Self-exiled former Information Minister, Professor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jonathan_Moyo">Jonathan Moyo</a> has said <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a> who leads the opposition <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a> is immature and ideologically bankrupt. 
He made the remarks in an interview with News24 during which he stated that he interacted with the former ICT Minister “many times a day, 24/7, between 2018 and early 2022.” He added:

When I challenged Chamisa about [the] duplicitous stance in November 2021, he said no formidable tree makes public its roots.
I told him that his analogy was inappropriate, undemocratic, unprofessional, wrong, and satanic; he mumbled some mumbo jumbo, and I bade him farewell, which later turned out to be for good.

When <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/prof-moyo-says-zim-opposition-mahumbwe-i-interacted-with-chamisa-24-7-between-2018-and-early-2022-ccc-leader-and-his-base-immature-ideologically-bankrupt/">New Zimbabwe</a> asked Moyo about the rationale behind the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/full-text-zhuwao-and-jonathan-moyo-apologise-to-zanu-pf-for-association-with-the-opposition/">public apology</a> he and Patrick Zhuwao recently wrote to the ruling ZANU PF party, he said:

As far as we are concerned the relevant, substantive and meaningful debate on Zimbabwe’s national question and economic prosperity – based on the inclusive values and principles of the country’s liberation struggle and national independence – has remained among and between Zanu PF members. The rest mahumbwe (child’s play).
NC (Nelson Chamisa) and his base publicly proved to be unworthy of the kind of support we gave them.
We now know first-hand that they’re immature, ideologically bankrupt and anti-the nationalist project. They want power just for its own sake, on behalf of their handlers and funders.

Jonathan Moyo Says Chamisa Is Immature And Ideologically Bankrupt

Self-exiled former Tourism Minister, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Walter_Mzembi">Walter Mzembi</a>, says he legally and technically remains a member of the ruling ZANU PF.
Mzembi is among several former senior government officials who skipped the country’s borders in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/November_2017_Military_Coup">2017 following the ouster</a> of the late veteran leader <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a>. 
He said he is part of the ZANU PF leadership despite the party electing new Central Committee and Politburo members at last month’s elective Congress, <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/exiled-former-minister-mzembi-insists-he-is-still-a-zanu-pf-member-and-promises-surprises/">New Zimbabwe</a> reported. Mzembi is cited as saying:

Legally and technically, I am still a Zanu-PF Central Committee member, in party audits my cell location is Rupike township, Masvingo.
I don’t think my standing in the party is urgent business to them, they are focused on elections. It won’t be anytime soon, l am busy with other things too.
I have never recognised my other comrades’ expulsion, it was by all accounts an illegality, null and void to the extent that Zanu-PF did not follow due process or its own Constitution.
In its summary dismissal of party members, only made known to me under duress resulting in loss of office in both party and government, it is only Zanu-PF which can correct its illegality, not the victim.

Mzembi’s remarks come as other self-exiled former ministers, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jonathan_Moyo">Jonathan Moyo</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Patrick_Zhuwao">Patrick Zhuwao</a> have written to ZANU PF <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/full-text-zhuwao-and-jonathan-moyo-apologise-to-zanu-pf-for-association-with-the-opposition/">apologising for their association with the opposition.</a>
Analysts say they could be planning to rejoin the ruling party.

Exiled Former Tourism Minister Mzembi Says He's Still A ZANU PF Member

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Pedzisai_Ruhanya">Pedzisai Ruhanya</a>, a political analyst, has said self-exiled former ministers <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jonathan_Moyo">Jonathan Moyo</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Patrick_Zhuwao">Patrick Zhuwao</a> might be preparing for life after President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a> in the party. 
The two politicians are among several former senior government officials who fled from the country when Mnangagwa ascended to power in 2028. They were opposed to his rise.  
Ruhanya’s remarks come after the duo wrote an open letter to ZANU PF members apologising for using the #ZanuPfMustGo hashtag. Ruhanya said:

If you look at the letter by Moyo and Zhuwao, it was directed to supporters and not Mnangagwa, hence they were not apologising to him. The tradition is that when Zanu-PF people come back, they do so through the party.
So, they are apologising to the party members so they can say that they had problems with certain elements within the party, and not the party itself. It is a post-Mnangagwa re-alignment scheme.
ZANU PF is represented by the president and not party members. So, this is also a post-Mnangagwa realignment plot. Mnangagwa is entering his second term as provided by the national constitution. So, the projection is that they must have a life after Mnangagwa in Zanu-PF.

Ruhanya said the return of disaffected political heavyweights could also signal an attempt by the military to reunite the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Another political analyst, Rashweat Mukundu, told <a href="https://thenewshawks.com/moyo-zhuwao-preparing-for-life-after-mnangagwa-analysts/">The News Hawks</a> that the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) should be wary of its dealings with ZANU PF rebels who leave the party after losing power. He said:

Well, the adage is that there are no permanent friends in politics, but permanent interests. We are seeing a typical behaviour of political prostitution that is informed by political interest. So, the movement of Zhuwao and others back to ZANU PF is not much of a surprise.

Mukundu said the bigwigs booted out of the party are failing to cope with the “new life” which has in the past been sustained by state resources.

Ruhanya Says Jonathan Moyo, Zhuwao Might Be Preparing For Life After Mnangagwa

Self-exiled former ZANU PF Politburo member Jonathan Moyo said he has not yet applied to rejoin ZANU PF.
Last week Moyo and another former ZANU PF member Patrick Zhuwao wrote a joint letter apologising to ZANU PF members for being associated with the #ZanuPFMustGo hashtag.
Speaking during a recent interview with <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200003830/jonathan-moyo-why-we-apologised-to-zanu-pf">The Standard</a>, Moyo said their letter was directed to ZANU PF members and ZANU PF officials, therefore, the issue of rejoining the party does not arise. He said:

The apology letter that Patrick Zhuwao and I wrote to ZANU PF members was not an application to rejoin ZANU PF, it was what the letter says it is, and the contents thereof are self-explanatory.
There’s no need to jump the gun, which made us jump borders in November 2017.
You say that the “party has suggested” that we are welcome to rejoin, but if it is a suggestion as you put it, then it is just that, a suggestion.
I’m not familiar with the politics of suggestions.
The bottom line is that you do not cross any river which is not in front of you.
The joining and re-joining narrative is coming from busybodies, trying to set their own nefarious agendas. Let them stew in their own fat.

Moyo said he was not in any “predicament whatsoever” and if he was in any predicament, he would not blame ZANU PF members for that. He said:
<blockquote>
We have never had any quarrel or fight with ZANU PF members, and we in fact have no reason to wish or want to see the vanishing of their historic and revolutionary movement that liberated Zimbabwe, and a movement with which we ourselves are intimately connected.
Otherwise, as my political opponents, Nelson Chamisa’s supporters can attack my character, drag in my late daughter and do all the kinds of demonisation with ad hominem slurs that they have been unleashing for the better of the year for all they want; but I did not write the letter alone; it’s a joint letter by Cde Zhuwao and me; and the attacks by Nelson Chamisa’s supporters will not deflect our attention from the focus of our apology to ZANU PF members.
The fact is that our apology to all ZANU PF members is noticeably clear, and it stands, we mean it and we will say more about it down the line.

Jonathan Moyo Speaks On Why They Apologised To ZANU PF

ZANU PF says it has not been formally approached by self-exiled former party members Jonathan Moyo and Patrick Zhuwao, and their intentions are not yet clear.
Moyo and Zhuwao jointly penned a letter to ZANU PF members on Tuesday apologising for associating themselves with the hashtag “ZANU PF Must Go”.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/moyo-zhuwaos-intentions-not-yet-clear-zanu-pf">The Sunday Mail</a>, ZANU PF’s acting Secretary for Administration, who is also the party’s Secretary for Finance, Patrick Chinamasa, said that as former members, Moyo and Zhuwao know the party processes to follow if they want to rejoin the party. Said Chinamasa:
<blockquote>
I can confirm that my attention has been drawn to the joint statement purportedly signed by Prof Jonathan Moyo and Patrick Zhuwao dated 15th November 2022 and circulating on social media, and addressed as an open letter to ZANU PF comrades.
My brief comment is, firstly, that is not direct communication with the ZANU PF party or ZANU PF leadership.
Secondly, this is not an application by Prof Jonathan Moyo and Patrick Zhuwao to rejoin ZANU PF.
There is no intention in the statement that they want to rejoin ZANU PF.
</blockquote>
Chinamasa added that it was not clear what the duo intended to achieve by writing the letter. He said:

As you know, Prof Jonathan Moyo and Patrick Zhuwao are among the 26 members of the G40 cabal who were expelled from the party by the ZANU PF Central Committee meeting which met on the 19th of November 2017.
Thirdly, reading through the joint statement, it is not immediately clear what the intention in signing and circulating that statement is.

CCC says it is not focused on the political “theatrics” taking place in ZANU PF in reference to the ruling party welcoming back self-exiled former senior members, Jonathan Moyo and Patrick Zhuwao after they issued a public apology.
Moyo and Zhuwao, who left the country in 2017 following the “military-assisted transition” that ended the late former president Robert Mugabe’s 37-year-rule, apologised to “ZANU PF members” for supporting the Nelson Chamisa-led CCC and calling for the ruling party’s removal from power.
CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the opposition party is not interested in what is happening in ZANU PF and it was solely focused on working on winning the next general elections scheduled for 2023. Said Mahere:

A complete non-event that is wholly irrelevant to the task we have at hand.
Our goal is to win Zimbabwe for change. The continued confusion, grubby deals and theatrics by ZANU PF are of no interest to us whatsoever.
We are preparing to win big in 2023 so we deliver freedom, dignity and prosperity for Zimbabweans.

ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said the ruling party is willing to readmit Moyo and Zhuwao who have lived outside the country since the 2017 military coup.
Moyo, Zhuwao and other G40 members fell out of favour with ZANU PF at the height of factional fights in the party in 2017 which resulted in Mugabe’s ouster.
G40 was a group of ZANU PF politicians that was believed to be working against President Emmerson Mnangagwa of the Lacoste faction succeeding Mugabe as president of Zimbabwe.

CCC Dismisses Moyo, Zhuwao Apology To ZANU PF As "A Complete Non-event"

Zimbabwe’s ruling party, ZANU PF has welcomed <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/full-text-zhuwao-and-jonathan-moyo-apologise-to-zanu-pf-for-association-with-the-opposition/">the apology</a> that was issued by self-exiled former Cabinet ministers, Patrick Zhuwao and Jonathan Moyo.
In a letter seen by Pindula News, the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/full-text-zhuwao-and-jonathan-moyo-apologise-to-zanu-pf-for-association-with-the-opposition/">duo apologised for associating itself with the opposition</a> and championing the #ZanuPFMustGo movement. They say it was an ill-advised decision to endear themselves with the opposition. 
In response, ZANU PF spokesperson, Chris Mutsvangwa said the apology was a “most welcome development.” Reads the response:

Self-exiled former Cabinet Minister, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Patrick_Zhuwao">Patrick Zhuwao</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jonathan_Moyo">Jonathan Moyo</a> have written to the ruling ZANU PF apologising for their association with the opposition. In an open letter seen by Pindula News, the duo said it was ill-advised to be associated with Nelson Chamisa and #ZanuPFMustGo. Reads the letter:

Open Letter to Zanu PF Members
15 November 2022 Dear Zanu PF Comrades, Revolutionary greetings.
Between 2018 and 2020 — on the back of the 15 November 2017 military coup that ousted President Mugabe and his government from power and violently targeted us and other comrades linked with the so-called G40 – we associated ourselves and used the hashtag `Zanu PF Must Go’ (#ZanuPFMustGo), in our public messaging and communication.
Whereas we stopped using the hashtag and disassociated ourselves from it quite some time back, it is our considered judgment that we owe you a long overdue apology for having used the hashtag and for having associated ourselves with it, in the first place.
Accordingly, and on this day of 15 November 2022, we hereby apologise to all of you Comrades most sincerely and with profound regret for our wrong use of – and ill-advised association with – the hashtag `Zanu PF Must Go’ (#ZanuPFMustGo).
While it is common cause that the protracted public differences we had with other leaders in the party and the government became irreconcilable to the point where military force was used to target us with our families, and to overthrow the late former President Robert Mugabe and his government; and whereas that use of military force was unconstitutional and set a dangerous governance precedence in the country and elsewhere across the Continent, we have come to the full realisation and conclusion that those unfortunate developments and their tormenting consequences on us did not — and do not — justify our use of and association with the hashtag `Zanu PF Must Go’ (#ZanuPFMustGo); which clearly targeted not those who had tormented us but also all of you, as members of Zanu PF.
For whatever it is worth, we supported <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a> in the 2018 and well after that but we did not at any time in that process ever seek to join his then MDC-A or his new CCC. As President Mugabe best put it ahead of the 2018 harmonised general election, “there was no one else to support”, given the political dynamics that were at play at the time.
We hoped in vain that Chamisa would break barriers and forge a new platform on which a cross-section of citizens straddling the political divide could converge, based on Zimbabwe’s founding values and principles stipulated in section 3 of Zimbabwe’s Constitution. 
Otherwise, as would be recalled, our concerns prior to 15 November 2017 — and indeed since then as is readily evident from our contributions to open debate in the public domain – revolved around the need to address the following issues:
• The need to do away with entitlement in favour of merit, while recognising the selfless sacrifices of the nationalist leadership of our independence and freedom fighters of the liberation struggle. 
• The need to disassociate Zanu PF from political violence, given the party’s history as the vanguard of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and heroic independence achieved in 1980. 
• The need to eradicate impunity in Zanu PF’s internal workings and structures, our national politics and public affairs in favour of professionalism and accountability.
The need for inclusive party and national politics that eschews ethnicity, racism, regionalism, sexism and ageism.
• The irreversibility of Zimbabwe’s historic land reform and the formulation of comprehensive strategies for its full, efficient and productive utilisation to drive the national economy. 
• The unapologetic pursuit of economic indigenisation and empowerment to transform the material and living conditions of Zimbabweans. 
• The provision of regular and affordable electricity to households, communities, institutions, organisations, commerce and industry. 
• The pursuit of targeted and time-framed industrialisation and modernisation of Zimbabwe through the teaching and application of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM); and the funding of cutting-edge techno-startups, nationally and offshore. 
• The promotion of Zimbabwe’s founding values and principles that are enshrined in section 3 of Zimbabwe’s new Constitution adopted through a national referendum in 2013.
• The holding of free, fair and credible party and national elections.
While we acknowledge that we apparently but unintentionally stepped on some toes when we raised the above-listed issues, or because of the manner we raised them, we believe now as we did before 15 November 2017 that the issues that we listed above are critical to and for our country’s survival and prosperity; and that, as such, these issues are open-ended and are thus best addressed through continuous non-violent discussion and debate. 
As we tender our apology to you Comrades, we do so fully aware that there is no alternative political formation in Zimbabwe that: (a) recognises, values and appreciates the liberation struggle that gave way to the country’s independence, and that (b) is also guided and informed by the genuine patriotic and nationalistic values and principles that shepherded Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.
It is our considered view that Zimbabwe needs political formations that not only subscribe and adhere to the letter and spirit of the 2013 Constitution of Zimbabwe – which emerged from a people-driven process with a 94.5% yes vote in the 2013 referendum — but which also anchored in and driven by the pursuit of Zimbabwe’s pubic and national interests.
In the same vein, we believe that Zimbabwe needs political formations that address the livelihood concerns, needs and requirements of the country’s two critical socio-economic identities, namely (1) new farmers (communal, Al and A2), and (2) vendors in urban centres, growth points and business centres (including civil servants and the few private sector workers). With the foregoing in mind, it is clear for anyone to see that those pushing the #ZanuPFMustGo mantra have no ideological content beyond the hashtag. In our view, the quest to keep or seek power for its on sake is inimical to both the public and national interests.
In the circumstances, our association with the `#ZanuPFMustGo’ hashtag was ill-advised and wrong for the reasons that we have documented herein; and that is why we dropped the use of and association with that hashtag more than a year ago, hence the apology we are happy to tender to you all Zanu PF members.

While it is common cause that the protracted public differences we had with other leaders in the party and the government became irreconcilable to the point where military force was used to target us with our families, and to overthrow the late former President Robert Mugabe and his government; and whereas that use of military force was unconstitutional and set a dangerous governance precedence in the country and elsewhere across the continent, we have come to the full realization and conclusion that those unfortunate developments and their tormenting consequences on us did not – and do not – justify our use of and association with the hashtag ‘Zanu PF Must Go’(#ZanuPFMustGo); which clearly targeted not those who have tormented us but also all of you, as members of Zanu PF.
For whatever it is worth, we supported Nelson Chamisa in the 2018 and well after that but we did not at any time in that process ever seek to join his then MDC-A or his new CCC.
As President Mugabe best put it ahead of the 2018 harmonised general election, ‘there was no one else to support’ given the political dynamics at play at the time.
We hoped in vain that Chamisa would break barriers and forge a new platform on which a cross section of citizens straddling the political divide could converge, based on Zimbabwe’s founding values and principles stipulated in section 3 of Zimbabwe’s constitution.

Mugabe's Nephew, Zhuwao, Jonathan Moyo, Issue Apology To ZANU PF

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is behind a bizarre push to exhume the remains of the late former president Robert Mugabe because he wants to lay his hands on his predecessor’s mystic sceptre, Mugabe’s exiled nephew Patrick Zhuwawo has sensationally claimed.
Speaking during an interview with the SABC on Wednesday from South Africa, where he sought refuge following the 2017 military coup that toppled Mugabe, Zhuwawo claimed Mnangagwa believes the sceptre, or “tsvimbo yaMambo” in the Shona language, was buried alongside Mugabe at Kutama Village in Zvimba.
This comes after Chief Zvimba on Tuesday summoned Mugabe’s widow Grace to a village court on accusations of violating tradition by burying the late former president inside of his rural homestead.
In the summons sent to Grace, the traditional leader said burying Mugabe at his homestead is unheard of in his area and he wants her to rebury the late president at a place designated by the family and his late mother.
Zhuwawo said Mugabe’s widow is not feeling well and is outside the country where she is seeking medical treatment. He said:
<blockquote>He knows very well that Amai Mugabe is not well, she is out of the country, he knows that she is receiving treatment.</blockquote>
He knows very well that she will not be able to attend and yet he sent one of his officers to be the head of the delegation that went to deliver the summons to someone that they know very, very well, will not be available.
<blockquote>… the reason Emmerson Mnangagwa wants to exhume the mortal remains of president Mugabe is that he has been looking for what is referred to as tsvimbo yaMambo/[induku yeNkosi], which is really the sceptre that he believes will give him the authority to be the leader of Zimbabwe.
Emmerson Mnangagwa, in my presence and the presence of my two colleagues, has indicated that he believes that there are 16 traditional leaders who will effectively anoint the person that will be able to effectively govern Zimbabwe and he believes that president Mugabe had that tsvimbo yehuMambo/[induku yobuKhosi] (royal sceptre).</blockquote>
Zhuwawo told the SABC that he has the evidence to corroborate his claims. He said:
<blockquote>I have the evidence of him having spoken to me and to a couple of my colleagues and one of my colleagues is willing to turn around and say ‘look this is what he believes.’
He believes that Zimbabwe, the governance of Zimbabwe is determined by 16 traditional leaders and he believes that it is those traditional leaders who handed a sceptre to president Mugabe, but president Mugabe had indicated to him that no such thing ever happened.</blockquote>
Zhuwawo vowed the Mugabe family will not attend Chief Zvimba’s court saying the traditional leader was promised cars during Mugabe’s funeral.

Mnangagwa Behind Push To Exhume Mugabe, He Wants ‘Mystic Tsvimbo’, Says Zhuwawo

Exiled former Minister of Tourism and Hospitality, Walter Mzembi has denied reports that some of G40 members approached South Africa’s ruling ANC to facilitate their readmission into ZANU PF.
Mzembi’s remarks were in response to claims by ZANU PF’s acting Secretary of Information, Patrick Chinamasa who claimed Monday that former ministers Walter Mzembi, Kasukuwere and Patrick Zhuwao had approached ANC.
Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com in an interview, Mzembi accused Chinamasa of turning a party dispute into a personal one. He added:
<blockquote>ANC delegation will call us for a de-brief when they are done with their quarantine. I have no business responding to Chinamasa on anything let alone his concocted briefings to you guys about a comeback request into Zanu PF. That is a figment of his imagination.
We have never made such a request to ANC both in private or public.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, Kasukuwere who says he remains a ZANU PF card-carrying member last week said himself, “Mzembi and Zhuwao” met the ANC adding that the “deliberations and discussions remain privileged until the process is over.”
G40 kingpins, scattered across the continent, skipped the country’s borders in 2017 as they feared retribution from president Emmerson Mnangagwa whom they had fought in a fearful fight to find a successor to Zimbabwe’s founding leader Robert Mugabe.

"We Have Never Made Such A Request" - G40 Members On Request To Rejoin ZANU PF

Exiled former Zimbabwean Cabinet Minister, Patrick Zhuwao who is also the nephew of the late founding member of the ruling ZANU PF, Robert Mugabe, has joined a long list of people previously aligned to the party to have demanded that it relinquishes or be forced to leave power.

<blockquote>Although Zimbabwe is staring down the barrel of a gun, the country is experiencing the emergence of a truly national movement which transcends political partisan lines calling for ZANU PF to go. The hashtag #ZanupfMustGo has become so viral on Twitter that all progressives forces are using it as a signoff. #ZanupfMustGo was started by Thandekile Moyo, a young Zimbabwean woman with no discernible political links. Moyo cautioned against supporting the November 2017 coup. Why has the hashtag #ZanupfMustGo found so much resonance amongst progressive Zimbabweans including most of my former colleagues in ZANU PF and government?
Zimbabwe is faced with a myriad of political, economic, social and cultural challenges. Although Zimbabwe is blessed with an abundance of natural resources, these resources are being looted and spirited out of the country. Zimbabwe’s biggest resource is its educated people who constantly display tremendous talent, resilience and fortitude. Unfortunately, Zimbabwe’s talent pool has been denied the opportunity to contribute to the country’s development. There is no room for Zimbabweans to assist in correcting the country’s trajectories because the country’s so-called ruling party, ZANU PF, is dysfunctional. Worse still, those in control of the moribund ZANU PF are actively working to disable any viable opposition in Zimbabwe.
ZANU PF no longer exists as a functional political party with a clear ideological position. ZANU PF has been captured by a small cabal of ideologically vacuous kleptomaniacs who stand for nothing beyond securing power for the purpose of self-enrichment. This became so abundantly clear when characters who previously paraded themselves as democracy activists were co-opted into the regime’s structures such as PAC and POLAD. Thankfully some of them are withdrawing. ZANU PF kleptomaniacs operate with a business model which uses the military as an enforcement mechanism for their criminal activities and intentions. ZANU PF has become a parasitic virus that has captured the nation’s military to act as mafia-style enforcers. Most of the people who have remained within ZANU PF are merely being used as a cover to create a veneer of legitimacy; vari kuitiswa.
Furthermore, ZANU PF has effectively destroyed the democratic space by capturing and using state institutions to destabilise opposition political parties. ZANU PF functionaries facilitated the recall of MDC Alliance Members of Parliament by a totally different political party indicating the extent to which ZANU PF will seek to destroy any genuine opposition. ZANU PF will not only tolerate but will promote and support surrogate puppet political parties for the express purpose of hoodwinking the rest of the world into thinking that Zimbabwe has some semblance of multi-party democracy. The political charade labelled POLAD seeks to disillusion Zimbabweans from participating in opposition politics.
It is extremely clear that ZANU PF is now a fully-fledged terrorist organisation which has perfected the use of terror and violence to subjugate Zimbabweans. The massacres of 1st August 2018 and those committed during January and February 2019 were blatantly used to send a message to Zimbabweans that ZANU PF will continue to use the military as an instrument of repression. Even the individual soldiers involved in those atrocities knew and recognized that they were committing crimes and therefore made every effort to hide their identity behind masks.
ZANU PF has become a vampire institution that is sucking the lifeblood out of all Zimbabweans. I feel sorry for a few of my colleagues who, despite being lucky to have been jettisoned from ZANU PF, still feel that they can negotiate themselves back onto the vampire state of ZANU PF. Drunk with dreams of power, they are not aware that the vampires that still remain in ZANU PF will not allow them back. The rot in ZANU PF has become so toxic and gangrenous that the only solution for Zimbabwe is that ZANU PF must go.

Exiled former cabinet Minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Patrick_Zhuwao">Patrick Zhuwao</a> has blasted the president and called him petty and accused him of putting lives at risk, Newsday reports.
Zhuwao who lost his farm after the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/03/04/picture-government-repossess-zhuwaos-farm/">government withdrew his offer letter</a> this week said the government forgets that they had also invested personal funds in their projects.
Said Zhuwao:
<blockquote>Despite the fact that we made personal investments that have significant impact on contributing towards food security, it is sad that Mnangagwa’s pettiness is putting people’s lives at risk of famine
We financed the operations from bank loans which we consistently paid back despite the various disturbances that l encountered. We have over 1 000 overhead sprinkler units which can irrigate 150 hectares.
We also invested in centre pivot irrigation equipment for 187,5 hectares. Due to the continuous requirements for electricity during tobacco curing, we have 230 KVA standby power generation capacities.
We were so successful in terms of quality stock that we won Zimbabwe Agricultural Society prizes for the best beef cow in 2012, second best beef cow in 2016, and second beef bull in 2012.
On the tobacco front, we were amongst the pioneers of hydroponic floating tray technology for tobacco seedling production. We became so competent at this technology that the Tobacco Research Board would regularly visit us to see what innovations we were working on. We even had a technical delegation visit us from Iran to learn about tobacco seedlings production using deep water culture hydroponics.</blockquote>
Zhuwao has been in self-imposed exile in South Africa since the 2017 November coup that ousted his uncle Robert Mugabe from power.

The Ministry of Lands Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement has notified former ZANU PF political commissar Saviour Kasukwere of its intention to take back his farm for “downsizing and replanning purposes.”
The development comes a few weeks after reports suggested that the state was also <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/lands-minister-perrance-shiri-evicts-robert-mugabes-nephew-out-of-his-farm/">taking back the land belonging to Patrick Zhuwao,</a> <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/jonathan-moyo-accuses-mnangagwa-of-being-vengeful-after-he-is-kicked-out-of-farm/">Jonathan Moyo</a> and <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/july-moyo-orders-army-and-zanu-pf-youths-to-invade-and-loot-farm-belonging-to-opposition-leader/">Daniel Shumba</a>, all former ZANU PF members.
This prompted others to conclude that the state is going after former President Mugabe’s allies continue and that land in Zimbabwe is being used <a href="https://twitter.com/PedzisaiRuhanya/status/1219953513184231426">as a political tool and not as a resource for production, economic recovery and growth.</a>

FULL TEXT: Perrance Shiri Moves To Take Kasukuwere's Farm

Former Public Service Minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Patrick_Zhuwao">Patrick Zhuwao</a> is challenging the withdrawal of his offer for his farm in Zvimba, The Herald reports.
<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/lands-minister-perrance-shiri-evicts-robert-mugabes-nephew-out-of-his-farm/">Zhuwao is set to lose his farm</a> after it emerged that he had abandoned the farm since 2011. In the court submissions citing the Agriculture Minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Perrance_Shiri">Perence Shiri</a> as the first respondent, Zhuwao said:
<blockquote>On the 9th of December 2004, I was offered subdivision 1 of Cockington in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zvimba">Zvimba</a> District, in the province of Mashonaland West, which is approximately 232.81 hectares in extent, he said.
The offer was made in terms of the Agricultural Land Resettlement Act (Chapter 20:01). I accepted the offer and a clear contractual agreement between the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Settlement and myself
Despite all the challenges of vandalism of electrical infrastructure and theft, I have been farming to the best of my farm’s potential in the circumstances..
Withdrawing my (offer) letter on the basis of unsubstantiated and spurious allegations without investigating the veracity of such allegations is a gross substantive and procedural irregularity. I
am, therefore, not in breach of any of the terms and conditions attached to the offer. Since I was allocated the plot I have been farming tobacco, cereal crops, sunflower and poultry</blockquote>
The matter is yet to be heard before the courts.

Zhuwao Challenges Farm Eviction

Robert Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao spoke about his relationship with the former president and how he was helped by his uncle after he graduated from college till he became a cabinet minister.
Writing on Facebook Zhuwao penned:
<blockquote>Facebook reminded me about a picture that I posted of President Mugabe and I when he visited my Zhuwao Livestock cattle stand at the Harare Agricultural Show in August 2013. Whilst the recollection initially left me feeling a bit melancholy, I am extremely grateful that President Mugabe introduced me to the transformative and empowering nature of agriculture.
I am very proud that I have remained a firm disciple of President Mugabe’s principled stance despite his ouster during the November 2017 coup. I am also proud of having the honour having served under President Mugabe and receiving his tutelage, mentorship and wise counsel. I boldly describe myself as a “proud Mugabe Minister”. Despite some people unsuccessfully trying to persuade me to downplay my interaction with President Mugabe, I choose to live to the dictates of a quote that President Mugabe has consistently used, “You can never sacrifice principle on the altar of expedience”.
President Mugabe’s belief that agricultural transformation is the route to Africa’s socio-economic transformation has provided me with the inspiration to re-imagine a fulfilling vocation for myself. Viktor Frankl, in his book “Man’s Search for Meaning”, states that “those who have a ‘why’ to live can bear with almost any ‘how'”.
From the time I first graduated from university in 1990, President Mugabe consistently urged me to take up farming. I would listen to him, go away and disregard his advice. I would convince myself that farming was too risky for young professionals like me. With an honours degree in computer systems engineering, an MBA, and the boisterous confidence of a young businessman, I saw agriculture as having too many uncontrollable variables including unpredictable weather.
I find out how wrong I was after I had reluctantly taken up farming. As a ZANU PF member, I felt obligated to practice the party’s land reform mantra; Land is the Economy and the Economy is Land. After obtaining an offer letter for land in August 2002, I secured bank funding to buy tractors, farm implements and irrigation equipment. I was not going to risk resources to the vagaries of the weather.

I finally got to understood why President Mugabe has consistently placed agriculture at the centre of independent Africa’s socio-economic transformation and empowerment. My conversion to agriculture was so complete that the dissertations for two of my master’s degrees have been on agriculture.
For fifteen years, I invested financially and emotionally in agriculture on land allocated to me in Zimbabwe. The November 2017 coup forced me to decide whether to stand with President Mugabe and risk losing those investments. I chose to stand on principle and risk having everything taken away. As Frankl says, “everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s on way”. The 2017 coup denied me access to farm land in Zimbabwe.
Despite my not having access to farming land, President Mugabe has given me an attitude that has allowed me to choose my own way to contribute to agricultural transformation. President Mugabe’s advice for me to take up farming, provided me with a fulfilling vocation for Africa’s socio-economic transformation. Agricultural transformation represents for me what Frankl refers to as the ‘why’ of living. That ‘why’ to live has provided for the ‘how’ to live without sacrificing principle on the altar of expedience. I can focus on my research on how to effect agricultural transformation through digital technologies.
Given how President Mugabe is loyal, generous, empowering and transformative, I cannot image how some of the people that President Mugabe stood by and protected feel about the ignominious way they betrayed him. Apostle Talent Chiwenga says that God is not happy with the manner in which President Mugabe was ousted. <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Talent_Chiwenga">Apostle Chiwenga</a> believes that is why Zimbabwe faces challenges. Patrick Zhuwao, the nephew to the late President Robert Mugabe, says the late president died in exile. Zhuwao was speaking to the SABC in an interview.
Said Zhuwao:
<blockquote>I think the family has taken it pretty hard. We were expecting this but all the same we are saddened. And I think what saddens us the most is that President Mugabe died in exile.
President Mugabe had always said that he was born in Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe is where he would die, and Zimbabwe is where he would be buried.  And it’s rather unfortunate that he was not able to die in Zimbabwe.
And this is within the context of the statements that he made during the November 2017 coup when he said he was not leaving Zimbabwe, he would rather die in Zimbabwe.
And the events that then followed; the abuse that he had to contend with from former colleagues was just too much, he ended up having to go out of the country, so that he would not be able to stomach the betrayal that he was unfortunately subjected to.</blockquote>

Mugabe Died in Exile, Says Nephew, Zhuwao

The Herald reports that President Mnangagwa has assured departed President Mugabe’s family that they will be protected from any undue victimisation emanating from past events during their mourning time. This came to light after the Mugabe family enquired if family members who had left the country or who had gone into self-exile could attend the funeral without any arrest.
The Herald qouted Mr George Charamba who conveyed the President’s message:

Secondly, President Mnangangwa expressed surprise that there were some members of the Mugabe family who had left the country without any indication that they were facing any charges. In any event, if this had been made clear to the President, the Mugabe family would be protected against undue victimisation.
In particular the President could not understand why Patrick Zhuwao had left the country except, possibly, in solidarity with his colleagues, one of whom had in fact been in and out of the country

Former President Robert Mugabe’s nephew, Patrick Zhuwao said that while serving as the Justice Minister, President Emmerson Mnangagwa began the capture of Zimbabwe’s judiciary.
Zhuwawo argued that the process started to manifest itself in 2016 and came to the fore on 21st August 2019 when Justice Chitapi dismissed charges against former cabinet minister Saviour Kasukuwere.
Writing in his latest “Zhuwao Transformation Brief”, Zhuwao said:
<blockquote>The systemic capture of Zimbabwe’s judiciary started manifesting itself in 2016 and came to the fore on 21st August 2019 when Justice Chitapi quashed charges against Honourable Saviour Kasukuwere.
In a rare judgment, Justice Chitapi described how the magistrate in the Kasukuwere case, as a judicial officer, “openly confessed that he was conducting proceedings under pressure from certain persons.
He was therefore not independent and impartial as his duties required him to be.”
Mnangagwa’s shenanigans to control the appointment of the Chief Justice were central to the capture of the judiciary.
Around September 2016, the Mnangagwa led justice ministry stampeded Chief Justice Chidyausiku out of the office into early retirement by in order to manipulate the selection process for the new Chief Justice.
When President Mugabe discovered this, he requested Chief Justice Chidyausiku to come back to work and preside over the process of selecting his successor as required by the Constitution.
However, Misheck Sibanda, through whom Mnangagwa was said to then have captured the Office of the President and Cabinet, attempted and failed to stop the Judicial Services Commission from conducting interviews for the Chief Justice.
When Mnangagwa’s initial attempts to impose a Chief Justice failed, he sought to amend Section 180 of the constitution to take away the provision for public interviews for the Chief Justice, the Deputy Chief Justice and the Judge President.
Unfortunately, the fierce resistance that Professor Jonathan Moyo, Honourable Saviour Kasukuwere and I waged against that constitutional amendment did not prevail.
Zimbabwe now has to contend with an environment where judicial officers are openly confessing to “conducting proceedings under pressure from certain individuals”.
This could be why the patently unconstitutional and illegal deployment of the military during the November 2017 coup was incredulously deemed to be lawful by a High Court Justice.
This could also be why courts are not seeing anything amiss in the police prohibiting constitutionally provided for demonstrations at the eleventh hour.
Judicial officers no longer seem to be as independent and impartial as their duties require them to be. This open letter is to General Chiwenga personally and all the officers and enlisted men and women of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces. For you, General Chiwenga, this is how you may save yourself from the treason that you committed when you led the coup of 15 November 2017. Muri mukoma wangu Mukanya (you are my brother), so I am duty-bound to make one last-ditch effort to save you. To you all other officers and enlisted men and women of the ZDF, you are less culpable than my brother Chiwenga. You have a possible defence that you were carrying out the commander’s orders. However, that defence is tenuous. You also need salvation. You know you actions were treasonous, unconstitutional and unlawful.
President Mugabe is your saviour. He is a complainant and the key principle witness that has saved you and continues to save you all from the crime of treason that you committed when you conducted the coup on 15 November 2017. Even though there is additional overwhelming evidence against you, some of which you continue providing through your own reckless mouths as you talk, for as long as President Mugabe is alive, you will remain safe. President Mugabe remains loyal to you despite you betraying him; he refused to entertain exercising a military option against you.
You also know that Mnangagwa is a snake that will sacrifice you. True to his duplicitous nature, Mnangagwa will offer a defence that he neither participated in the 15 November coup nor was he present in the country. You know Ngwena, the nigger ain’t loyal. He turned on President Mugabe, one of the key people who saved him from being hung by the Smith regime. He will definitely turn on you. Mnangagwa is the true re-incarnation of Judas Iscariot.
President Mugabe, on 15th March 2018, offered to assist in correcting the illegality of the coup when he stated that “we need to undo this disgrace that we have visited upon ourselves”. Mnangagwa spurned that offer wanting all of you to live under constant threat of blackmail. Mnangagwa selfishly wants you to be beholden to him. President-Designate Chamisa will move the nation into Zimbabwe’s 2nd Republic built on the people driven 2013 Constitution of Zimbabwe that was developed and adopted under the joint leadership of President Mugabe and the late Prime Minister Tsvangirai.
President-Designate Chamisa will effect President Mugabe’s offer to “undo the disgrace” of the coup and save you. So, General Chiwenga, as you enter the polling booth, you know in your heart of hearts that your salvation lies in President-Designate Chamisa and President Mugabe. Your foolish and nonsensical strategy of attempting a half-hearted “bhora musango” will not succeed. I am aware that you are working on a run-off so that you will force Mnangagwa out of the leadership of ZANU PF for you to take over the party. Your hope of a GNU that maintains you as Vice President is unattainable.
To the officers and enlisted men and women of the ZDF, Chiwenga has led you astray and continues to keep you complicit in his crime. Chiwenga was so callous that he unfortunately used the funeral of the late mother to General PV Sibanda to tell the world that he planned the coup with General Sibanda. Mnangagwa, like the Judas Iscariot that he, is will abandon you as well. President-Designate Chamisa and President Mugabe are your only true salvation. For you to be saved, all you need to do is to vote for Chamisa to be the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Force.
Your first act of saluting your President-Designate Chamisa starts in the polling booth. Therein lies your salvation.

Vote For Chamisa To Save Yourself: Zhuwao's Open Letter To Chiwenga, Zimbabwe Defence Forces

Before I explain why ZANU PF members and supporters will vote for Chamisa, let me debunk a myth being spread by junta agents who want to falsely accuse the MDC Alliance of ousting President Mugabe. All the five major coup events between 13th and 21st November 2017 were done by Chiwenga and Mnangagwa’s proxies:
1. Chiwenga conducted the press conference on 13th November at KGIV Barracks threatening  president Mugabe about firing Mnangagwa – there was no MDC Alliance there;
2. Chiwenga self-deployed the military on 15th November and put President Mugabe under house arrest – again there was no MDC Alliance involvement; 
3. The march on 18th November was a war veterans programme, not MDC Alliance event even  though they were used (vakaitiswa);
4. The fake ZANU PF Central Committee meeting on 19th November to recall President Mugabe was not done by MDC Alliance; and
5. The forced impeachment on 21st November was only possible with ZANU PF’s two-thirds majority in parliament, once more MDC Alliance was not a factor.
It is obvious that who-ever puts forward a narrative that President Mugabe was ousted by the MDC Alliance marching on 18th November is definitely a junta spy spreading falsehood in order to 
cleanse Mnangagwa.
ZANU PF members and supporters are in four broad categories. The first category, made up of those who left ZANU PF during the 2008 elections with the departure of Dr Simba Makoni and Dr Dumiso Dabengwa, cleared articulated on 15th June 2018 that they will vote for Chamisa when Dr Dabengwa announced that was notgoing to file papers as a Presidential candidate. Dr Dabengwa, as a survivor of torture under Mnangagwa in the 1980s, knows that 
Chamisa represents the best way of stopping Mnangagwa.
The second category is comprised of those who were expelled together with Dr Joice Mujuru. These people are made up of victims of the fake intelligence that was created by Mnangagwa and Chiwenga in 2014. Most of these people, including struggle stalwarts like Comrade Rugare Gumbo (another victim of torture under Mnangagwa in the 1970s), are so painfully aware of how cruel and vindictive Mnangagwa is that they will ensure that he does not get another chance of putting his hands on state power. Even though some of them are humouring Dr Joice Mujuru’s feeble attempt at being President, they know that the only credible way to stop Mnangagwa is to support Chamisa.
The third category of ZANU PF members and supporters are the ones who have remained in ZANU PF in a sad manner reminiscent of how a battered spouse will continue to remain in an abusive relationship for the sake of the children. We saw how they were being brutalised in Bindura for simply attempting to go back to their homes. They are painfully aware that they are enslaved in a ZANU PF captured by the military for the personal benefit of Mnangagwa and Chiwenga. As they chant the EDiotic slogan of “ED Pfee” they secretly and silently add the word “mundove” as they plan to vote for Chamisa so that they can be free from their enslavement. ED Pfee mundove.
The fourth category is of those that have been marginalised and expelled from ZANU PF together with President Mugabe. This category has three groupings, the first of which has accepted that 
ZANU PF is dead and its corpse has been taken over by the military They had put their hopes and faith on NPF but with NPF not having a viable presidential candidate they will vote for Chamisa.
The second grouping of the expelled is still in denial that ZANU PF is dead and are hoping to re-enter a de-militarised ZANU PF. Some of the people that have filed nomination papers as independent candidates are within this second grouping which will vote for Chamisa as a way of ejecting Mnangagwa and Chiwenga and demilitarising ZANU PF.
The third grouping of the fourth category is made up of political prostitutes who had agreed to be used by the junta to destabilise the opposition in the hope of being readmitted to ZANU PF. The 
activities of this grouping, which is in charge of the junta-sponsored NPF’s spoiler operations are described more fully below when I discuss NPF. This very small grouping of schizophrenic political prostitutes has realised that Chamisa is the real deal and are seeking to be accommodated in Chamisa’s government. Chamisa will never, and must never, make the mistake of including these charlatans.
I do not mention NPF members as one of the voting stakeholder groupings that will vote for Chamisa because the NPF is a special case that has been the target of three separate strategies by the junta who have been using the fatal unbridled ambition of certain persons. The sad reality is that there is no NPF as envisaged by the founders when they established it on 7th December 2017. The real NPF exists only in terms of its founding documents and its founding members.
The real NPF does not even have a single member in terms of its Constitution and the  Consultation Points Document distributed in January 2018. This means that so-called NPF members and supporters are within the four categories described above. It is important to note that the junta agents managed to successfully hoodwink people into running as candidates for a fake 
NPF as part of a junta-sponsored spoiler campaign. This fake NPF was created for the specific objective of fielding a presidential candidate to be a junta-sponsored spoiler. The sole purpose and 
existence of this spoiler presidential candidate is to ensure that people who subscribe to the ideals, principles, values and objectives of the real NPF of 7th December 2017 do not vote for Chamisa.
The junta-sponsored NPF’s spoiler presidential candidate has not even bothered to leave his farm and campaign. He does not have a manifesto to explain what he stands for because he stands for nothing except to be a spoiler. The supposed NPF candidates that are meant to be providing him with support at parliamentary and local authority levels have not met him. In essence, several innocent people who think that they are genuine NPF candidates are being dragged along to be delivered as electoral spoilers; varikuroverwa musaga.
However, the electorate has caught onto this trick and chosen to ignore the junta-sponsored NPF’s spoiler presidential candidate in favour of voting for Chamisa as President. As a response to the 
growing popularity of Chamisa, the junta has been attempting to propagate a narrative that falsely accuses Chamisa of seeking to bring back President Mugabe from retirement. It is unfortunate that two of the junta-sponsored NPF’s parliamentary candidates have given interviews to the media lying that NPF has an electoral pact with MDC Alliance. It is impossible that MDC Alliance could enter into any agreement where NPF would provide a Vice President to the nation when that so-called formation of the NPF cannot even name who its party president is, let alone party vice presidents. Whichever way one looks at the various configurations of NPF, there is no way the MDC Alliance can enter into any arrangement with the only political outfit that has the 
deplorable record of not even being able to produce a manifesto, let alone launch an election campaign; forget about launching itself or even registering members.

Why ZANU PF will vote for Chamisa in Zimbabwe’s 2018 Elections

In his latest installment of the Zhuwao Brief Reloaded, Patrick Zhuwao writes an open letter to British Prime Minister Theresa May warning her against supporting Zanu-PF presidential candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa. Zhuwao says Mnangagwa will soil May’s hands with the blood of innocent Zimbabweans.
<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/04/04/britain-will-make-sure-mnangagwa-wins-2018-elections-dabengwa/">Opposition parties have accused the British Government of being biased towards Zanu-PF </a>following Operation Restore Legacy which resulted in Robert Mugabe’s ouster. Zhuwao says Mnangagwa is using “British institutions, such as the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), but also the British government in a nefarious agenda that is aimed at further loss of life.” He argues that Mnangagwa’s BBC interview where he blames a faction loyal to Grace Mugabe is evidence that the President wants to use violence to win the election.
Part of Zhuwao’s open letter to May reads:
<blockquote>It is not lost on Mnangagwa that his interview was aired on 27th June 2018, exactly ten years after the 2008 runoff election. The fact that Mnangagwa attributes blame to a broad group of people on the basis of his hunch without any evidence is an ominous signal to those people that he intends to target them and their communities with violence akin to that of 2008. The use of the BBC to disseminate that ominous message is meant to communicate that, like during the Gukurahundi massacres, Mnangagwa has the unconditional support of the British government. The implication is that your government will turn a blind eye on the abuse of the tragic ZANU PF bomb in Bulawayo to violate human rights in the same way that the British government turned a blind eye on the Gukurahundi massacres.</blockquote>

Mnangagwa Will Soil Your Hands With The Blood Of Innocent Zimbabweans: Zhuwao Warns British Prime Minister Theresa May

The garrulously verbose and ideologically vacuous Chris Mutsvangwa has blamed his loss in the ZANU PF primary elections on everyone except the fact that ZANU PF voters have rejected the 15 November 2017 coup. As the voice of the coup and the most vocal proponent of Emmerson Mnangagwa, Mutsvangwa’s defeat signifies a rejection of Mnangagwa. Whilst Mutsvangwa disingenuously places blame on so-called G40, he needs to recognise that the demographic construct that he refers to as G40 is unconquerable and has registered one of the numerous triumphs that we will be seeing over the next five years.

G40 is unconquerable because it goes beyond the few so-called king-pins who were expelled from ZANU PF. G40 is unconquerable because it is in tune with the demographic reality that 77% of Zimbabwe’s population are young people. G40 is unconquerable because it is the realisation of the demographic dividend that is due out of the investments made in youth by President Mugabe, including in the National Youth Service. G40 is unconquerable because it represents a realignment and dramatic change of the political system.
This realignment and dramatic change in the political system is a political science phenomenon that was referred to by V. O. Key Jr in 1955 as a critical election.
The G40 concept is central to a critical election that would have been completed in the 2023 elections as all the transitional provisions of the Constitution of Zimbabwe would have been fulfilled. These include the suspension of the Presidential running mate provisions in the 6th Schedule and the end of the proportional representation women’s quota of 60 National Assembly members. However, the military coup of 15th November 2017 has hastened matters to the point that the 2018 election will be the critical election. 
The G40 concept has its origins in generational renewal processes in ZANU PF which were started in 2002 after the defeat of the 2000 Draft Constitution and the significant electoral inroads made by the MDC in the 2000 parliamentary elections. The generational renewal processes were initiated by President Robert Mugabe with the resuscitation of the National Youth Service under Youth Minister Border Gezi.
The National Youth Service trained over 80,000 members some of whom were absorbed into the public service as security sector personnel, health professionals, teachers and civil servants. These 80,000 NYS graduates are in all villages and streets in Zimbabwe. Some of the inaugural graduates of this programme include the Edson Chakanyuka, Mike Gava, Kudzi Chipanga, Innocent Hamandishe and others.
The NYS programme was to be strengthened five years later in 2007 when President Mugabe directed the introduction of NYS graduates into mainstream national politics. The directive by President Mugabe for the renewal of the ZANU PF Youth League National Executive was made through the then ZANU PF Secretary for Administration, Honourable Dydmus Mutasa, who gave that task to Comrade Absolom Sikhosana’s executive, which included Saviour Kasukuwere, Tapiwa Zengeni, the late Jabulani Mangena, the late Chiratidzo Gava and myself as the National Director for Youth.
This saw our executive giving way to the Edson Chakanyuka executive which included Kudzi Chipanga, Mike Gava, Innocent Hamandishe, Annastacia Ndlovu, Tabeth Kanengoni and Yeukayi Simbanegavi in 2009; seven years after the start of the NYS. By that time, the 80,000 NYS graduates had become key and critical components in all ZANU PF structures at cell/village, branch, district, District Coordinating Committees, province and national levels throughout the country.
In order to give the proper ideological grounding and context to the generational renewal processes, Professor Jonathan Moyo published an article on the generational dynamics and economic empowerment thrust under the Generation 40 concept. This conceptualisation formed the basis of the ZANU PF 2013 Election Manifesto which was specifically targeting the youth. This complimented the NYS programme initiated in 2002. This manifesto was communicated by ZANU PF officials including the over 80,000 NYS graduates that had become entrenched into all ZANU PF structures through-out Zimbabwe.
Over and above delivering a two thirds parliamentary majority, the 2013 election brought some of the ZANU PF Youth League’s National Executive Committee’s members into Parliament. These included Kudzi Chipanga, Mike Gava, Tabeth Kanengoni, Annastacia Ndlovu, Melody Tionei Dziva and Yeukau Simbanegavi. Apart from the fact that the youngest members of Parliament are from ZANU PF, most local authority councillors are young people from ZANU PF.
Following on those gains for the youth, the Million Man March was conducted on 26th May 2016 to further solidify generational renewal processes in preparation for the 2018 elections. This was a monumental success despite efforts at destabilisation by the Mutsvangwa cabal. The Presidential Youth Interfaces of 2017 built on the Million Man March by firmly asserting the role of the youth in taking the mantle for the complete liberation of Zimbabwe through economic empowerment.
The 80,000 NYS graduates of the early 2000s were on a roll that would see them in their forties as we approached the 2023 election. Generation 40 was on a roll. This frightened the Mutsvangwa cabal and their entitlement allies in the military.
That fear resulted in military tanks and automatic weapons being rolled out on 15th November 2017 in a military coup to stop that generational renewal. The generational renewal was firmly rooted in the ideological underpinning of indigenisation, empowerment, development and employment creation as articulated in the ZANU PF 2013 Manifesto. The coup targeted individuals perceived to be spearheading and supporting this generational renewal including President Mugabe. The military junta has not taken into account the 80,000 NYS graduates who are firm believers of generational renewal and economic empowerment. The military junta has mistakenly sought to expunge the ministry responsible for the youth and economic empowerment.
The military junta has sought to reverse the land reform programme. The military junta is negating the ideological premise that formed the core of the NYS orientation programme.
All of this is being observed by 80,000 NYS graduates who have been thoroughly oriented and trained in the ideologies of self-determination. On top of which, these 80,000 NYS graduates have now politically matured and come of age to the point of knowing how to successfully achieve their political objectives. These are the core of the G40s. They are unconquerable. They will continue to triumph on the back of the last message they received from President Mugabe: “Iwe Neni Tine Basa. Unconquerable G40 Triumphs - The Zhuwao Brief Reloaded Article 15 (ZBR15)

This week saw several young people announcing that they will contest local polls in the forthcoming general elections as independent candidates. Over the past few weeks, I have been engaging with a number of these candidates to try and ascertain this development, whose pitfalls have been witnessed before. Most of them said their main reason for this trend is the marginalisation of women and youth by the mainstream political parties.
But how can this be the reason, given that these political parties have vibrant women and youth wings?
Upon closer scrutiny, independent candidates find themselves between a rock and a hard place. They are in a quandary. The rock is defined by Zimbabwe’s mainstream political parties that have proven to be a major disappointment to themselves and their founding values, principles, ideologies and constitutions.
For example, ZANU PF was formed as a liberation movement to free the people of Zimbabwe from colonial bondage under which they lost their political and civil liberties. ZANU PF’s founding values, principles, ideology and constitution have been eroded with the most recent and dramatic assault being the 15 November 2017 coup that trampled on the Party’s time-honoured principle that politics must lead the gun. The recent massive expulsions of ZANU PF members in 2015, 2017 and 2018 were in the same vein.
The same malaise has been seen in the MDC which was formed in 1999 by, mainly, former ZANU PF members as a critique to ZANU PF’s reliance on the bullet against the ballot under the grip of stockholder politics. This MDC challenge inspired a broader quest for democratic change under the banner of “Movement for Democratic Change”. Alas, the excitement around the MDC promise was short-lived as it too suffered the same fate as ZANU PF when it came to the Party’s failure to live by its founding values, principles and constitution. The highlights of this are the MDC splits of 2005, 2014 and 2018.
Young people who wish to engage in politics are alive to these ZANU PF and MDC failures. Plainly put, the current ZANU PF and MDC leadership are not products of democratic processes. Neither Emmerson Mnangagwa nor Nelson Chamisa are duly elected Presidents in their respective parties. Both of their incumbencies are tainted by cases of violence that have invited the speculation that they are two sides of one junta coin. This point is aptly made in Derek Matyszak’s 27th March 2018 article for the Institute of Security Studies (ISS) entitled “MDC-T does succession the ZANU PF way”.
Consequently, some young aspiring politicians who eschew violence associated with both ZANU PF and MDC are understandably opting to stand as independent candidates to escape from the rock of mainstream parties. But as they do that, they find themselves arrested by the political weaknesses of the independency of an individual.
This is because independent candidature implies a dissociation from others; yet politics by its nature is inherently about association. Politics is about groups. Group is the opposite of independent candidates. The importance of the fact that to be political is to associate, is demonstrated by the provision of that right in the Bill of Rights in the Constitution of Zimbabwe. The freedom to associate does not need to arise if a person is alone; if they are independent. To be an independent candidate is to be a political hermit. That’s neither practical nor desirable in any community.
It is therefore no surprise that 11 independent candidates for local elections in Harare have formed a coalition of independent candidates. One of the members of the coalition, called People’s Own Voice (POVO), has said they intend to field candidates in all 46 wards in Harare. That sounds so much like a political party!
It’s ironic that independent candidates are constituting themselves into a group. How does an independent candidate simultaneously become a member of a group of divergent individuals with no common manifesto? What happens if there are other individuals that want to contest in the same wards that these independent candidates are standing? Do they become default members of the coalition in which members contest against each other? Whilst there is speculation that POVO is a political party in the making, the reality is that the POVO conceptualisation is schizophrenic in seeking to confine independent candidates within some form of political formation which now limits that independence even by the simple act of having common regalia, let alone an admittance criteria.
I suspect that the POVO project will suffer the same fate as that of the association of Simba Makoni’s independent candidates in the 2008 elections. Makoni stood as an independent presidential candidate together with a collection of independent local and parliamentary candidates none of whom won a seat. After having been walloped, they then formed a political formation, Mavambo Kusile Dawn, which was stillborn after the false start of seeking to hoodwink Zimbabwe’s sophisticated electorate with fake independent candidature.
It’s clear that when independent candidates seek to avoid the rock of mainstream political parties by being independent, they end up in a hard place which is no better than the rock. Their situation becomes akin to that of a person who loses his car keys on the dark side of the street only to look for them on the lit side, foolishly hoping to find them there! He needs a strategy that addresses the fact that there is no light on the dark side of the street. Similarly, Zimbabwe’s aspiring candidates, including those who have been disillusioned by the bad behaviour of mainstream political parties, need frameworks that address the challenges of mainstream political parties that are forcing some of them into independent candidature. Tine basa rekugadzira hurongwa hwacho (we have the responsibility of developing those frameworks).

The Zhuwao Brief Reloaded Article 12 (ZBR12): Between a Rock and a Hard Place: The Quandary of Zimbabwe’s Independent Candidates

Former president Robert Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao has warned people not to use the former president’s name in various political endeavours. This comes after some of Mugabe’s loyalists have launched a campaign called #2018Resistance purportedly to resist President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration. Although Zhuwao is a supporter of the #2018Resistance campaign, he has called on people not to link it with the Mugabe name.
Speaking to New Zimbabwe, Zhuwao said:
<blockquote>I have noticed that there are a few people that want to use the names and images of Excellences Comrade Robert Gabriel Mugabe and Dr Grace Mugabe for various political objectives without their express approval.
Whilst it is commendable that there are multitudes of Zimbabweans who wish to support and strengthen the Robert Gabriel Mugabe legacy, such support should be properly coordinated and prosecuted by people on whom proper and appropriate due diligence should have been done prior to them getting support to any venture.
Any use of the names, images and brands of the Mugabe family without their express approval can be viewed with suspicion as being attempts to abuse them.</blockquote>
Zhuwao’s current whereabouts are unknown as he says that he fears for his life. He has vowed not return to Zimbabwe although <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2017/11/18/video-zimbabweans-used-zdf-benefit-mnangagwa-laughable-coup-says-zhuwao/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">he granted an interview to a South African channel days before Mugabe stepped down last year</a>. Zhuwao has also written an opinion piece in which he criticised the President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/01/08/patrick-zhuwaos-full-statement-mnangagwa-military-2018-resistance/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">claiming that Mnangagwa is not popular enough to win an election.</a>
