A 34-year-old man from Limpopo Province, South Africa, allegedly shot and killed his 29-year-old wife in the Free State before fleeing to Zimbabwe.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said the suspect left his vehicle at a house in Campbell and allegedly crossed into Zimbabwe. Said Ledwaba (via <a href="https://www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/limpopo/limpopo-man-allegedly-fled-to-zimbabwe-after-the-brutal-murder-of-his-wife-544d99ef-da05-4454-b83f-af31b2ed171d">IOL</a>):

On January 20 2025, police in Musina received information from a tracking company about a white Ford Ranger with a Limpopo registration, which had been parked at a residence in Campbell.

Police reported that the vehicle’s owner had been missing since Friday, with a case registered at Moroka police station in Gauteng. Said Ledwaba:

Police rushed to the scene and found the vehicle at the residence. The owner (of the house) explained that he had kept the bakkie in his yard with permission from the male owner, who had borrowed a large amount of cash and indicated he intended to cross the border to Zimbabwe for spiritual assistance due to issues at his workplace.

Police investigations revealed that the vehicle’s owner was with a man when he dropped off the Ford Ranger on January 17 at around 10 PM.
During their preliminary investigations, police found bloodstains inside the vehicle, two empty rifle cartridges, three empty 9mm pistol cartridges, one fragment of 9mm ammunition, six live 9mm rounds, two black 9mm pistol magazines (one with 15 rounds and one empty), and a pair of black gloves.
A 24-year-old suspect, believed to be involved in the incident, was arrested early Wednesday at his residence in Tshamutumbu.
He was found with two firearms, including a hunting rifle with ammunition, after an intelligence-driven operation by police in Musina.
At the time, the vehicle’s owner and his wife, originally from Mutale in Limpopo, were still missing.
Further investigation led to the discovery of the 29-year-old woman’s body, with multiple gunshot wounds, on Wednesday night, in bushes along the N1 in Kromdraai, Free State. Said Ledwaba:

Preliminary investigation revealed that the husband, who was supposed to be travelling with the deceased, passed the Verkeerdeveli toll gate alone in the same bakkie on January 17. It was at the turn-off in Kromdraai where the woman’s body was discovered.

The provincial police commissioner in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, strongly condemned the “senseless shooting” that resulted in the woman’s death.
The South African Police Service is searching for the deceased woman’s husband, Dakalo Nemangwele, 34, who they believe can assist in the murder investigation.

South African Man Allegedly Fled To Zimbabwe After The Brutal Murder Of His Wife

A 50-year-old man named Albert Tsuma from Bulawayo was murdered on Tuesday by a man he had given a ride to on Randun Road in Upper Rangemore.
According to the ZRP, the suspect strangled Tsuma using the car’s seat belt.
The police confirmed that Tsuma was driving with his son in a Honda CRV when he stopped to offer a lift to the suspect.
During the ride, the suspect pulled out a gun and ordered Tsuma to follow an unregistered BMW that was in front of them. Police posted on X:

ZRP is investigating a case of murder which occurred along Randun Road, Upper Rangemore, Bulawayo on 21/01/25 in which Albert Tsuma (50) died.
The victim and his son who were travelling in a Honda CRV offered a lift to an unknown male suspect before he produced a firearm and instructed them to follow an unregistered BMW which was in front of them.
The suspect strangled the victim with a seat belt after the vehicle had run out of fuel and he drove off in a BMW vehicle.
Subsequently, the victim passed away and his body was conveyed to Bulawayo Hospital for post-mortem.

The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and share what they know at their nearest police station.

Albert Tsuma, a 50-year-old man from Bulawayo, was killed by a hitchhiker he gave a ride to. The hitchhiker strangled Tsuma using the car's seatbelt. The police said Tsuma was driving with his son when he offered a lift to the hitchhiker. The hitchhiker then pulled out a gun and made them follow another car. After the car ran out of fuel, the hitchhiker strangled Tsuma with the seatbelt and drove off in a BMW. Tsuma died, and the police are investigating. They are asking for anyone with information to come forward.

A 30-year-old man from Mwenezi, Masvingo Province, is facing charges of murder and attempted murder after he fatally assaulted his wife and injured his mother-in-law in a fit of rage on Sunday.
The suspect, Trust Bhonde, is currently in police custody following the violent incident involving his wife, Nollen Rivete (27), and his mother-in-law, Manyuke Sasai (50).
According to a statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Bhonde set fire to a hut where his wife and mother-in-law were sleeping in Sikomo Village, Mwenezi.
When the two women managed to escape the flames, Bhonde struck his mother-in-law on the head with a hoe before attacking his wife multiple times.
Rivete suffered severe head injuries and later died, while Sasai also sustained head injuries and lost consciousness. Reads the Police statement:

The ZRP confirms the arrest of Trust Bhonde (30) in connection with a case of murder and attempted murder which occurred at Sikomo Village, Mwenezi on 12/01/25 in which his wife, Nollen Rivete (27) died.

Subsequently, the suspect went on to strike his mother in-law on the head with a hoe before hitting his wife several times on the head as they escaped from the burning hut.
Resultantly, Manyuke Sasai sustained head injuries and became unconscious while Nollen Rivete sustained head injuries and succumbed to the injuries.

In a separate case, Police in Budiriro are investigating the murder of an unidentified adult male whose body was found floating in a stream in Budiriro, Harare on Tuesday.
The victim had bruises on his back and thighs, and was wearing a pair of blue jeans, a black t-shirt, white socks, and white sneakers.

30-Year-Old Man Kills Wife, Injures Mother-in-Law In Brutal Attack

A 25-year-old woman from Triangle in the South East Lowveld has been charged with murder after allegedly throwing her two young daughters into a water canal before attempting suicide last week.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said Blessing Chiromonye was arraigned before the Chiredzi Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was remanded in custody to January 23, 2025. Said the NPA:

Allegations are that, on the 8th January 2025, the accused threw her two daughters aged 4 and 8 into the main water canal, Triangle, resulting in their drowning and death. 
The accused person tried to commit suicide by jumping into the canal but was thrown out by the water. She went home and changed her wet clothes and tried to flee. 
The driver of the commuter omnibus she took was tipped about what had transpired and drove the accused person back. A police report was made, leading to her arrest.

In an earlier statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said Chiromonyo took her daughters—aged three and seven—and jumped into the canal.
The children were swept away by the strong current, tragically drowning, while Chiromonyo was able to escape from the water unharmed.
Investigations by the Police established that the incident occurred after Chiromonyo had accused her husband of infidelity.

A woman named Blessing Chiromonye has been accused of throwing her two daughters, aged 4 and 8, into a canal, causing their deaths. She tried to commit suicide but was stopped by the water. She changed clothes and tried to run away, but the driver of the bus she took brought her back. The police arrested her. Earlier, she had jumped into the canal with her other two daughters, aged 3 and 7, because she accused her husband of cheating. She survived, but the children drowned. Chiromonye is now in custody, waiting for a court date in January 2025.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police have confirmed two chilling murder cases that unfolded over the weekend, evoking shock and horror in the community.
In separate incidents, a father beheaded his son, and a man was killed over a pot containing sadza and chicken.
In the first case, a 32-year-old man from Daakoni Village in Buhera faces murder charges after allegedly beheading his 11-year-old son on Friday.
Tawanda Magoso reportedly returned home from a shrine where he had gone for prayers, retrieved an axe from his bedroom, and attacked his son.
The community rallied together, apprehending Magoso and escorting him to the local police station. Said the ZRP:

The ZRP reports that Tawanda Magoso (32) was arrested in connection with a case of murder which occurred at his house in Daakoni Village, Buhera on 10/01/25 in which his son, Taonga Magoso (11) died. 
The suspect allegedly returned home from a shrine where he had gone for prayers and took an axe from his bedroom which he used to strike the victim indiscriminately all over the body.
The victim’s head separated from its torso and sustained multiple injuries on the back. Resultantly, the victim succumbed to the injuries.
The suspect was later apprehended with the help of members of the community.

The second case occurred the following day in Village Midzi, Masvingo, where 41-year-old Makneme Chikutuva was arrested in connection with the murder of 42-year-old Maxwell Manjonjo.
Chikutuva allegedly assaulted Manjonjo with ox yoke leather straps after accusing him of stealing a pot filled with sadza and chicken.
When Chikutuva noticed that Manjonjo was struggling to breathe, he callously carried him to Musingarahwi Business Centre and abandoned him there.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has also launched a manhunt for Takunda Gwitira, who is also being sought in connection with the murder case.

The suspect hit the victim, Maxwell Mahanzu (32) with a stone after the victim mocked him, claiming that he was gay since he was wearing earrings. The victim died on the spot.

In Zimbabwe, being referred to as gay is considered an insult, despite homosexuality and lesbianism being normalised in many Western countries.
Former President Robert Mugabe frequently spoke out against homosexuality, characterising gay people as “worse than dogs and pigs.”

Harare Man (32) Stoned To Death Over Gay Taunt

29-year-old Felix Maphosa from Gaza E, Chipinge, appeared in the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 6, 2025, facing murder charges.
He is accused of killing his 47-year-old wife by striking her in the head with a hammer and driving a nail into her chest.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute that arose on December 31, 2024.
Maphosa allegedly discovered that his wife was taking birth control pills without his knowledge, which triggered a heated argument that sadly turned fatal.
During the altercation, Maphosa reportedly struck his wife three times on the head with an iron bar. He then used a hammer to drive a nail into her chest.
After the attack, he left for a beer hall, only to return the following morning to find her dead.
Maphosa has been remanded in custody until January 17, 2025, and he has been advised to apply for bail at the high court.

Chipinge Man Charged With Murder After Hitting A Nail Into Wife's Chest

A tragic incident occurred on January 2, 2025, in Gutu District, Masvingo Province, where a 46-year-old man allegedly murdered his 40-year-old wife before taking his own life.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Raramai Dhewa was found dead with multiple injuries in a kitchen hut.
Her husband, Fungai Chitsale, was later discovered hanging from a roof truss with a nylon rope in a two-bedroom house. Police said:

Police in Basera are investigating circumstances surrounding a case of murder and suicide which occurred at Utete Village, Chitsa, Gutu, Masvingo.

In a separate case, police in Filabusi are seeking information that could lead to the arrest of Zenzo Moyo (32), Ayanda Moyo (30), Nqobizita Moyo (34), Senly Moyo (29), Paul Ndlovu (36), and Donald Sibanda (30).
The suspects are wanted in connection with a murder that took place on January 3, 2025, at Village 16 B, Nkankezi.
They allegedly attacked the victim, Talent Hlongwane (29), with spears, axes, and machetes, accusing him of being a bully.

Husband Kills Wife And Then Commits Suicide

A Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) officer was stabbed to death by her uncle around 8 AM on Christmas Day in Bulilima District, Matabeleland South. Police suspect it was a revenge attack.
The suspect, Khuliso Tshuma (35), who recently benefited from the Presidential amnesty, was arrested in connection with the murder of his niece, Priscilla Tshuma.
According to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/zpcs-officer-stabbed-to-death-by-uncle/">Chronicle</a>, nine years ago, Khuliso was convicted of raping Tshuma and sentenced to prison in 2016. He was released in April this year under the Presidential amnesty programme.
The officer commanding police in Bulilima-Mangwe District, Chief Superintendent Cabinet Thomas, confirmed the murder. He said:

The suspect used an Okapi knife to stab the deceased twice, once in the neck and once on the arm.
Priscilla was sweeping the house while the suspect was drinking beer on the veranda. Without warning, he attacked her.

Tshuma’s grandmother, Sibusisiwe Ndlovu, attempted to administer first aid, but unfortunately, she was unsuccessful.
Khuliso fled the scene immediately after the attack but was apprehended later that day, approximately seven kilometres from the crime scene.
The police recovered the Okapi knife used in the attack. Chief Superintendent Thomas added:

We arrested the suspect some seven kilometres away from the scene of the crime. Investigations revealed that the suspect is an ex-convict who had been incarcerated for raping the now deceased.

ZPCS spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Meya Khanyezi, expressed condolences on behalf of the organisation. She said:

As Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Tshuma family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, and we are committed to ensuring that all necessary actions are taken to bring the culprit to book.
Our thoughts are with the Tshuma family and the entire ZPCS family as we seek to find answers and bring justice to those affected.

Priscilla was a newlywed and mother to a child under three years old and was an accomplished football player for the ZPCS women’s team, a traditional powerhouse in Zimbabwe’s Women’s Premier Soccer League.
She was laid to rest on Monday, December 30.

ZPCS Officer Fatally Stabbed By Uncle Who Raped Her Nine Years Ago

Bridget Makaza, who is accused of fatally shooting her husband, MacCloud Zvavaviri Mapanga, the owner of Kurai Coaches, in May 2018 at their home in Strathaven, Harare, has surrendered to the police after more than five years of being at large, reported <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/kurai-coaches-owners-killer-stops-running-hands-self-over-to-police/">The Herald</a>.
Makaza allegedly shot her husband after accusing him of marrying a third wife. At the time, she was 34 years old and living at 56 Kenworth, Coventry in the UK. 
Following her initial arrest, she appeared before Harare Magistrate Nyasha Vhitorini on a murder charge.
After being granted bail, she disappeared, prompting a police search. On Monday, she voluntarily surrendered to the CID Homicide in Harare and is expected to appear in court soon.

Woman Accused Of Killing Kurai Coaches Owner Surrenders To Police

Police in Midlands Province have urged the public not to take the law into their own hands following a tragic incident in Gokwe North District.
A father, Trymore Hora, is now facing a murder charge after allegedly fatally assaulting his 14-year-old son, Charlton Hora, with a sjambok.
The assault occurred after Trymore accused Charlton of raping his two-and-a-half-year-old sister.
Instead of celebrating Christmas together, the family from Matemazondo in Nembudziya found themselves grappling with the horrors of rape and murder just hours apart.
The incident unfolded on December 23, when Trymore allegedly attacked Charlton. The boy suffered severe injuries and tragically vomited blood before passing away the following day.
Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the spokesperson for the ZRP in Midlands Province, confirmed the incident to <a href="https://newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local/article/200036452/double-tragedy-for-gokwe-family-during-festive-season">Southern Eye</a>. He said:

A case of murder happened where a 14-year-old boy (Charlton Hora) died after being assaulted by his father on accusations of raping his two-and-half-year-old sister. The incident occurred on December 23, 2024, at around 1730 hours.
</blockquote>
It is alleged that on the fateful day, Hora’s wife, Raviro Chapanda, went to the maize field where her husband and their now-deceased son were working.
He said when Hora’s wife was changing the minor’s diapers the baby cried. Said Mahoko:

Upon examining her, Chapanda discovered that she was bleeding from her private parts.
Chapanda suspected that her daughter could have been raped. She informed her husband…and he interrogated the now-deceased Charlton Hora.
He went on to take a sjambok and assaulted the now deceased all over the body until he admitted that he had raped his sister in the afternoon.

Mahoko said on Christmas Eve at around 2 AM, the boy vomited before he became unconscious and passed away. He said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, saying the baby had been left on the bed by her mother while she attended to household chores. Police said:

In a fit of rage, he reportedly assaulted his son with a sjambok, striking him indiscriminately across his body.
Chalton began vomiting and tragically passed away on Christmas Eve.

Memory Moyana (20) from Mabvuku, appeared before the Harare magistrates court for allegedly fatally assaulting her four-year-old daughter, <a href="https://www.thestandard.co.zw/news/article/200036348/woman-beats-daughter-to-death">reported The Standard</a>.
She was remanded in custody to January 02, 2025, by Magistrate Rufaro Panavanhu, who also advised her to approach the High Court for bail.
Prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu alleged that on December 16, a neighbour, Lorraine Makore, saw Moyana whipping her daughter.
Makore later saw the child emerging from the house with bruises on her chest and mouth, as well as bloodstained clothes.
Makore confronted Moyana for assaulting her daughter. Moyana then dragged her daughter into the house, and that was the last time she was seen alive.
Later that day, Moyana and her husband were seen carrying the lifeless body of their daughter to visit a prophet.
The prophet declared the child dead, and a police report was filed, leading to Moyana’s arrest.

While his death was initially classified as a suicide, the narrative changed when Nleya’s military connections were revealed, raising suspicions about the circumstances surrounding his demise.
During a parliamentary debate on the Death Penalty Abolition Bill last week, Senator Lwazi Sibanda, a cousin of the late Nleya, suggested that he may have been murdered. She said:

Some are known, some are unknown; some are in prison and brag about killing those they have killed.
It is painful in our hearts to say that sentencing these people to death does not serve our country.
Killing them like animals does not matter to us.
People will die. People will be killed by those we show remorse to, who don’t even show any remorse to us.”
It is so painful that I stand here defending people who will go out and kill their grandparents, or their mothers, simply because there was no food to cook for dinner. They will kill them just because their mother failed to provide food for them.
It is painful to spare a murderer who shows no remorse, like someone who kills a helpless young woman walking home after work just to steal her bag.
When they realise they’ve been seen, they kill her to prevent identification. They don’t care about tomorrow—they put a knife in her heart to save themselves.
There is so much pain caused by these murderers that we are still defending as a country.
We will keep them in prison for years, just to protect them from death, while they show no care for this nation.
I have so much more to say about the abolition of the death penalty.

In a separate incident on Saturday, a 30-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the chest during an altercation over beer at a bar in Chiredzi.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed both incidents in a statement which reads:

Man Accidentally Kills Own Child During A Dispute With Wife

A police officer from Buhera, Cuthbert Mupfuki, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the High Court after brutally murdering his wife, Brenda Manyara, with an Okapi knife. The attack occurred amid rumours that she was seeing another man, reported <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/police-officer-kills-wife-over-infidelity-rumours/">The Manica Post</a>.
Mupfuki, 37, from Nechiwowe Village in Chief Nyashanu, was found guilty of murder under Section 47(1) (a) or (b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23. At the time of the crime, he was a member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Support Unit, Sierra Troop, in Changadzi.
During sentencing, Mutare High Court Judge Justice Isaac Muzenda said he considered that Mupfuki had paid 30 head of cattle as reparation to the deceased’s family.
The court heard that on October 10 2023, Mupfuki stabbed Manyara multiple times, resulting in her death at the scene. A post-mortem conducted by Dr Elisha Murasiranwa at Birchenough Bridge Hospital determined that respiratory failure due to trauma was the cause of death.
Witness Constance Gwemba, a niece of the victim, testified that she was at Mupfuki’s home with Manyara and other family members when Mupfuki invited Manyara to their bedroom.
Shortly after, Gwemba heard screams for help but found the door locked. Peering through a window, she saw Mupfuki pressing Manyara against the wall while accusing her of wanting to degrade him by dating a local villager, Joseph Murwisi.
Mupfuki later dragged Manyara’s body to the passage and opened the door, walking away while declaring it was better for him to be in prison than with a “cheating” wife. Gwemba discovered Manyara lying on the floor, bleeding profusely from her chest and with a deep cut on her left hand.
At around 9 PM that evening, Mupfuki called villager Chipo Madidi, instructing her to gather everyone at the homestead. When he returned, he stated that he knew why he had killed Manyara.
Another witness, Mupfuki’s daughter Barbra, recounted hearing her mother being beaten and later witnessing her father emerge, claiming he would turn himself in to the police.
Madidi testified that when she arrived at the scene, she found Manyara’s lifeless body in the sitting room. Mupfuki admitted over the phone that he had killed Manyara due to her supposed affair with Joseph Murwisi.
Murwisi himself testified that on the evening of the incident, he was attacked by Mupfuki while cycling home.
Mupfuki struck him with a log, causing him to fall. Despite his injuries, Murwisi managed to escape, leaving his bicycle and groceries behind.
After the attack, Murwisi heard people crying at Mupfuki’s home; he sustained bruises and a swollen arm from the assault.

Police Officer Gets 15 Years For Killing Wife In Jealous Rage

A man accused of murder nine years ago recently stirred emotions in his community when he returned to the scene of the crime under police guard for a reconstruction exercise.
The incident took place in Bilingoma Village, Ward 5, Matjinge, Plumtree, Matabeleland South Province.
According to <a href="https://cite.org.zw/haunted-by-victims-ghost-murder-suspect-returns-to-crime-scene-nine-years-later/">CITE</a>, the accused, Costine Moyo, allegedly killed and buried his victim in that very location in 2015.
A local villager, speaking to CITE, revealed that Moyo had been jailed for the crime but was released in 2014. Added the villager:

In 2016, he raped two women in Matjinge and Gambo, then evaded police by hiding in the Tsholotsho bush, where he committed another rape before being caught.

Witnesses told CITE that Moyo arrived in the village under police escort, who announced that he was there to assist in locating the remains of a person allegedly murdered near the Big Bite shops in 2015.
According to local sources, a woman named Loveness Dube played a role in the incident by allegedly helping Moyo lure the victim, claiming she had arranged a job for him in Lupane. Said a villager:

The victim, unaware, travelled with Dube to Bulawayo, where he was met by Moyo and others at Big Bite shops.
They gave him alcohol and killed him later that night. Moyo confessed that Big Bite took parts of the victim’s body – including his head, hand, foot and private parts – and burned the remains with 10 litres of petrol.

Villagers claimed that the morning after the murder, Dube discovered bones, a satchel, and a birth certificate at the site.
Unable to read, Moyo began using the birth certificate without realising it revealed the identity of the deceased.
During his conversations with the villagers, Moyo disclosed that four people were involved in the murder: Big Bite, Loveness, Tendai, and another unnamed individual.
He claimed that he had been haunted by the victim, who appeared in his dreams demanding to be taken home.
The villagers also said Moyo confessed that Big Bite had promised him R20 000 but did not pay it.

Murder Suspect Returns To Crime Scene 9 Years Later, Claims Harassment By Victim's Ghost

A 23-year-old Zimbabwean man, identified by friends as Saymore, was stabbed to death in Leeds, West Yorkshire, around midnight on Tuesday, reported <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/grief-as-zimbabwean-man-stabbed-to-death-in-leeds-united-kingdom/">ZimLive</a>.
Police confirmed the murder, saying that Saymore received emergency treatment at the scene before being taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Initial reports indicate that he was attacked inside a ground-floor flat in the Belle Isle area by three males who fled the scene.
A search, aided by a police helicopter, led to the arrest of two suspects aged 18 and 16 in the Middleton area shortly afterwards.
The suspects were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and are being investigated in connection with the murder.
The West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team is leading the investigation and has confirmed the teenagers’ arrests.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle said:

Our investigation remains in its very early stages, and we are still building up a picture of the circumstances in which this young man has been fatally attacked.

We recognise that people in the community will be shocked by what has happened and I want to reassure them that we are treating this incident very seriously and liaising closely with our district policing colleagues who will be maintaining an increased presence in the area.

Zimbabwean Man Fatally Stabbed In Leeds, United Kingdom

A security guard accidentally shot and killed a 36-year-old man while clearing a rifle at Singari Mine, Saruwe on Friday evening.
According to ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the security guard, Anthony Mutafera (21), accidentally pulled the trigger of a .303 rifle and fatally shot Innocent Maruku while clearing the weapon.
Mutafera has been arrested in connection with the incident and is assisting police with their investigations.
In a separate but equally tragic incident, police in Murereka have arrested Goodwill Love (25) in connection with a murder that occurred on Friday at Fairplay Farm near Risheng Mine, Chikuti.
The victim, Benny Chidiwa, was allegedly assaulted with a shovel and logs by Love and two accomplices, Bigboy and Brave, who are also accused of burning Chidiwa’s feet with firewood after accusing him of stealing a cellphone.
In yet another murder case, the body of an unidentified man was found at a church shrine in the Chirasavana area of Dema, Seke on Friday.
The body was covered with a blanket and had a cut on the head. A blood-stained stone was recovered from the scene.
Police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist their investigation.

Kadoma businessman Eric Tambudze was reportedly shot dead by unknown assailants at his home in West View last Friday.
Tambudze was a multifaceted entrepreneur; he was a farmer, a pharmacist, and operated a chain of bookstores, in addition to being involved in gold mining.
His son, Leslie, told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200034537/kadoma-businessman-brutally-killed">NewsDay</a> that the assailants did not steal anything from the scene. He said:

I don’t have much to say but that’s what happened. My father was shot dead upon arriving home from work by some people last Friday.
</blockquote>
The spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Mashonaland West Province, Inspector Ian Kohwera, directed all inquiries to national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, who said he would issue a statement on Monday.
Eric Tambudze is survived by his wife and two children.

Kadoma Businessman Killed In Cold Blood

Edwin Muchekayawa, a Zvishavane man, was on 12 October 2024, convicted and sentenced to 24 years in prison by the High Court sitting at Gweru for murder.
Muchekayawa was 22 years old when he committed the crime, and the victim, Passmore Shumba, was 25.
Allegations were that on 19 August 2023, Muchekayawa went to Shumba’s homestead around 11 PM. Shumba was married to Muchekayawa’s ex-girlfriend.
Upon arrival, Muchekayawa knocked on the window and called Shumba’s name. When Shumba came out, Muchekayawa struck him with a stone using a catapult on the ribs.
Muchekayawa then fled the scene, and Shumba did not see who had assaulted him.
The following morning at around 7 AM, Shumba, Tawanda Shumba, and Chengeto Nyadzo tracked Muchekayawa’s footprints in an attempt to find the person who had shot Shumba with a catapult the previous day. The spoor led to Muchekayawa’s homestead.
They threatened to report Muchekayawa to the headman. As they were leaving his homestead, Muchekayawa armed himself with an axe and chased them.
The men ran in different directions. The deceased fell to the ground, whereupon Muchekayawa caught up with him and struck him with the axe once on the head, behind the ear, leading to his death.
Muchekayawa fled the scene soon after, leaving the deceased lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of Muchekayawa.

A man named Edwin Muchekayawa was sent to prison for 24 years for hurting and killing his ex-girlfriend's husband named Passmore Shumba. He first attacked Shumba with a stone, then later with an axe. Zvishavane Man Murders Ex-Girlfriend's Husband, Sentenced To 24 Years

A Shurugwi man who brutally murdered his two girlfriends has been sentenced to two life sentences by the High Court.
Emmanuel Mahembe, convicted on murder charges on Wednesday, 25 September, was 37 years old at the time of the offences. The High Court session took place in Gweru.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed Mahembe’s sentence on Friday, September 27, saying he lured unsuspecting women into relationships before committing the murders. Said the NPA:

Sometime between August 2021 and September 2022, the accused person met with the first deceased, his girlfriend (aged 37 at the time) at Donga, Chachacha Business Centre, Shurugwi.
The two drove the now deceased’s motor vehicle, a Honda Fit, to the Dhanga dip tank where the accused person murdered the deceased.
He wrapped the body in a blanket and buried it along the Gwamamvura River bed before driving off in her motor vehicle. He later sold the motor vehicle.
On the 22nd of May 2021 the accused person met with the second deceased, his other girlfriend (aged 35 at the time).
The two drove off to the second deceased’s sister’s home in Shurugwi. Along the way, the two had a misunderstanding over money.
The argument escalated and the accused person murdered the deceased and dumped the body in a disused mine shaft at Mutevekwi Bridge.
After killing the deceased, the accused wickedly impersonated the deceased and preyed on her son’s emotional vulnerability and cunningly convinced him to send money to the deceased’s Ecocash account, which money he diverted to personal use.
He also continued driving around in the deceased’s motor vehicle, a Honda Fit.

The matter came to light when the deceased’s relatives became suspicious and alerted the Police leading to Mahembe’s arrest.

He was part of a specialised police unit assigned to apprehend two armed robbery suspects, Tichaona Muzhanduki and Doubt Munsaka, at Radway Farm.
Upon arriving at the farm, the team of officers divided into four groups to surround the residence strategically.
Tafirenyika, along with a colleague, was armed with service rifles. When the police knocked on the door and identified themselves, the now-deceased person opened the door.
As soon as the door was opened, Tafirenyika discharged his firearm multiple times, striking the deceased in the chest and arms, and killing him instantly.
Following the incident, Tafirenyika was charged for murder and found guilty. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Friday, 20 September.
In recent years, there have been serious allegations against police conducting extra-judicial executions, especially on suspected armed robbers during “indications”.
On Thursday, 19 September, President Emmerson Mnangagwa swore in the members of the Zimbabwe Independent Complaints Commission (ZICC) which will be responsible for investigating complaints of misconduct against members of the security services, including the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), and Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS).

A police officer named Mitch Tafirenyika shot and killed an armed robbery suspect named Tichaona Muzhanduki at Radway Farm. He was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 20 years in jail. Police Officer Jailed 20 Years For Killing Armed Robbery Suspect

The Midlands Province has the highest rate of murder cases in the country, with 90% of these incidents involving lethal weapons, according to the National Prosecution Authority (NPA).
In a recent series of murder cases handled by the courts, some offences involved police officers, including a case involving Officer Mitch Tafirenyika.
Tafirenyika, who was aged 28 at the time he committed the offence, was accused of murder and appeared before a Gweru magistrate last week.
He had been part of a special unit assigned to apprehend two armed robbery suspects, Tichaona Muzhanduki and Doubt Munsaka, at a local farm. Said the NPA:

Tafirenyika and a colleague were armed with service rifles and proceeded to the farm, where upon arrival they split into four groups and surrounded the house. The now-deceased opened the door after the police had knocked on the door.
</blockquote>
Tafirenyika immediately opened fire and shot the deceased in the chest and arms, killing him instantly. He will receive his sentence this Friday.
In another case, a 34-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison for two counts of murder. Courage Hwami appeared before the High Court in Gweru, facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
The first count pertains to an incident on December 4, 2023, involving Hwami, a 19-year-old victim, and a complainant at the Vhudzijena Night Club in Mkoba 16 Business Centre.
During their time at the club, a misunderstanding escalated between Hwami and the deceased. Reads the document:

The two fought, and the security officer at the club restrained them. After a while, the accused person charged towards the deceased, who was with the complainant, and stabbed him with a Columbia knife once on the left side of the chest and the back.
</blockquote>
Hwami gave chase to the complainant and stabbed him once in the chest outside the bar before fleeing the scene. The deceased died on the spot as a result of the attack.
Hwami was eventually arrested, tried, convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the first count of murder and was given an additional 10-year sentence for count two.
In yet another case, a 20-year-old Shurugwi man was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for killing his cousin over a plate of sadza. Said the NPA:

Tawanda Chinyati (20) appeared before the High Court sitting at Gweru on murder charges. The accused person and the now-deceased are cousins.
On 24 February 2024 the accused person and the now deceased, aged 23 at the time the offence was committed, were at home where supper was served. 
The family of four was supposed to eat in pairs. The deceased refused to share his plate saying that he was the eldest.
The accused person and the other two shared one plate and the deceased ate alone. When the now deceased finished his food he joined the other three and started eating their food.
An argument arose between the accused person and the now-deceased and the now-deceased slapped the accused person once on the face.
The accused person walked away and returned with a flick knife which he used to stab the now-deceased once in the chest before fleeing the scene.
The deceased was taken to Shurugwi District Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The accused person was convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

In Mvuma, Trust Khaki was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of his 15-month-old daughter.
The crime occurred in 2021 when his wife left the infant in his care while she went to collect the family’s share of social welfare donations. Said the NPA:

When the deceased’s mother returned, she found the accused holding the deceased, who was struggling to breathe, with bruises on her chin, a swollen left side, a bump on her forehead, and a scratch on her back.
The deceased was rushed to her grandmother, where they established that she was already dead.

It was discovered during investigations that the deceased had been struck once on the head with a blunt object and several times all over the body with an unknown object. It was also established that the deceased had been sexually abused.

The Midlands Province has the most murder cases, many involving weapons. A police officer, Tafirenyika, shot and killed someone. Another man, Hwami, stabbed two people at a club. Chinyati killed his cousin over food. Trust Khaki was convicted for killing his daughter. The daughter had injuries and was sexually abused. These cases show how serious and dangerous murder is, and people can go to jail for a long time for committing such crimes. It is important to always resolve conflicts peacefully and not resort to violence.

Midlands Province Tops Murder Cases, 90% Of Killings Involve Lethal Weapons

Cai Yulong, a Chinese national operating Stone Steel Blue Mine in Zhombe, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of one miner, the injury of another, and assaulting yet another individual.
On Wednesday, September 18, the National Prosecuting Authority reported that Cai was arraigned before the High Court sitting at Gokwe, where he was charged with three offences: murder, attempted murder, and assault. Said the NPA:

On the 26th of May 2024 the deceased and his workmates, employed by Black Hand 10 Mine were on duty, underground constructing a barricade at an area where their mine meets that of the accused.
As they were working, the accused person approached and fired gunshots at them. They fled the scene towards the exit point and the accused person pursued them.
The accused person shot the now deceased in the thigh who died as a result of the gunshot wound.
He also shot one of the deceased’s workmates in the knee and thigh before proceeding to assault the other on the head using his fists.
A Police report was made leading to the arrest of the accused person.
He was convicted and sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for murder. He was sentenced to a further 5 years imprisonment for attempted murder. 
Both sentences will run concurrently. He was also sentenced to a fine of US$100 for assault, in default, 1 month imprisonment.

In a report in June 2024, the NPA said Cai (58), shot and killed a man from Chief Njelele in Gokwe and injured his colleague after they encroached into his mine in Zhombe.
It said Cai, from Stone Still Mine 10, Marandure Farm, Zhombe appeared before the Kwekwe Magistrates’ court facing one count of murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of assault. The NPA said at the time:

On the 26th of May 2024 Goni Goni (23), Komborerai Shariwa (24), John Muchawaya (34) and Lovemore Mapfanya (20) all of Village Tirivanhu, Chief Njelele, Gokwe were working underground at Blackhand 10 Mine, Zhombe, Kwekwe.
The four encroached into another shaft at Blue Belle Mine, Zhombe which is owned by the accused person.
Allegations are that the accused person who was armed with a pistol approached them and shot Goni Goni once in the left thigh. He died on the spot.
He is also alleged to have shot John Muchawaya thrice: once on the left knee, once on the right ankle and once on the left thigh.
Muchawaya sustained three gunshot wounds and he is currently admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital.
Further allegations are that the accused person hit Lovemore Mapfanya once on the head with a fist.
Mapfanya fled from the scene and filed a Police report leading to the arrest of the accused person.

A Chinese man named Cai Yulong has been sentenced to 30 years in jail for killing a man and injuring others in a mine in Gokwe, Zimbabwe. Cai shot at the miners and chased after them, killing one and injuring others. He was found guilty of murder, attempted murder, and assault. Cai's sentences will run concurrently, meaning they will happen at the same time. The incident happened in May 2024, and Cai was arrested soon after. Chinese Miner Sentenced To 30 Years In Jail For Killing Gokwe Man

A Zimbabwean woman and her South African friend were allegedly shot dead in South Africa’s Limpopo province and their remains were fed to pigs by a local farmer.
35-year-old Locadia Ndlovhu, her husband Mabutho Ncube, and Ndlovhu’s 45-year-old friend Maria Makgato were reportedly searching for discarded food at a dumpsite on Onvervaght Farm in Sebayeng, outside Polokwane, when they were attacked.
Ndlovhu and Makgato were killed, while Ncube managed to escape with serious injuries and was able to recount the horrific incident.
The farm owner, 60-year-old Zachariah Olivier, along with two of his employees – 19-year-old Adriaan de Wet and 45-year-old Zimbabwean national William Musoro – have since been arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as defeating the ends of justice.
Musoro faces an additional charge of contravening the Immigration Act.
The accused persons have appeared before the Mankweng Magistrates Court, and the matter has been postponed to August 30 this year for a formal bail application.
In a statement, Limpopo province police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said:

The suspects were arrested after the discovery of two decomposed women’s bodies in a pigsty on a farm in Sebayeng, outside Mankweng, on August 20.
The arrests followed a thorough investigation by the Provincial Tracking Team and Murder and Robbery Unit.
The investigation began when a 45-year-old South African woman went missing after visiting the farm on August 17, accompanied by a 35-year-old foreign national woman.
Both women sustained gunshot wounds and a 47-year-old foreign national man, who was with them, was also shot and hospitalised.

Capricorn District Municipality Executive Mayor Mamedupi Teffo said they are vehemently opposed to granting bail to the accused. Said Teffo:

What is disturbing about this incident is that not only did the perpetrators shoot them, but they also fed them to the pigs after they killed them.
We are going to come here on August 30 when the three accused appear so that we show our dissatisfaction and so that they do not also get bail.

Zimbabwean Woman Killed In South Africa, Remains Fed To Pigs

A 29-year-old man from Rujeko C in Masvingo was on July 27, 2024, fatally stabbed in a kombi altercation involving two women and some men.
The ZRP spokesperson for Masvingo Province, Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the murder of Nyararayi Siyavizwa to <a href="https://x.com/TellZimbabwe/status/1818536664504865017">TellZim News</a>. Dhewa said three suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. He said:

I can confirm the murder of Siyavizwa (29) and three suspects have since been arrested in line with the case.
We call upon members of the public to desist from resolving disputes using violence. At no point shall violence substitute dialogue.
</blockquote>
It is alleged that Siyavizwa, along with his two friends Tinotenda Mateo (19) and Andrew Chapwanya (20), boarded a commuter omnibus (Toyota Hiace) on their way home from the Chibuku Neshamwari Festival held at Mucheke Stadium on July 27, 2024.
During the journey, Siyavizwa became embroiled in an altercation with three other passengers in the kombi – Alouis Charles Dhangu Madembo (25) from Vanyoro Village, Chief Nyakunhuwa in Zaka, Rosemary Gave (29) from Garapasi village in Chirumhanzi, Masvingo, and Viola Linia Tasara (34) from Musovi Village, Chief Nemauzhe in Chivi.
When the group disembarked the kombi at the intersection of Corner Kelvin Majange Street and Enard Manyimo Gutsa, it is alleged that one of the accused individuals grabbed Siyavizwa while another stabbed him just below the collarbone with a sharp object. The perpetrators then fled the scene.
Siyavizwa’s friends, Mateo and Chapwanya, tried to assist, but were unable to stop the bleeding, leading to Siyavizwa’s death at the location.
They subsequently reported the incident to the police, resulting in the arrest of Madembo, Gave and Tasara.

A man from Masvingo was killed in a fight on a minibus. The police caught three people in connection with the murder. The man, along with his friends, got into an argument with other passengers in the minibus. When they got off the minibus, one of the passengers stabbed the man. His friends tried to help, but he died from the stab wound. The friends reported the incident to the police, and three suspects were arrested. The police advise people to not solve arguments with violence.

Masvingo Man Fatally Stabbed In Kombi Altercation

A teacher at Jeche Primary School was allegedly murdered by his wife following a dispute over money.
The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Douglas Jeche, a teacher at the local school which is located near Sadza Growth Point.
The murder occurred when Jeche allegedly transferred his salary from his bank account to his EcoCash mobile money wallet, without informing his wife, Memory Choga (41).
Choga, unaware of the transfer, tried to withdraw money from her husband’s account but was unable to do so.
Upon returning home, Choga is said to have confronted Jeche and assaulted him with a log, resulting in injuries that ultimately led to his death.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/wife-kills-husband-over-salary/">The Herald</a>. He said:

On July 19, 2024, Memory Choga (41) was arrested in connection with a case of murder which occurred at Jeche Primary School, Sadza, in which her husband Douglas Choga (45) died.
The suspect indiscriminately assaulted the victim with a log following a misunderstanding after the husband had transferred his monthly salary from his bank account into his EcoCash account.
The husband sustained multiple wounds all over the body and he succumbed to the injuries.
