikwaka Makes U-turn In T. Freddy Rape Case

Rape-charged cleric Tapiwa Freddy claimed Friday that his accuser, a ZBC radio presenter, got angry with him after he ended their relationship.
This emerged as the rape trial continued before Harare magistrate Gloria Takundwa.
Defence lawyer, Everson Chatambudza, claimed the presenter, Rutendo Makuti, became angry after Freddy ended their relationship. He said during cross-examination:

The accused decided to terminate his relationship with you because he found out that you were cheating on him with (ZBC boss) and another musician.
Is that correct?
</blockquote>
Makuti denied the allegation.
Challenged on why she reported the alleged rape a year later and after she had been arrested for extorting the cleric, Makuti said she was traumatised by the vile attack and did not know what to do. She said:
<blockquote>
I was a moving grave because of the accused.
</blockquote>
Chatambudza insisted that Makuti only reported the matter because of the changed circumstances adding that she used the rape allegations to blackmail Freddy.
Makuti rejected the claim saying she could not have scared such a big man. Makuti also denied that she was the person in the audio that was played in court in which a woman alleged to be her declared her love for Freddy. The woman in the audio said:

I felt so much hatred such that I never wanted to see you again. Whatever happened was out of love but my love turned into hurt.

T Freddy Rape Case: "I Was A Moving Grave Because Of Freddy" - Makuti

The rape trial of Harare-based pastor, Tapiwa Freddy, has been set for the 6th of January 2022.
The founder and leader of Goodness and Mercy Ministries appeared in court for his routine remand this Monday.
Prosecutors told the court that they are prepared to commence the trial on the 6th of January 2022 after carrying out further investigations.
Freddy (39), is facing allegations of raping a 33-year-old Harare woman on several occasions.
The self-styled prophet was arrested last month on allegations of raping the woman after promising to assist her with the upkeep of her child.
The court heard that three months after the death of the complainant’s husband in 2020, Freddy proposed love to the woman but she spurned her advances as she was still mourning her husband as per traditional protocols.
Some time in November 2020, Freddy reportedly visited the complainant’s rural home to see her child.
On his return, Freddy allegedly raped the complainant and instructed her to consider him as her new husband, threatening to cast a spell over her if she resisted.
Prosecutors further alleged that sometime in August this year, Freddy took her victim to Moja Shopping Centre in Mbare.
He reportedly physically abused the woman, who is physically challenged and nearly overran her following a heated argument.

Tapiwa Freddy Trial Set For January 2022

A police officer investigating a matter where a ZBC presenter is accused of extorting prominent preacher Tapiwa Freddy has been accused of unlawfully seizing her mobile phone.
In a letter addressed to one Assistant Inspector Mushurwa dated November 25, Rutendo Makuti’s lawyer Diana Kawenda said police officers, who arrested her on November 11 took her mobile phone without a court order. Kwenda wrote:
<blockquote>
We note that there is no court order that was obtained by yourselves to conduct the search…
The digital evidence that is contained in that phone is tremendously personal to the extent that it called for the need to obtain a search warrant.

Makuti stands accused of extorting US$35 000 from the controversial cleric known as Prophet T Freddy.
She appeared before magistrate Sheunesu Matova who granted her $5 000 bail.

He was arrested on allegations of raping the disabled radio presenter after promising to assist her with the upkeep of her child.
