A <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/NetOne_Zimbabwe">NetOne</a> employee has appeared in court for defrauding the mobile network operator of airtime worth US$24 000.
Wiseman Bote, 39, was granted ZW$200 000 bail when he appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi.
He will be back in court on March 27, according to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/netone-employee-in-us24k-airtime-theft/">H-Metro</a>.
Wiseman, a customer care representative responsible for selling data bundles and airtime, among other duties, allegedly created 25 gigabytes and 50 gigabytes data bundles which NetOne was not offering.
The employee did not include the bundles in his daily report sheets. 
The court was told that Wiseman started selling the data bundles to various NetOne clients from December 2022 to February 2023.
Grace Mugocheke who appeared for the State told the court that on February 15, NetOne noticed the anomaly and reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the employee.
It is alleged that from the US$24 000 he got from defrauding NetOne, the employee purchased three Samsung S21S, one S21 Plus and S21 Ultra, an inverter and a lithium battery.

Employee In Court For Defrauding NetOne Of US$24 000

The High Court has ordered <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/NetOne_Zimbabwe">NetOne Cellular Pvt Ltd</a> to reimburse Communications and Allied Industries Pension Fund (CAIPF) ZW$552 561 it paid to the network provider’s ex-employee, Willie Walter Munakiri.
CAIPF approached the High Court arguing that NetOne was obligated to pay benefits to its former employees until they reach 65 years of age.
High Court judge, Justice Webster Chinamora upheld CAIPF’s application and ordered NetOne to pay the pension fund interest of 16% per annum calculated from March 16 2018.
The company is also expected to pay Munakiri his pension benefits until he attains the age of 65. Chinamora ruled:
<blockquote>
Rule 47 of the Rules provides that; every pension to which the contributing member becomes entitled in terms of rule 43 shall be charged on and paid out of the general revenues and assets of the employer organization until he attains the age of 65, after which it shall be paid by the Fund.
Thus the rule obliges the defendant to pay Munakiri’s benefits till he turns 65 years of age. Having reached that conclusion, it follows that the defendant should recompense the plaintiff the monies that it had paid to Munakiri.

Some Context:
Munakiri obtained a court order instructing that his pension benefits were to be paid out in terms of Rule 46 (1) and (2) of the CAIPF’s Pension Fund Rules.
However, the court order did not specify who would pay the pension benefits.
The court heard that CAIPF paid ZW$300 820 from March 16, 2018, until May 4, 2018, and continued to pay a monthly fee of ZW$4 064 to Munakiri until June 2020 when the amount increased to ZW$8 938.
In 2019, CAIPF issued a summons against NetOne demanding the money it paid Munakiri.

NetOne Ordered To Refund Pension Fund ZW$552K Paid To Former Employee

NetOne, the second-largest telecommunications company in Zimbabwe, has reversed its decision <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/02/25/netone-data-bundles-expensive-than-flight-to-south-africa-responses-tariff-hikes/">to hike its tariffs by more than 100 per cent</a> following public outrage.
The state-owned entity reverted to its old One Fi bundle prices as it backtracked on its decision to increase
10GB of data now costs $6 500, with 25GB going for $8 500, 50GB is $12 500 and  $15 000 is needed for 80GB.
NetOne Cellular had yesterday announced that it would be increasing data bundle tariffs today.
This Friday, the 25th of February 2022, NetOne had hiked its tariffs to the effect that:

<li>One-Fi – 10GB costs $16250</li>
<li>One-Fi Plus – 25GB costs $41700 1400</li>
<li>One-Fi Ultra – 50GB costs $81400, and </li>
<li>One-Fi Extreme – 80GB costs $99000</li>

NetOne Reverses Decision To Hike Tariffs After Public Outrage

Government-owned telecommunications company, NetOne, has announced that it will commence building a school in the marginalised Siachilaba area of Binga, Matabeleland North. 
The school, Bunsiwa Primary, located 60km from Binga Centre, is home to over 220 learners in the marginalised community.  
NetOne acting head of marketing and public relations Dennis Chagonda on Friday said the company had a mandate to assist the government in community building and development.  Said Chagonda:

As NetOne we seek to assist the government in delivering equal access to education for all.
As part of the United Nations “Leaving No One Behind” mantra, NetOne is working towards including all communities in its developmental strategy. Bunsiwa Primary has an enrolment of over 220 students, but only has 23 sets of chairs and desks. This means about 200 students have nothing to use and spend the better part of their learning day under a tree.
</blockquote>
NetOne has made a commitment to assist the community by constructing state-of-the-art school blocks, offices, staff and strong rooms at Bunsiwa and also provide ICT equipment such as computers, printers and Wi-Fi. Added Chagonda:

Covid-19 has exposed us in terms of the technology gaps between rural learners and their urban counterparts.
We have in our plan as a corporate measure to reduce the gap through the provision of ICTs to make eLearning possible.  
The block in question is at the foundation level with construction set to kick start in less than 2 weeks. In this project NetOne partnered with the community of Siachilaba which has 9 villages.

Earlier this year, NetOne commissioned the Nachulwe Base station in Binga in line with the telecoms giant’s broad corporate social investment strategy.

NetOne, Zimbabwe’s second largest mobile operator, has opened talks with South African telecoms firm Telkom on a possible joint venture.
NetOne is one of 35 state-owned enterprises that have been put up for partial or full privatisation by Government, which is seeking to prune some of its loss-making firms. Government announced in the Transitional Stabilisation Programme announced by Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube last Friday that Cabinet had approved for NetOne to start negotiations on a joint venture agreement with Telkom.
Speaking at Chatham House in London on Monday, Ncube said he has set a deadline of six to nine months to complete the privatisation of state firms. Previously, Telkom had shown interest in a deal with TelOne. In 2010, another South African firm, MTN, abandoned an attempt to take over 51 percent of NetOne.

Speaking at the sidelines of the World Technology and Information Society Day held in Murehwa on Thursday, mobile operator NetOne said they are close to securing the release of the $71 million loan facility from China Exim Bank to construct and upgrade base stations countrywide.
NetOne chief executive Mr Lazurus Muchenje said the parastatal was in the final stages of negotiations with the bank. Said Muchenje:
<blockquote>We are talking and we will soon receive a purse of $71 million. The funds will be put in the construction and upgrading of base stations around the country. We have areas that were having poor connectivity and we are now moving there to connect them to Zimbabwe and the world.</blockquote>

NetOne Close To Securing Release Of $71 Million Loan Facility From China Exim Bank

The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) has issued a directive to NetOne ordering the mobile network operator to refund subscriber’s funds which “disappeared” when using OneFusion.  The authority said that it had received numerous complaints from subscribers and decided to take action.

<blockquote>RE: BILLING COMPLAINTS ON NETONE DATA BUNDLES
We refer to the above matter.
The Authority has noted the billing challenges you are facing with the Onefusion product. We have also noted that you have sent a communication to your subscribers advising and admitting the same challenges. Given the extent and magnitude of complaints raised to the Regulator by the subscribers, we hereby direct you to compensate the affected consumers in accordance with the prejudice they endured. This is done in the spirit of promoting the consumers’ right to complain and redress.
Accordingly, you are further requested to provide the Authority with a database of affected subscribers that provides details of the subscriber including the name, number, and the extent to which each of them was affected in monetary terms and the compensation levels extended to the affected subscribers. The database will enable us to conduct an audit trail on whether all affected subscribers have been compensated accordingly. The database should be submitted to the Authority by 28 February 2018. You are also advised to furnish the authority with measures that you have put in place to ensure that challenges of this nature will not recur.

NetOne will launch its mobile money service OneMoney and a ZimSwitch enabled debit card by month end. OneMoney has been operational for the past two months.
NetOne unveiled the debit card in Murehwa in conjunction with the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe, TelOne, Metbank and Moonlight. NetOne acting ceo Brian Mutandiro said NetOne shops countrywide were already providing the debit card to customers. Said Mutandiro:
<blockquote>You can perform virtually any transaction with this debit card. The way one transacts with their bank card is exactly the same service you will get from this card. We saw it befitting to bring it here to you first because as NetOne, we realise how strategic this sector is in our economy.</blockquote>

The <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Postal_and_Telecommunications_Regulatory_Authority_of_Zimbabwe">Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ)</a> has announced that it forcing local mobile network operator <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/NetOne_Zimbabwe">NetOne</a> to reverse its new data promotions.
In a Facebook post Potraz said:
<blockquote>Today POTRAZ instructed NetOne Zimbabwe to stop running all promotions that have not been authorised by the Regulator. NetOne was presented with a letter to this effect today. All mobile operators are aware of the procedures they need to follow before introducing a promotion.</blockquote>
This announcement comes on the same day that NetOne unveiled a number of changes to its mobile broadband lineup, including the reintroduction of daily bundles that provided subscribers with 300 MB of data for $1.
This comes after a row over data tariffs took place last week , which resulted in Econet and <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/01/14/supa-tells-econet-accept-responsibility-actions-advocated-higher-prices-order-pay-off-loans-european-banks/" target="_blank">Supa Mandiwanzira blaming each other in a war of words</a>.

Zifa president <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Phillip_Chiyangwa">Philip Chiyangwa</a> says they don’t have money problems and that issues experienced by Warriors in camp recently were a result of miscommunication and misunderstanding.
The Warriors had a standoff with ZIFA over accommodation as well as the money they are set to receive at AFCON 2017. Netone had to  intervene in the the situation getting out of control and ensure that they will cater for the Warriors accommodation and other needs. The mobile network company has also taken care of the tickets for the Warriors who are expected to fly out this weekend.

Chiyangwa speaks on Sir Wicknell's silence concerning $250 000 Warriors pledge

<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_National_Union_-_Patriotic_Front">ZANU PF</a> has commandeered several State institutions to refurbish and carry major infrastructural developments at the venue of its annual conference at the Masvingo Agricultural Showgrounds st no cost ahead of the ruling party’s $4 million conference next week.
NewsDay last week witnessed staff deployed by several government departments, including the Public Works ministry, working on the conference site with earth moving machinery busy clearing the grounds. Zanu PF secretary for finance, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Obert_Mpofu">Obert Mpofu</a>, said he was unaware if the party had engaged State departments to do civil works at the site while Chombo declined to comment on the matter and referred all questions to Local Government minister <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Saviour_Kasukuwere">Saviour Kasukuwere</a> and his Transport ministry counterpart, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Joram_Gumbo">Jorum Gumbo</a>.
Insiders told NewsDay that the party was not paying any cent towards the conference’s civic works and all State institutions – the Department of Roads, Public Works and Health Services will do the works on order. The insiders allege that after the physical works, other State institutions such as <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/TelOne">TelOne</a>, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/NetOne_Zimbabwe">NetOne</a>, ZarNet and health facilities will come in to provide logistical facilities and other amenities.
