There is an audio clip going around on social media featuring Morgan Tsvangirai, the late former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe. In the clip, Tsvangirai talks about the appointment of Nelson Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri as Vice Presidents of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). He clarifies that these appointments were not intended to undermine Thokozani Khupe, who had been elected by the MDC Congress. Tsvangirai also mentions that in his absence, Khupe would act on his behalf. He added:

If I’m not there, she acts on my behalf. In fact, let me say, party ino iyi (this party), we hope it’s not a one-off party. But isusu vana Tsvangirai we are just there for a period but the future is inherited by others who will take over the leadership. You have to understand please remove the idea that the appointment of other Vice Presidents was intended to undermine her.

The audio clip has emerged during an ongoing leadership crisis in the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa. Sengezo Tshabangu, claiming to be the party’s interim Secretary General, has recalled numerous CCC Parliamentarians and Councillors, causing further turmoil. Some believe this crisis is connected to the leadership crisis in the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) that led to the formation of the CCC.
During Morgan Tsvangirai’s last days in 2018, Chamisa, Thokozani Khupe, and Elias Mudzuri vied for leadership of the MDC. Chamisa eventually became the leader, with allegations that Tsvangirai had appointed him to lead the party that originated from Workers’ Unions in 1999. However, after the 2018 elections, the leadership dispute ended up in court, and the Supreme Court ruled that Chamisa had unlawfully assumed power and was not the legitimate leader of the party.
Following the Supreme Court ruling, the MDC’s 2014 structures were reinstated, with Douglas Mwonzora as the Secretary-General. Khupe assumed interim leadership, awaiting the Congress to elect permanent leadership. Before the congress, several individuals aligned with Chamisa were recalled from Parliament and local authorities. Dissatisfied officials joined forces with Chamisa and formed the CCC.
The CCC now faces its own leadership crisis, with some suggesting that it was orchestrated by the ruling ZANU PF party to dismantle the opposition. Others blame Tsvangirai’s appointments for the confusion in the opposition.

AUDIO: What Tsvangirai Said About Appointment Of Mudzuri, Chamisa And Undermining Khupe

Former Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Arthur Mutambara, has expressed regret about the failure of the opposition to push for political and electoral reforms during the Government of National Unity (GNU). Speaking in an interview with Alpha Media Holdings Chairman, Trevor Ncube, Mutambara highlighted the importance of carrying out political and electoral reforms during the GNU and lamented that they failed to deliver on this agenda. Mutambara said:

Some serious regrets. A key part of the agenda of the GNU was carrying out political reforms, electoral reforms. Zero out of 100. We failed to deliver political reforms we failed to deliver electoral reforms. That’s why the terrain is still problematic, because of our failure. We were very keen on delivering on the economy, the constitution, that we didn’t think about the post-GNU. What are we going to do post-GNU? We were so naive to the extent that we spent a lot of time doing good work on the economy, good work, constitution was another product we did okay but we failed to plan for the post-GNU in the sense that ZANU PF was working for us to be offloaded in 2013 and then continue on their own. So that post-GNU lack of planning was a failure and the issue of political reforms was a failure.

Asked why the GNU government failed to implement political reforms, Mutambara said:
<blockquote>
A coalition government is never the best way to run a country. It was a team of rivals and there has to be agreement on many things and ZANU PF was not interested in political reforms. Well, we didn’t try hard enough, but also it was a difficult exercise because it was a team of rivals where agreement was required for the implementation of those political reforms, but failure nontheless.

Mutambara also highlighted some of the successes of the GNU which include stabilising the economy following a 2008 hyperinflation. 
The Government of National Unity (GNU) in Zimbabwe was a coalition government formed in 2009 between three political parties: ZANU-PF, MDC-T, and MDC-M. The GNU was formed following the disputed 2008 elections and aimed to address Zimbabwe’s political and economic challenges. The GNU had three principals, one from each of the three political parties in the coalition government. They were: Robert Mugabe, President of Zimbabwe and the leader of the ruling party ZANU-PF; Morgan Tsvangirai, Prime Minister of Zimbabwe and the leader of the opposition party MDC-T, and Arthur Mutambara, Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe and the leader of the MDC-M, a breakaway faction of the MDC-T.

Mutambara Regrets Opposition's Failure To Push For Political Reforms During GNU

The Zimbabwean government has reportedly sold the late former <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Prime Minister</a> Morgan Tsvangirai’s Highlands house to his widow, Elizabeth Macheka after it had previously appeared to be willing to let the family have the house for free as part of his pension.
Although the government had originally wanted US$1.8 million for the house, it is understood that Tsvangirai’s widow negotiated and paid about US$1.5 million.
The house was initially bought by the government and allocated to Tsvangirai after he had boycotted the government in 2009 arguing that the house was not suitable for a Prime Minister. The issue caused controversy, with accusations that the late <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">opposition leader</a> had double-dipped during the process.
Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga visited Tsvangirai at the house in January 2018 – a month before he died – and subsequently the government assured his family it would not be evicted. At the time Mnangagwa’s spokesman George Charamba said:

Was he not a prime minister, why would he be evicted? And he retired under a constitution that recognised his office.

Following Mnangagwa’s visit to Tsvangirai’s official residence, the late former <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Prime Minister</a> left for <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">South Africa</a> for medical check-ups, with part of his medical bills paid for by the government. Unfortunately, he passed away on 14 February 2018 in Johannesburg due to colon cancer.
According to reports by The <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">News Hawks</a>, two weeks after his death, Mnangagwa wrote to Tsvangirai’s widow, technically taking control of the house and offering to sell it to her.
Elizabeth Tsvangirai clarified that she bought the property after her husband’s death as it belonged to the state until that time, and they were government tenants. She confirmed that they were offered to buy the house at market value, which they did exercise as per their right of first refusal.

Govt Sold Tsvangirai's House To Widow Elizabeth Macheka

Former <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_National_Students_Union">Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU)</a> spokesperson, Tatenda ‘Zuj’ Mandondo has deserted the opposition <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a> led by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a> and joined the ruling ZANU PF.
Mndondo described the CCC as a sinking ship which lacks seriousness.
He was part of scores of “deserters” unveiled and welcomed into the ruling party fold by President Emmerson Mnangagwa over the weekend. Mandondo spoke to <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/chamisas-ccc-a-sinking-ship-says-former-zinasu-leader-after-shock-move-to-zanu-pf/">NewZimbabwe</a>:

We all have choices and decisions to make in life that are necessary for national development and unity of purpose and for them to scrutinise thoroughly their continued stay in a sinking ship.
My decision to join Zanu-PF was made of full body and mind inspired by the need to assist in the National framework and be part of a collaborative and unified political outfit that does not exhibit traits of chaos, confusion and despondency.
The opposition lacks seriousness in its approach and is the lone voice of a lone man or elite individuals, however, with ZANU PF you easily understand the command structure and still have your voice considered and your efforts acknowledged.
The issue with some pressure groups masquerading as political parties is regrettable as they lack proper substance to capacitate the masses they claim to lead, they do not provide opportunities, the democracy narrative being toyed around with has shifted dramatically and drastically from the days of the late former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and if they continue on their self-destructive path they will soon be a mere memory on the horizon.

Mandondo was unveiled as a new member alongside late MDC founding President Morgan Tsvangirai’s brother Collins, who was coming from the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC Alliance.

Former ZINASU Leader Defects From CCC To ZANU PF

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Saturday welcomed hundreds of former opposition supporters who defected to ZANU PF including Collins Tsvangirai, the brother of the late MDC founding president Morgan Tsvangirai who died on Valentine’s Day in 2018.
Mnangagwa received the new members as part of ZANU PF’s “Huyai Kumusha Come Home Buyanini Ekhaya Muze Kumunzi” event held at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on Saturday.
Tsvangirai, former MDC MP for Masvingo Urban Tongai Matutu, former Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) spokesperson Tatenda Mandondo, former MDC MP for Kwekwe Central Blessing Chebundo, and former MDC Alliance Deputy Treasurer General Lillian Timveous were among them who were welcomed to ZANU PF.
Tsvangirai’s defection from the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC Alliance was confirmed last week while Chebundo and Timveous defected to ZANU PF a few years ago.
Addressing the gathering, Mnangagwa said ZANU PF structures should prepare themselves for an influx of former opposition supporters. <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/https-www-newzimbabwe-com-mnangagwa-welcomes-former-opposition-supporters-to-zanu-pf-including-late-opposition-icon-morgan-tsvangirais-brother/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> quoted Mnangagwa as saying:

Go and tell people that the revolution is ongoing and unstoppable. ZANU PF chitima chakafanana nenzou inongopfuura pamusha ichingo famba ichingo famba.
Under ZANU PF there is no small idea that is excluded from helping to uplift our people.
No one is more important than the other. Iye waunoshora anofema mweya waunofema.

Mnangagwa Welcomes Collins Tsvangirai To ZANU PF

A breakaway group from the opposition MDC-T held a press conference in Harare this Thursday during which they denounced MDC-T leader Senator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora">Douglas Mwonzora.</a>
The group which consists of some senior opposition leaders including Engineer Elias Mudzuri, says it is aggrieved by many issues including a “shambolic” national congress.
MDC-T last month suspended Mudzuri, Norest Marara, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gift_Konjana">Gift Konjana</a>, John Nyika, Den Moyo, Edwin Dzambara, and Edwin Kakora allegedly for breaking party rules, having illegal meetings, and undermining the democratic procedures of the organisation.

During the presser, the group said since the passing of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Movement_for_Democratic_Change">MDC’</a>s founding leader, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Morgan_Tsvangirai">Morgan Tsvangirai</a>, the party degenerated into chaos and lost its ethos and values.
Addressing the media, Mudzuri said the party was violating the principles of democracy.
He said the national congress led by Mwonzora is null and void as it did not follow the MDC-T constitution. 
Mudzuri said his group seeks to restore order in the MDC-T party. He said consultations with all structures of the party are in the process in a bid to map a way forward for the party. 
Asked why the electorate should trust a party that is going through a leadership crisis a few months before the election, Mudzuri said members of the MDC were not ready for any election. He said members were not consulted when a congress meant to choose their representatives were chosen. 
He said they intend to build proper and vibrant structures.

MDC-T Break Away Addresses A Press Conference

Glen View South Member of Parliament, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Vincent_Tsvangirai">Vincent Tsvangirai</a>, has said he has not left the MDC-T but is just ashamed to be associated with what was done by party leader <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora">Douglas Mwonzora.</a>
Tsvangirai is the son of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Morgan_Tsvangirai">Morgan Tsvangirai</a> the late founding leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).
In an interview with <a href="https://openparly.com/i-have-not-left-mdc-t-i-am-just-ashamed-of-what-happened-says-vincent-tsvangirai/">Open Parly</a>, Tsvangirai said if Mwonzora is still the party leader, he will see out his term but will not contest in 2023. He said:
<blockquote>
The national council that took place on the 20th of November in my opinion was a shame and a disgrace to democracy and what MDC stands for. In my opinion, it was what may be considered what breaks the camel’s back.
The MDC in its acronym is democracy, to say what took place was democratic, should be rejected by anyone who believes in democratic practices.
I have not left MDC, I love my party, but I am ashamed of my leader, and I did not think that Douglas Mwonzora would go to that extent to preserve his position.
Those who are in the MDC who are genuine about the struggle and what the MDC stands for should reject and utterly shame the process that took place on the 20th.
I will serve out the rest of my term and don’t think I will contest in 2023 under the presidency of Douglas Mwonzora. My principles will not allow it and I cannot go to the people and say please vote for us we want to deliver change in this country and democracy when we are not practicing it ourselves.
We must lead by example and then go to the people and request their support because we believe in what we are fighting for, but what we did on Sunday was nothing that we can go to the people and say we stand for this. That is my opinion I cannot recognize such a process.

Tsvangirai added that the MDC-T has failed to adhere to its own constitution, something which triggered a leadership crisis in the party in 2018. 
His remarks come after an MDC-T national council meeting allegedly endorsed Mwonzora as party leader ahead of the 5th congress.
The same meeting also endorsed Mwonzora as the party’s candidate for the 2023 Presidential elections allegedly without following proper procedure.
Tsvangirai said Mwonzora failed or neglected to ensure a secret ballot and that could have intimidated other aspiring candidates.
He added that other aspiring candidates were not aware that there was going to be voting, and the people who were supposed to vote were also not aware of the process.

"I Have Not Left MDC, I Love My Party" - Vincent Tsvangirai

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called for political tolerance among politicians ahead of the 2023 elections.
He made the call while delivering his State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the new multimillion-dollar six-story Parliament building gifted by China. He said:
<blockquote>
Political players, seeking the people’s mandate during the upcoming 2023 elections must maintain and consolidate the peace, unity, harmony and love that we have built under the second republic. Violent confrontations have never been part of our culture.
</blockquote>
Zimbabwe is scheduled to hold harmonised elections sometime in 2023.
Reports of intra-party and interparty violence have been rising since March this year when by-elections were held for several posts that were vacant.
The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change led by Nelson Chamisa, a former Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services claims that the ruling ZANU PF has been attacking and murdering its people to intimidate them ahead of elections.
One of the unresolved cases is that of slain CCC activist <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Moreblessing_Ali">Moreblessing Ali</a> who was abducted and killed earlier this year.
Her remains are yet to be buried amid reports that her family is in hiding following threats from suspected ZANU PF members.
Mnangagwa’s remarks come after some of his lieutenants, including former Minister of State Security, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Owen_Ncube">Owen Ncube</a>, threatened that <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/owen-ncube-threatens-worse-than-2008-political-violence-against-sell-outs/">2023 could be worse than 2008.</a>
In 2008, the ruling ZANU PF in collaboration with state security forces allegedly attacked and killed several opposition MDC members in the run-up to the run-off election.
Analysts have warned the 2023 poll could be one of the disputed elections if violence continues to escalate.

SONA: President Mnangagwa Calls For Political Tolerance Ahead Of 2023 Elections

ZANU PF has described the late veteran trade unionist and opposition MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai, as “a national institution” and “beacon of democracy”.
Tsvangirai died aged 65 at a South African hospital on 14 February 2018 after a long battle with colon cancer.
Addressing a Press conference in Harare on Monday, 14 February 2022, ZANU PF spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa said:
<blockquote>
Tsvangirai was a national institution and his name and the MDC party were equally a beacon for the fight in Zimbabwe for what is just and what is democratic, now the name disappears in history, now Tsvangirai is gone, replaced by Chete Chete Chete and the name MDC is gone too, finished just like that can you imagine.
</blockquote>
Nelson Chamisa, who succeeded Tsvangirai as MDC-T leader under controversial circumstances in 2018 but now leads Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) said on Twitter:
<blockquote>
A giant, a mentor, a fighter, a democrat and a confidante — this day you exited this life.
They are still trying those old tactics they used against you. They will not succeed. The struggle is in safe hands. Sadly missed. Rest in power mudhara (old man).
</blockquote>
CCC national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said that they will ensure that Tsvangirai’s dream of attaining a democratic Zimbabwe will be fulfilled. She said:
<blockquote>
This is the best honour we can give to his legacy. We will not allow the regime to consume or use us to fight the will of the people.
We will ensure that we complete the mission of attaining a democratic Zimbabwe. One day, Zimbabwe will be free.

The spokesperson for the MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe, Ntando Ndlovu described Tsvangirai as a man of the people. Ndlovu said:
<blockquote>
There is no debate that Tsvangirai deserves his own space in the national narrative for the significant role he played in shaping the country’s post-liberation politics.
We remember him as a leader who was able to listen to everyone regardless of their social status. He was, indeed, a man of the people.
We implore all pro-democracy forces to form a united front to remove Zanu PF from power. 
That is the tribute that we can give to our late departed leader.

Tsvangirai was named Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister in 2009 after protracted negotiations with then president, the late Robert Mugabe.
The Government of National Unity that was formed following a Global Political Agreement (GPA) helped to bring political and economic stability to the country.

Tsvangirai Was A National Institution - ZANU PF

Opposition <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Movement_for_Democratic_Change">MDC-T</a> led by Senator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora">Douglas Mwonzora</a> has announced that it will this afternoon host an annual lecture in remembrance of former Prime Minister, the late <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Morgan_Tsvangirai">Morgan Tsvangirai</a> who succumbed to cancer on the 14th of February in 2018.
Tsvangirai was a founding member of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/MDC">Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)</a>, a party he led from 1999 when it was formed until 2018 when he died. In a statement, the party said:

President Morgan Tsvangirai passed away on 14 February 2018. Honouring his memory, we will host the annual Morgan Tsvangirai Memorial Lecture at MRT House tomorrow (Monday). We shall forever preserve his legacy.

Another opposition party, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a>, which morphed from <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/MDC_Alliance">MDC Alliance</a> early this year, described Tsvangirai as a champion of democracy. 
CCC which is led by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a>, a former Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services (GNU era) said:

On this day, 14 February 2018 we lost a champion for democracy in Zimbabwe, Morgan Richard Tsvangirai. <img alt="🟡" class="emoji" decoding="async" draggable="false" src="https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/72x72/1f7e1.png"/>We remember his contribution to the struggle and we will ensure that we complete the mission. <img alt="🟡" class="emoji" decoding="async" draggable="false" src="https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/72x72/1f7e1.png"/>May he rest in power.

Morgan Tsvangirai’s political career began with his election as the Secretary-General of the national trade unions umbrella body. During this period, the movement criticised the government’s failure to improve the lives of the workers and this placed Tsvangirai in the political limelight.

Opposition Parties Remember Former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has taken to social media to detail what the opposition has achieved since its formation in the late 90s.
Sharing a picture of him and the MDC founding father Morgan Tsvangirai, on Facebook, the firebrand politician said they have remained strong over the years and they are still standing 2 decades later before adding that it is difficult to fight a dictatorship with open arms.
Said Chamisa:
<blockquote>Our BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT over the years has been to remain standing &amp; keeping the fight for real change. It’s not easy to fight dictatorship only with open palms, bare hands and on the platform of peace. We are not ashamed of our non-violence path to the future.
Waging a consistent fight for freedom, democracy &amp; transformation is a major score and no mean achievement. We have a solid vision, clear policies, precise goals and effective strategies…After the persecution, trials, betrayals and tribulations victory kicks in. Victory is certain! It’s coming.</blockquote>
This comes after some people have started stating that the youthful politician has no strategy to defeat the current administration adding that he has been silent while the Khupe led faction is recalling legislators and councilors and he has no strategy to stop the faction which according to them is working together with the government to silence him. Chamisa during his<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/12/06/taking-our-party-wont-break-us-chamisa/"> mother’s memorial service early this month said silence is also a strategy</a>.

Its Not Easy To Fight Dictatorship With Open Arms - Chamisa

A UK based academic Dr David Matsanga has said sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe are now an economic warfare fashioned to kill Zimbabwe. The opinionist called Nelson Chamisa Tsvangirai’s later day puppy and said Tsvangirai had despotic tendencies that caused an upheaval in Zimbabwe. Matsanga also said the opposition is running powerplays as directed by their Western sympathizers, and according to him it is causing the majority of Zimbabwean to suffer.
Urging the American government to be tolerant to President Mnangagwa, Matsanga opined:
<blockquote>THE sanctions imposed by the West on Zimbabwe, are no longer about inculcating good governance and freedoms but a tactless, miscalculated economic warfare, fashioned to ‘kill’ Zimbabwe.
Curiously, at the center of this ugly theatre of a blistering neocolonial attack by western imperialists, are their minions, and house negros right inside Zimbabwe beguiled as opposition, civil society, and queer diplomats.
Some of these crazed diplomats, like the USA ambassador Brian Nichols, behave as if Zimbabwe is a province, colony, or protectorate of the United States of America.
Instead of promoting good bilateral relations between Washington, and Zimbabwe; loquacious Nichols has been going around verbally torching everywhere; inciting lawlessness, funding anti-government protests, and spreading fake news, and directly meddling in Zimbabwe domestic affairs against laid down protocols embodied in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (VCDR), and in multilateral and bilateral treaties.
The paradox of it all is that this unbecoming behavior of Nichols comes at a time the government of the USA, is warning foreign missions and foreign countries from interfering in its domestic affairs including elections! Whatever happened to the old wisdom; what’s good for the goose, is good for the gander.
Importantly, President Mnangagwa has tried so so much on the issue of institutional reforms to conform with human rights, it’s not like Zimbabwe is the USA where blacks still live like second-class humans under the crushing yokes of subjugation; where racism is enough reason for police to shoot a black man and worse still send him to prison for many years purely on the implicit black bias. In the USA jails are one million African Americans, for deadpan that would not land any white man inside a Zimbabwean in jail.
The kind of lynching, the world was bizarrely treated to in the case of Goerge Floyd are things that don’t happen in Zimbabwe, and Mr. Nichols and his fellow Western diplomats should appreciate it.
You don’t punish a man for trying, it’s sinful. President Mnangagwa is doing everything to ensure Zimbabwe becomes great again.
These crippling ever-evolving sanctions imposed in 2001, against President Robert Mugabe and grandees in his government initially was about the timely land resettlement program; but the goal has kept shifting base on every deliberate lie and beer parlor gossip.
President Mnangagwa has even offered to compensate formerly uprooted white settlers, with land and capital; something that would never happen in Western Countries against their minority populations; but still, the sanction screw is being tightened.
Sample the case of the Chagossians in British courts, the British government vowed in 2019 not to return Chagos to Mauritius, and resettle families it evicted from this island in 1968. The British refusal flies in the face of a UN resolution, an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice. This is a dark chapter, marked with deceit, tragedy, and above all a colonial land grab. The same rights Britain is demanding for evicted whites in Zimbabwe, it can’t offer for the Chagos Islanders who are refugees in Britain. The shame of a glaring double-standards!
If this punitive economic war is based on the delusion that a red carpet will be rolled for the opposition to walk into government as the new rulers, of Zimbabwe, let these imperialists wake up from their dream. 
Zimbabwe’s opposition is under civil war; bloody violence, intimidations, and embezzlement of funds, and cheap blackmail has become their modus operandi.
Despotic tendencies of the late Morgan Tsvangirai and his later-day puppy, Nelson Chamisa, is causing serious upheavals. The damning findings of political scientist Dr. Alex Magaisa hired to diagnose MDC-T ailments are all there for everyone to read.
Lost in all these powerplays, ran by the opposition as directed by their Western sympathizers are that these sanctions are hurting the ordinary Zimbabweans businessmen, school-going children, the working class, farmers to mention but a few.
How the opposition has never noticed this reality in their unmitigated power-lust leaves me wondering how they seek to lead the same people they are conniving with their powerful western friends to punish.
On behalf of Africa, and other friends of Zimbabwe worldwide; I appeal to the governments of the USA and the EU to: 
To cultivate a better working relationship with President Emerson Mnangagwa. He has extended a hand of friendship and fellowship wisdom demands that these governments must unclench their hands and reciprocate the good gesture.

OPINION: Sanctions Now A Tactless Miscalculated Economic Warfare Fashioned To Kill Zimbabwe - David Matsanga

The Supreme Court has granted opposition MDC-T interim leadership a further extension up to November 30 to hold an extraordinary congress.
The court had in March ordered that the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/08/26/mdc-yet-to-be-granted-application-for-extension-of-congress-mwonzora/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">party holds the congress not later than the 31st of July</a> this year but the party currently led by Thokozani Khupe argued that <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/07/27/zapu-postpones-congress-over-covid-19/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">the coronavirus lockdown made it impossible for them to comply with the ruling.</a>
The congress is meant to elect the successor to MDC’s founding leader the late <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/02/14/breaking-morgan-tsvangirai-dies/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Morgan Tsvangirai who succumbed to cancer in 2018.</a>
His demise has left a power vacuum that has created a prolonged gruesome leadership crisis which has since spilt into courts.
Thokozani Khupe accuses her nemesis, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/02/23/khupe-says-chamisa-just-tsvangirais-personal-assistant-seized-power-violently/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Nelson Chamisa of MDC Alliance of usurping power</a> in the runup to the 2018 elections.
Meanwhile, Chamisa and his allies accuse Khupe of being a ZANU PF mole created to destabilise the biggest opposition in the country.

Supreme Court Extends Khupe's Stay In Office

The opposition MDC-T reportedly held a hastily-arranged meeting of its standing committee in Harare with officials alleging that it was in preparation for re-unification talks with the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance.
This comes when tensions between the two MDC outfits are rising due to a number of issues including <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/09/26/khupe-to-recall-38-more-mdc-a-mps-hundreds-of-councillors/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Khupe’s recalling of MDC Alliance councillors and legislators</a> and the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/09/28/mwonzora-blames-chamisa-for-harvest-house-seizure/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">seizure of Harvest House by MDC-A youths</a>.

MDC-T Meet To Prepare For "Re-unification" Talks With Chamisa

Renowned political analysts have said the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has now fallen as a result of the prolonged leadership that started manifesting in 2018.
The party that was formed by the late former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has two major warring factions, the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa and the MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe.
Speaking to the Daily News Sunday <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/09/26/khupe-to-recall-38-more-mdc-a-mps-hundreds-of-councillors/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">amid Khupe’s withdrawal of councillors and legislators aligned to Chamisa</a>, a political science lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe, Eldred Masunungure said:

The battle for the MDC brand is needless, hence the need for a fresh start because the party has charismatic leaders … all they need to do is to infuse that into a new name and within a short time they will be a household name again.</div>

Renowned Political Analysts Say "MDC Has Fallen"

The leader of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change Tsvangirai (MDC-T), Thokozani Khupe has reportedly been embarrassed at the funeral of Mbuya Chamisa, the mother of MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa.
Mbuya Chamisa died on Monday at her rural home in Gutu, the cause of her death has not yet been revealed. She is scheduled to be laid to rest this Wednesday at Chidyamakuni Village, Makwiriwindi area of Chiwara.
The leader of the Labour, Economists and African Democrats (LEAD), Linda Masarira posted on Twitter this Wednesday criticising the incident. She said:

Khupe and Chamisa have been, since 2018, been locked in a gruesome leadership wrangle that has recently turned nasty.
The duo is fighting over the leadership of the MDC which has, since 1999, been under the leadership of the late former Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai unto succumbing to cancer in 2018.

The ruling ZANU PF has said that current squabbles in the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) was weakening the party adding that it was also a blow to democracy in the country.
This comes when the MDC is divided into two warring factions – one led by Nelson Chamisa and the other led by Thokozani Khupe, since the demise of the party’s founding leader, Morgan Tsvangirai in 2018.
Posting on Twitter, ZANU PF said:

Meanwhile, MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa claims that the ruling party was sponsoring the faction led by Khupe to destroy the opposition in the country.
The theory gained popularity when the state military and police officers assisted youths belonging to the Khupe faction to take control of the Morgan Tsvangirai House which the MDC Alliance was using as its headquarters.
On the other hand, MDC-T is accusing MDC Alliance officials of abusing the party’s constitution and usurping power from Khupe whom they say was the legitimate and automatic heir to the throne after Tsvangirai.

"Democracy Thrives On Strong Opposition,"- ZANU PF 'Wishes MDC Speedy Recovery'

The ruling ZANU PF has denied involvement in the power squabbles that have rocked the opposition MDC since 2018 when the party’s founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai died.
The party speaks when the MDC Alliance is accusing ZANU PF of meddling in MDC internal affairs and creating the crisis in the party.
Responding to the allegations, Zanu PF acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa said:
<blockquote>Zanu PF has nothing to do with the squabbles within the MDC. The squabbles within the MDC emanate from lack of obedience to their own constitution.
The late Tsvangirai tore up a constitution to appoint two illegal vice-presidents. They created internal conflicts and Zanu PF has nothing to do with those internal conflicts. We have nothing to do with the demise and the split in the opposition. It will split because they are not democratic.</blockquote>
Chinamasa added that even the courts confirmed that Tsvangirai acted contrary to the constitution, therefore, the party was now trying to correct and align the MDC to the rule of law.
This is happening when the leadership crisis has divided the MDC into two factions – MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa and MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe.

"Blame The Crisis On Tsvangirai," - ZANU PF On MDC Leadership Crisis

Nixon Nyikadzino, the Secretary-General of the MDC-T formed by Thokozani Khupe in 2018 has urged warring MDC factions – MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa and MDC-T led by Khupe, to find each other adding that the party – MDC, risked losing supporters.
Nyikadzino who is popularly known as Chairman Mao speaks amid heightened tensions between the factions following the Supreme Court ruling on the party leadership crisis that reinstated Khupe as the MDC-T’s supreme leader.
Speaking to New Zimbabwe, Nyikadzino said the war was not sustainable adding that the squabbles were giving the ruling ZANU PF some undeserved advantage.
He said peace among wrangling parties will give infinite prosperity for Zimbabwe and its people and eternal peace for the party’s founding leader, Morgan Tsvangirai. Nyikadzino added:
<blockquote>At some point, all of us as leaders must sober up and look at the bigger picture. These power struggles are unsustainable in the sense that the more we fight, the more we are likely to lose both support and traction from those we want to serve.
An internal settlement in the opposition will make it difficult for Zanu PF to use partisan and patronage approaches in dividing the opposition because they will not be able to buy materially desperate leaders.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, the wrangle seems continuous as Chamisa is adamant that he has the support of the people while Khupe banks on court order.

"MDC To Lose Supporters Due To Leadership Crisis," - MDC Official

Richard Tsvangirai, one of the sons of the late founding leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Morgan Tsvangirai has said his fight is for a better future not “someone’s legacy.”
He speaks when the opposition MDC is marred by a leadership crisis that has seen factions led by Nelson Chamisa (MDC Alliance) and the MDC-T by Thokozani Khupe have jostled for association with Tsvangirai.
There have been a number of MDC factions before and the party’s supporters always chose the side supported by Tsvangirai who is regarded as the champion of democracy in the country. Posting on Twitter, Richard said:
<blockquote>Cdes, we’re fighting not because of someone’s legacy but because we want a better future, a future where we’re in control of every aspect of our lives, so that when fail we don’t blame it on the govt but ourselves. This is a generational fight, together we’ll define our own destiny.</blockquote>
There has been stampede recently by both factions over the Tsvangirai family since the close association with it is premised at luring party supporters.
Recently, Khupe led MDC-T went and “performed rituals” at Tsvangirai’s grave in Buhera and also gave Tsvangirai’s brother, Manasa a senior post in the party while Chamisa’s faction has the support of some of Tsvangirai’s children.

"We’re Fighting Not Because Of Someone’s Legacy" - Tsvangirai's Son

Jonathan Chando writing for the independent opined that the MDC Alliance legal cobweb is self-inflicted and denying that and blaming its woes on external forces is psychological deflection. Chando opined:
<blockquote>We are a pretty impressionable people. We all like to say that we are independent, free individuals who make up our own minds, but the reality is that we are heavily influenced by the company we keep. Therefore, we need to be very careful with how we create our inner circle and what advice we embrace.
Following the Supreme Court judgment on the Elias Mashavira, MDC/Chamisa case, I wrote a legal analysis which was published in the Zimbabwe Independent on May 5, 2020, in which I interrogated the court’s arguments in making their determination. I also articulated the enforceability of the order and its consequences on the MDC-Alliance, despite denials by its leadership. I explained how the MDC-Alliance was a direct bi-product of the original MDC left by Morgan Tsvangirai, and unconstitutionally usurped by Nelson Chamisa. I further wrote that even if the MDC-Alliance was a political party, it would still be impacted by the judgment.
In my analysis, I explained how the reinstated leadership led by Thokozani Khupe would be legally entitled to recall members of the National Assembly, senators and councillors elected under the MDC-Alliance banner, as they had been a component of the MDC reinstated by the Supreme Court. I advised that Chamisa and his MDC-Alliance outfit, had two options, to abide by the judgment and unite the party, or to form a new party divorced from the MDC.
While Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube and David Coltart went on Twitter and held press briefings, claiming that the judgment had nothing to do with the MDC-Alliance as it is a distinct political party unrelated to the MDC, whose judgment had been handed down by the Supreme Court, my analysis then, has since come to pass.
The MDC-Alliance has now been embroiled in devastating turmoil of huge proportions. It was evident for any legally literate individual that disaster was coming to the MDC-Alliance, despite its leadership, ironically filled with legal minds, denying this glaring truth.
Thus the MDC-Alliance is engulfed in or is employing what social scientists would call “denial psychology”, coupled with “psychological deflection.” But what do these phrases mean?
Denial psychology
Denial psychology is a person’s act of denying reality as a way of avoiding a psychologically uncomfortable truth. It is essentially irrational action that withholds the validation of a historical experience or event, when a person refuses to accept an empirically verifiable reality. Denial psychology is built around understanding denial as a coping mechanism, along with the way it impacts people and their deeds and relationships.

<div data-ad-slot="vi_19644910">According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, denial is a defence mechanism in which confrontation with a personal problem or with reality is avoided by denying the existence of the problem or reality. When one uses denial as a defence mechanism, it can easily become a way of lying to oneself or to others. While it might seem easier in the moment, the reality is that it can cause one to develop maladaptive behaviours and unhealthy relationships with others.</div>
</div>
Denial psychology is a trait that has been quite evident in both the leadership of the MDC-Alliance across the board, and some of its aligned political, legal and media pundits, which has sadly cascaded to its religiously subservient membership and some of the citizenry.
The noise made by both the leadership and aligned pundits, that the judgment had no effect on the MDC-Alliance, was clear denial psychology. While they made noise denying it, in my analysis I correctly opined that the judgement would have consequences on them, and it is coming to pass.
Soon after the judgment, instead of making sober legal arguments in their criticism thereof, and work to contain the damage done, they went into denial mode, yet they knew very well of the impeding devastating ramifications on their political outfit. Unfortunately, the storm, whose impeding disastrous arrival they have been denying, has hit home and has now caused pandemonium within the MDC-Alliance, and they now employ psychological deflection, by blaming external forces for fomenting their discomfiture.
While Zanu PF is capable of anything in destabilising the opposition, the MDC mess is a self-inflicted roughhouse, and blaming external forces for its legal cobweb is psychological deflection.
Psychological deflection
Psychological deflection is described as a narcissistic abuse tactic used to control the mind and emotions of others, and is also a coping mechanism strategy. Individuals who use this seek to mask their own impulses by denying their mistakes and failures, projecting them on the people around them or most commonly their adversaries.
Human beings have a natural tendency to be proud of their achievements and share their positive results with others. But when it comes to failure, we usually attribute it to external factors: the system, the judiciary, the government, the other faction etc.
This is because our ego develops a self-defence system that prevents us from acknowledging that we are wrong, thus making us feel less responsible for the consequences of our own actions or omissions. MDC-Alliance leaders have been employing psychological deflection, by blaming Zanu-PF, the judiciary and those in the MDC who have decided to follow the Supreme Court judgment.
In this article, I will go through the political, legal and constitutional miscalculations that Chamisa and the MDC-Alliance leaders have been making, while blaming external forces for their own faux pas.
The Art of War
Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu, in his book, The Art of War, wrote: “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained, you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
From my observations, the MDC-Alliance fits the third scenario. They know, neither themselves nor their enemy. They have been succumbing in every battle, even when they are at an advantage, because they know neither themselves nor their enemy.
During the liberation war, Zanla received weapons from different communist and socialist states. In 1978, they received arms, in the form of a Soviet-type cheap sub-machine gun called Papasha or Pepesha in local lingo. This weapon was a kind of sub-machine pistol, which was not effective in real combat situations. The Zanla command, realising the weapon’s inadequacy to face the enemy in the battlefield on the frontline, decided to keep this weapon in storage and in use in camps in Mozambique.
While there was a shortage of weaponry as trained fighters outnumbered the available weaponry, the commanders knew their enemy, and decided not to risk their forces by sending them with such weapons to the battlefront to be defeated and annihilated. They instead opted to maintain the war with the reduced effective weaponry they had.
They only deployed these Pepesha pistol guns in 1979 in liberated zones, where there was little or no chance of engagement with the enemy. For the civilians in these zones, there was no difference between well-armed comrades and those with Pepeshas. This is called strategy, as surmised by Sun Tzu. Zanla knew its enemy, and knew itself, and succeeded in the war against Ian Smith.
Now coming to the MDC, which is now calling itself the MDC-Alliance, the democratic, constitutional and legal missteps they have made along the way are detrimental to the fight against Zanu PF, because they appear to know neither themselves nor their enemy, hence the multiple splits and intra-party conflicts.
The split between Tsvangirai and Welshman Ncube marked the first indication of constitutional transgressions. This was repeated when Tendai Biti and Elton Mangoma were expelled from the MDC followed by Job Sikhala. All these times, the MDC employed denial psychology and psychological deflection, blaming their former colleagues of being Zanu PF elements.
The greatest chance ever to slip through the hands of the MDC to engineer change in Zimbabwe was in the period between 2009 and 2013, when MDC won the elections in 2008, but was deprived of taking over State House at the hands of the military. This led to a stalemate which resulted in the Government of National Unity (GNU) in early 2009. Instead of pushing vehemently and consistently for political, electoral and security sector reforms during this period, the MDC cabal slept on the pickings of high office and forgot their purpose.
This was a chance they must rue, and may never regain. While they credit themselves with reviving the economy during this period, including the reduction of the cost of mobile phone sim-cards, credited to Chamisa, the truth is that the economic decline was reversed by the introduction of the multi-currency regime by Zanu PF in February 2009, just before the GNU, following the rejection of the useless and inflationary Zimdollar notes by kombi drivers and touts. The introduction of the multi-currency regime stabilised supply and demand, and brought about sanity in the economy.
While Biti managed the economy on the “we eat what we kill” mantra, and reduced government spending, he did nothing to stimulate productivity and exports, to bring the economy back on track. The economy remained consumer driven, without any foreign currency generation.
In 2016, Tsvangirai appointed Elias Mudzuri and Chamisa, ultra vires the MDC constitution and against rational and legal advice from lawyers like Alex Magaisa, Eric Matinenga and Douglas Mwonzora. When later confronted with questions on succession about who would takeover should anything happen to him, Tsvangirai, in an audio released on social media, was explicit that Khupe was the constitutionally elected vice-president who would automatically take over.
Following this, the biggest constitutional goof that the MDC made, was the imperceptive support of the unconstitutional power takeover by the military in November 2017, which ushered in exiled Emmerson Mnangagwa, whose ascendance to power they now call a coup de tat. As a party with a contingent of lawyers, and which portrays itself as democrats, they failed to stick to constitutionalism, in the hope of being included in a power sharing matrix.
I remember writing an article expressing my dismay, when Chamisa, a lawyer, was interviewed on CapiTalk Radio’s Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa, and professed that the removal of Mugabe was a miracle. A miracle really? He did not even consider that as a lawyer, he was obliged to consider the constitutionality of the power grab, which was evidently a coup d’etat, as well as an intra-party feud.
At the time, not even the human rights lawyers aligned to the MDC spoke against the military abuses during the period. The only voices I observed were from David Coltart and Brian Kagoro, who called it a de facto coup d’état, which should not have been supported by the MDC. To me, this exposes the MDC leadership as opportunists, who have no respect for democracy and constitutionalism. They disregard constitutionalism as long as it leads them to power, and proclaim it when it is convenient for them.
It is undisputed, that Chamisa unconstitutionally usurped power a day after Tsvangirai’s death, and everything took a different direction, dividing the MDC, post Tsvangirai. This is some hard truth which both Chamisa himself, his colleagues in the MDC-Alliance and wayward pundits in his corner refuse to admit was the cause of all the current misadventures. They pretend it never happened. They have tried to peddle the idea that the Mashavira case is moot, as they seek to deny and forget the illegality. But Justice Bharat Patel was clear: such unconstitutionality cannot be allowed by the courts, because of the potential proximity of the incumbent to constitutional state power. Denial psychology continues to rule over their minds and actions.</blockquote>

The leader of the opposition Movement for Democratic ChangeTsvangirai (MDC-T), Thokozani Khupe has vowed to redirect the party back to its founding principles.
She made the remarks at a conference which followed the party’s first Standing Committee held at Morgan Tsvangirai House on Monday.
Khupe claimed that MDC was founded on constitutionalism and democracy, principles which should guide the parties actions from now forward.
MDC-T leadership and members claim that the MDC had departed from its principles since the ascension of Nelson Chamisa to the helm of the party following the demise of the founding party leader, Morgan Tsvangirai in 2018.
They claim Chamisa, with the help of the National Council, usurped power from Khupe who was the legitimate heir to Tsvangirai.

Khupe Pledges To Redirect MDC-T Back To Its Founding Principles

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) led by <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/06/05/thokozani-khupes-mdc-takes-over-morgan-tsvangirai-house/">Thokozani Khupe has taken over Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House</a> which is formerly known as Harvest House with the help of the national army.
The building was being used by the Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance. Meanwhile, MDC-T’s organizing secretary for Harare province, Rhino Mashaya, dismissed as “wishful thinking” reports that the MDC-T was assisted by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces in taking over the building. MDC-T acting president Thokozani Khupe has been ridiculed following her visit to the late party founding president Morgan Tsvangirai’s grave on Saturday.
Khupe, who was at loggerheads with Tsvangirai for several months before his death on Valentine’s Day in 2018, visited Humanikwa Village in Buhera to consult Tsvangirai’s “spirit” at his graveyards.
She was accompanied by Douglas Mwonzora, Morgen Komichi and Elias Mudzuri among other senior party officials.
Several commentators who aired their views on Twitter considered Khupe’s antics bizarre and hypocritical. Below are some of the comments gleaned from Twitter:

Since June 2017 until his death in February 2018 Khupe refused to meet Tsvangirai. Suggested that she would want to meet Tsvangirai on a neutral venue in Chegutu, Morgan refused. MDC people know this. Now Khupe and Mwonzora lead a delegation to the grave of a man she defied.

Khupe Mocked For 'Consulting' Tsvangirai's 'Spirit' At His Grave

Acting MDC president Thokozani Khupe on Saturday visited the late Morgan Tsvangirai’s grave at Humanikwa Village in Buhera.
Khupe was in the company of several party officials, among them secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora, deputy chairperson Morgen Komichi and former national organising secretary Elias Mudzuri.
Khupe’s political career, which was heading into oblivion based on the outcome of the 2018 elections, received a new lease of life after the Supreme Court gave her authority over MDC Alliance legislators.
As part of the rituals at Tsvangirai’s graveyard, Khupe prayed to the late former Prime Minister, pledging to continue with the work that he left. She said:
<blockquote>We are going to work together. We will remain united and solid like a rock and we would like to promise you that we will not let you down.
We are going to continue with the job that left… we are going to continue with your spirit and we will make sure that Zimbabwean people have a better life.

MDC-T acting president Thokozani Khupe on Saturday travelled to Humanikwa Village, Buhera District in Manicaland Province to visit the grave of the party’s late founding president Morgan Tsvangirai.
Khupe was accompanied by the party’s senior officials who include Morgen Komichi, Elias Mudzuri and Douglas Mwonzora among others.
Invoking Tsvangirai’s spirit, Khupe prayed:

Vincent Tsvangirai, son to the late MDC founding president, Morgan Tsvangirai, has reportedly defied Nelson Chamisa’s directive after he attended the National Assembly sitting on Tuesday.
This comes after MDC Alliance officials, who are aligned to Chamisa, directed their legislators to disengage from Parliament by boycotting all Parliamentary-related business in protest over the expulsion of four senior leaders from Parliament.
During Tuesday’s Parliamentary sitting, Tsvangirai was joined by other four MDC Alliance legislators; Constance Chihururu, Joyce Makonya (proportional representative), Winnie Kankuni (Sunningdale) and David Tekeshe (Makoni Central).
Makonya told the Daily News that she was heartened by Vincent’s stance, saying he was defending what was right. She said:
<blockquote>We are encouraged by the coming of Vincent Tsvangirai. The son of our founding father knows what is happening and the right direction to take. He knows his father was for constitutionalism and he wants to protect what his father started.</blockquote>
Following a Supreme Court ruling in March which reinstated Thokozani Khupe as the acting president of MDC-T pending an extraordinary Congress, four MDC Alliance MPs – Chalton Hwende (Kuwadzana East), Thabitha Khumalo, Lilian Timveos and Prosper Mutseyami – were recalled from Parliament by re-instated secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora.
Vincent was backed by Chamisa to challenge for the Glen View South National Assembly seat following the death of his sister, Vimbai Tsvangirai Java, who was the sitting MP for the constituency when she died from injuries she sustained in a car crash.

Tsvangirai's Son 'Rebels' Against Chamisa

A NewsDay editorial claims that the reason why the late MDC founding president Morgan Tsvangirai couldn’t ascend to power is that he was surrounded by “insincere, dishonest and mean-spirited people”.
The “vultures” who surrounded Tsvangirai and probably dined with “the enemy”, the ruling ZANU PF party have been unmasked by recent developments, with senior officials seemingly bent on destroying the movement.
Tsvangirai paid the price because of trusting too much and every detail of his move was under the watchful eye of the enemy.
It is even debatable whether cancer which claimed his life was planted or a natural ailment given the calibre of people who surrounded him. The editorial reads in part:
<blockquote>The events that have stood like a colossus in opposition political affairs in the past two weeks bear living testament that the new crop of politicians in the MDC are a far cry from the founding stalwarts of 1999.
The work painstakingly begun by Gibson Sibanda, Morgan Tsvangirai (both late), Welshman Ncube, Learnmore Jongwe (late), Tendai Biti among many others, today faces a possible vanish into thin air.
… It was never easy to build the MDC brand, but the possibility of the obliteration of the name is a nauseating reality.
The worst part is that this new crop of politicians in the form of Khupe, Obert Gutu, Elias Mudzuri and Douglas Mwonzora does not even seem to give a hoot in hell if MDC collapses.</blockquote>

'Recent Developments Show Why Tsvangirai Couldn't Ascend To Power'

A video clip in which Morgan Tsvangirai the late founding leader of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party says Tendai Biti, like Welshman Ncube, does not believe in anything else except for his power has resurfaced and circulated on social media.
The video circulates when the Supreme Court ruling on the party’s leadership crisis has heightened tensions in the party.
Members are split between two factional groupings, one led by Nelson Chamisa and the other led by Thokozani Khupe.
Both Ncube and Biti, in that order, tried and failed to expel Tsvangirai from the party in 2005 and 2013 and they eventually left to form their own parties which joined the MDC Alliance in 2018.

FLASHBACK: Tsvangirai Speaking On Biti And Ncube's "Greedy For Power"

Morgen Komichi who was one of Morgan Tsvangirai’s Vice Presidents has accepted the Supreme Court’s ruling which said that Thokozani Khupe who was now leading the MDC-T is the legitimate leader of the MDC that was founded by the late Morgen Tsvangirai.
Komichi gave the speech immediately after the court session prompting some to say he already knew the court ruling on the matter. Below is Komichi’s statement in full.
<blockquote>TODAY, the Supreme Court, which is the highest Court of the Land except in constitutional cases, has pronounced itself on the dispute that has long been affecting our Party, 
This follows the challenge by one of our long-standing cadres and Organizing Secretary for Gokwe District Elias Mashavira who felt that the Party constitution had not been followed in the appointment of certain leaders. He argued that at all times the Party must follow its own constitution. 
He was vindicated when Justice Mushore of the High Court ruled in his favor in March 2019. He has further been vindicated by a unanimous decision of the Supreme Court today. 
This case was argued fully live on television and Zimbabweans are aware of the issues at stake. 
The MDC is a Party predicated on social democratic values including freedom, justice, equality, solidarity and democracy. Its founding values include following constitutionalism and the rule of law. 
We gain the trust of Zimbabweans if we stick to our own rules and procedures. For that reason, we accept and embrace the judgement of this court and will fully comply with it. Doing otherwise will be embarking on the very lawlessness we have been known to loathe. 
That Mr Mashavira was not as high ranking as some leaders does not diminish the potency of his challenge nor his importance in the Party. It follows that the leadership of this great Party reverts back to those who were in leadership at all levels in 2014. 
All the actions of the present leadership including the holding of the Gweru Congress while well aware of the present case are nullified. 
To that end we advise all our members and structures as follows: 
1. All suspensions and dismissals of any party member by the current leadership between February 2018 and today are null and void. The affected members are hereby fully reinstated to their positions in the party. 
2. The suspensions, dismissals and recalls of the Mayors of Chegutu, Masvingo and Victoria Falls are hereby set aside and that their Worships are reinstated thus giving effect to the true wishes of the electorate.
 3. The removal of all ward executive committees and district executive committees is set aside. All the 1958 ward executive committees and all the 210 district executive committees are hereby reinstated and shall forthwith convene and do party work. 
4. All members of staff whose contracts of employment were unlawfully terminated last year are hereby reinstated and must report for duty as soon as practicably possible given the circumstances. 5. All our party deployees to council and parliament are advised that they have no need to fear as there will be no reprisal or retribution from the leadership. This is on the strict understanding that they will discharge their obligations towards the party and not embark on any activities calculated to divide the Party. 
6. The current leadership are kindly asked to hand over the assets of the Party to the Secretary-General. All financial records should be handed over to the Treasurer General of the Party.
