Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum Stars secured their first victories in the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, breaking a three-match winless streak. Meanwhile, FC Platinum and Highlanders continued to dominate the top position.
Dembare clinched a narrow 1-0 victory against newcomers Bikita Minerals at Sakubva Stadium, with Kelvin Moyo converting from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute.
This triumph served as an ideal birthday gift for the embattled team head coach, Genesis Mangombe, who celebrated his 41st birthday on that very day.
The Glamour Boys had accumulated a mere two points in the initial three matches, intensifying the pressure on Mangombe. Some fans were already demanding his dismissal.
Ngezi Platinum secured a crucial 1-0 victory against Manica Diamonds, providing relief for coach Takesure Chiragwi, who faces scrutiny from certain executive members.
In the 39th minute, Claude Mapoka found the net for Ngezi, breaking their three-match winless streak and registering their first goal of the season.
Meanwhile, Manica Diamonds’ defeat against Ngezi Platinum Stars intensifies the pressure on Jairos Tapera and his squad, who are still chasing their first win this season.
In Shamva, Simba Bhora secured a 2-0 victory over Hwange, while at Luveve Stadium, Bulawayo Chiefs triumphed 3-1 against Khama Billiat’s Yadah Stars.
FC Platinum continued their unbeaten streak by defeating Herentals 1-0 at Rufaro Stadium, while Highlanders secured a 2-0 victory against TelOne at Bata Stadium.
FC Platinum and Highlanders have now accumulated 10 points each from four games, while Bulawayo Chiefs and Simba Bhora have 7 points each. At the bottom of the log standings, Herentals College and Manica Diamonds have one point apiece.

2024 PSL Matchday 4 Results: Dynamos, Ngezi Finally Win

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Dynamos_Football_Club/">Dynamos</a> received mixed news from the Premier Soccer League regarding their abandoned match against <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Highlanders_Football_Club/">Highlanders</a>. They were awarded maximum points with a 3-0 scoreline, but were also fined US$3,500. The fine was a result of the violent behaviour displayed by some Dynamos fans at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Barbourfields_Stadium/">Barbourfields</a> last month in response to threats from Highlanders supporters.
Highlanders also faced sanctions, with vice-captain Peter Muduhwa receiving a US$500 fine and a four-match suspension, <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/dembare-get-bonus-peter-muduhwa-suspended/">H-Metro</a> reported.
Despite the penalty, Dynamos moved up to fourth place in the standings with 43 points, trailing league leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars by eight points. Highlanders remained in third place with 45 points.
The judgment stated that the match commissioner reported that the violence was initiated by some Highlanders fans who were unhappy with a referee’s decision. Read the judgment in part:

It is also not an issue that the missile throwing and pitch invasion was initiated and instigated by the Highlanders fans who were not happy with the referee’s decision not to award a penalty for what they perceived as a foul on their player in the penalty box.
According to the match commissioner, Mr Kusosa, some Highlanders supporters got on the pitch, threw a few missiles and retreated. Thereafter, those in blue and white also invaded the pitch in retaliation.
However, when those in black and white came back in greater numbers those in blue and white withdrew and ran away as they were outnumbered.
Even those Dynamos fans occupying the Mpilo end of the stadium also ran away.

A group of unruly fans stormed the pitch to protest a decision made by match officials and the match was abandoned. The outnumbered police officers present had to retreat as Highlanders fans threw objects. Following the incident, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/09/14/police-release-names-of-19-barbourfields-stadium-violence-suspects/">19 individuals were arrested</a> in connection with the violence.

Barbourfields Violence: Dynamos Gets 3 Points, Highlanders Punished

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced that 12 people have been arrested over the violence that broke out at Barbourfirelds at the weekend during a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Highlanders and Dynamos.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said full-scale investigations are in progress to account for all suspects who were involved in the violence. Read the statement:

The match had to be abandoned abruptly, with Dynamos leading 2-0. Eight individuals sustained injuries but have since received medical treatment and are in stable condition.

12 Arrested Over Violence At Barbourfields Stadium During Highlanders Vs Dynamos Match

Dynamos Football Club emerged victorious against <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Chicken Inn</a> in <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Premier Soccer League</a> (PSL) matchday 15 held at <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Barbourfields Stadium</a> in Bulawayo, propelling them to the fourth position on the league table. The Glamour Boys team made four changes to their starting 11 from last week. Elvis, Chikona, Denver Mukamba, and Musiiwa were included in the starting lineup. The substitutes for the match included a total of nine players.

EPL, Castle Lager PSL Results And Fixtures

Harare City Council has announced that it has withdrawn sponsorship from Harare City FC and dissolved the executive for misusing funds and personalising the club.
Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume emphasised the council’s intolerance for such actions. He said:

It is not fair and should not be continued. Council will not sponsor any dubious organizations or Football Clubs at the expanse of everyone. This has to stop.

Mafume said Harare City FC chairperson Aloius Masepe and his colleagues breached by-laws by personalizing the club and Mayoral mansion. He suggested a review of the club’s funding model.
Councillor Ngadziore supported Mayor Mafume, calling for an audit of club funds. He also suggested a new board should be elected to replace the current one.
The council-owned side was relegated from the Premier Soccer League last season after exactly 10 years in top-flight football. The Sunshine Boys were relegated together with fellow council side Bulawayo City and prison sides Tenax and WhaWha.
Harare City Council gets money to sponsor Harare City Football Club from the city’s ratepayers and other revenue sources such as taxes, fees, and fines.
Harare City Council has over the years faced criticism over its failure to provide adequate public goods and services, including water supply, waste management, road maintenance, and other essential services. This has resulted in poor living conditions for residents, including water shortages, uncollected garbage, and potholed roads, among other issues.
The council blames the lack of resources for the ineffective execution of duties.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has declared that the sale of alcohol is not allowed at football matches in Zimbabwe. This statement follows a dispute over whether alcohol should be permitted at football games. Some argue that since the sponsor, <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Castle Lager</a>, makes beer, alcohol should be allowed, while others believe that having alcohol at matches may lead to violence. This serves to advise that the sale and consumption of alcohol during Premier Soccer League matches is prohibited. PSL Clubs are currently working to meet the required conditions for the sale of alcohol at the stadia.

PSL Says Sale Of Alcohol Is Not Allowed At Football Matches

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has summoned <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Dynamos_Football_Club">Dynamos Football Club</a> over pitch invasion and missile throwing that took place at Barbourfields last Saturday when the Harare giants played Hwange FC.

Dynamos FC are being charged for breaching Order 31.1.13.1 and 31.1.13.3 of the PSL Rules and Regulations.
The disciplinary proceedings shall take place on Wednesday 5 April 2023 at the PSL offices.

Incidents of pitch invasion and the throwing of missiles during football matches have occurred in Zimbabwe in the past.
One notable pitch invasion incident took place in 2019 during a match between Highlanders and Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium during a PSL match. The match was halted for 15 minutes after fans invaded the pitch and threw missiles, including bottles and stones, at the players. Several people were injured, and the match was later abandoned.
Another incident happened in 2018 during a match between Caps United and Dynamos at the National Sports Stadium. Fans threw missiles at the Caps United goalkeeper, who was hit by a bottle and had to be substituted due to injury.
These incidents are concerning and demonstrate the need for strong measures to prevent such behaviour and ensure the safety of players and spectators during football matches.

PSL Summons Dynamos Over Pitch Invasion

Marcus Mapunhure, a Black Rhinos football player has died after being hit by a car on Friday.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, the Premier Soccer League club announced that Mapunhure, popularly known as ‘Rojo,’ died at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Parirenyatwa_Group_of_Hospitals">Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals</a>. Reads the statement:

The club regrets to announce the passing on of one of our new players, Marcus Mapunhure, popularly known as ‘Rojo’, this morning (18 March 2023) at Parirenyatwa Hospital. He was hit by a car in Harare Central Business District yesterday morning on his way to the training ground. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Black Rhinos lost Simbarashe Nkosi, one of its goalkeepers in January this year. Nkosi passed away during the early hours of Saturday due to a chest infection.
Rojo’s death comes on the day the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/premier-soccer-league-match-day-one-fixtures-and-venues/">2023 Premier Soccer League Season started</a>.
