Residents of Norton have expressed concerns about plans by Sunny Yi Feng, one of the largest tile manufacturers in Southern Africa, to build a 210MW thermal power station in their area.
Earlier this month, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) announced that Sunny Yi Feng had applied to install a 20MW solar plant at its factory.
However, the company needs more power than the solar plant can provide, which is why it plans to build a much larger 210MW thermal power station. This plan has faced opposition from local residents.
Sunny Yi Feng produces over 35,000 square metres of tiles and 40,000 pieces of kitchenware daily, serving both local and international markets.
To address Zimbabwe’s unreliable power supply, the company wants to generate its own electricity.
However, Sunny Yi Feng’s proposal has faced resistance in other areas as well, such as its plan to mine coal in the Sinamatella area of Hwange National Park. Zimbabwe’s Parks and Wildlife Management Authority has opposed the mining proposal.
A report by a consultant hired by Sunny Yi Feng found that Norton residents are concerned about the environmental impact, especially air pollution from burning coal.
They worry that emissions could lead to respiratory diseases, cancer, and other health issues. There’s also concern that pollution could affect nearby water bodies, including Lake Chivero and Darwendale Dam.
Sunny Yi Feng, through its energy arm Sunny Jin Long Energy, insists that it has the technology to manage these risks.
The company plans to use emission control systems, and dust filters, and repurpose fly ash from coal as a material for making cement.
Despite these assurances, local residents are questioning why the company is opting for coal instead of renewable energy sources.
Sunny Yi Feng says it doesn’t have enough space for a large solar plant because generating 210MW from solar would need around 1,000 hectares, but the company only has 29 hectares available.
The company also claims that hydropower isn’t a viable option due to a lack of water in the area. They argue that coal-fired power is a more reliable option because it can provide continuous power, unlike solar and wind, which depend on weather conditions.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a tragic road traffic accident in which a toddler, just one year and three months old, was killed.
The child was run over by a reversing Honda Fit vehicle in the yard of a house in Maridale, Norton, on September 23, 2024, around 3:10 PM.
Police said the child sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital in Norton. Reads a Police statement:

In a separate incident, an unidentified man died after being struck by a vehicle along the Harare–Mutare Road near the Mutare ZINWA water tanks on Sunday morning.
Police said that the victim was involved in an apparent hit-and-run at around 5 AM, near the 260-kilometre peg on the Harare–Mutare Road. The motorist did not stop after the accident.
The victim’s body was taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem. Police are appealing for information that may help identify the victim and the motorist involved in this incident.

A toddler was killed by a car that was backing up in a yard in Norton. The child got hurt in the head and died at the hospital. In another accident, a man was hit by a car on the Harare-Mutare Road and the driver didn't stop. The man died and the police are looking for information to find the driver. It's important to be careful around cars to avoid accidents and always stop to help if someone gets hurt.

Toddler Killed By Reversing Car In Yard Accident In Norton

The Skyline tollgate in Zimbabwe is set to be relocated to the 36km peg along the Harare-Masvingo Road, moving it outside the urban area. This comes as part of the government’s plan to ease the financial burden on motorists living in peri-urban areas who are paying tolls twice daily on their way to and from work. The Shamva tollgate has already been moved from the Harare urban area to the Juru area and is now operational.
The Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) has assured that they have enough funds to support the tollgate relocation. In addition to the relocations, there are plans to upgrade existing tollgates on major highways to accommodate the growing volumes of traffic. The tollgates listed for relocation are Skyline, Dema, Lion’s Den, Umguza, and Shamva, while those to be rehabilitated are Norton, Esigodini, Mushagashi, Mupfurudzi, and Colleen Bawn tollgates.
The tollgate relocations take into consideration traffic patterns, road safety, and the convenience of road users. Zinara will fund the reconstruction, rehabilitation, and relocation of the tollgates. The government aims to involve the people of Zimbabwe, especially women and youths, in road rehabilitation and infrastructural development to benefit from the country’s development policies.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona, along with Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province Charles Tavengwa, recently toured the rebuilt roads in Harare and Chitungwiza. Minister Mhona appealed to the people of Zimbabwe, especially women and youths, to participate in road rehabilitation and infrastructural development, aligning with the policy of “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” (the nation is built by its own people) that President Mnangagwa is promoting. Norton MP Temba Mliswa (Independent), claims the constituency delimitation exercise by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) reduced ZANU PF’s support base in Norton.
ZANU PF Mashonaland West provincial Women’s League chairperson, Constance Shamu was elected the party’s candidate for Norton in upcoming elections during primary elections held last month.
Shamu will likely face Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC)’s Richard Tsvangirai.
Posting on Twitter recently, Presidential spokesperson, George Charamba, asserted that males who are contesting against aspiring female candidates must prepare for exit. Wrote Charamba:

ZEC Delimitation Reduced ZANU PF's Support In Norton - Mliswa

Norton Member of Parliament (MP), <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Temba_Mliswa">Temba Mliswa</a>, has said the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) must tell <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zanu-pf-mp-justice-mayor-wadyajena-arrested/">where the US$5 million went</a> if the authority does not have evidence against his Gokwe-Nembuya counterpart, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Justice_Mayor_Wadyajena">Justice Mayor Wadyajena</a>.
Mliswa’s remarks come barely days after Wadyajena (ZANU PF) was <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/wadyajena-cottco-managers-removed-from-remand/">acquitted in a fraud case</a> in which he was being accused of embezzling COTTCO funds meant for acquiring bale cables and buying trucks.
Wadyajena was jointly charged with COTTCO bosses Pius Manamike, Maxmore Njanji, Chiedza Danha and Fortunate Molai. 
In a series of Twitter posts seen by Pindula News, Mliswa said the money cannot just vanish. We present the posts below:

It’s very unfortunate when upstanding citizens are dragged into the mud like this by dirty politicians using the power of money to capture the courts and the media. We now know that many criminals are joining @ZANUPF_Official because they want to be protected. It’s a shame.
Ultimately such decisions and actions are an egg to the face of the ruling party. It shows all the talk about fighting against corruption is empty. How do you convince us that you are serious about fighting corruption when such cases flounder?
Why not just give ZACC a certificate to prosecute its own cases if you are serious? They have been asking for it but Gvt is refusing yet the NPA is consistently failing to get convictions. How do you win 4 cases out of 180 dockets&amp; maintain a straight face?
We can’t have a country where the system is only effective in persecuting those who speak out but redundant on progressive issues. Hon Sikhala is there languishing in remand, I have suffered the same with Chihuri but every dog has its day. Seasons pass and the weather changes.
Nobody is convinced that Gvt will effectively deal with corruption. It has only become efficient against those who truly stand up for the people. Biti, Sikhala, myself and many others, we see it. Asi ushe madzoro. That’s a timeous prophecy that requires no invocation to manifest.
We saw those who abused their offices and the law under Mugabe. Where are they now? Politicians still fail to learn and appreciate this epic dictate of life. What goes around comes around. To be safe just do the right things when you have the power.

"If There's No Evidence Against Wadyajena, Where Did The US$5 million Go?" - Mliswa

Shepherd Tsomondo, a former liberation war fighter, has been laid to rest, with speakers describing him as a disciplined cadre who should be emulated by others.
Tsomondo who was declared a Provincial hero succumbed to renal failure on Monday last week at the age of 64 and was buried in Norton last Friday with full military honours.
ZANU PF Mashonaland West provincial War Veterans League chairman <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Happison_Muchechetere">Happison Muchechetere</a> urged party members and supporters to emulate Tsomondo’s life, and promote political tolerance ahead of 2023 harmonised elections. 
Muchechetere encouraged Zimbabweans to desist from violence and urged them to focus on rebuilding the nation towards attaining Vision 2030 of an empowered upper-middle-income society.
Speaking at the burial, Tsomondo’s wife, Bybit Tsomondo, said she was only 16 when she met him in 1978. She added:

 …up to the time of his death, we had a good understanding of each other (even as) people always wonder whether or not war veterans can marry each other and live in harmony. 
When we came from the war, we did not beat any one; as war veterans, we were taught discipline and if you want to win the people, you should shun violence.

Former Liberation War Fighter Shepherd Tsomondo Buried

A 62-year-old woman has been arrested in Darwendale on allegations of killing her 81-year-old husband on Sunday following a fight over allegations of infidelity.
Mary Banda is alleged to have fought with her husband Nira Benet (81) who was confirmed dead on arrival at Father O’Hea Hospital from breathing disorders.
A report was made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) leading to the arrest of Banda.
Banda and Benet had been fighting when Benet developed challenges in breathing and was rushed to Father O’Hea Hospital, The Herald reported citing National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi. 
He was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police in Kadoma have arrested three wanted persons, Darlington Daniel Mawuta Pichesi (18), Richard Pichesi (18) and Clifford Stanford Chibhutu in connection with a case of robbery and two cases of theft which occurred in Kadoma in August 2022.
Investigations by the Police linked the suspects to another case of theft, where they stole two solar panels in Kadoma in November 2022. 
Meanwhile, police in Bulawayo arrested Thulani Banda (30) on Sunday for a robbery in which he and an accomplice, still at large, robbed a taxi driver of a Honda Fit vehicle, a cellphone and US$100 cash at Nhliziyo Shopping Centre, Entumbane.
Police recovered the stolen vehicle from Banda. 
In another case, police arrested Tinashe Joram (32) for stealing a motor vehicle in Norton on Sunday at about 11 am. The suspect stole a Toyota Corolla vehicle (ABX 4962) which was left unattended by the complainant with the keys in the ignition.

A 62-year-old Woman Arrested For Killing Her 81-year-old Husband

Norton Member of Parliament (Independent), <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Temba_Mliswa">Temba Mliswa</a>, has proposed that eligible voters who choose not to vote must be penalised.
He made the remarks in an interview with a local radio station, ZiFM.
Mliswa, a former member of the ruling ZANU PF, said the government would have used the taxpayers’ money to ensure that the electorate is registered therefore choosing not to vote after successfully registering should be punishable.
Zimbabwe is gearing up for the harmonised elections scheduled for 2023. 
Political analysts say the electorate, especially members of the opposition, has been disillusioned by ZANU PF’s prolonged stay in power despite their voting for its removal in previous elections.
Some members of the opposition allege that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission connives with ZANU PF to manipulate electoral processes in favour of the ruling party making it folly to participate in electoral processes.
Meanwhile, there has been a bevvy of organisations mobilising the citizenry to register to vote and vote in the upcoming elections.

Madam Boss Narrates The Accident, Thanks Stranger Who Pulled Her Out Of The Car

The Grade 7 pupil from Katanga, Norton, a small town in Mashonaland West Province, who died while giving birth in Bikita on 04 October, was buried in Mt Darwin on Thursday.
Nokutenda Hwaramba’s body was ferried from Bikita to Mt Darwin on Wednesday and laid to rest on the following day.
Her father, Bernard Hwaramba, told <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/norton-teen-laid-to-rest/">H-Metro</a> that they will release the details related to the circumstances which led to his 15-year-old daughter’s death in due course. He said:

We have laid Nokutenda to rest. We saw it best to lay her to rest early since we spent the night travelling.
Details surrounding her death will be released later since we are still mourning her.
Nokutenda died on Tuesday at an apostolic church shrine while giving birth.

She had been taken to the shrine by her father for prayers as their church doctrine does not allow them to seek medical help at hospitals.
Some Katanga residents had threatened to beat up Bernard, and his church members, accusing them of causing the death of Nokutenda.
Speaking to H-Metro on Wednesday, Nokutenda’s mother, Loice Muparadziwo, said her daughter was impregnated by one of their neighbours, one Aaron. She said:

Nokutenda was said to have been impregnated by one Aaron from our neighbourhood.
She got sick and would just fall down as if possessed by evil spirits.
Her father consulted prophets from his congregation and later took her to Bikita for more prayers.
He left Nokutenda in the hands of the intercessors and she died while giving birth at the shrine.
The church doctrine did not allow us to take Nokutenda to a clinic, or hospital, to give birth or for any medical treatment.
I failed to accompany them to Bikita because I was also due to deliver and I had a miscarriage at Norton General Hospital on the day Nokutenda passed away.

Nokutenda’s death echoes the death of 14-year-old Anna Machaya who died while giving birth in Marange in July 2021 and that of 15-year-old Ferby Munyafi of Chiadzwa Village in Marange who died in January 2022 from excessive bleeding while delivering.
Hatirarami Momberume alias Evans Michael Momberume, a devotee of the Johane Marange apostolic sect has been charged with Anna’s murder.
Anna’s parents, Edmore Machaya (45) and Shy Mabika (36) were jailed for nine months each – wholly suspended – for lying to detectives about her age.
Ferby died on 12 January 2022 and police charged her “husband” 29-year-old Arthur Chitombo with having sexual relations with a minor.

Girl (15) Who Died While Giving Birth At Church Shrine Buried

A 15-year-old girl from Norton died at an apostolic sect shrine on Tuesday 04 October 2022 in Bikita giving birth, her family said.
Nokutenda Hwaramba died together with her baby, at a shrine, where she was being cared for by unidentified prophets H-Metro reported.
Nokutenda’s mother Loice Muparadziwo said she could not be with her daughter in her final moments as she herself was hospitalised in Norton where she suffered a miscarriage. Muparadziwo told <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/shock-and-outrage-grade-7-pupil-dies-while-giving-birth-tragedy-leaves-norton-residents-shell-shocked/">H-Metro</a>:

Nokutenda’s death brings back memories of the death of 14-year-old Anna Machaya who died in July 2021 while giving birth in Marange.
There is also a 15-year-old Ferby Munyafi of Chiadzwa Village in Marange who died in January 2022 from excessive bleeding while delivering under the watch of a faith healer.

Grade 7 Learner From Norton Dies While Giving Birth At Church Shrine

Four members of the same family died in a road accident that occurred on Friday 30 September 2022 in Norton.
A police statement seen by Pindula News says they died on the spot after a Land Rover Defender vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned before landing on its wheels. Reads the report:

In another road traffic accident, three foreign nationals died when a Volvo XC90 vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road before landing in a ditch. 
The accident also occurred on the 30th of September at around 1430 hours at the 170 km peg along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road.
The driver and one passenger died on the spot whilst the other passenger died upon admission at a local private hospital.

Four Family Members Die In A Road Accident In Norton

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kutama_College">Kutama College</a> in Zvimba which has channelled prominent Zimbabweans including the late former president, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a> caught fire on Monday morning.
<a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/2-kutama-learners-in-heroic-battle-after-hostel-blaze/">The Herald</a> reports that the fire started in the television room around 2 am.
The state-run publication further reports that two Form 3 learners at the school, Takudzwa Machuwe and Kapfumvute Mwamba, rescued 185 learners after their hostel caught fire.
The duo is said to have initially tried and failed to extinguish the fire before they quickly sought the support of others.
Another Form 3 learner was sent to the headmaster’s residence to alert him of the disaster at the school, while Takudzwa and Kapfumvute began the rescue mission.  
In separate interviews with <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/2-kutama-learners-in-heroic-battle-after-hostel-blaze/">The Herald</a> on Monday, Takudzwa and Kapfumvute said they evacuated all the Form 2s unhurt, but could not retrieve any of the learners’ belongings. Said Takudzwa:

I was awakened by some of the Form 2 students around 2am telling me of a fire that was in the television room.
We tried to put out the fire, but failed. One of the captains that we share the responsibility of taking care of these students with, rushed to alert the headmaster at his residence.

Kapfumvute said they had a hard time stopping learners from trying to get back into the hostel to collect their smartphones and laptops.  
A fire tender from <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Norton">Norton Town Council</a> responded to the call but did little to save the situation.  
By yesterday afternoon, most of the students had been taken home by their parents and guardians to recover from the shock of almost losing lives.
The school was constructed in 1914 and is a stone’s throw away from the homestead of the late former president, Robert Mugabe.

Mugabe's Former School, Kutama College, Catches Fire

Finance and Economic Development Minister, Professor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mthuli_Ncube">Mthuli Ncube</a> has professed ignorance over Rusununguko/Nkululeko Holdings, a military-linked company currently implicated in several corruption scandals.
This comes after Independent <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Norton">Norton</a> legislator, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Temba_Mliswa">Temba Mliswa</a> accused the Defence Ministry and ruling ZANU PF elites of using the company to plunder national resources. The allegations resulted in Mliswa being ejected from Parliament.
Mliswa, a former ZANU PF legislator, questioned the company’s partnership with the Chinese, demanding accountability from the company.
On Tuesday, Ncube said he was not aware of the Rusununguko company. <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/minister-displays-ignorance-over-army-linked-company/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> cites him as saying:

From Honourable T Mliswa, the issue of the war veterans company that you have raised; again, that is exactly what I have just addressed, that we have given them assets in mining, agriculture, tourism, real estate, financial services and there is a group of companies that is run by a board.
I do not have any accounts from Nkululeko/Rusununguko Companies within the defence forces. I will make a request to see those. I have no idea as to how much they are making and how profitable it is.

Mliswa had <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/08/24/mliswa-claims-army-zanu-pf-are-abusing-rusununguko-holdings-to-steal-resources/">demanded the disclosure of Rusununguko company’s operations</a> for transparency on the profits the military company is generating from its ventures.
Rusununguko is believed to be owned by the military and has vast interests in agriculture and mining.
Defence Minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Oppah_Muchinguri">Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri</a> last week said Rusununguko was a private company which does not benefit from government budgetary allocations.
The company has been involved in several disputes over the past years. In the latest case, the company was dragged to court by an Oman-based businessman on allegations of seizing his four upmarket houses.

Finance Minister Says He Doesn't Know Army-linked Rusununguko Holdings

Norton Town Council (NTC) plans to approach the government for more land for residential stands to meet demand from its ballooning population.
Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com recently, NTC acting town secretary, Blessing Mutyambizi said the town has a population of at least 68 000 people with many failing to acquire residential stands. Said Mutyambizi:

We are currently finalising our urban master plan which will enable us to approach relevant authorities in anticipation to unlock more land for our population.
Our hope is that the authorities may be able to hand over the nearby farms for housing development.
As it stands we can’t expand beyond the set boundaries because the town has run out of land for expansion.

He also said the local authority’s housing department was building vending sites for informal traders to operate from. Added Mutyambizi:

We have got a market stall which we are constructing to comply with social distancing and other COVID-19 protocols. We are anticipating that each should accommodate 40.
It’s not enough given the levels of need but it’s a good start. So this year alone we are anticipating building four of those vendor stalls plus public toilets.
The issue of sanitation is also paramount in the town.

Norton Runs Out Land For Residential Stands

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) reportedly turned down a donation of vehicles and bicycles by Norton legislator Temba Mliswa (Independent) that was meant to help the force fight crime in the town.
The donation included a BMW 323i, a Toyota pick-up, plus 15 bicycles and batons.
Open Council reported sources as saying that ZRP refused the donations despite initially receiving them at a handover ceremony attended by Mashonaland West State Minister Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, who is Mliswa’s sister. Said the source:

The donations were handed over to Norton Police last year but they had been parked all the time.
The reason is that ZRP seniors in Harare were not receptive to the donation due to the politics around Mliswa and how he has constantly accused the Commissioner-General Matanga of being corrupt.

The two vehicles were reportedly returned to Mliswa late last year after spending months parked at Norton Police station.
Reports indicate that early this week, Norton Police Officer-In-Charge Zhanda informed Mliswa’s office to write withdrawal letters for the remaining bicycles and batons.
Norton residents roundly criticised the move, describing it as cheap politicking and playing with people’s lives. Shibba Kamudyariwa, a resident, said:

We have had many cases of people attacked with machetes nemakorokoza (illegal gold miners) here because the police are not able to patrol in the evening due to their lack of transport and equipment.
Now they get vehicles from the MP and they refuse them over politics.

ZRP Rejects Vehicle, Bicycle Donations From Mliswa

Seven of the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/10/28/police-arrest-11-armed-robbers-and-recover-3-ak-47-rifles-3-pistols-full-text/">eleven suspected armed robbers who allegedly pounced on a farm in Norton</a> appeared in court this Friday facing charges of armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
Louis Munyamani aged 29, Tauya Nyanzou (45), Tozivepi Kuyangamara (47), Friday Tembo (43), Christopher Danda (37), Abraham Muzamba (31) and Pious Ncube (44) were remanded in custody after appearing in court this Friday.
Allegations are that on the 14th of September this year, the co-accused who were armed with two pistols and a revolver, confronted security personnel manning Knockmalock Farm in Norton.
It is further alleged that after having their way the suspected armed robbers went on to use an iron bar to break a gun cabinet before stealing three AK 47 rifles and six magazines loaded with thirty-live rounds of ammunition. They also stole two cellphones. 

They were arrested after police received a tip-off that the gang had plans to commit robberies which led to the recovery of the stolen firearms and ammunition. 
The police recovered three AK47 rifles, a 9 mm Pistol with a magazine of 13 rounds, a 7.65 mm pistol and a magazine of five rounds as well as a CPM revolver 0.38mm special with 0.38mm x 8 rounds. 

They are expected back in court on November 12.

Members Of The 11-member Gang Arrested For Norton Robbery Remanded

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)has confirmed the arrest of eleven people over an armed robbery that occurred on 14th September 2021 at Knockmalock Farm, Norton. 
In a statement, police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police had arrested Tendai Munson Ndlovu (43), Kudakwashe Adoni (28), Kosam Phiri (36), Svinurai Marandu (29), Louis Munyamani (29), Tauya Nyanzou (45), Tozivepi Kuyangamara (47), Friday Tembo (43), Pious Ncube (44), Abraham Muzamba (31) and Christopher Danda (37) for an armed robbery case which occurred on 14th September 2021 at Knockmalock Farm, Norton.
On 14th September 2021, the suspects went to the Zvinavashe family farm in Norton where they attacked the complainants before stealing two cell phones and three AK 47 Rifles.
In September, police refuted reports by some media houses that they had arrested the suspects. Back then, <a href="https://zimraider.co.zw/breaking-police-raid-safe-house-in-norton-11-arrested/">Zim Raider</a> claimed that Nyathi had confirmed the arrest of 11 suspects while four others still remain at large after escaping from the scene. 
According to Zim Raider, the terror suspects who have been carrying out undercover operations at 2345 Nharira, Norton, were arrested by the CID anti-terror unit following a tip-off from members of the public.
The report identified the “terror suspects” as Thembani Ndlovu (33), Philani Mkwananzi (29), Mtholisi Ncube (26), Phumulani Sibanda (26), Melissa Gamano (23), Tanya Mauto (27), Christine Juta (31), Simon Makonese (24), Reason Jera (40), Clemence Kasanga (39) and Tendai Mafunga (22). 
ZRP back then refuted the claims adding that the rationale behind the article was unknown.

Police Arrest 11 For Norton Armed Robbery

The Deputy Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Lovemore Matuke was Tuesday shocked by workers’ conditions at the Chinese-owned ceramic tile making company, Sunny Yi Feng.
The Norton-based company has for long been denying reports of poor working and living conditions saying it was meeting expected standards.
Sunny Yi Feng would add that such reports were being influenced by actions of conspiracy as a result of revenge distortion.

Following the reports, Matuke, accompanied by senior officials from his ministry, the national labour body, the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) made a surprise visit at the company where they came up against with the extremely adverse employee circumstances.
He was shocked to learn that the workers were daily fed on a diet of cornmeal and cabbages. He immediately ordered Sunny Yi Feng management to improve the food quality of its employees.
He told NewZimbabwe after the tour that he had implored the Chinese company to urgently reform and respect the country’s labour laws. He said:

It is the expectation of the government that every employer without distinction should respect the laws of the land, and as a ministry, it is our duty to ensure the Labour Act is applied, respected and enforced without favour.

Matuke also ordered Sunny Yi Feng to allow its workers to take regular off-days, improve the general cleanliness of ablution facilities and install doors for the employees to have privacy when using the restrooms.
He also demanded that a specific time should be created for the workers’ lunchtime, and not for them to eat while working.

Susan Mutami has declared her interest in contesting the Norton National Assembly seat currently held by her estranged lover Temba Mliswa.
Posting on Twitter on Monday, Mutami, a businesswoman and socialite based in Australia, said she has started mobilising resources for the development of Norton.
Mutami also claimed that Mliswa has reached out to her through intermediaries, asking her to desist from taking their matters to social media as this was negatively impacting his political profile.
This comes after Mutami <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/05/30/mutami-mliswa-drama-continues-as-she-posts-kids-bills/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">posted a letter to Mliswa</a> that stated fees required by an Australian school for the two kids which she says were sired by Mliswa, on social media. In her tweets today, Mutami said:

Susan Mutami Targets Norton In 2023 Elections

Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has said he will father more children if he so wishes to and that he takes good care of his 18 children revealing that he pays over US$25 000 school fees per term for his children, The Sunday Mail reports.
Temba’s outburst comes amid a nasty breakup he is having with his former girlfriend who took to the press last week and accused the Norton legislator of being in a <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/02/02/he-is-sleeping-with-one-of-his-male-associates-temba-mliswas-alleged-pregnant-ex-lover/">homosexual affair with his friend</a> and making money through extorting people.
Responding to the Australian based philanthropist Susan Mutami, Mliswa said:
<blockquote>Yes I have 18 children, and I love them very much. I am proud of them and I take very good care of them. Each term, I pay school fees of about US$25 000 because all my children attend top schools. I have 13 girls and 5 boys.
We are six in our family but my brothers and sisters have just one or two children. So it is my duty to grow the clan. Our family is blessed. We have two legislators in Parliament and I count that as a blessing from God to my family</blockquote>
Temba then seemingly took a jab at Mutami and said he usually dates mature women :
<blockquote>People are different. I mostly date mature women, who are professionals and know what they want. Most of them come to an understanding with me just to have children and not get married. I have seen many marriages failing and I see a lot of cheating happening in marriages, so the marriage institution is not as sacrosanct as many people want to claim. This is in addition to other philanthropic projects that I carry out in my constituency</blockquote>
Mliswa has said he is planning to sue Mutami who has been very vocal about their relationship and what went wrong between them on social media.

A man reportedly entered the cash office of a service station in Norton and threatened the employees of the station with the pistol before taking away cash amounting to US$3 050.
This was revealed by ZRP on microblogging site Twitter in a post that reads:
<blockquote>The ZRP is investigating a case of armed robbery which occurred on 09/01/21 in which one suspect entered into a cash office at a service station in Norton, threatened the employees with an unknown pistol, stole about USD3 050 and went away.</blockquote>
ZRP is yet to apprehend the suspect as they appealed to anyone who has information that might lead to the arrest of the suspect to come forward:

Lone Robber Pounce On Norton Service Station

ZRP yesterday arrested Norton legislator Temba Mliswa for undermining police authority after a video of him allegedly shouting at police officers for failing to enforce social distancing went viral on social media, Daily News reports.
His arrest was confirmed by his lawyer, Musindo Hungwe who said his client was being politically persecuted:

On the 24 of April 2020, Norton Member of Parliament Temba Mliswa (Independent) embarked on a programme to disinfect “hot spots” in the constituency.

The outspoken Independent MP wrote a letter to the company’s Deputy Managing Director William Gung, demanding that Sunny Yi Feng Tiles Zimbabwe, of Sunny Yi Feng Industrial Park, Lot 3 Knockmalloch Farm, Norton, cease operations forthwith in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The letter reads:
<blockquote>In my capacity as the Member of Parliament with the mandate of legislation, oversight and representation, and in accordance with Statutory Instrument 77/2020, I hereby demand that you hereby cease all operations at the Sunny Yi Feng Industrial Park with immediate effect.
The demand hereby made is in light of the risk posed by the threat of contamination by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) which has seen unsupervised and precarious quarantine systems practised at your premises.
Furthermore, the overcrowding on the premises serves as a perfect conduit for the rapid spread of the disease and must, therefore, be addressed.
Norton does not have the facilities or capacity to handle an outbreak of the Coronavirus if it is to occur, and this demand is thereby made to protect the innocent residents who may be exposed to the virus from persons on your premises suspected to be infected.
As a Member of Parliament, it is incumbent on me to safeguard people’s lives and health and I, therefore, trust that you will take this demand with the seriousness it deserves and comply urgently.</blockquote>

Norton legislator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Temba_Mliswa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Temba Mliswa</a> said he will not seek re-election in 2023 to allow him to focus on making money as it is not possible to do so when is serving as a Member of Parliament.
Speaking to NewsDay on Tuesday, Mliswa claimed that he has neither drawn from his salary allowances nor received parliamentary vehicles since 2013. He said:
<blockquote>For now, I have made my mark and I also want to make money. You don’t make money by being a Member of Parliament.
I have not even drawn my salary or allowances since 2013 and I have never received parliamentary vehicles and I’m one of those who didn’t go to Parliament to make money.</blockquote>
Mliswa also suggested that MDC leader Nelson Chamisa will take over as national leader when President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Emmerson Mnangagwa’s</a> second term comes to an end in 2028.
ZANU PF national spokesperson <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Simon_Khaya_Moyo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Simon Khaya Moyo</a> however, dismissed Mliswa’s succession remarks, saying he (Mliswa) should not be taken seriously as he cannot judge on behalf of all citizens, after all, he represents a small constituency.

Mliswa Won't Seek Re-election 'In Order To Make Money'

A Methodist Church in Zimbabwe-run school, Sandringham High School in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Norton" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Norton</a>, has hiked schools fees to ZWL$11 896 for Form One pupils coming for the for 2020 First Term.
In its provisional invoice, the school indicated that the stated fees may increase. Below is a breakdown of the fees:
