A local self-styled prophet, Evidence Chari of the Grace Family International Church was confronted by another church leader in front of his congregation for allegedly duping her of her vehicle and crashing it beyond repair in a road traffic accident in South Africa.
According to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/prophet-and-prophetess-clash-in-church/">H-Metro</a>, Hadassah Caroline, a self-styled prophetess, confronted Chari during a service at his church on Friday dubbed “Record Breaking Friday”.
Hadassah, the founder of a women’s prayer group, Munamato weMudzimai, was accompanied by hired bouncers when she confronted Chari.
She demanded her vehicle as Chari’s bemused congregants looked on. She shouted:

Prophet what I want is my car only. Why did you block me; is that your character?
You are not ashamed to stand in front of this congregation to preach when you are a crook? Ityai Mwari prophet, musavemunyengeri.
</blockquote>
Chari’s bouncers held back Hadassah as his church members started to get involved in the altercation. Chari shouted back at Hadassah:

Ndinokunyudza wazvinzwa, ndinonzi Evidence ini. Ndinokurovai mese, pachechi pangu pamuri pano apa.
</blockquote>
Chari, however, later begged Hadassah for forgiveness for disappearing with her vehicle.
Eventually, Chari was escorted to a getaway vehicle by his bouncers, and he pleaded with the driver to allow Caroline and her parents into the car for a private meeting for reconciliation.
The two reportedly agreed to settle their differences on Monday (15 January) in Mvuma where Hadassah’s parents live.
In recent years, countless pastors have emerged in Zimbabwe claiming to be prophets and prophetesses, invariably preaching the Prosperity Gospel.
Prosperity Gospel preachers claim that faith, positive speech, and donations to religious causes will increase one’s material wealth.
Given Zimbabwe’s perennial socio-economic challenges, the Prosperity Gospel has been embraced by many Christians as a gateway to a life of abundance.
However, Prosperity Gospel preachers have been accused of manipulating congregants into contributing money towards the church for their selfish benefits, by promising them huge rewards for tithing and giving offerings.

Prophetess, Prophet Clash In Front Of Congregants

A gang armed with pistols and machetes reportedly stormed a Bulawayo-based self-proclaimed prophet (madzibaba)’s church service, forcing him to flee for his life.
According to <a href="https://www.bmetro.co.zw/armed-gang-disrupts-church-service/">B-Metro</a>, the incident occurred on Sunday last week in West Nicholson, Matabeleland South province.
Archbishop Emmanuel Mutumwa leader of the Johanne Masowe eChishanu was ministering to his congregants when he was confronted by the eight-member gang.
The assailants are believed to have been friends of a gold miner from Gwanda who recently died in a road accident on his way to Bulawayo.
They stormed the shrine and tried to attack Archbishop Mutumwa as revenge after he allegedly prophesied the gold miner’s death.
At around 5 PM, the assailants approached Archbishop Mutumwa and ordered him to end the service saying he should follow them.
B-Metro reported a source as saying the assailants told Mutumwa that they did not want the members of the church to be caught in the crossfire.
When some members of the congregation asked why they were being asked to leave early, one of the gang members allegedly drew a gun from behind and pointed it at Archbishop Mutumwa’s face before other gang members ran to their vehicles to get machetes.
Archbishop Mutumwa then jumped into his car and drove off at high speed while his assailants pursued him for about 30 kilometres.
At one point, the gang members allegedly tried to force Archbishop Mutumwa to drive into a bridge, pointing a gun at him the whole time.
The source, who is a senior member of the church who witnessed the incident, was quoted as saying:

He was (Archbishop Mutumwa) chased by the gang for about 30 kilometres along the Gwanda-Beitbridge highway.
He later sought help from police officers and soldiers manning a roadblock near Makhado Business Centre.
He narrated his ordeal to them and they later sought help from police officers from Gwanda Town who later escorted him to Bulawayo.
Archbishop Mutumwa is now living in fear of being harmed by the suspects after they vowed to kill him.
The suspects also harassed some church members accusing them of supporting the prophet. He went into hiding soon after he reported the matter to the police.

Archbishop Mutumwa later told B-Metro that he reported the matter to the Police and said that he was glad that no one was injured in the incident. He said:

It is true that a gang armed with pistols and machetes stormed and disrupted my church service while threatening to shoot me and later attacked church members with machetes.
They chased me for about 30 kilometres while trying to shoot me. They only retreated after they failed to catch up with me…
Violence is never the answer, and we should all respect each other’s beliefs and opinions.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Matabeleland South Province Inspector Loveness Mangena said she had not yet received the report of the incident.

Armed Gang Storm Madzibaba's Shrine Over Death Prophecy

Police in Harare have launched a manhunt for a self-proclaimed prophet who allegedly drugged and raped a 23-year-old woman who had sought spiritual deliverance at his shrine in Whitecliffe.
The woman had failed to conceive and decided to visit Madzibaba Tarisai Mangwiro’s shrine seeking spiritual healing.
It is alleged that when she arrived at his shrine, the prophet told her that there was an evil object lodged in her uterus, which was preventing her from conceiving.
It is further alleged that Madzibaba Tarisai gave the woman something to drink, claiming that the evil object will move from the uterus to her breasts, and there was a need to remove it.
The woman drank the substance and became unconscious. When she later regained consciousness, she realised that she had been raped.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/fake-healer-rapes-woman-on-the-run/">H-Metro</a>. He said:

The complainant was persuaded to drink a substance which made her unconscious and he raped her.
She did not immediately disclose the rape, but it haunted her until she decided to report the case to the police.
</blockquote>
Fake prophets usually take advantage of women who would have visited their shrines alone and rape them.
In most cases, the victims would have visited the “prophets” without the consent of their husbands and as a result, they fail to report the abuse to their spouses for fear of being divorced.

Prophet Drugs And Rapes Woman (23) At A Shrine In Harare

Bulawayo-based self-styled prophet, Mduduzi Dube popularly known as Black Elisha is reportedly demanding between US$100 and US$150 for a one-on-one session or consultation fee for an audience with him.
Dube, who is the founder of Christ Life Generation Church defended charging consultation fees, a practice considered by some Christians to be contrary to the teachings of the Bible.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.bmetro.co.zw/storm-over-prophets-one-on-one-charges/">B-Metro</a>, Dube defended the practice saying the money is needed to make the prophet presentable and also to help develop the church and fund the preaching of the Gospel. He said:

Some people can only cope with being broke, they can’t manage with being blessed.
This is because if I bless you, after those consultations or one on one sessions your life will change immediately.
Life is a battleground and if you don’t create a strong atmosphere of prayers through one on one sessions with a man of God, you can’t access certain blessings because the kingdom of darkness is also interested in making those blessings not to get to you.
It’s just like asking why some people are patronising expensive restaurants. One of the reasons is the level of services being offered by those restaurants.
From having bread crumbs dusted off the table to be able to signal the staff with silverware placement to the staff’s knowledge of the dishes.
Presentation and the atmosphere are also some of the reasons. From how the table is set to how the food is placed on the plates. It displays a level of pride and attention to detail.
Likewise, as a true man of God who is blessing and healing people, I should not look wretched as you will take me as a bogus prophet or not have faith in my work.
That money from the consultation fees is used to help develop the church and some is used to preach the word of God and testify His goodness.

Last year, another Bulawayo-based self-proclaimed prophet Bruce Edwards (real name Bruce Ncube), founder of Kingdom Empowerment Centre Church (KEC) also sparked debate after it emerged that he was allegedly demanding a US$20 consultation fee for an audience with him.
Ncube was also reportedly taking US$6 for a seat from congregants who wanted to attend his lunch-hour services.

Zimbabwean "Prophet" Charging US$150 For One-on-one Sessions

An unknown gunman shot and killed three people in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Wedza">Wedza</a> including Officer in Charge Wedza, a local prophet and another person while another police officer is said to be critically injured.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the shooting happened today 13 January 2023 around 1430 hours. Reads the statement:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is urgently appealing for information which may immediately lead to the arrest of a suspect who is driving a Toyota Allion, new shape, white in colour, registration number AFW 7641.
The suspect went to an apostolic sect church gathering in Wedza today at 1430 hours and fatally shot dead a prophet. He then pounced on police officers who had reacted to the shooting and suddenly shot dead Officer in Charge Wedza and another policeman (who is critically injured).
The suspect drove his vehicle and went to Mukamba Business Centre where he shot another person dead and drove away. The suspect is currently on the run and the public is urged to approach him with extreme caution.

Gunman Shoots 4 Killing Officer In Charge Wedza, Prophet And Another Person

A Chitungwiza-based self-proclaimed prophet has divided his church after he abandoned his wife of eighteen years and married a younger woman from his church.
The cleric, Ezekiel Masiyandima (44), of Ebenezer Prophetic Ministries, left his wife Portia Chiwanga (38), for his 21-year-old congregant, Melania Madamombe.
A significant number of congregants are reportedly boycotting church services in protest over Masiyandima’s move.
Masiyandima confirmed to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/prophet-dumps-wife-for-young-blood/">H-Metro</a> that he had married Melania because Portia accused him of dabbling in witchcraft after his visit to the late Nigerian pastor, T.B. Joshua’s church, and the mysterious deaths of three of their children. He said:

It’s true that I have separated with Portia because she has been accusing me of using juju.
Arikunditi ndakaromba zvichitevera rufu rwevana vedu nenzira yaasina kunzwisisa.
She would attack me for my visits to Nigeria to see Prophet TB Joshua and also my last visit to see TB Joshua’s wife.
Her parents misled her into believing white garment prophets and those are the ones who gave falsehoods about the causes of our children’s deaths.
Portia ended up not attending church to engage in cross-border trading, so we are no longer together and she is the one feeding church members with falsehoods.
Yes, I have married one of our church members called Melania saka yanetsa iyoyo.

Portia told the publication that she regretted marrying the man of the cloth, alleging he is a womaniser, abuser, drunkard, and crook. She said:

I endured being the wife of someone who claims to be a prophet. Ezekiel would come home drunk and assault me for no reason.
He would take his time to devise ways to take church members’ money and opened a new Ecocash line for that.
Instead of building my faith in God, Ezekiel hardened my heart and dampened my faith and spirit, and I now regret the years I lived as his wife.
God blessed us with five children, but three of them died mysteriously and I do not rule out his so-called mysterious prayers.
He has turned to younger women and I am told he is now living with one woman he is yet to pay lobola for.
Ezekiel never paid any cent to my parents for lobola for the past 18 years. With five children, you would expect such a person to be a responsible father and prophet.
But he is comfortable finding ways of manipulating church members to help him pay lobola for his new young wife.

"Prophet" (44) Abandons Wife Of 18 Years For Younger Congregant (21)

A <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mabelreign">Mabelreign</a> prophet yesterday tipped the Police about three suspected murderers who had approached him for cleansing, <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/prophet-exposes-suspected-murderers/">H-Metro</a> reported citing national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi. 
The three suspects allegedly stabbed a vendor, Tobias Matiyase, with a knife five times following a dispute over change on Monday night. Tinotenda Zemba (20), Kudzanayi Sala (21) and John Cheutare (age not given) were arrested at the shrine following a tip-off by the unidentified prophet.
What happened:
It is alleged that the suspects bought four cigarettes and bananas from Tobias using a US$1 note.
A misunderstanding arose after Tobias gave them a ZW$ 200 change. Zemba, Sala and Cheutare reportedly demanded $400 change instead.
It’s further alleged that Tobias tried to explain to the trio that their change was $200, but the three suspects responded by stabbing him five times with a knife before running away.
The suspects then went to the unnamed prophet in Mabelreign for cleansing.
The prophet alerted the police while pretending to be conducting a cleansing ceremony, and the trio was arrested at the shrine.
Tobias’ uncle Moses Matiyase, said the death of his nephew caught them unaware and they are deeply pained. He told H-Metro:

For me, it’s like I am still dreaming, I can’t believe it yet that Tobias is gone for good
It’s painful considering the circumstances surrounding his death.
Tobias has been a vendor for more than 15 years and he was someone very quiet.

He said Tobias was not violent adding that they were deeply pained as a family.

Zimbabwean "Prophet" Snitches On Murder Suspects Who Approached Him For Cleansing

A Harare-based self-styled prophet cost some of his football-betting followers their hard-earned cash after making a false prediction of Sunday’s World Cup final result.
Tinashe Michael Sello of Christ Celebration International Ministries told his followers who bet, to place their bet on France.
He claimed before his congregation that France would beat Argentina 1-0 to win the World Cup.
However, Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties after the match had ended 3-3 after extra time.
In a video that has been circulating on social media platforms, Sello, who calls himself “The Ultimate”, said Argentina would play a defensive game.
He added that France would penetrate Argentina’s defensive lines and score before parking the bus to win the final.
It was in fact, France that parked the bus from the onset of the match and had to come from behind twice, first to make it 2-2 and then 3-3 before losing 4-2 during penalties after extra time.
Reports claimed that Sello had closed his church following his wrong prediction and some of his followers were reportedly threatening to withdraw their membership from his church.
When H-Metro called Sello to clarify his false prediction on Monday, his personal assistant, who refused to identify herself, said:

The prophet is in a meeting right now. If you are in Harare, come to church on Saturday, but if you want to see him personally come and pay US$300 for booking at our offices in Southerton.

Self-styled Prophet "Misleads" Congregants After Predicting A France World Cup Victory

A white garment self-styled prophet was recently sentenced to 12 months in prison for caressing his client’s private parts and fondling her breasts during a healing “session.”
Simbarashe Shereni (32) appeared before Mutare magistrate, Prisca Manhibi, charged with indecent assault as defined in Section 67 (1) (a) (i) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.
He pleaded guilty to the charge.
Shereni will, however, serve an effective six-month jail term after six months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
Prosecuting, Mazvita Kadenha, said that on 9 November this year, near Moffat (Moses Mvenge) Hall in Mutare, Shereni unlawfully caressed Christine Munyanyiwa’s (21) private parts and stomach. Said Kadenha:

On November 9, the complainant went to Shereni’s shrine near Moffat Hall to seek spiritual assistance from him.
Shereni ordered the complainant to fetch some firewood to heat some stones for steaming. He covered the complainant with a cloth and steamed her.
After that, Shereni asked the complainant to kneel in front of him. He held the complainant’s skirt and panties and pulled them down.
He caressed the complainant’s lower part of the stomach and her privates.
The accused also fondled the complainant’s breast saying he was casting out the evil spirits in her stomach, breasts and private parts. This was done without her consent.

Shereni said he didn’t mean to abuse the young woman but was helping her to make full progress in her life. He said:

The spirit of God showed me that she had spells (zvitsinga) in her body that were blocking her life from fully progressing. I wanted to help her so that her life would be progressive.
I removed the spells from her breasts, although I didn’t touch them. I simply gave her instructions on what to do.
I then removed a furry and breathing thing from her private parts and threw it in the fire.
I didn’t ask for payment as I am only a servant of God.

He also said when the complainant arrived at the shrine, there were two other clients.

White Garment "Prophet" Fondles Woman (21) During Healing Session

A South African “prophet” exposed a man who raped his stepdaughter when she was 9 years. The prophet made the exposure during a church service.
The 36-year-old stepfather (identified only as Mr X to protect the abused child) from Hercules in Pretoria West, was convicted by Magistrate Johanna Mthimunye of the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on 13 April and was recently sentenced to one life term.
National Prosecution Authority (NPA) Gauteng regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, said:

On Sunday 5 January 2019, the minor and her mother had gone to church. During the service, a pastor of the church prophesied that the child had been sexually assaulted by a 33-year-old male when she was 9 years old.
After church, on their way home, the child confessed to the mother that indeed the stepfather had been sexually assaulting her over a period of a year when the mother had gone to work at night and was left in his care.
The mother confronted Mr X about the allegations made by the child but he denied it.

The following morning, both the mother and stepfather took the child to a doctor at Laudium Hospital where the child was examined.
It was discovered that indeed the child had been sexually assaulted. Said Mahanjana:

After the child spoke to the social workers, police were called and Mr X was arrested at the hospital.
He has been in custody since the NPA successfully opposed bail.
</blockquote>
In court, the stepfather pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Prosecutor Tumi Pongola asked the court to take into consideration the seriousness of the offence and the interest of society when imposing a sentence.
Pongola said Mr X had taken advantage of a 9-year-old girl and threatened her life if she reported the rape.
In delivering her sentence Magistrate Mthimunye agreed with the State, saying Mr X “deserves no other sentence but that of life imprisonment”.

SA Prophet Exposes Pretoria Man Who Habitually Raped Stepdaughter (9)

Waterfall based prophet Madzibaba Benji has been accused of faking a miracle in order to attract more people to his shrine. This comes after the wide circulation of pictures of a man and a woman who supposedly got stuck together while they were cheating. However, according to residents of the area, this was staged in order to boost attendance at Madzibaba Benji’s shrine.
A message which has been circulating on Whatsapp and Facebook reads:

When reached for comment Madzibaba Benji said:
<blockquote>It is a true story, a Waterfalls woman consulted me over her husband and I proved to her by sending my elders to a lodge where her husband was having sex near Park Town.
We tried in vain to reach any media house when it happened and I do not know where they stay or their contact numbers.</blockquote>
One of the residents who spoke to tabloid, H-Metro, said
<blockquote>Our fears are that the people being paid to fake such shameful miracles will end up with hardened hearts and deny that God exists. Members of the public must be careful with such false prophets who are after fame luring them to their shrines for either money or sex.
