According to Chamisa, it is nothing short of devastating that Zimbabwe has consistently haemorrhaged its most precious and strategic resource: its talented, skilled, and highly-educated young professionals. He added:

This is plainly heartbreaking. Leadership is the missing link. Those in leadership have let the people down. By leadership, I mean everyone within the ecosystem of governance and influence. Any serious leadership would not allow this hemorrhaging to continue untamed or unchecked.
We cannot continue with a situation where all of us, as a people, are perennially preoccupied with finding a way out of our own country. I am yet to see a nation that thrives when the bulk of its best minds are outside it. It can’t!
It has become a common disposition for citizens to go seeking opportunities in other countries. The motivation being that the grass is greener elsewhere.
Granted, the grass always seems greener elsewhere, but it should be greenest wherever we are. Yet, right now, that green grass is benefitting no one here—except a select few.

He was summoned to testify after CCC councillor Blessing Duma alleged that Chamisa had instructed the City to fast-track the regularisation of settlements in Harare.
However, responding to evidence from leader Tabani Mpofu, Chamisa vehemently denied the allegations, accusing councillors of neglecting their responsibilities once they are elected into office. He said:

Well, I am not aware of that process, but what I am aware of is that there is a lot of tomfoolery and shenanigans within the context of local authorities.
In fact, what bleeds my heart is the fact that each time councillors are elected on a party ticket the moment they go into council, they go bonkers, run amok, throw away all dictates of reason, throw away all dictates of allegiance and loyalty to the party, which I can’t understand.

Chamisa also condemned the Harare City Council’s controversial and indiscriminate demolition of houses, which has become a frequent occurrence. He said:

What I am aware of, though, is that people’s houses were being destroyed and I had difficulties appreciating and understanding why a whole council would destroy people’s houses when they, in the first instance, had allowed people to construct those houses.
I take umbrage and great exception to people who then choose to undermine the rights of others in terms of the Constitution.
Naturally, I would have issues with any kind of disposition where people’s houses are destroyed. But as regards processes within the council, I am not a councillor, not a mayor, not even a council official.
In terms of the Urban Councils Act, there is no way individual citizens can actually have authority over the processes of council.
Because the council is a creature of statutes and council is a product of the law. Anything that happens within the council is governed by statutes, laws and procedures within that council.

Chamisa also said he has no control over the councillors and urged the Commission to hold accountable all those who have acted inappropriately. He said:

It is another point I have been asked. If you were to show me I would not know him. I have over 2 000 councillors.
If I were to see him I would not know him. There are 2 000 councillors who were under the CCC ticket. I don’t know who is who. I would not know. There’s no reason for me to even address an individual councillor on any matter.

Political commentator Brighton Mutebuka has hit back at Freeman Chari’s assertion that Nelson Chamisa, the former leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), personalised the movement with his doctrine of “Strategic Ambiguity.”
Chari, a veteran opposition activist based in the United States, who has had extensive involvement with MDC, MDC-T, MDC Alliance, and CCC, claimed that when the movement was first founded, there was a collective consensus on the importance of having a constitution and structured organisation.
However, he argued that Chamisa’s principle of Strategic Ambiguity led to the abandonment of those initial agreements, effectively disregarding the foundational promises.
In a sharp response posted on X, Mutebuka accused Chari of exposing sensitive, private discussions to the public. He criticized Chari for breaking confidentiality and airing internal matters outside the party.
Mutebuka further revealed that Chamisa was never interested in working with former senior MDC officials who had left the party under the leadership of the late Morgan Tsvangirai.
Notable figures such as Welshman Ncube, Tendai Biti, and Job Sikhala, who departed at various points, later returned to join the MDC Alliance—something Mutebuka suggests Chamisa did not fully support. Wrote Mutebuka:

My assessment, which I have highlighted consistently, is that there was no love lost btn Chamisa &amp; his erstwhile colleagues from the Tsvangirai era.
He was forced to embrace them when he inherited the MDC-A from Tsvangirai. That’s also where the likes of Tshabangu came from.
With trust &amp; confidence low, and the by-elections of March 2022 a mere 2 months after CCC’s formation, there was never enough time to complete the formalities of adopting a party Constitution at the time.
None other than Prof Ncube himself confirmed this to me in 2022. The draft remained just that.
The lack of trust was terminal, with many lying in wait to pounce &amp; break away soon after the elections.
Chamisa was clearly aware of this. It’s what informed Strategic Ambiguity &amp; the adoption of the Constitution that I criticised.
So the two were forced on him, as extreme measures / strategies which he hoped would be sufficient to stem infiltration &amp; hijacking of the party – with Mwonzora’s then recent antics still raw.
Let’s not forget echoes of a haunting past involving Biti &amp; Ncube’s damaging break aways from Tsvangirai as well.
Every strategy has got it’s pros &amp; cons. SA succeeded in exposing ED’s hand in the infiltration of CCC using state machinery.
However, it came at a heavy price of reputational harm domestically &amp; internationally vis-a-vis a perceived lack of adherence to democratic norms.
Many hadn’t bargained for ED being that brazen &amp; going to such extremes in pursuit of a life presidency.
The paralysis Freeman refers to post election is attributable to ED’s infiltration.
Chamisa succeeded in exposing the regime for conducting a sham election, which was confirmed by SADC’s SEOM Final Report.
That’s the best he could do under the circumstances with a hopelessly compromised party.
Freeman is unable or unwilling to accept that Ncube &amp; his crew’s behaviour is consistent with those that have been co-opted.
By breaking free &amp; starting afresh, Chamisa has got one final chance to start a project on his own terms &amp; for which he will be ultimately responsible!
It won’t be a walk in the park, but it’s for the best that a line be drawn in the sand concerning a very painful &amp; traumatic past!

Chamisa said that if elected president in 2028, his administration would prioritise identifying key industries for growth and creating job opportunities for Zimbabweans.
He also proposed establishing a Citizens Affairs Department to address public concerns and conduct regular citizen satisfaction surveys. Said Chamisa:

Former opposition leader Nelson Chamisa of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has pledged to implement a comprehensive citizens’ affairs plan focused on data, evidence, and statistical models to tackle Zimbabwe’s brain drain upon assuming office.
Chamisa said the citizens’ affairs plan aims to ensure that university and college graduates can effectively contribute to economic growth and prosperity.
In a statement released on Monday, September 16, Chamisa said he will ensure that the thousands of graduates produced annually by higher education institutions are absorbed in the job market.
He said this will be done by assigning a national identity, social security, citizen number and voter registration identification to each citizen at birth, which will then be activated upon completion of testing and qualification. Said Chamisa:

Our New Citizens government will introduce and roll out a comprehensive citizens’ affairs plan based on data, evidence, figures and statistical models.
Our data-led government model begins at birth and guides each individual citizen’s development throughout their life. This plan will be launched from Day one of the new administration.
Just this past weekend, we had the University of Zimbabwe’s 43rd graduation ceremony. A whopping 6,778 students graduated from the University of Zimbabwe, including 200 medical doctors among the 898 medical specialists, 256 lawyers and 327 engineers.
Sadly, we only had 16 dentists and 83 pharmacists graduating, an area that calls for significant improvement.
Yet, the market has no corresponding absorption capacity on account of the industry shrinking due to the economic and political environment.
We produce graduates but we have no viable market absorption plan to cater for the trained professionals we spew out year in and out.
Despite the huge investments made especially by students and sacrifices by families in these difficult times, there is currently no effective citizens’ affairs plan to provide these graduates with a clear career path.
This lack of opportunity and strategic planning means that our nation’s investment in education often fails to yield meaningful returns which could move us forward as a country.
We then suffer a significant brain drain and a human capital haemorrhage with our shining young talent building other nations outside of Zimbabwe.
Too many graduates either leave to seek greener pastures and employment opportunities abroad or remain unemployed at home, joining the thousands already struggling without gainful employment or enterprise.
Only by implementing a radical, elaborate, thoughtful and inclusive citizens’ affairs plan can educational achievements be transformed into tangible growth and prosperity for all, for everyone and for the whole nation!
As a proposal, these issue should be addressed from birth through rigorous system that from birth assigns a national identity assigning each citizen a birth, identity, social security, citizen number and voter registration identification to be triggered active when the testing and qualification is completed.
Through this level of monitoring and relationship with other data across the economic and social sectors, there is an opportunity to ensure when each student graduates with a qualification, the job market is ready to receive them with the most ideal opportunity best placed to move forward our country’s transformational and developmental needs.
This idea of graduates being jobless or trained professionals joining the jobless heap must be and will be a thing of the past.

Chamisa Promises Data-Driven Plan To Address Joblessness

Disputed leader of the CCC, Sengezo Tshabangu, received $1.6 million form the government as part of government funding political parties get after every election. Tshabangu, NewsHawks reports, received the money last week as government recognised leader of the CCC, the party he wrestled from Nelson Chamisa.
According to the Political Parties (Finance) Act, parties that manage to get at least 5% of the vote receive funding from the government 
The government disbursed ZiG47 ,883,500 to Zanu PF and ZiG22,116,500 to CCC. The government official rate is 13.9 converting the CCC portion to $1.6m.
Government takes the money from Treasury, which is funded by taxes levied on ordinary Zimbabweans when they buy goods, import goods into Zimbabwe, or when they transact electronically.
Tshabangu seemed to appear out of nowhere to challenge Nelson Chamisa authority when he, claiming to CCC Secretary General, sent a letter to parliament recalling elected CCC MPs from parliament. Strangely the Speaker of Parliament acknowledged and acted on the recall letters, despite Chamisa and other senior CCC leaders protesting that there was Secretary General post in the CCC.
When the CC approached the courts to rid Tshabangu of the power, they lost case, in a development many described as capture of the CCC by Zanu PF through the courts. Chamisa <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2024/01/25/chamisa-i-no-longer-have-anything-to-do-with-ccc/">eventually quit the CCC in frustration.</a> Tshabangu later appointed himself Senator and leader of the opposition in parliament.

After the election, Sengezo Tshabangu got $1.6 million from the government for his party CCC. The government gives money to parties that get at least 5% of the vote. The money comes from taxes paid by people buying things or doing transactions. Tshabangu became CCC leader, causing confusion with Nelson Chamisa. Chamisa quit the CCC because of the situation. Tshabangu used the money for his party, making him more powerful in politics.

Tshabangu Receives US $1.6 Million CCC Party Funding

UK-based Zimbabwean lawyer, Brighton Mutebuka, says former Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has been vindicated for pursuing a strategy of “strategic ambiguity.”
This approach involved keeping the party’s structure and leadership organisation deliberately vague and amorphous.
Chamisa aimed to make it difficult for opponents to infiltrate the party or target specific individuals, and to protect the CCC from internal and external threats.
By not having a clear leadership hierarchy or a formal constitution, Chamisa sought to obscure the party’s inner workings and make it challenging for adversaries to fully understand the CCC’s operations.
Chamisa’s critics, however, argued that this strategy allowed him to maintain personal control over the party, leading to a lack of transparency and accountability.
The emergence of Sengezo Tshabangu, who claimed to be the party’s interim secretary-general, and the subsequent recall of dozens of CCC Members of Parliament and Councillors, have been blamed on the “strategic ambiguity” approach.
However, Mutebuka believes that this strategy exposed senior party figures who were allegedly undermining Chamisa and working for the ruling ZANU PF party. Mutebuka posted on X:

The comments come after one of Chamisa’s major social media apologists, known as “Skilled Rebhara,” jokingly told the former opposition leader on the X platform, “Resign or I will expose you.”
In response, Chamisa asserted that his life is an “open book” and that he is unafraid of any potential revelations. He wrote:

Advocate Thabani Mpofu, a close colleague of Chamisa, has challenged those who have accused the latter of being bribed by the ruling ZANU PF party to weaken the opposition in Zimbabwe.
Mpofu has directly addressed Chamisa’s critics, demanding that they present evidence to substantiate their claims of ZANU PF bribery. He said:

Prominent political analyst and academic Ibbo Mandaza recently taken aim at Chamisa, lambasting him for his apparent “inaction” and his frequent use of the phrase “God is in it” on social media.
In his scathing critique, Mandaza bluntly told Chamisa to step away from opposition politics and allow other willing candidates the opportunity to lead. He wrote:

Prominent opposition politician Nelson Chamisa has reaffirmed his commitment to the struggle for democratic change in Zimbabwe, vowing to fight “to the bitter end.”
Chamisa said this in response to accusations from several high-profile Zimbabweans and social media influencers who allege that he has accepted bribes from the ZANU PF-led government to undermine the opposition.
Critics, including journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and academic Ibbo Mandaza, have made these claims but have not provided evidence to support their assertions that the former CCC leader is aligned with the ruling establishment.
Some have gone so far as to demand that Chamisa resign from politics to make way for a new opposition leader.

10. Some choose to disengage and pursue personal goals, interests and business as private citizens.
11. Some are perennial sceptics and perpetual cynics and armchair critics. The naysayers and doomsayers. These are a mortal danger to a people’s struggle for a better world.
12. Some fight to the bitter end! These few are in it for the long haul, for service and for Zimbabwe and its people AND I am proud to belong to this category.
The Struggles the world over and since time immemorial, are always laced with multiple sorrows and discomforts but ultimately victory kicks in.

Chamisa said that there should not be any discussion about the upcoming 2028 elections before the issues surrounding the previous polls have been properly addressed.
In a recent interview with <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200030864/a-political-settlement-is-inevitable-chamisa">NewsDay</a> senior reporter Miriam Mangwaya, Chamisa unequivocally stated that the 2023 elections were “null” and invalid. He said:

2028 is not in the picture at all, because talking about 2028, presupposes that we had 2023.
But 2023 was a nullity, a void and, therefore, does not exist. There was nothing and nothing stands on nothing.
The fact that we have had challenges does not mean that it’s impossible or it’s not doable. We must continue fighting until we get it.
That’s why it’s a struggle. It is never a walk in the park. It’s not instant coffee or picking pumpkins.
That is where the problem is with those who choose to look at 2028 as a yardstick. It’s not. We must fix what is broken now.

Chamisa demanded electoral reforms that “produce proper leaders” to break the cycle of disputed elections in Zimbabwe. He said:

We must have proper processes that produce proper leaders. People must not be sceptical about proper electoral and national processes because ultimately, that is what we must fight to restore.
If the path is broken, you must fix it. Let me put it this way: if you eat a meal and you have stomach pains and diarrhoea, do you move around and say eating is not good?
No! Eating an improper meal is not good. But don’t condemn eating because you ate a bad meal.
The nation needs a new heart, a heart for God, a heart for love and a heart for peace.

Chamisa also condemned the ongoing arrests targetting opposition activists and pro-democracy campaigners saying the country has become “a jungle”. He said:

It’s part of the struggle. What we are seeing is a definition of dictatorship. The everyday lived realities of the citizens are indicative and instructive of the challenges we have on a daily basis.
Zimbabwe is such a jungle and being a Zimbabwean is a struggle. You struggle for everything: water, transport, roads, power outages, it’s a nightmare.
Yes, the crackdown, the arrests, the persecution is a reminder to those in office that they outstayed and overstayed their welcome.
But it’s also a reminder to all the citizens that the people who are in office are the wrong ones.

For the first time since the founding of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) in 1999, Nelson Chamisa is not currently affiliated with any political party.
This comes after he resigned from CCC in January, a party he had helped establish just over two years ago.
Chamisa cited his decision to quit the CCC was due to the party being “contaminated” and “hijacked” by the ruling ZANU PF party.
He accused the government of undermining the CCC through the use of state institutions and by bribing party members to sabotage the opposition party from within.

In a wide-ranging interview with <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200030864/a-political-settlement-is-inevitable-chamisa">NewsDay</a> senior reporter Miriam Mangwaya, the former CCC president argued that Zimbabweans should seek solutions to their own problems, rather than relying on SADC. Said Chamisa:

SADC is not the ultimate answer to the problems we are facing. God is. His eye is upon Zimbabwe and his hand will move swiftly on this beloved land.
SADC is a platform. But SADC is not the ultimate or the whole answer. We are the answers ourselves. We must fix our challenges and find answers to our questions.
SADC is just a referee, but if a referee chooses not to play their role, it doesn’t mean that the players stop playing. You play, but you know that you are on your own.

Chamisa also lamented the stark disparities in quality of life within Zimbabwe, noting the emergence of a divide between an elite class and the struggling majority. He said:

People do not have a decent life. The cost of living is skyrocketing. Prices are high and life is hard in Zimbabwe.
School fees and taxes are very high. There’s no good news for the ordinary citizen.
In fact, we have two countries in one. One for the few who are living very well and a high life, but it is a dishonest life. And the majority, who have nothing.
So we have vene (the few elite) on one end, and vese (majority) on the other. Zimbabwe is a sick country.

Chamisa elaborated on the indicators of a sick country. He said:

The happiness index is at its lowest. We are the least happy people in the whole world.
There is gloom and doom, sadness all around us. Any country that has political prisoners is a sick country.
Any country that has over five million of its citizens in the diaspora is a sick country.
Any country that has unemployment above 90% is a sick country.
Any country, by world standards, with 49% of its people living in extreme poverty, is a sick country.
A country with the highest inflation across the whole world is a sick country.

God, Not SADC, Will Solve Zimbabwe’s Problems - Chamisa

In an interview with South African broadcaster NewzroomAfrika, prominent Zimbabwean opposition leader Nelson Chamisa rejected the call for Zimbabweans living in South Africa to return home to vote in the country’s national elections.
Chamisa argued that it is disingenuous to make such a request, given the deeply flawed nature of Zimbabwe’s electoral process.
He claimed that the results of elections are routinely manipulated in favour of the incumbent government. Said Chamisa:

Just the past year we have had many Zimbabweans leaving the country seeking better and greener pastures, and better opportunities.
To invite people back into hell or to invite them back into this very difficult situation, I think is disingenuous.
We have to correct the settings. Zimbabweans have a role to play in elections, but the elections are actually not proper elections.
So even if Zimbabweans were to come, look at what happened in the past elections, people were in the queues, the ballot papers were not there.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission could not produce ballot papers, and it turned out that Mr Mnangagwa’s friend Wicknell Chivayo was actually printing the ballot papers and playing the sabotage.
The election was just a sham. So, to talk of elections and Zimbabweans coming to those elections and participating is a bit of a challenge.

Zimbabwean opposition leader Nelson Chamisa, the former president of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party, has called on the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU) to help address Zimbabwe’s recurrent issues with disputed elections.
Chamisa, who recently left the CCC party citing infiltration by the ZANU PF-led government, has called for fresh elections in Zimbabwe to address the underlying problems with the nation’s electoral process. He said (via <a href="https://www.sabcnews.com/sabcnews/914627-2/">SABC News</a>):

Chamisa has contested the outcomes of the 2018 and 2023 presidential elections in Zimbabwe, finishing as the runner-up behind incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa on both occasions. Chamisa has alleged that these elections were marred by irregularities and vote-rigging.
Election observer missions from SADC and other international bodies have similarly concluded that Zimbabwe’s 2023 harmonized elections, held on August 23-24, did not fully meet the country’s democratic standards.

Chamisa Urges SADC, AU To Help Zimbabwe Deal With "Leadership Deficit"

Nelson Chamisa, the former leader of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party, says it is almost impossible to effectively run a political party in Zimbabwe’s dictatorial environment.
While the ZANU-PF-led Zimbabwean government ensures that elections are held on schedule, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) frequently bans most of the opposition’s planned political rallies, and political activists are sometimes arrested on questionable charges.
The police regularly invoke the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (MOPO), which governs public gatherings, processions, and demonstrations, to ban opposition rallies.
Furthermore, the opposition operates in an environment of politically motivated violence, as well as a biased judiciary and state-controlled media that are heavily skewed in favour of the ruling party.
Posting on X, Chamisa said it is not easy to lead and run a political party without adequate financial resources.
The former ICT Minister in the Government of National Unity (GNU), said the widespread poverty afflicting the Zimbabwean population creates an extremely challenging context for political organizations to function and mobilize support.
Chamisa also highlighted that when some people are elected as Members of Parliament or Councillors, they do not serve the citizens but exploit these positions for personal gain, mistaking representation and deployment for employment opportunities.
He said despite these daunting circumstances, serving the people requires great sacrifice, and expressed determination to persevere. Wrote Chamisa:

It’s not easy to lead and run a political party in a dictatorship especially without a budget and in an environment of extreme poverty. It’s even worse when this is all in a context of massive unemployment where some occupy public office opportunistically mistaking citizens’ representation and deployment for employment. It’s a difficult environment. What an impossible task!! But then to serve is to sacrifice. Change must happen. The job will get done!

Chamisa resigned from CCC early this year due to what he described as the party being “contaminated” and “hijacked” by proxies of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ruling ZANU PF.
In a statement, Chamisa stated that the original vision of the CCC had been compromised, and he accused the ruling party of infiltrating and undermining the CCC from within.

Nelson Chamisa, who used to lead a party in Zimbabwe, says it's really hard to do because the government stops rallies and arrests activists. The police use laws to ban opposition meetings. "Impossible" To Run A Political Party In Zimbabwe - Chamisa

In a wide-ranging interview on Skyz Metro FM, Welshman Ncube claimed that former Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa’s “strategic ambiguity” is solely to blame for the chaos and confusion that engulfed the party before and after last year’s general elections.
Ahead of the August 3, 2023 polls, CCC did not conduct primary elections to select candidates, instead employing a controversial system that sidelined several long-serving opposition activists in favour of newcomers.
Then, in the aftermath of the elections, party activist Sengezo Tshabangu seized control of the CCC, aided by state institutions, and embarked on a series of infamous recalls that ultimately gave ZANU-PF a majority in the National Assembly.
According to Ncube, Chamisa’s “strategic ambiguity” rendered everyone within the party as mere onlookers, except for Chamisa himself, who even went so far as to call himself the “change champion in chief.”
Ncube also claimed that Tshabangu was never elected as the interim secretary-general of the CCC, but rather took advantage of the “strategic confusion” within the party to unilaterally appoint himself to the position. Over and above that, as we headed for the August 2023 elections, there was already serious confusion within the party as to who held what position and who did not hold any position.
This other day we will wake up having Advocate Fadzai Mahere as the spokesperson and the next day it will be Mr Promise Mkhwananzi, all this under the animal, which they called ‘strategic ambiguity’.
This is what caused all this confusion, which ended up giving birth to an interim secretary known as Tshabangu, people that we never elected to those positions as party members.

Ncube, who has positioned himself as the interim president of one of the rival factions within CCC, that his group is actively engaged in restructuring the party in preparation for an elective congress. He said:

After this critical exercise, we will then take the party back to the people for them to elect their leaders of choice and hopefully, those who will be elected won’t make the same fatal mistakes we did like allowing this strategic ambiguity animal, which devoured the party.

Nelson Chamisa resigned from the CCC party in January 2024, asserting that the party had been infiltrated and hijacked by ZANU PF through its embedded agents.

Ncube Blames Chamisa's "Strategic Ambiguity" for CCC Chaos

Former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has commended South Africa’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) for its professional and accountable approach in the 29 May 2024 National and Provincial elections, contrasting it with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC)’s alleged inefficiencies and lack of transparency.
Speaking at the funeral wake of opposition stalwart, CCC senator and former MDC Harare Central MP, Murisi Zwizwai, Chamisa accused ZEC of being “incompetent and biased” and called for its disbandment, reported <a href="https://nehandaradio.com/2024/06/04/chamisa-hails-south-africas-elections-as-exemplary-calls-for-zec-disbandment/">Nehanda Radio</a>. Said Chamisa:

I must say that there are lessons to be learnt, the key lesson being that institutions that are independent and professional are important for the stability and progress of nations.
If you look at the conduct of the Independent Electoral Commission, it has been exemplary, professional, integrity, and of course accountability.
There are a lot of challenges when you have such a process, but if you look at it, they were able to answer those concerns. If you compare that with ZEC, you give them your complaints, they don’t answer.
What is clear from South Africa is that ZEC must be disbanded and be disbanded urgently; there can never be a proper election with ZEC in this country.

Chamisa also praised South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and his governing ANC party for accepting the election results despite taking only 40% of the vote. He said:

The ANC, I’m sure they have respected the outcome; that’s how we should behave, that’s being exemplary. I want to thank President (Cyril) Ramaphosa and the ANC for giving democracy a chance and for accepting what the people want.

Chamisa reiterated his call for SADC to intervene in Zimbabwe’s disputed 2023 general elections which failed to meet regional and international standards. He said:

We hope that SADC will play a prominent role in adjudicating the dispute in Zimbabwe because we have not agreed on the issue of the election.
In fact, it’s not about our agreement; the people of Zimbabwe know that the election was not conclusive in terms of choosing the leader who should be governing this country, hopefully, that issue is going to be resolved.

Zwizwai reportedly complained of flu before he died in a Harare hospital early Saturday. He was 54.
Zwizwai was one of the first MPs of the Movement for Democratic Change elected in a by-election in 2003 before leaving the party in 2022 when the CCC was formed.
He was the Media, Information and Publicity Deputy Minister during the Government of National Unity (2009-13).
Zwizwai was among five CCC candidates appointed to the Senate in April by Sengezo Tshabangu.

Chamisa Praises South Africa’s Electoral Commission, Calls For ZEC Disbandment

Former Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has been criticised over his statements regarding engagements with SADC over the Zimbabwean election disputes, reported <a href="https://cite.org.zw/criticism-grows-over-chamisas-sadc-roadmap-proposal/">CITE</a>.
In a statement issued on Monday, Chamisa said the dispute emanating from the August 2023 election should be resolved before the next general elections scheduled for 2028.
However, participating in “This Morning on Asakhe,” political commentator Douglas Mandaza criticised Chamisa for pinning his hopes on SADC intervention, saying the former CCC leader was out of touch with the current sentiments of the people. Said Mandaza:

It’s nine months down the line, and people have moved on. He abandoned the party after frustration and stopped the politics.
Now he is coming in for SADC to go and do a roadmap. It seems like he is working backwards to remain relevant to the political discourse.
Nine months to try and change things is not going to work. People have moved on. He can’t make a solution by himself.
He needs to come together with all opposition members and civic groups to develop a collective strategy, not pursue individual efforts to force SADC’s hand. This approach feels like kindergarten politics.
</blockquote>
Another participant, Bashona, said Chamisa was trying to manipulate public opinion after realising that his supporters are now sympathising with Job Sikhala. Said Bashona:

We need to be clear about people who want to lead us. Nelson Chamisa is not an amateur in Zimbabwean politics.
He joined at a young age and understands what needs to be done. He knows when and how it should be done.
He is a well-trained lawyer who understands Zimbabwean politics. He has been playing with our minds, reacting to how people have been accepting Job Sikhala in recent weeks.
Chamisa is worried that his supporters are now sympathising with Job Sikhala. There is nothing new in what he is saying that he didn’t say in 2018.
It’s the same story with a different jacket. Another press statement might come in a few weeks just to keep you discussing his plans, but the reality is that the opposition has been in power in many towns and cities for 23 years. Show us what they have done to improve the electorate’s lives today.
</blockquote>
Another participant said Chamisa should have pressed SADC to resolve the dispute soon after the August 2023 general elections. The speaker said:

This is a man many of us voted for in 2018 and 2023. At some point, we have to be honest. Chamisa should have acted immediately after the elections.
The iron should have been struck while it was hot. Now, it’s difficult to bend the iron when it has lost its heat.
As long as we keep talking about change through meetings, we are out of touch with what the streets are saying.
</blockquote>
Tsepang Nare criticised Chamisa for quitting CCC before SADC had responded to the concerns he had raised. Said Nare:

Chamisa sought SADC’s indulgence, which was a good move. But then he decided to leave the party. Why did he leave when the issues were raised with SADC?
He should have waited for SADC to adjudicate and assist since he realized some things were beyond his power.
</blockquote>
In his statement on 27 May 20224, Chamisa said he was waiting on SADC intervention to resolve the August 2023 electoral dispute. He said:

On 23 October 2023 SADC responded to our request and advised that they were giving the matter due consideration.
Meanwhile, we have noted the various meetings the leadership of SADC has held, including the latest Extraordinary Summit of the Organ Troika on the 23rd of March 2024 in Lusaka, Zambia. Therefore, we have advisedly been patiently waiting on our request.
On the 29th of April, however, since considerable time has passed, yet we had sought to resolve this issue much earlier, we delivered our follow-up to SADC for which we await a response to determine a clear path forward to resolve the governance crisis and leadership dispute.
Our request to SADC was and remains very simple, that, as the regional body which Zimbabwe has signed up for membership and vested some authority in the supranational intergovernmental organization, we require their facilitation to peacefully resolve the issues around the irregular and disputed elections.

Chamisa Criticised Over SADC Roadmap Proposal

<h2>Statement by former Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa on 27 May 2024, updating his supporters “on the resolution of the disputed August 2023 elections”.</h2>

UPDATE ON THE RESOLUTION OF THE DISPUTED AUGUST 2023 ELECTIONS
Fellow citizens,
I have prepared this brief statement to update you on the efforts around the resolution of the disputed outcome of the August 2023 general elections that did not produce a credible and legitimate government chosen by the citizens of Zimbabwe.
As you are aware, following the shambolic and disputed August 2023 elections, we held nationwide consultations with you, the citizens, and all other relevant stakeholders, on the ways and means to resolve the electoral fraud.
You, the citizens of Zimbabwe, are very clear and firm on the position that the elections were improperly conducted, indeterminate and produced a manipulated outcome.
This position is supported and confirmed by SADC, the African Union, the European Union, the Commonwealth, COMESA, and all other intergovernmental organizations which deployed election observer missions to Zimbabwe.
There is no other election in the history of elections in this country that has invited resounding and universal condemnation as the August 2023 elections.
This matter must be resolved so that the country can have proper elections that produce a proper government from the citizens.
Fellow citizens, as your presidential choice, you, in your millions, (nearly over TWO MILLION), gave a clear mandate, albeit in a disputed and contested election. That mandate cannot be abdicated, abandoned, or surrendered.
Upon and with your mandate, on the 26th of September 2023, we wrote to our regional body, SADC, the guarantor of the values and principles of the aspirations of the “common agenda” and “common will” of the people of Southern Africa.
On 23 October 2023 SADC responded to our request and advised that they were giving the matter due consideration.
Meanwhile, we have noted the various meetings the leadership of SADC has held, including the latest Extraordinary Summit of the Organ Troika on the 23rd of March 2024 in Lusaka, Zambia. Therefore, we have advisedly been patiently waiting on our request.
On the 29th of April, however, since considerable time has passed, yet we had sought to resolve this issue much earlier, we delivered our follow-up to SADC for which we await a response to determine a clear path forward to resolve the governance crisis and leadership dispute.
Our request to SADC was and remains very simple, that, as the regional body which Zimbabwe has signed up for membership and vested some authority in the supranational intergovernmental organization, we require their facilitation to peacefully resolve the issues around the irregular and disputed elections. 
The problem of the manipulated elections that produced a government without a mandate from the citizens has since culminated into high levels of intolerance, violations, repression, illegal recalls of citizen representatives (of the very same disputed election, in itself, an unprecedented move and an encyclopedic infraction of democratic tenets) unlawful arrests and persecution of citizens upon all other kinds of archaic intimidatory and suppressive manifestations of the lack of mandate.
It is common knowledge that our country is facing a plethora of problems. Most of them are basic and symptomatic of bad governance, broken politics, and disputed leadership.
We have a tanking economy; systemic corruption; 49% of the population living in extreme poverty; USD$1,8bn lost to looting annually; USD$100m worth of gold smuggled monthly; galloping hyperinflation; half of the population that is food insecure; over 3 million Zimbabweans forced to migrate; 89% unemployment; and disputed national processes and elections.
Only a legitimate government chosen by the citizens has both the confidence and mandate to deliver on their necessities and demands.
You voted for a government that would deliver healthcare, energy, water, jobs, stable currency, quality education and other basic services. You know why you voted for change.
The current challenges of failing to resolve the huge national debt, high inflation, currency distortions, drought, starvation, poverty, poor income, the hostile political environment, an air of sadness and brain drain are all symptoms of a government without a proper mandate.
Zimbabwe’s challenges are a direct result of the lack of legitimacy and mandate to govern. A truly elected citizen government is the solution for good governance and service delivery.
We reiterate this point to SADC, the AU and indeed to the international community, that it is untidy and untenable to sanitize or fertilize theft of elections and electoral malpractices by turning a deaf ear and casting a blind eye to matters of gigantic electoral fraud. Such is an afront to “the Africa we want”.
As you are aware, elections are the highest level through which a mandate is attained or ascertained as a contract between the governing and the governed.
No government can justly claim authority to govern unless it is based on the will and consent of the people.
On that score, none must be allowed to come into office through the backdoor, the window, cohesive means or command antics and tactics.
Our regional and international institutions cannot condemn a process and yet condone it and ultimately endorse it. It would be a contradiction in terms, to determine a process as flawed and yet condone its outcome.
Fellow citizens, may I hasten to say, the following and exhaustion of available remedies and peaceful means to resolve national issues is not a manifestation of weakness or that we are devoid of other ideas and means.
It is our strict commitment to finding each other and amicably resolving our points of conflict, disjuncture, and disagreement.
We have committed to a peaceful resolution of disputes and intend to exhaust all available peaceful remedies. As you are all aware, millions of you agree with this approach.
Zimbabwe is too beautiful and precious to be destroyed by flames of political disputes under our watch. Peace is fragile. Peace is sacrosanct. And the breakdown of peace knows no winner. The opposite of peace leaves us all losers.
Our beautiful country can never progress on the back of disunity and successive disputed national processes including contested elections.
We are acutely aware of the urgency of this matter and more importantly that there can never be any talk of 2028 or a viable and stable future for this country without resolving August 2023, the broken past, and disputed politics.
It remains our hope and indeed your hope that all these concerns will be addressed with urgency and seriousness.
On my part I am doing everything necessary, to the extent of God’s Will, to seek a lasting solution to the perennial challenges affecting our beloved country.
Locally and nationally, I have engaged all the stakeholders including the traditional leadership, business leadership, civil society at large, political parties and members of the diplomatic corp.
In particular, I have also sought the mediatory role of the church leadership to help resolve the disputed elections and contested national processes, albeit, with handicapped progress.
I have even numerously efforted engagement with the other presidential contender and he is aware of our point of dispute and the proposed way forward.
We have also developed and shared our roadmap with all key stakeholders, which paper we are ready to make public in due course.
We have engaged different stakeholders within the SADC region. At Heads of State level, I have engaged leaders through delegations that I sent to the various capitals of the region and the continent to brief Esteemed Excellencies about the election dispute, the political stalemate, and our proposed way forward.
I therefore urge you to take an active role in peacefully determining the destiny of our country. I exhort you, fellow citizens, the intercessors, and the church, to continue to pray for a smooth and peaceful transition in our country.
Stay the course, hold the fort, hold fast and stand involved. Stand ready. Change is upon us.

Former Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has expressed his commitment to seeking peaceful solutions to address the political differences arising from the contested August 2023 general elections.
Chamisa has refused to accept the outcome of the 2023 presidential race, saying the election was rigged in favour of the incumbent, President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Since he resigned from CCC in January this year, Chamisa has kept a low profile, leaving his supporters guessing about his next political move.
In his first public statement since his resignation, seen by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200027474/chamisa-spurns-calls-for-protestssays-zim-too-beautiful-to-be-destroyed">NewsDay</a>, Chamisa ruled out violence in settling political disputes, saying Zimbabwe was “too beautiful and precious” to be destroyed by violence. He said:

Chamisa said there was a need to resolve the August 2023 electoral dispute before the next general elections scheduled for 2028. He said:

Chamisa revealed that he was in contact with Southern African Development Community (SADC) leaders to intervene and “resolve the governance crisis” in Zimbabwe. He said:

However, political commentator and Southern Africa programme head for the Institute for Security Studies Piers Pigou, told NewsDay that an elitist clique within ZANU PF would not settle for dialogue. He said:

I don’t think he [Mnangagwa] would settle for dialogue. There is no political need to make this move (dialogue), as far as ZANU PF is concerned, they have won in the elections and they don’t agree with key aspects of reforms.
There is a lot of positive thinking that exists within the ruling party. Still, the individuals do not have the power to ensure that a policy commitment is made, or that there is accountability. That power lies in an elitist clique within ZANU PF.

Several election observer reports on Zimbabwe’s 2023 harmonized elections concluded that the overall electoral process did not meet regional standards.
The Carter Center Report said the election took place in a restricted political environment with an unlevel playing field, limiting candidates’ ability to compete on equal terms.
It also noted that critical election information, such as the final voters’ roll and polling station lists, was not readily available to stakeholders and extensive voting delays due to ballot shortages likely affected voter turnout.

Chamisa Rejects Protests, Calls For Peaceful Resolution Of Electoral Disputes

Opposition politician Nelson Chamisa has mourned the death of prominent preacher and Nyaradzo Funeral Services chaplain general Ellison Kamupira, saying it was unfortunate that the cleric died before he (Chamisa) could become Zimbabwe’s President.
Kamupira passed away recently while admitted at a private hospital in Harare aged 75.
He presided over many funerals including those of politicians and other respected individuals during his time as Nyaradzo’s Chaplain general.
As reported by <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/its-unfortunate-he-passed-before-i-got-into-office-says-chamisa-in-glowing-eulogy-of-late-chaplain-kamupira/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>, Chamisa was part of the dignitaries that included former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor Gideon Gono at the wake on Sunday. He said:

Kamupira was a unifying figure, and I’m deeply saddened that he left us too soon before I had the opportunity to become President (of Zimbabwe).
</blockquote>
Chamisa and Kamupira enjoyed a close relationship based on their Christian faith. Said Chamisa:

I heard people ask what my relationship with Kamupira was. They were asking whether he was into opposition politics.
No, he was not. Kamupira was my noble advisor and a proper advisor advises any side, anyone.
</blockquote>
Kamupira reportedly advised Chamisa to repackage his message on land so that ordinary people who were being misled into thinking that he wanted to give it back to former white farmers would know where he truly stood.
Chamisa took the opportunity to explain his faith as he has often been mocked for sharing Bible verses on his social media pages. He said:

I have been mocked for my faith but let me tell you that I stand by it. I have been enlightened, you haven’t.
I understood that in leading a country there are permanent things and things that will pass.
We are at a bus stop, we cannot build at a bus stop when we know that we are just passing.
</blockquote>
Chamisa also criticised Vice President Constantino Chiwenga who recently declared that the former CCC leader will never be the President of Zimbabwe. Said Chamisa (via <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/article/chamisa-laments-preacher-kamupiras-death-before-he-became-state-president/">ZimLive</a>):

Recently, Chiwenga remarked that this young man (Chamisa) aspires to be president, but he believes it’s impossible.

My father Kamupira thank you for unifying us, (and) thank you for bringing us together.

Chamisa Laments Preacher Kamupira’s Death Before He Became President

Nelson Chamisa, former leader of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC), has said a nation’s dignity lies in the dignity of its working people, who serve as its heroes.
Despite not revealing his next political steps since leaving the CCC in January this year, Chamisa assured Zimbabwean workers that change is imminent.
In a statement commemorating the 2024 Workers’ Day on this Wednesday, May 1st, Chamisa highlighted the harsh reality: over 80% of the working population in Zimbabwe remains unemployed. He said:

Strikingly, 3.5 million youths are unemployed while 7.9 million people live in extreme poverty. The majority live below the poverty datum line of US$575, while average wages at US$275 fall short of meeting basic needs.
Punitive tax thresholds, starting at US$100, leave little to support families, where a basket of basic goods is six times higher than the minimum wage.
Every worker deserves to thrive in an inclusive Zimbabwe where everyone has access to fair and dignified employment opportunities and a balanced work environment.

Chamisa asserted that if elected, his government will ensure that the Tripartite Negotiating Forum (TNF) will be the prime policy formulation platform and that no public policy will be implemented without passing through the TNF.
The TNF is a social dialogue platform that was established to facilitate consultation, cooperation, and negotiation on social and economic issues among three key partners: Government, organised business, and organised labour. Said Chamisa:

We will immediately grant public sector workers the right to collective bargaining by ratifying and domesticating ILO Convention 151.
We will re-establish a living minimum wage through social dialogue. We will allow workers to demonstrate and demand their rights.
The idea of an inclusive Zimbabwe free from poverty, corruption and oppression is the aspiration of all the citizens of Zimbabwe.
In a Zimbabwe free from poverty, corruption and oppression, the fruits of labour shall translate into economic progress for all.
Every family shall have the chance to prosper, and the benefits of hard work shall enrich the entire nation.
In a corruption-free Zimbabwe, the fruits of labour will fuel economic progress and boost economic prosperity, benefiting all families.
Workers deserve the freedom to freely choose a government that serves them, making the resolution of the August 2023 disputed elections a crucial step towards recognizing workers’ rights.

Chamisa said the current ZANU PF-led government is unelected, therefore illegitimate and incapable of responding effectively to workers’ demands.
He said there is a need to collectively resolve the “broken politics, disputed elections and contested presidential office.”

Workers Of Zimbabwe, Change Is Coming - Chamisa

Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has responded to ZANU PF’s second secretary and vice president Constantino Chiwenga’s remarks that he is politically immature and should learn to work with others.
Addressing ZANU PF supporters at a rally at Chikurubi Damview on Sunday, Chiwenga said Chamisa’s “job is to herd cattle”, adding that the opposition politician should shun individualism.
Subtly reacting to Chiwenga on X, Chamisa chose to be diplomatic and referred to the biblical David and Goliath story. Said Chamisa:

</blockquote>
Speaking at a ZANU PF rally to drum up support for the party’s candidate in the Harare East by-election set for Saturday, 27 April, Chiwenga said:

He came with CCC and said ‘Mukomana Ngapinde achipinda kupi? His job is to herd cattle. I’m not saying he should herd cattle, but I’m saying he should grow up and work with others.
If you have ambition, you must be in a party that advances the needs and will of the people. If you want to be in politics, work with others and shun individualism.

Chamisa in January this year quit CCC, just two years after the party’s formation, accusing ZANU PF of infiltrating the opposition party.
Political observers say the opposition in its current form cannot challenge ZANU PF. Reports suggest that some ruling party members are pushing for the scrapping of presidential term limits to enable Mnangagwa to run for a third presidential term.
Chamisa has been accused of indivualism after he sidelined key party figures such as Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, and Thokozani Khupe, thereby weakening CCC.

Chamisa Responds To VP Chiwenga "Cattle Herder" Comments

Zimbabwe’s main opposition leader Nelson Chamisa says the country has slipped from being a one-party state to a one-family State under President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Chamisa, who in January quit the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), the party he helped form, alleging infiltration by ZANU PF agents, said a multi-party democracy is healthy for the country. Said Chamisa (<a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/zimbabwe-is-now-a-family-state-says-chamisa-taking-aim-at-mnangagwa-dynasty/">via NewZimbabwe.com</a>):

Anybody must support their own party. Changing political parties must be like having one government after the other. Just like in Ghana, just like in Botswana.
Let us change political parties like we are changing diapers not to have this thing where it is like taboo, a one-party State.
We must have a multiparty State. In fact, we have even gone further. We are worse off, it is no longer a one-party State, it is a one-man State, one-family State. That cannot be. We must not have that, we can’t be that.

Mnangagwa has appointed his son Kudakwashe David as the Deputy Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, and his nephew Tongai as the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry.
Mnangagwa is also accused of allowing the First Lady Auxillia, who is often referred to by State media as “Her Excellency” and “Mother of the Nation”, to embark on international business engagements on behalf of the Government of Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile, Chamisa asserted that ZANU PF has failed to deliver real independence for Zimbabweans, 44 years after the end of settler minority rule. He said:

Independence must be about our dignity. There is no independence when you are naked. There is no independence when you have nothing to your name. We must create wealth as a nation.
We must regain our status amongst the family of nations. Independence cannot be when millions of Zimbabweans are scattered everywhere, dotted around the capitals of the world seeking employment, opportunities and greener pastures. Independence must have a new meaning.
Zimbabweans are suffering and any public address that does not speak to the suffering of Zimbabweans and acknowledge that citizens are suffering is deceitful, delusional and mendacious.

The opposition has been in disarray since Chamisa quit CCC, with some reports suggesting that the party has split into four factions frantically trying to get State funds under the Political Parties (Finance) Act [Chapter 2:11].
Political observers say the opposition in its current form cannot challenge ZANU PF amid reports that some ruling party members are pushing for the scrapping of presidential term limits to enable Mnangagwa to run for a third presidential term.

Zimbabwe Is Now A One-family State, Says Chamisa

Opposition politician, Nelson Chamisa asserts that Zimbabwe requires political transformation rather than mere currency adjustments.
In response to the introduction of the new Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency by Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor John Mushayavanhu, Chamisa said that the nation requires systematic political reforms rather than focusing solely on currency restructuring.
He pointed out that currency reforms in the past have been unsuccessful, and he cautioned that the ZiG currency is likely to face challenges due to underlying issues such as “broken politics,” disputed elections, and contested national processes.  Said Chamisa:

A currency is a bundle of trust and confidence. A currency is not a currency without confidence and value.
Money represents a collective trust in the stability and reliability of the government. Its value is derived from the amalgamation of this confidence.
Instead of introducing a structured currency, we need a conversation that produces a Citizens-backed structured political change and new government.
A bond note by another name will not fix our challenges. A currency is a bundle of confidence. Confidence is a product of good politics and good leadership.
Currency change has failed before. And it surely will fail again. All this, is because of broken politics, disputed elections and contested national processes.
In recent years, all these currencies failed because of bad politics: ZW$, USD, Bond note, RTGS, ZWL$, Gold coins, and ZiG. It is given that the new currency will fail again because of BAD POLITICS.
Currency reforms will not guarantee currency stability but good politics will lay the foundation for currency stability
Zimbabwe needs a political and democratic leadership change, not a currency change.
No amount of currency change will pivot the nation into prosperity and boom.

Chamisa asserted that Zimbabweans’ trust in the ZANU PF-led government has eroded, leading to a broader lack of faith in all aspects of the government’s functioning.
He advocated for a transformation in the country’s political landscape and encouraged citizens to seek the face of God as a remedy for Zimbabwe’s economic hardships. Said Chamisa:

The citizens have zero confidence in the leader of the country. Once the citizens lose confidence in an administration they automatically lose confidence in all that it stands for or represents. Nothing short of a TOTAL CHANGE and seeking the face of Our God will rescue the nation’s fortunes.
