Former Warriors vice captain <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Ovidy_Karuru">Ovidy Karuru</a> is reportedly set to join Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side Yadah Stars, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200023849/karuru-set-for-yadah">NewsDay</a>.
Karuru, who has played in Belgium, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia, is currently clubless.
Yadah Stars recently signed CAF Champions League winner Khama Billiat as the club’s owner Walter Magaya targets big-name players to improve the profile of the local premiership and attract more spectators to stadiums.
Billiat joined the Miracle Boys in a one-year US$50 000 deal that also has other lucrative benefits, including a luxury vehicle.
Speaking after Billiat was unveiled at Yadah’s home, Heart Stadium on Thursday, Magaya said:

The biggest ambition is just to bring back joy in the PSL. We believe that we should bring a bit of leadership and bring back people to support soccer; that is our main aim. That is why there is the Heart Stadium.
The look is not basically on Yadah, but on the joy that should be found in the PSL. That is why we are aiming to bring that excitement back to football.
If you see how people were attending football matches last year, it was not encouraging.
We believe that bringing back these heroes of football may bring back the supporters to the stadiums. That is our prayer and our aim.

Ovidy Karuru Set To Join Yadah | Report

Warriors midfielder Ovidy Karuru says people should not underestimate Saudi Arabia’s second-tier league.
Karuru (33), who recently spent six months playing for Al-Shoalah, <a href="https://www.snl24.com/kickoff/sanews/premiership/kaizer-chiefs/ex-chiefs-midfielder-on-why-the-league-where-pitso-is-coaching-must-be-respected-20221129">told KickOff</a> that the Saudi second-tier division pays good money. He said:

Some teams in that league (Saudi Arabia second tier league) pay players winning bonuses of up to US$4 000 towards the end of the season which you get after the game in cash.
After we won our last game and survived, we were given winning bonuses of 25 000 Saudi Riyal (approx. R113 000).
The plus about staying in the Middle East is that the lifestyle doesn’t demand so much.
R200 worth of fuel is a lot and you don’t have to be dressed up because nobody cares about that as they were their long Arabic garment.
I had three tops and three bottoms in six months there because I was always at home alone.
It is extremely hot during the day, so you don’t go anywhere, they don’t speak English, there are no pubs, and the women don’t even look at you so all your money stays in your pocket unlike in South Africa where you spend easily as there are always temptations.

Karuru is currently a free agent after his short-term contract with Al-Shoalah expired.

Karuru Speaks On Footballers' Earnings In Saudi Arabia

Zimbabwean international midfielder Ovidy Karuru has completed a move to Saudi Arabia second-tier club, Al-Shoulla FC.
The 32-year-old has been without a club since he was released by relegated South African side Black Leopards at the end of last season.
As a result, Karuru was overlooked for the Warriors squad for the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, where Zimbabwe was knocked out at the group stages.
Karuru, who has played for Gunners and Masvingo United, and in France and Belgium, took to social media to express his delight after being officially presented at his new club on Saturday evening. He said:

Don’t congratulate me…..Just give glory to God because he is the one who made it possible.
When you see me, I want you to see how good God is to those who trust his promises.
</blockquote>
Karuru becomes the third Zimbabwean to ply his trade in Saudi Arabia in the last decade after Musona and Tendai Ndoro who both also played in South Africa.
Musona, who is the Warriors captain, plays for Saudi Pro League side Al Taai.

Ovidy Karuru Joins Saudi Club, Al Shoulla

Warriors vice-captain Ovidy Karuru said that Zimbabwe should have a strong start in the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers for them to have any chance of of qualifying to the finals for the first time.
Zimbabwe is in Group G together with Ghana, South Africa and Ethiopia and will play its opening and closing matches of the campaign at home.
Karuru told NewsDay that the Warriors may need to win all their six matches to proceed to the next stage of the qualifiers. He said:
<blockquote>A good start is always important because it gives us a good foundation on which to build our campaign going forward.
World Cup qualifiers are tough and only the best team will progress. That means we will need to win almost all the matches in the group to go through.
Winning the first match will obviously give us confidence. I’m happy that we are going to start at home.</blockquote>
Zimbabwe will begin its World Cup campaign at home against neighbours South Africa between June 5-8, before travelling to Ethiopia the following week.
The top team in the group will progress to the final qualifying round, where they join nine other group winners from the continent to play home and away over two legs.
The five winners will represent Africa at the World Cup finals in Qatar next year.

Warriors Need To Win All World Cup Qualifiers - Karuru

Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic has defended the inclusion of South African-based striker Ovidy Karuru in his 24-man provisional Warriors squad for the back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Algeria, even though he currently has no club.
The Croatian argued that Karuru showed commitment to the Warriors cause and also his assistants spoke glowingly of him. Addressing a press conference in Harare on Sunday, Logarusic:
<blockquote>When we made the squad, we did not know where Ovidy was and we made the squad not knowing whether they were changing clubs or not.
I spoke to him and he showed commitment, saying that he was working. He also told me that he was not injured.
When I talked to my assistants, they told me he was one of the best players when the Warriors played against Botswana and Zambia.
That means he didn’t disappoint when he played for the country last time.</blockquote>
Karuru is currently unattached after he parted ways with South Africa’s DStv premiership side Stellenbosch under unclear circumstances.
Meanwhile, respected sports journalist Yvonne Mangunda criticised the Warriors’ technical team for overlooking Orlando Pirates striker Terrence Dzvukamanja in favour of unattached players. She wrote on her Facebook on Saturday about Dzvukamanja:

The Warriors midfielder Ovidy Karuru has officially joined South Africa’s top-flight league’s Stellenbosch FC ZBC News reports.
Ovidy was unveiled today by the Cape Town team. <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/12/22/karuru-amazulu-part-ways/">Karuru was offloaded by his previous team Amazulu last month and he was immediately snatched by Stellenbosch FC.</a>
Karuru is Stellenbosch’s third sign up for the month of January.

South African-based Warriors forward, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ovidy_Karuru" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ovidy Karuru</a>, has completed a move to Stellenbosch following his recent release from Amazulu.
Stellies head coach Steve Barker confirmed to KickOff.com that Karuru has indeed signed for the club, but refused to reveal the length of the contract. He said:
<blockquote>That’s correct, but I’m not divulging the length of his contract. Once he was released and terminated his contract with AmaZulu, we moved to get a deal done.</blockquote>
The former Kaizer Chiefs star was about to enter the final six months of his contract with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit before they parted company by mutual agreement.
Karuru earlier told Harare tabloid, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/H-Metro" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">H-Metro</a> that he was not offloaded by Amazulu but that he decided to leave the club after he had received a good offer from Stellenbosch.

Ovidy Karuru Completes Move To Stellenbosch

South African-based Warriors vice-captain <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ovidy_Karuru" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ovidy Karuru</a> has joined Stellenbosch after his contract with Amazulu was terminated by mutual consent.
Karuru joined Amazulu in 2017 from Kaizer Chiefs and went on to score six goals and made 56 appearances for the club.
Reports suggest that Karuru had an uneasy relationship with new Amazulu coach Jozef Vukusic who joined the South African side in September.
Meanwhile, Stellenbosch is bottom of the Absa Premiership log with 12 points from 14 games while Amazulu is just a point above them.
