MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora believes he is being targeted by ZANU PF through lawfare after the High Court nullified his 2022 election at the party’s congress, which saw him assume leadership.
Mwonzora claims that ZANU PF is behind the ruling as punishment for his opposition to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s alleged plan to extend his presidency beyond the constitutionally mandated two terms, set to expire in 2028.
Last week, High Court judge Justice Hapias Zhou ruled that Mwonzora must resign and allow for a fresh congress within six months, citing irregularities in the 2022 MDC-T Extraordinary Congress that led to his elevation as party leader.
Speaking to journalists in Harare, Mwonzora vowed not to be intimidated, reiterating his commitment to opposing the ED2030 agenda. Said Mwonzora (via <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/mwonzora-says-zanu-pf-punishing-him-for-resisting-2030-agenda-after-high-court-nullified-his-mdc-t-presidency/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>):

I want to say we are going to attenuate our fight against the 2030 agenda. We will never allow anybody to intimidate us against fighting the 2030 agenda.
So, if there is a faction within ZANU PF which has a hand in this judgment, we say ‘tough luck’ to you. We are going to intensify our fight against the 2030 agenda.
We will never allow the emasculation of our Constitution, we will never allow being bullied against defending our Constitution.

Mwonzora said Mnangagwa’s supporters should not be allowed to reverse what Zimbabwean voters endorsed in the 2023 referendum when they approved the new Constitution. He said:

The people of Zimbabwe are stakeholders, they spoke during the outreach programme about what they wanted in the Constitution. They spoke during the referendum on what they wanted in this Constitution. 
What they said they wanted in this Constitution was that a President must run the country for a maximum of 10 years, after which they must go home.
We are saying, President Mnangagwa, after the expiry of your term in 2028, go home, and nothing is going to intimidate us from this path.

Mwonzora claimed that MDC-T had formed a coalition with other progressive forces, including political parties, the church, civil society, and war veterans, to resist Mnangagwa’s ambitious plan to become a “life president.”

High Court Nullifies Mwonzora's MDC-T Presidency, Orders Fresh Election

The Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC has reportedly been failing to pay its employees for the past eight months.
Mwonzora was on Friday forced to attend a crisis meeting convened by the disgruntled employees.
<a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/mdc-employees-threaten-to-seize-headquarters-after-party-failed-to-pay-salaries-for-eight-months/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> reported sources as saying some of the workers were contemplating pushing for the dismissal of Mwonzora. Said a source:

The party has not paid us for the past eight months and the employees have resorted to confront the party.
Right now Mwonzora is in the building and he is in a meeting with the other workers.
The party leadership has been collecting funds from rentals and all this money is being used without accountability.

The workers had reportedly planned to take over the Morgan Tsvangirai House, formerly Harvest House, and force Mwonzora and the National Council to a meeting.
Asked to comment on the allegations, outside their headquarters, MDC director of information Chengetai Guta said:

That is an internal issue. We do not discuss human resource issues in the public domain. So whatever you allege remains an allegation.
We are yet to hear more from you if at all you have anything. But like I have said human resource issues are not issues of public concern this is an internal issue and one that will be resolved internally if at all there is anything like that.

MDC Workers Threaten To Seize Party Headquarters Over Unpaid Salaries

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party has written a letter to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to seek clarification regarding a situation of name similarity. This was after it was discovered that a person named Chitembe David from Harare East Constituency had registered to contest in the Parliamentary elections as a candidate for a political party named Changu Chimuti Chakapinda Chapinda (CCCC), which bears a resemblance to the CCC party.
The party inquired if the CCCC party exists and how it was possible for someone to register with a political party that has a name identical to theirs. The CCC has also expressed curiosity about the use of similar symbols by various political parties and requested ZEC to clarify this issue to the citizens. In an open letter seen by Pindula News, the CCC led by Nelson Chamisa said:

We wanted to inquire whether there exists a political party by the name of Changu Chimuti Chakapinda Chapinda (CCCC). We are curious about the electoral law with regard to the use of similar symbols by various parties. We are wondering how someone was registered with a political party that is identical to our party, CCC. Could you kindly clarify this to the citizens?

Over the years, Zimbabwe’s political landscape has been marked by instances of name similarity among political parties. Examples include the MDC-T party led by Thokozani Khupe, which was accused in 2018 of using a symbol similar to that of the MDC Alliance party then led by Nelson Chamisa. Other examples include Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) formations such as MDC T, MDC M, MDC 
Alliance, MDC 99 as well as the ZANU Ndonga, PF ZAPU, ZANU PF, ZIM PF, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Citizens Collaboration for Change (CCC), Citizens Convergence for Change (CCC), and Changu Chimuti Chakapinda Chapinda (CCCC).
Political analysts believe that this situation can lead to voter confusion and raise concerns about the credibility of the electoral process. They argue that this is caused by the absence of eligibility tests for political parties, therefore, having a central registry where parties can register and deposit their names, symbols, colours, and logos would help prevent conflicts and enable voters to make informed choices.

CCC Writes To ZEC Over Case Of Name Similarity

The opposition party, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T), led by Douglas Mwonzora, has failed to field candidates in all constituencies in Zimbabwe, reportedly due to the party’s financial troubles.
The party’s information and publicity secretary, Witness Dube, told Voice of America (VOA) Studio 7 in an interview that they were unable to pay nomination fees for all their candidates across the country by the close of the Nomination Court. Dube could not provide further details and referred the press to the party’s president, Mwonzora. He said:

We failed to pay nomination fees for all our candidates across the country by close of the Nomination Court. Please get details from the president.

The party’s secretary general, Tapiwa Mashakada, issued a statement to all MDC-T provinces, advising all candidates to leave their forms at ZEC (Zimbabwe Electoral Commission) offices and disperse. Read the statement:

MDC-T Failed To Field Candidates In All Constituencies In Zimbabwe

Kadoma Mayor Action Nyamukondiwa and three other MDC-T councillors were recalled after being expelled from the opposition party.
Nyamukondiwa, representing Ward 9, and the other councillors representing Wards 3, 4, and 15 had their positions declared vacant in a letter from Minister of Local Government and Public Works July Moyo to Kadoma town clerk Mr Malvern Dondo. He said:

I wish to inform you that I am in receipt of a letter from the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) stating that Councillor Action Nyamukondiwa of Ward 9, Councillor Edson Muzira Ward 4, Councillor Nigel Rozario Ward 15 and Councillor Michael Mvura Ward 3 have been expelled from the party.
In terms of Section 278(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe as read with Section (1)(k), the above-mentioned wards are now vacant. In terms of Section 121 of the Electoral Act, please proceed to inform the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission of these vacancies.

The opposition party MDC (Movement for Democratic Change) has been recalling councillors and MPs (Members of Parliament) mainly for their allegiance to the rival Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa.
The recalls started immediately after the Supreme Court had ruled that Chamisa was not the legitimate leader of the MDC. There were internal disagreements and power struggles within the MDC party following the demise of founding leader, Morgan Tsvangirai.
The recalls have led to changes in the political landscape of Zimbabwe, with some seats being left vacant and by-elections being held to fill them.

Four MDC-T Councillors, Including Kadoma Mayor, Recalled

MDC-T leader, Senator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora">Douglas Mwonzora</a>, has lost a court case in which Senator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Elias_Mudzuri">Elias Mudzuri</a> and six others were challenging expulsions from the opposition formation.
One of the seven, Norest Marara, says the court outcome should result in the reinstatement of engineer Mudzuri in the senate where he had been recalled. Marara spoke to ZiFM:

Justice Munangati ruled that it was indeed unconstitutional to say we had self-expelled ourselves. The basis was that Mr Mwonzora did not oppose that application that we sought in the High Court. It’s indeed a great day, it’s indeed great news. It means the recall for Senator Mudzuri must be reversed. We need to do the legal processes to have the recall of Senator Mudzuri reversed.

<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/mwonzora-expels-mudzuri-6-other-suspended-officials-from-mdc/">Mwonzora announced the expulsion</a> of former party vice president Elias Mudzuri and six other long-serving members from the party on 6 February this year.
Mudzuri and the other six officials were all on suspension for allegedly committing acts of gross misconduct by taking the MDC to court. Mwonzora said last month:

We have lifted the suspensions on Senator Mudzuri and the 6 others that is because the suspensions serve no purpose. In terms of our constitution, they have expelled themselves from the party by taking the party to court.

Mwonzora then <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/mdc-t-leader-mwonzora-recalls-elias-mudzuri-from-senate/">recalled Mudzuri from the Upper House alleging</a> that he had ceased to belong to his party.
In a vacancy notice to the Senate on Tuesday, deputy president of the senate <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mike_Nyambuya">Michael Reuben Nyambuya</a> said the MDC-T informed him that Sen Mudzuri ceased to be a member of the party with effect from February 1.
Mudzuri was expelled alongside Norest Marara, Gift Konjana (Mashonaland West province chairperson), John Nyika (Masvingo province chairperson), Den Moyo (US province chairperson), Edwin Dzambara (secretary for Education) and Edwin Kakora (national executive member).

Mwonzora Loses Court Battle Against Mudzuri, 6 Others

MDC-T Break-away group, led by Elias Mudzuri and other suspended members, has said the party led by Senator Douglas Mwonzora currently does not have the capacity to rebuild Zimbabwe.
The group made the remarks during a press conference held in Harare on Thursday 02 February 2023. Said the group:

We do not think that we do have a party that can actually do the job for us to bring true liberation to Zimbabweans who are suffering, you know economic problems we are facing.
</blockquote>
The group said there is a need for the opposition MDC-T to reorganise and restructure and put the right people for the right decisions to be made.
The break-away party consists of Mudzuri, Norest Marara, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gift_Konjana">Gift Konjana</a>, John Nyika, Den Moyo, Edwin Dzambara, and Edwin Kakora who were suspended from the MDC-T last month allegedly for breaking party rules, having illegal meetings, and undermining the democratic procedures of the organisation.
Following the suspension, Mudzuri <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/mudzuri-vows-to-resist-expulsion-from-mdc-t/">vowed to resist expulsion</a> saying Mwonzora can only expel him on paper.
There has been a leadership crisis in the MDC-T since the 26 March 2022 by-elections in which the party did not win a single seat.
Some members of the MDC-T blame leader Senator Douglas Mwonzora for the loss and they hoped he would be replaced during the party’s <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/mdc-holds-5th-ordinary-congress/">5th Ordinary Congress</a> held at the City Sports Centre in Harare on Sunday, 18 December 2022. 
However, the MDC-T endorsed Mwonzora as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections.
Mudzuri and colleagues say the congress must be declared null and void because Mwonzora did not follow due process.

MDC-T Break-away Group: "Our Party Currently Doesn't Have Capacity To Rebuild Zimbabwe"

A breakaway group from the opposition MDC-T held a press conference in Harare this Thursday during which they denounced MDC-T leader Senator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora">Douglas Mwonzora.</a>
The group which consists of some senior opposition leaders including Engineer Elias Mudzuri, says it is aggrieved by many issues including a “shambolic” national congress.
MDC-T last month suspended Mudzuri, Norest Marara, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gift_Konjana">Gift Konjana</a>, John Nyika, Den Moyo, Edwin Dzambara, and Edwin Kakora allegedly for breaking party rules, having illegal meetings, and undermining the democratic procedures of the organisation.

During the presser, the group said since the passing of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Movement_for_Democratic_Change">MDC’</a>s founding leader, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Morgan_Tsvangirai">Morgan Tsvangirai</a>, the party degenerated into chaos and lost its ethos and values.
Addressing the media, Mudzuri said the party was violating the principles of democracy.
He said the national congress led by Mwonzora is null and void as it did not follow the MDC-T constitution. 
Mudzuri said his group seeks to restore order in the MDC-T party. He said consultations with all structures of the party are in the process in a bid to map a way forward for the party. 
Asked why the electorate should trust a party that is going through a leadership crisis a few months before the election, Mudzuri said members of the MDC were not ready for any election. He said members were not consulted when a congress meant to choose their representatives were chosen. 
He said they intend to build proper and vibrant structures.

MDC-T Break Away Addresses A Press Conference

The MDC-led by Douglas Mwonzora has suspended seven senior members among them Elias Mudzuri pending investigations and disciplinary action by the party.
In a statement, MDC national chairperson Solomon Chikohwero said the seven are facing serious disciplinary charges, which he however, did not specify. Read the statement:

These members are facing serious disciplinary charges and their suspensions are in terms of Clause 9.1.2.3 of the Party’s Constitution.
The hearings will be conducted in terms of the MDC Constitution and their rights as accused persons will be respected.

MDC Suspends Seven Senior Officials

MDC-T President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora">Douglas Mwonzora</a> has dismissed claims that the party carried out a dubious nomination process ahead of the upcoming congress.  
Speaking during a press conference held at the party headquarters after the party secretary for programs and business Norest Marara raised alarm about the nomination, Mwonzora said the process was done in a transparent manner.
Marara declared his interest to run for the party’s top position challenging the incumbent Douglas Mwonzora.
However, Mwonzora claimed no one contested his position.
Marara insists that due process was not followed and therefore approached the court.
Speaking during the press conference Mwonzora said his party was leading by example as far as internal democracy is concerned. <a href="https://openparly.com/mdc-t-congress-the-nomination-process-was-transparent-says-mwonzora/">Open Parly</a> quotes him as saying:

We have done our nominations in a transparent and robust way.
The MDC is an example of a thriving internal democracy, every position was up for grabs and everybody who wanted any position was free to contest it.
And people did canvas support for the position that they wanted.
Congress is preceded by the nomination process and the nomination process is preceded by setting of the rules governing the internal processes.
Before Congress, we develop rules for the elections these rules are developed by the elections directorate and then presented by the National Council.

Mwonzora said he was glad that Marara took the matter to the High Court where it was dismissed as being not urgent. He said:

We are very happy that Mr Marara took his case to court where people who are not us presided over it.
</blockquote>
He added that no one was stopped from contesting the elections saying he was clear that his position was up for grabs and, “I am the only opposition leader who dares to do that.”
Marara is one of the MDC-T candidates who lost in the 26 March by-elections. He is said to have openly told the executive in one meeting that the party performed dismally because Mwonzora was not sellable to the people.

Mwonzora Dismisses Claims That MDC-T's Nomination Process Was Unprocedural

Glen View South Member of Parliament, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Vincent_Tsvangirai">Vincent Tsvangirai</a>, has said he has not left the MDC-T but is just ashamed to be associated with what was done by party leader <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora">Douglas Mwonzora.</a>
Tsvangirai is the son of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Morgan_Tsvangirai">Morgan Tsvangirai</a> the late founding leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).
In an interview with <a href="https://openparly.com/i-have-not-left-mdc-t-i-am-just-ashamed-of-what-happened-says-vincent-tsvangirai/">Open Parly</a>, Tsvangirai said if Mwonzora is still the party leader, he will see out his term but will not contest in 2023. He said:
<blockquote>
The national council that took place on the 20th of November in my opinion was a shame and a disgrace to democracy and what MDC stands for. In my opinion, it was what may be considered what breaks the camel’s back.
The MDC in its acronym is democracy, to say what took place was democratic, should be rejected by anyone who believes in democratic practices.
I have not left MDC, I love my party, but I am ashamed of my leader, and I did not think that Douglas Mwonzora would go to that extent to preserve his position.
Those who are in the MDC who are genuine about the struggle and what the MDC stands for should reject and utterly shame the process that took place on the 20th.
I will serve out the rest of my term and don’t think I will contest in 2023 under the presidency of Douglas Mwonzora. My principles will not allow it and I cannot go to the people and say please vote for us we want to deliver change in this country and democracy when we are not practicing it ourselves.
We must lead by example and then go to the people and request their support because we believe in what we are fighting for, but what we did on Sunday was nothing that we can go to the people and say we stand for this. That is my opinion I cannot recognize such a process.

Tsvangirai added that the MDC-T has failed to adhere to its own constitution, something which triggered a leadership crisis in the party in 2018. 
His remarks come after an MDC-T national council meeting allegedly endorsed Mwonzora as party leader ahead of the 5th congress.
The same meeting also endorsed Mwonzora as the party’s candidate for the 2023 Presidential elections allegedly without following proper procedure.
Tsvangirai said Mwonzora failed or neglected to ensure a secret ballot and that could have intimidated other aspiring candidates.
He added that other aspiring candidates were not aware that there was going to be voting, and the people who were supposed to vote were also not aware of the process.

"I Have Not Left MDC, I Love My Party" - Vincent Tsvangirai

Opposition <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a> interim chairperson for Matebeleland North, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Prince_Dubeko_Sibanda">Prince Dubeko Sibanda</a>, has claimed that the ruling ZANU PF has “chickened out” of the Binga by-elections.
The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Electoral_Commission">Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC)</a>, recently announced council by-elections in Binga, Victoria Falls and Gweru.
All the seats fell vacant after the incumbent councillors were recalled by the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/MDC_Alliance">MDC Alliance</a> party led by Senator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora">Douglas Mwonzora.</a>
The by-elections are slated for early next month.
Prince Dubeko Sibanda told NewZimbabwe that the campaign environment in Binga was “peaceful and calm” ahead of the polls. He said:

This is one of the elections which CCC is literally campaigning alone,” the opposition legislator said.
ZANU PF and its surrogate MDC-T seems to have chickened out from the by- election race despite the fact that they are the ones who caused the polls to happen.
Our people are campaigning peacefully here.
However, we are aware that ZANU PF normally has a strategy of unleashing violence during the last days of the polls; we are ready for them.

"ZANU PF And Its Surrogate MDC-T Seem To Have Chickened Out From Binga By-election" - CCC

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Electoral_Commission">Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC)</a> has announced the cancellation of Ward 8 Victoria Falls Municipality vacancy that had been advertised on 20 October 2022. 
In a statement seen by Pindula News, ZEC said the cancellation was necessitated by a letter by Victoria Falls Town Clerck which stated that the recall of the incumbent was erroneous. Reads the statement issued by Mr Utoile Silaigwana, the ZEC chief elections officer:

This notice serves to advise the public that the Election Notice published by the Commission on 20 October 2022 on the occurrence of a vacancy in Ward 8 of Victoria Falls Municipality is hereby withdrawn. This withdrawal follows a letter dated 3 November 2022 by the Town Clerk of Victoria Falls Municipality advising the Commission that the MDC-T had erroneously recalled the incumbent Councillor.

Three weeks ago, opposition MDC-T led by Senator Douglas Mwonzora, recalled two Victoria Falls councillors accusing them of defying party protocol and siding with rival opposition, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa.
Councillors for Ward 7 and 8, in that order, Thuso Moyo, and Josepha Dzangai were ordered to vacate their seats.
Town Clerk Ronnie Dube wrote to the two councillors advising them that the Minister of Local Government and Public Works had informed his office that they had been expelled from the Movement for Democratic Change T (MDC-T) party. Dube wrote:

ZEC Announces Cancellation Of Ward 8 Victoria Falls Municipality Vacancy

The opposition MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora has disputed remarks made over the weekend by its national chairperson, Morgen Komichi, who said the party will contest upcoming by-elections after boycotting all by-elections held after 26 March 2022.
Komichi told an online publication that the party had fielded representatives in all the vacant wards. He was quoted as saying:

This time around we are going to take part in the upcoming by-elections. We have already identified through consensus our candidates. We are urging Zimbabweans to vote for the MDC-T.

However, in a statement released on Monday, MDC-T spokesperson Witness Dube refuted Komichi’s comments saying the party’s position on by-elections has not changed. Dube said:

A report by an online newspaper on the 31st of October 2022 suggesting that we will be participating in the upcoming by-elections is not the correct party position but simply statements attributable to our National Chairperson Morgen Komichi.

We Have Not Changed Our Stance On By-elections - Mwonzora's MDC-T

The opposition MDC-T led by Senator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora">Douglas Mwonzora</a> has made a U-turn on participation in by-elections.
Following poor performance during the 26 March by-elections, MDC-T resolved not to partake in any by-elections choosing to wait for the 2023 elections.
The party’s National Chairperson, Morgen Komichi, however, said the party will field candidates in forthcoming local authority by-elections after having a relook at the earlier position, he told NewZimbabwe.com in a recent interview.
He speaks as the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) last week announced that the nomination court will receive nomination papers for Binga, Victoria Falls and Gweru by-elections on November 3, while polling will be held on December 3.
Komichi, also known as Baba Abrahama in political circles, says they will participate this time. He said:

This time around we are going to take part in the upcoming by-elections. We have already identified through consensus our candidates. We are urging Zimbabweans to vote for the MDC-T.
Our party is the only political party which can bring real change in Zimbabwe. Our people have suffered a lot under ZANU PF.

In Binga, the by-elections will be held in Wards 6, 8, 10, 15, 20 and 23 while in Gweru the elections are set for Wards 4, 5 and 18. In Victoria Falls, Ward 8 will have by-elections. 
The posts arose mostly as a result of recalls of incumbent councillors and Members of Parliament (MPs) by the MDC-T.

Mwonzora-led MDC-T Changes Stance On By-elections

The MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora recently recalled three Gweru urban councillors on allegations of hobnobbing with CCC led by Nelson Chamisa.
The three councillors, Martin Chivhoko ward 4, Cleopas Shiri ward 5 and John Manyundwa ward 18 were recalled on 17 October.
Acting Gweru Town Clerk Douglas has since written to them notifying them of their expulsion and declaring vacancies in their wards.
A letter from Local Government and Public Works minister July Moyo dated 11 October 2022 informed Chikwekwe of the trio’s recall by the MDC-T. Reads this letter:

I wish to inform you that, I am in receipt of a letter from the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) stating that the following councillors have been expelled from the party: Cllr Martin Chivhoko ward 4, Cllr Cleopas Shiri ward 5 and Cllr John Manyundwa ward 18.
In terms of section 278 (1) of the constitution of Zimbabwe, as read with section (1) (k) the above-mentioned wards are now vacant.

<a href="https://tellzim.com/douglas-mwonzora-recalls-3-gweru-councillors/">TellZim News</a> reported a source as saying the three councillors were being punished for refusing to agree to the awarding of “Freedom of City Status” of Gweru to President Mnangagwa a few weeks ago. Said the source:

The three councillors were targeted for being vocal in declining the suggestion to award President Mnangagwa the freedom of city status in Gweru though they also have made it public knowledge that they follow Chamisa and CCC.

Shiri said the recall was overdue as he expected it long back, as far back as ten months ago. He said:

I have been waiting for the recall for the past 10 months after being threatened for refusing to step down as Deputy Mayor to pave way for Ward 9 councillor Edson Kurebgaseka.
My recall is on the basis of politicking and refusing to accord Freedom of the City status to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mwonzora recently recalled six councillors from Binga Rural District Council and two more from Victoria Falls.

Mwonzora Recalls Three Gweru Urban Councillors

The MDC-T says it is conducting a restructuring exercise in preparation for an ordinary congress that will be held before the end of the year.
Key positions including that of the party president, currently occupied by Douglas Mwonzora, vice president, and organising secretary, among others will be contested.
MDC-T national spokesperson, Witness Dube, said that the date for the ordinary congress depends on the completion of provincial structures and the availability of funds for the national congress. He added:

The structures have to be adopted by the national council, automatically giving the president the mandate to call for a national election after 30 days.
We are about 70 per cent complete and we don’t declare a date until everything is complete, that is structures are tabled and adopted by the national council.
The structures become the voting college and are subject to the national council for adjudication, if there are no issues, the structures are passed as a record and kept in custody.
MDC-T holds its ordinary congress after five years and when our ordinary congress was due, the Supreme Court (ruling of May 2020) took us back to the 2014 structures that were used to hold the extraordinary congress issue but our constitution is very specific…

MDC-T Shadow Cabinet And Ministers Of State | FULL LIST

Polling Agents that participated in the 2018 elections for the MDC T are yet to be paid according to Newsday. The matter reportedly came to light during a meeting between the party President Douglas Mwonzora and the party’s executive where the reasons for not paying the election agents were not given.
Speaking after the meeting, Douglas Mwonzora’s spokesperson Lloyd Damba said they had resolved to pay all polling agents that were not paid:
<blockquote>He (Mwonzora) promised to pay the polling agents who were not paid in the 2018 elections. In his (Mwonzora) address to the Harare provincial council, he reiterated his call for national dialogue, engagement and reconciliation without pre-conditions, adding that the dialogue they want should be genuine, transparent, and meaningful with clear objectives.

MDC T Still To Pay 2018 Polling Agents

Thokozani Khupe has reportedly accepted the appointment as the MDC-T vice president by newly-elected president Douglas Mwonzora.
Mwonzora was elected president at the party’s chaotic extraordinary congress held at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on Sunday.
Party insiders told Zim Morning Post that Khupe has accepted the post with reservations as she wants to be the only deputy president and also to retain the position of the leader of the opposition in parliament. A source was reported as saying:
<blockquote>Khupe accepted the appointment but she is of the opinion that she should be the only VP,” said the source.
The praesidium is yet to meet but she has already pointed out that she prefers to be the only deputy to Mwonzora.
Another bone of contention is the position of the leader of the opposition in parliament.
Khupe wanted to retain that position but Mwonzora rejected the request so that he can assume the position.</blockquote>
Mwonzora was declared the winner of the hotly disputed poll ahead of Khupe, Elias Mudzuri and Morgen Komichi.
In his first press conference as the new MDC-T leader, Mwonzora appointed Khupe and Mudzuri as his deputies.

Khupe 'Finally' Accepts MDC-T Vice President Position - REPORT

There were chaotic scenes at the MDC-T’s Supreme Court-ordered extraordinary congress at the Harare International Conference (HICC) this Sunday after some delegates could not find their names on the voters’ roll. Party officials stopped the voting process and hold journalists who were interviewing delegates to go out as they were stalling the voting process. Reporters were later called back peacefully to allow the proceedings to take place. The congress is aimed at electing the heir to the late party founding leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, who succumbed to cancer on 14 February 2018.

The opposition MDC-T has reportedly made arrangements with State-owned public transporter, ZUPCO, to ferry delegates to its extraordinary congress in Harare this Sunday.
This follows reports of the “disappearance” of US$60 000 which the party received from the government under the Political Parties Finance Act.
NewZimbabwe.com cited sources saying the MDC-T was forced to enter into a last-minute agreement with ZUPCO with promises to settle the debt within two weeks. A source is quoted as having said:
<blockquote>We have been aware that congress will go ahead as the national council has made arrangements with ZUPCO buses to carry delegates to Harare and they will pay later.
We are shocked that the National Council is silent on this following a letter from the deputy treasurer-general exposing the rot and how the money has been abused.
We fear that the whole leadership may have benefitted from the loot because why is such a case of fraud being swept under the carpet.</blockquote>
MDC-T interim chairperson Morgen Komichi said the party has provided buses in all provinces to carry delegates from the main roads.

ZUPCO To Ferry MDC-T Congress Delegates

Vice President and Health and Child Care Development Minister Constantino Chiwenga on Thursday authorised the MDC-T to hold its extra-ordinary congress (EOC) at the Harare Rainbow Towers Hotel (HLCC) on Sunday 27 December 2020.
In a letter addressed MDC-T Secretary General, Douglas Mwonzora, the Acting Chief Director Curative Services for the Ministry of Health and Child Care, one Dr M. Hove outlined the protocols that the party has to follow during voting.
Hove said there must be temperature screening at the entrance or designated points and every delegate must wear a face mask.
The delegates are also expected to sit 1.5 metres away from each other including in buses and other forms of transport used and the venue of the congress must be disinfected/sanitized before every 100 batches of delegates votes.
Hove further advised the MDC-T that the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) will monitor the event for compliance and health workers will monitor compliance including disinfection of the premises.

Chaos is reportedly rocking the MDC T faction led by Thokozani Khupe after it emerged that the decision to <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/12/19/full-text-mdc-t-postpones-congress-again/">cancel the congress</a> was due to alleged voter’s roll manipulation, The standard reports.
It further emerged that over US$29 000 was allegedly given to some delegates secretly which also fuel another war in the court-sanctioned outfit.
According to the publication, dozens of delegates reportedly camped outside Harvest house yesterday evening demanding to meet Khupe because she allegedly blocked the disbursement of transport allowances.
Before the incident at the party headquarters, the party’s standing committee was forced to hold an emergency meeting at another aspiring president Elias Mudzuri’s house because of the stand-off at Harvest House.
A day earlier on Friday,  Mwonzora and the party’s deputy treasurer-general Chief Ndlovu, reportedly exchanged harsh words during Friday’s meeting over the party’s finances.
A party insider who spoke to the publication about why a party meeting was being held at Mudzuri’s house said they had to improvise due to the standoff at Harvest House:
<blockquote>That is why the national standing committee meeting was held at Mudzuri’s house, there were some stranded delegates at the party headquarters. It was also feared that Mwonzora’s youth militia could turn violent.</blockquote>
Mwonzora. Khupe, Mudzuri and Komichi both want to be the party’s president. Tapiwa Mashakada dismissed reports that money was missing in the party’s books.

MDC-T chairperson Morgen Komichi said he has what it takes to lead the opposition party to victory in the much-anticipated 2023 elections.
The Midlands senator will challenge MDC-T interim leader Thokozani Khupe, secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora and senior politician Elias Mudzuri for the presidency at the party’s extraordinary congress this December to replace the founding party leader, the late Morgan Tsvangirai.
Speaking in an interview with NewZimbabwe.com on Monday, Komichi promised to unite the fractious party and provide a formidable challenge to the ruling ZANU PF. He said:
<blockquote>I am the choice of the delegates. The opposition politics in Zimbabwe needs a leader who can unify fragmented factions to form a formidable force against Zanu PF.
I will bring all opposition parties together to set up a formidable opposition front against Zanu PF come 2023 general elections.
I will lead the party myself but will be consulting the people where necessary.</blockquote>
The MDC-T will hold an extraordinary congress in December this year to replace the founding party leader, the late Morgan Tsvangirai.
This follows a ruling by the High Court last year, which was upheld by the Supreme Court this year, directing the party to revert to its 2014 structures and elect a new leader to choose a substantive president.

Opposition MDC-T’s 2014 structures in MashWest met Saturday for feedback from the party’s districts ahead of the expected Supreme Court-sanctioned extraordinary Congress set for December this year.
The congress is meant to elect the successor to the party’s founding leader the late Morgan Tsvangirai who succumbed to cancer in 2018.
MDC-T is currently under the leadership of the interim president Thokozani Khupe, secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora, chairperson Morgen Komichi and others who were reinstated by the Supreme Court ruling on the MDC leadership crisis.

The acting president of the Supreme Court-created MDC-T, Thokozani Khupe, has been barred from attending Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) meetings until she gets a fresh mandate from the party’s congress.
The party’s acting deputy national chairperson Morgen Komichi told the Daily News that Khupe cannot continue with POLAD because the party which initially seconded her to the negotiations is different from the one she is now leading. Said Komichi:
<blockquote>For now, she cannot continue with POLAD because we have agreed that the decision on who we engage with politically should be subjected to party structures, preferably congress.
Remember that the party that seconded her to Parliament is not the same party that she is leading. The president takes instructions from the party that she leads and that party has not seconded her to POLAD.</blockquote>
However, responding to Komichi’s assertion, Khupe’s spokesperson, Khaliphani Phugeni, who also doubles as the party’s information secretary said Khupe could not attend recent POLAD meetings as she is preoccupied with preparations for the extra-ordinary congress directed by the Supreme Court.
An MDC-T national standing committee member told the Daily News that some officials who are eyeing the party’s presidency came up with the idea for Khupe to cease participation in POLAD. The official is quoted as having said:
<blockquote>Remember Komichi, (Douglas) Mwonzora and (Elias) Mudzuri all want to be president and they do not want to be labelled Zanu PF like what is happening to Khupe.
They want to be seen as genuine opposition leaders who are not tied to Mnangagwa’s apron strings so they are the people who came up with the idea.</blockquote>

Gift Chimanikire who was the President of the Post and Telecommunications Union and is currently the National Deputy Organising 
Secretary of MDC-T, Hon. Paurina Mpariwa who was the Chairperson of the ZCTU Women’s Advisory Council and a General Council Member, she is currently the Deputy Secretary-General of MDC-T and yours truly Dr Thokozani Khupe who was the Secretary of the ZCTU Women’s Advisory Council and a General council member. Currently, she is the Acting President of MDCT.
These 8 Women and Men then united with other groups that include but not limited to the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA), Women’s Clubs, Students movement and the Church and met at a Working People’s Convention in February 1999, in Harare where various issues pertaining to Zimbabwe were discussed.
After unanimously noting the failure and inability of the Mugabe’s administration to govern the country in a just, transparent, honest, fair and equitable manner, the Convention noted the need and desire for the formation of a political movement.
On the 11th of September 1999, the Movement for Democratic Change was then formed which would advance and promote human rights and the setting up of a government based on the principles of 
freedom and good governance.
The MDC is a social-democratic party whose core values are solidarity, justice, equality, liberty, freedom, transparency, humble and obedient leadership and accountability.
One of its objectives is to pursue social liberation policies aimed at completing the unfinished business of the Liberation Struggle.
The character and culture of the party are that of being a pro-poor and people-centred, non- racial and non-sexist movement that strongly believes in gender parity and the 50-50 gender representation principle.
It is a movement that was built on a foundation of constitutionalism, democracy, non-discrimination and non-violence.
The MDC is against the use of violence as a means of attaining political power. It supports the emancipation of women and its leadership shall be accountable to the people and the leadership shall be at all material times be a Transformative leadership who will always move away from advancing their personal interests and move towards 
working for the common good.
The MDC started participating in elections in 2000 when it was nine months old and it performed extremely well winning 57 seats out of 120 seats.
In 2008 the MDC-T made history and beat Zanu PF for the first time since 1980 with 100 seats against Zanu PF 99 seats and MDC Ncube 10 seats and one Independent, this lead to the formation of an Inclusive Government, with Dr Morgan Tsvangirai being the Prime Minister and yours truly Dr Thokozani Khupe being the Deputy Prime Minister.
The lives of many Zimbabweans changed during this period, hospitals that had closed, schools that had closed and shops that had closed opened.
However, a dark cloud befell us on the 14th of February 2018 when our founding President Dr Morgan Tsvangirai passed on.
Hell broke loose after his demise as our erstwhile colleagues decided to take over power through unconstitutional and violent means.
Some of the leadership were beaten and almost burnt in a hut in Buhera at the former President’s burial. After the matter was taken to court the Supreme court ruled that the MDC’s constitution be followed through, which clearly states under article 9.2.1.1 which says “in the event of the death or resignation of the President, the Deputy President assumes the role of Acting President, pending the holding of an Extra-Ordinary Congress that shall be held to elect a new President which Extra-Ordinary Congress to be held no later than a year from the death or resignation of the former President”.
This is where the party is at the moment and had it not been for Covid-19 the Extra-ordinary Congress (E.O.C) would have been conducted on the 31st July 2020.
The party has since approached the Supreme Court for a variation and the matter will be heard on the 1st of October 2020.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank MDC-T members for remaining resolute and firm under these difficult circumstances. Let me also thank Zimbabweans in a special way for observing the National Lockdown measures during these difficult times of COVID-19.
We stood united as a nation during the fight to save lives for it is the only way we could overcome and defeat the pandemic.
We stayed at home, embraced social distancing measures which are a new normal. We shall continue to fight until we arrive at our destination where every Zimbabwean has a Better Life. Forward Ever, Backwards Never.
We shall continue to fight using the spaces that we have which include Parliament and Local authorities we control. We shall continue to question government and hold them to account for their actions to the people, we shall challenge government policies and proffer solutions and we will continue to be the eyes and ears of the citizens regarding their concerns and challenge government to act and satisfy the needs of the people.
Let us unite as citizens and hold hands because one hand cannot move a mountain but many hands can do so.
Let us unite and move the mountain of Poverty,
Let us unite and move the mountain of Hunger,
Let us unite and move the mountain of Corruption,
Let us unite and move the mountain of disunity,

FULL TEXT: Acting President Thokozani Khupe's MDC-T 21st Anniversary Message

The opposition MDC-T’s Mashonaland Central’s provincial executive has recommended the recalling of the Mayor of  Bindura Carlos Tokyo and eight other councillors for failing to respect the party’s leadership.
The leadership wrote to the party’s interim president, Thokozani Khupe saying the councillors were no longer serving the interests of the party and their recall was in line with their party’s constitution. Read the letter in part:
<blockquote>We hope you will urgently execute this exercise as a matter of urgency and within the earliest possible time. Further delays will greatly disadvantage the MDC-T party.</blockquote>
This comes when the party’s interim leadership has in the recent past recalled a number of legislators and councillors whom it seeks to replace by new appointees as by-elections are currently suspended.
The issue has attracted criticism on the part of the MDC-T interim leadership which is accused of lacking morals by recalling officials that were elected by the electorate and replacing them with the ones they want.
