An 18-year-old man from Niniva Village, Mbembesi is alleged to have murdered his 49-year-old father by stabbing him in the chest with a spear during a domestic dispute.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, which took place on Saturday, October 19.
In a statement released on Monday, the ZRP said the father bled profusely from the injury, ultimately resulting in his death. Police said:
ZRP confirms the arrest of Abel Ncube, 18, in connection with a case of murder which occurred at a homestead in Niniva Village, Mbembesi on 19 October 2024 in which his father, Dumezweni Ncube, 49, died.

The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim once on the left side of the chest with a spear after a domestic dispute.
The victim bled profusely and passed on. The body of the victim was taken to United Bulawayo Group of Hospitals for post-mortem.

Police, however, did not give further details on the incident.
Incidents of children killing their biological parents are unfortunately prevalent in Zimbabwe.
In May of this year, a 62-year-old man from Mukumbura was beaten to death by his son after being reprimanded for his laziness and reliance on his wife for support. The 39-year-old son reportedly struck his father multiple times with a wooden log, resulting in his death.
In a separate incident last year, a 20-year-old man from Mvurwi allegedly stoned his 61-year-old father to death and then burned the body beyond recognition, a case that was associated with mental illness.

Sadly, this is not the first time a child has killed their parent in Zimbabwe. In another case, a man was beaten to death by his son, and in another, a son stoned his father to death. These incidents are very sad and show that we must find ways to resolve conflicts peacefully without violence.

18-Year-Old Man Murders Father With Spear In Domestic Dispute

A 38-year-old man from Sojini, Mbembesi was shot in the left shoulder by a police officer last week.
The shooting incident reportedly occurred at the Mbembesi Police Station’s canteen after a fight erupted among revellers who were regular patrons.
The victim, Raymond Mkhomaza, is currently admitted at United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) where he is receiving treatment.
Speaking to CITE’s <a href="https://cite.org.zw/man-shot-by-cop-at-mbembesi-police-station-canteen/">Senzeni Ncube</a> on Friday, Mkhomaza said the bullet was still lodged inside his body. He said:

The incident occurred on Sunday around 5 am. We were drinking at the police canteen, we usually drink there as villagers and commotion erupted and we started fighting as patrons.
The police on duty came carrying a gun and headed straight to me as I was also fighting and in that commotion he pushed me, making me turn and he shot me.
I went to the charge office to report that I have been shot. I have spent six days here and the bullet is still inside.
I still have to go for an X-ray as the doctor said the bullet missed my heart, and I have a lot of air inside.

Matabeleland North Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident to CITE but said the victim was part of a group that was deemed a threat as they were armed with “offensive weapons”. Said Banda:

It happened in Mbembesi of course, I know the story. It’s been a while since it happened, it is not a new thing.
What happened was that these guys were found in the early morning hours at Mbembesi police canteen, they were holding some knobkerries and other offensive weapons.
Whatever they were carrying suggested that they were up to some evil because there is a history of theft at the canteen.
When they were asked what they were doing, they said “we are not afraid of your gun” and started advancing towards the policeman.

Banda said the policeman fired two warning shots but the men continued advancing towards him. He said:

The policeman had no option, then the other man was shot in the shoulder.
The next morning, the man who was shot in the shoulder showed up at the police station, saying he sustained an injury and was arrested.

Insp. Banda denied claims that Mkhomaza was drinking with other patrons when he was shot. He said:
<blockquote>
That was not the time to drink and drinking has nothing to do with carrying knobkerries. You don’t need a knobkerrie to drink, you only need your money.
You don’t need weapons if you are about to drink, and if you are drinking it doesn’t mean you advance towards the policeman and try to attack him.
That incident has nothing to do with drinking.

Police have in the past banned the carrying of dangerous weapons that include catapults, machetes, axes, knobkerries, swords, knives, or daggers in order to curb violent crime.

Man Shot By A Police Officer At Mbembesi Police Station Canteen

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints working with the government on Friday handed over a maternity facility at Mbembesi clinic in Insuza to the community. The facility cost US$230 000 to build.
The building work on the site started in July with support from the Rural Based Fund (RBF) and the church took over the construction of the maternity shelter in 2022.
The shelter comprises a delivery room and post-natal area complete with furnishings, showers, toilets, a sluice room, a hot water geyser and solar power.
Medical equipment which includes a prenatal scanner and various other equipment was also donated.
The church also replaced walls and ceilings, refurbished the interior and exterior of existing buildings, and repaired toilets and plumbing.
Speaking during the handover of the Clinic, the Church Representative, president Mzingaye Ndlovu said:

When we got here, we inquired what we can do to assist in finishing up the clinic.
There was a clinic block that we assisted in finishing up and we started other blocks.
We built houses for the clinic staff and we also put JoJo tanks.
We put a solar system that is not only powering Mbembesi clinic but it’s connected in a way that it feeds to the ZESA grid to assist other communities.

Minister of State for Matabeleland North and Provincial Affairs, Richard Moyo, commended the church for building the maternity shelter.
