We even applied for his visa (Cameroonian). He has a huge personality, and he didn’t want to steal the show since we had already won two games against Namibia.
But he was ready to come if we had then lost to Kenya or we had encountered a major problem like suspensions or injuries.
It could be that two or three players are injured or suspended, and you have to go to Cameroon and maybe get a win or a draw. So, we applied for a visa.
It shows the positive character, and that’s what we need. Not put me first, put the team first, the country first.
And that mentality we will have to set up more and more. That we have to put, everybody has to pull in the same direction.
Everybody needs Musona to add value to the team.

Nees told journalists that he drives across the country at night to watch players and has even obtained a Zimbabwe Defensive Driving certificate for added safety.
Musona had retired from international football after the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, and Zimbabwe faced a potential FIFA ban.

If selected, Musona could become the first Zimbabwean to feature in four AFCON finals later this year in Morocco.

The staff and the players don’t know me so we must get the message very quickly over to them and that is not easy.’

He only lasted three matches as the Seychelles boss and coached Rwanda in just two matches.
Nees’s coaching experience has primarily been with the under-21 teams of Israel and Kosovo, and he has never qualified for a major tournament as a head coach.
In his remarks following his appointment, Nees expressed his intention to make the Warriors “unpredictable.” He said:

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee has appointed Michael Nees as the new head coach of the Zimbabwe Men’s National Team, the Warriors.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 30 July, ZIFA announced that the 57-year-old German tactician will lead the Warriors in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nees becomes the first substantive Warriors coach since Croatian national Zdravko Logarusic was fired a couple of years ago. ZIFA said:

Notably, in 2005 and 2006, he was part of the support staff for the England National Team during the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany, under the auspices of FIFA.
Michael Nees’s extensive experience includes serving as the Head Coach of the Rwanda Senior Men’s National Team and the Director of Coaching and Education at the South African Football Association (SAFA). 
His deep knowledge of the African football landscape and his innovative approach are expected to provide a significant advantage in the upcoming AFCON qualification campaign.
