Police in Bulawayo Metropolitan Province have advised residents to register their houses with them if they intend to travel during this festive period so that the police can constantly monitor the properties to reduce cases of housebreaking during their absence, reported <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/register-properties-if-intending-to-travel-police/">The Sunday News</a>.
Speaking at a Press conference on Thursday, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Bulawayo Province Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said residents can register their houses with the police for free. She said:
<blockquote>
During the festive season many people will be travelling for holidays leaving their homes without anyone to look after or monitor them, we thus encourage the residents to come forward to the police station and register their houses to be guarded by the police during their absence.
The police will be patrolling at the location with the registered houses checking if there are no signs of a break-in.
The registration and patrolling are free and the residents need to register to curb incidents of theft while they are on vacation.
</blockquote>
Assistant Insp Msebele also advised those leaving their homes for the holidays to avoid announcing that they will be away on social media platforms as criminals can view the posts and take advantage of their absence. She said:

Criminals can follow our lives on social media, let us desist from posting our whereabouts and as we go for the holidays, let’s alert our neighbours so that they are aware of our whereabouts and also look out for our homes on our behalf.
</blockquote>
However, the offer by the Police may find few takers as some citizens do not trust police officers, not because they are incompetent but because some of them have been involved in criminal activities.
In recent years, serving security officers have been arrested for violent crimes such as armed robbery and burglary.
For instance, Detective Constable Sinikiwe Ndlovu, a female police officer from the CID Stores in Bulawayo was arrested for her alleged involvement in a Nedbank heist.
The burglars broke into a Nedbank branch in Bulawayo, stealing more than US$270 000 and R2 million.
Ndlovu is suspected of assisting the thieves by providing guidance and communication during the crime.
She allegedly received a Honda Fit vehicle as a reward for her involvement. 
Ndlovu was charged with defeating and obstructing the course of justice.

Police Advise Residents To Register Properties If Intending To Travel

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has said some social media posts allegedly urging members of the public to take part in illegal political gatherings are being investigated.
In a statement released on Thursday, ZRP spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said some individuals are inciting the public to engage in unlawful political activities to disrupt the post-election period that has been peaceful.
Asst Comm Nyathi urged members of the public to ignore such social media messages and report criminal elements to any nearest Police Station. He said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police informs the public that the general security situation in the country is peaceful and conducive for the various economic and social activities to flow.
The Police continues to urge the public to ignore social media messages trying to incite or invite the public to engage in unlawful political activities or gatherings.
The Police is investigating some of the social media postings and will certainly ensure that the law is applied without fear or favour to anyone who agitates or advocate for unlawful activities in the country.
The public should feel free to report at any nearest Police Station criminal elements who intend to disturb the peaceful environment in the country.

On Thursday, there were violent clashes between ZANU PF and CCC supporters in Harare’s Central Business District close to the Town House as newly elected Harare councillors took their oath of office.
The supporters came in to show support for Councillors who are being sworn in.
59 councillors were sworn in – five from Zanu PF and 40 from the CCC. 14 councillors got into council through the women’s quota system, 4 from Zanu PF and 10 from the CCC party.

ZRP Investigating Social Media Messages

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has said videos circulating on social media in which two cars are involved in a street race were not shot recently but are from 2021.
The videos of the drag racing have been circulating on social media platforms in the past few days giving rise to claims that the scenes were from a recent event.
ZRP spokesperson in Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said:
<blockquote>
It’s a video from 2021 and it happened in Mashonaland Central. People should desist from taking everything they see on social media as factual news.
</blockquote>
In the video, a BMW and Mark X race, with onlookers cheering and taking videos.
The second video, in which a number of people are seen lying on the ground with others crying, was shot in Pretoria.
Some people on social media reportedly merged the 2021 video with the second video from South Africa in which a car crashes into a big tree.
City of Tshwane (Pretoria) Emergency Services Department Deputy Chief for Public Information and Media Liaison, Thabo Charles Mabaso released a statement confirming the accident. Said Mabaso:

A driver of a BMW Sedan ran over nine pedestrians, killing three female pedestrians and injuring the other six before crashing into a tree.
The incident occurred at approximately 5.30 PM near a traffic circle on 6th and Koch Street at Salvakop in Pretoria.
Emergency Services arrived on the scene to find multiple patients scattered around the scene with the sedan under a partially collapsed tree.
… Three female children aged about five years were declared dead by paramedics on the scene, while two female patients, of which one is nine months pregnant were transported to Steve Biko Hospital with moderate to serious injuries.
Four other female patients were also transported to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

Viral Video Of Drag Race Is From 2021 - Police

Senior Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers have instructed junior officers to avoid being photographed in situations that display their poverty.
In a leaked internal memo dated 7 May, police chiefs said that officers who are pictured using unconventional forms of transport would be acting irresponsibly.
This comes after police officers have been photographed while riding scotch carts and travelling in Honda fit boots. Read the memo in part:

It has come to the notice of this command that officers are taken pictures whilst commuting in scotch carts, back of trucks laden with vegetables and on top of buses whilst in police uniform. These pictures are broadcast on social media.
</blockquote>
The memo came from “DCG Admin” – believed to refer to Deputy Commissioner General in charge of Administration, Stephen Mutamba.
He warned police officers who are pictured in such situations that they face disciplinary action. The memo read:
May this type of behaviour which is irresponsible be discouraged as it is not in keeping with good taste and propriety.
<blockquote>
Such conduct is some form of gross indiscipline and a breach of the law. Those that will be identified will face disciplinary action.
</blockquote>
The memo was addressed to middle-rank police officers in charge of police stations across the country.
It directed them to “lecture their officers on the proper conduct of uniformed police officers”, adding:

Commanders at all levels should take this warning seriously as it will certainly have implications on their ability to supervise their subordinates.
</blockquote>
Zimbabwe’s police officers are poorly paid and poorly equipped and this forces them to travel in public buses and commuter omnibuses.
At times, they ride on the back of trucks or ask well-wishers for free transport to move from one place to another.

Police Chiefs Instruct Their Juniors Not To Reveal Their Poverty

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday commissioned 82 different vehicles to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
The vehicles that include, 46 single-cab Ford Rangers, 24 Kia Picanto, 9 Kia Rio, 2 Renault kwd and one Renault Logan were commissioned at Morris Depot in Harare.

Speaking during the commissioning of the vehicles, Mnangagwa urged the police to deal decisively with criminals. He said:

Mnangagwa Commissions 82 Police Vehicles

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reiterated its calls to members of the public not to leave their valuables in unattended vehicles.
This comes after thieves broke into a motor vehicle parked at Fortwell wholesalers in Bulawayo on Friday, 5 February 2021 and stole some valuables.
A 21-year-old man parked his Blue Honda fit vehicle and went into a barbershop, leaving the vehicle unattended. Police said in a statement:
<blockquote>Upon return, he discovered that unknown suspects had broken into his vehicle and stole valuables.
Police investigations led to the arrest of four wanted persons in connection with the offence and several other cases plus recovery of drugs which include bronclear bottles, anawar tablets, generic pharm testoviron depots, holistic thistles and many others.</blockquote>
In another development, police said a couple from Inyathi, Bubi District in Matabeleland North died after eating food suspected to have been laced with poison.
The couple, from Dromoland, started vomiting after eating some prepared food on 4 February.
They were rushed to Inyathi District Hospital where they died upon admission.
The husband has been identified as Nite Sibanda aged 52-year-old but his wife’s identity has been withheld.

Don't Leave Valuables In Unattended Vehicles - Police

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has promoted over 5 000 officers to various ranks, in what is considered to be one of the biggest changes in the force in recent history.
Police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the development to the Daily News, saying promotion is part of the job system just like in any organisation to fill vacancies that arise due to various reasons.
Over 1 511 police officers have been elevated to the rank of assistant inspector, while 173 became sergeant majors and 3 945 being promoted to the rank of sergeant.
A radio communication dispatched on November 30 which revealed the latest flurry of promotions was confirmed by Nyathi. It read:
<blockquote>Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, only the top three per each rank per district shall attend the conferment parade, taking cognisance of female representation on a ratio one female to two males.
The rest of the promoted members shall remain at their stations. Police General Headquarters departments shall submit names of members who shall attend the conferment parade to CSO admin using the same ratio per province.
All promoted members shall not put on the new badges of rank until after conferment. Staff officer ordinance shall start issuing out new badges of rank on 01/12/20 guided by this signal.
The commissioner-general of police congratulates you on the attainment of your new ranks.</blockquote>

Over 5 000 Police Officers Promoted

Female police officers manning roadblocks and security checkpoints in Bulawayo have decried the non-availability of ablution facilities.
A female police officer who spoke to NewZimbabwe.com said they are being sexually harassed by their male counterparts while relieving themselves in the bush. The police officer said:
<blockquote>As female police officers, we are having a challenge at the roadblocks. Because of our biological make-up, we are being sexually harassed by our male counterparts while relieving ourselves in the bush.
Sometimes we are forced to wait until nightfall to seek the privacy of darkness to relieve ourselves.</blockquote>
Most of the roadblocks are now considered a ticking health time bomb as the security personnel manning the checkpoints and commuters who have to spend hours queuing at the roadblocks defecate in the open.
Residents who own properties near the roadblocks have urged authorities to address the issue as the areas have now become an eyesore.

Female Police Officers Decry The Non-availability Of Toilets At Roadblocks

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has warned some unscrupulous individuals against using social media to urge security forces to disregard orders from their superiors as they maintain law and order in the country.
In a statement on Tuesday, police said they have noted that individuals spreading the potentially subversive messages online were using foreign numbers to avoid detection. The statement said:
<blockquote>The security services, especially the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the Zimbabwe National Army, Air Force of Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe Prison Correctional Services have noted with concern the recent social media posting urging members to disregard lawful orders, commands and instructions given by their commanders while performing duty.
The unsolicited messages are meant to cause alarm, despondency and divide the security services in the performance of their constitutional responsibilities.
While investigations are in progress, the security services are therefore strongly warning these dubious characters who are even using cell phone numbers with foreign codes to peddle hatred and incite violence among Zimbabweans.
Officers and members are urged to remain resolute and continue to enforce Covid-19 regulations meant to protect Zimbabweans from the deadly pandemic.
At the same time, we urge security members to be exemplary as they conduct their duties and comply with all Covid-19 measures put in place by the government for the health and safety of all.</blockquote>

A memorandum from the Police HQ to police commanders shows the dire economic situation for police officers in the country.
Police commanders are encouraged to be zealous in assisting members where possible especially for transport and accommodation on transfers. Below is the memo in full:

The officers said they earn salaries less than $2 000 a month and the transport costs for each one of them exceed $20 000 and if they are to relocate, Commissioner General of Police Godwin Matanga and the Police Service Commission should provide financial assistance.

Police Commanders Urged To Show Empathy When Addressing Officers' Welfare Issues

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Republic_Police" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)</a> says it is aware of a video that is circulating on social media where some unidentified men were filmed stealing from a vehicle.
In a statement posted on Twitter, ZRP urged motorists to park their motor vehicles in secure places and to avoid leaving valuables inside cars. The statement read:

Police Speak On Video Of Unidentified Men Ransacking A Parked Car

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bulawayo_Central" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Bulawayo Central Police station</a> has no food to feed accused people, forcing them to buy their food or to go hungry for several days.
This was revealed by the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Lawyers_for_Human_Rights" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR)</a> during the trial of 19 Ugandan nationals who were arrested on Sunday along the Bulawayo-<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Victoria_Falls" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Victoria Falls</a> road en route to South Africa for contravening the Immigration Act.
The Ugandans’ lawyer, Nqobani Sithole from the ZLHR said:
<blockquote>Your worship, I want to make it clear that my clients were denied food at the Bulawayo Central police station.
There is no food at the station. The ZLHR has been providing them with food from yesterday (Sunday) until today (Monday).</blockquote>
Bulawayo Magistrate Tinashe Tashaya sentenced the Ugandans to three months in prison.
He, however, wholly suspended the sentence on condition that they are not convicted of a similar offence within the same period.
The magistrate ordered the immediate deportation of the Ugandans.

Police Allow 'Only' FOUR Lawyers To Demonstrate Against Alleged Brutality {Full Text}

Zimbabwe Republic Police officers were attacked in Harare CBD on Friday night by what the police says was a 16 man gang. According to the police at least 3 police officers were beaten up and injured by the gang. The gang is said to have also robbed civilians.
A statement by Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi reads in part:
<blockquote>A group of 16 male adults who are yet to be identified emerged at the corner of Rezende Street and Speke Avenue. One of the gang members started to assault one of the police officers with open hands, whilst the other two officers escaped unhurt and sought refuge at a Harare City Council yard.
A police communication radio was stolen in the process.</blockquote>
The gang later beat 2 other police officers who were on their way home.
When government spokesperson posted an article on the matter on Twitter some Zimbabweans responded that the police themselves have been policing in an appropriate way and that this has put them at risk. <a href="https://twitter.com/xandatoto/status/1198494269834743808">Said one Zandatoto</a>:

Police Officers Attacked In Harare CBD

There was chaos in Harare’s central business district on Thursday as resisted efforts to evict them. The government ordered the eviction of all vendors due to the cholera outbreak which has already claimed at least 32 lives and has been declared a state of emergency by the government. The vendors threw stones at the police who retaliated by using tear gas.

Video: Police Clash With Vendors As Vendors Resist Eviction

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has been accused of fining motorists for fictitious offences. This follows an image which is trending on social media which shows a ZRP Admission of Guilt form where the offence is listed as torn seats.

ZRP allegedly now fining motorists for torn seats

A motorist shared this video in which a Zimbabwe Republic Police traffic officer backed down, after previously threatening to impound his car over a $20 fine. After getting grief from the police officer, the motorist decided to record the interaction. When he asked the officer for a Form 265, which would allow him to pay the fine within 7 days, the officer backed down and just walked away, leaving him to continue with his journey.

Video: Gokwe man arrested for posing as female sex worker

The deputy minister of Home Affairs Obedingwa Mguni said that police officers are not allowed to throw spikes at moving vehicles and said that the government would investigate cases where police endangered the lives of people by throwing spikes. However, the minister stressed that spikes in themselves are not illegal. Mguni said that police are free to use spikes as long as the spikes are used as barriers.
Speaking to the Chronicle Mguni said:
<blockquote>I want the public to know that spikes are part of policing. There are so many people who think they are not. They work as barriers. They assist the police in controlling traffic, they work the same way as drums and traffic cones,
However, police are not allowed to throw them under a moving vehicles</blockquote>

Police are not allowed to throw spikes under moving vehicles: Deputy Min of Home Affairs

In an unfortunate incident a 59 year old Silobela woman died fighting a veld fire in an effort to protect her homestead which was in the path of the fire.
Midlands Police Spokesman Joel Goko said to The Chronicle:
<blockquote>I can confirm that we are investigating a sudden death case whereby Grace Matembedza of Desvirgis Farm, Silobela died on Saturday when she was trying to put out a veld fire which was spreading towards her homestead
