Police in Mashonaland Central Province have discovered the remains of approximately seven people in a mine shaft at Elvingz Mine, located on Makalanga Farm in Mazowe.
Deputy provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Major Samuel Chikasha told <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/remains-of-7-people-discovered-in-old-shaft/">The Herald</a> that the remains were found at the top of a mountain where open-cast mining is currently taking place, reaching depths of about 30 metres.
He said the mining operations at Elvingz Mine are linked with an old German shaft where the remains were located.
Sgt Major Chikasha said that debris removed from the shaft by an excavator included old torn black plastic, ragged clothing, damaged shoe heels, tattered blankets, suspected human bones, and human hair, as well as ten pairs of trousers in green, maroon, and brown colours. He said:

Some trousers had human bones inside suggesting that a human body was thrown in the shaft intact.
The bones had lost shape due to decomposition. Black and white plastic papers were also in the shaft.

Sgt Major Chikasha appealed to people with information that could assist in the investigation and identification of bodies to visit the nearest police station.
He said the remains will be sent to Parirenyatwa Hospital for forensic examination to establish the possible number of bodies, period of death and probable cause of death.
It is alleged that on August 31, 2024, at approximately 7:30 AM, Luckson Mufunga (35), Marshal Ngwenta (22), and Kimpton Geza (40), employees of Lingyong Zimbabwe, were contracted by Elvingz Mine to drill holes in preparation for blasting.
While assessing the shaft, Mufunga used an excavator to remove a heap of debris, which included plastic, torn clothing, and damaged shoe heels.
Upon closer inspection, he discovered what appeared to be dislodged human bones and hair. He promptly informed his coworkers, who confirmed the presence of the human remains.
Mine manager Webster Chikuku was notified, and a police report was filed. The following day, CID Bindura and forensic experts arrived at the scene to investigate further.

Zimbabwe police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Senior Paul Nyathi, has released information about the people who died in road accidents on the Harare-Mukumbura Road near Mazowe and the Harare-Bulawayo Road. Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s press statement released on 18th December 2023 on a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on the 18th December 2023 at the 43-kilometre peg along Harare-Mukumbura Road in which nine people were killed whilst three others were injured.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police releases names of the victims who died in the accident and another road traffic accident which occurred on 15th December 2023 along Harare-Bulawayo Road near National Museum of African Liberation, Harare, where eight people were killed whilst eight others were injured.
The victims were identified by their next of kin as listed:-

The identification of three other victims is awaiting DNA results.

Nyathi said the remaining victim is yet to be identified. He also emphasized that it is important for drivers to follow the speed limits and obey traffic laws to prevent road accidents. He specifically advised drivers to avoid travelling at night because many accidents happen during that time due to poor visibility and difficulties in observing the road. The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges everyone to prioritize safety and take precautions while driving.

Police Release Names Of People Who Died In Mazowe And Harare Accidents

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported on several criminal incidents that have taken place in different parts of the country. In various reports seen by Pindula News, police said these incidents include murder, robbery, accidents, and illegal possession of firearms.
In Mazowe, the police have arrested a woman named Sarah Chivadzwa (37) who is suspected to be mentally ill. She is connected to a murder case that occurred on December 14th, 2023 at Cetric Farm, Chebanga Village. The victim was her 7-year-old nephew who was struck on the head with an axe. The suspect had reportedly told her uncle that she had a nightmare in which she dreamt of killing her 5-year-old daughter.
In Harare, the police are seeking information regarding the identification of a deceased adult male. The body was found near Spar Supermarket, Current Shopping Centre in Budiriro 5 A. The victim had a cut on his head and was wearing black trousers and a torn purple shirt. Anyone with information is urged to report it to the nearest police station.
Another case in Harare involves a robbery that occurred along Mutare Road near Ruwa. The victim was stabbed multiple times on the thigh and back by five suspects who were travelling in a Honda CRV vehicle. The suspects offered the complainant a lift from Simon Muzenda bus terminus in Harare CBD to Mutare. They stole US$14,035.00 in cash and a cellphone. The police are appealing to the public for any information that can assist in the investigation.
In Jumbo Mine, Mazowe, the police arrested Leeward Chawata (24) for possession of a pistol without a certificate during an operation against machete gangs and illegal gold mining. Chawata was arrested while involved in a fight with artisanal miners.
The ZRP is actively investigating these cases and encourages the public to provide any relevant information that may assist in solving them.

Crime Watch: Man Stabbed And Robbed Of Over US$14,000 By People Who Offered Him Transport

A brick company was robbed of over US$25 000 cash in broad daylight on Saturday by robbers who pretended to be potential buyers.
A police report seen by Pindula News says the robbers who were armed with pistols also got away with six cell phones. Reads the statement:

The ZRP is investigating a robbery case which occurred at a brick company in Mazowe on 05/11/22 at around 1200 hours. Three unknown suspects, who were using an unregistered silver Honda Fit Hybrid vehicle, posed as genuine customers who intended to buy 60 000 bricks at the company. 
The trio was referred to the general manager’s office as they were negotiating for a discount. While in the general manager’s office, they withdrew two unidentified pistols and ordered everyone to lie down while demanding safe keys.
They stole US$ 25 340-00 and six cell phones before locking the six company employees in the company offices and speeding off in their getaway car.

Brick Company Robbed Of Over US$25K Cash In Broad Daylight

Six people died near <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mazowe_Dam">Mazowe Dam</a> on Friday night along the Harare-Bindura highway when a haulage truck ferrying fertilisers from Beira to Bindura veered off the road and overturned.
The accident occurred at the 36km peg along the Harare–Mukumbura Road at around 2000 hours.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), said:

A motorist who was driving a haulage truck due north with four passengers aboard failed to negotiate a curve, veered off the road to the right, and ran over six pedestrians before the haulage truck overturned and landed on its roof.
As a result, six people, four pedestrians and two passengers died on the spot, while five others, including the driver, were injured.

ZRP said the names of the victims will be released in due course.

Haulage Truck Veers Off The Road, Runs Over 6 Pedestrians And Overturns

One person died while three others were injured in an accident involving a Honda Fit and a Nissan Caravan along the Glendale-Chiweshe road on Thursday afternoon.
A witness, Brian Jonga, said the driver of the Honda Fit died on the spot. He told The Herald:

The accident occurred around 3 pm today (Thursday). The Nissan Caravan had three passengers who sustained what looked like serious injuries.

Honda Fit Driver Dies In Mazowe Accident

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has refuted a report by a local online publication claiming that police officers other State security agents assaulted a group of police officers in Mazowe, Mashonaland Central Province and forced them to abandon a roadblock.
A <a href="https://bulawayo24.com/index-id-news-sc-national-byo-211910.html">Bulawayo24.com report claimed</a> that a team of soldiers, central intelligence officers and police officers pounced on cops who were refusing to remove a roadblock in Mazowe.
The report further claimed that the joint team chased the police officers with switches.
It alleged the police officers manning the roadblock had to run for dear life and remove their drums on the road.
However, in a statement posted on their Twitter page this Sunday, police dismissed the report as false, saying reporters should verify stories given by their sources before publication. The statement read:

Police Refute Claims State Agents Assaulted Cops At Roadblock

Two people were killed in a plane crash at Chigumira Farm in Mazowe District, Mashonaland Central Province, on Thursday afternoon.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident that occurred just after 4.30 PM.  The police, however, did not reveal the identities of the victims of the accident. ZRP said in a statement on Friday:

Two People Die Mazowe Plane Crash

Police arrested two suspected robbers who allegedly pounced on a miner at Mazowe Mine and robbed him of US$130 after assaulting him with a beer bottle.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the two suspects were arrested at a police roadblock as they tried to escape.
Mashonaland Central acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo confirmed the arrest of Vigilance Mukanganwi (31) and Patson Katsande (32) from Harare, who allegedly robbed Denis Ndlovu (25). Dhliwayo said:

I can confirm a robbery case in Mazowe where Mukanganwi approached Ndlovu at his Amatola farm, Mazowe with an empty beer bottle and demanded beer, but Ndlovu told the suspect that he had no money.
The furious Mukanganwi struck Ndlovu with a broken bottle and assaulted him with clenched fists all over the body before robbing him of his money and fleeing to their gate-away car where Katsande was waiting for him.

In a different case, police have arrested two people for stealing a motorcycle. In a statement posted via ZRP Twiter handle, the police said:

On 27/08/21 Police in Banket arrested Try Tayara (44) and Wonder Matope (38) for Theft of motorcycle and farming inputs which occurred along Jacaranda Crescent.
The arrest led to the recovery of the motorcycle and various tobacco farming inputs. Investigations are in progress.

Two Robbers Arrested At A Roadblock

A man from Rushinga was fatally assaulted by five people in Mazowe after they accused him of stealing a solar panel and groceries.
Mashonaland Central provincial police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed the incident to NewsDay, which occurred last Friday, and identified the deceased as Rutendo Manyika. Said Insp Mundembe:
<blockquote>I can confirm a murder case at Plot 10, Mazowe where a Rushinga man was killed by five assailants, of which two of them have since been arrested and three are still at large.</blockquote>
Manyika allegedly broke into Tambudzai Musambo (58)’s tuckshop and stole goods worth US$76.
Passers-by allegedly alerted the tuckshop owner, who teamed up with Tafara Tinarwo, Alexander Manyika, Elliot Tauro and Talent Mapuwei and meted out instant justice on him.
Steven Chidavaenzi (41) discovered the dead body the next day and filed a police report, leading to the arrest of Musambo and Tinarwo.

Suspected Thief Bashed To Death In Mazowe

A Zanu PF MP for Mazowe Central Sydney Chidamba is reportedly going through disciplinary action after he allegedly undermined President Mnangagwa who was going to visit his constituency for a tree planting initiative, Bulawayo24 reports.
A source that spoke to the publication about the development said:
<blockquote>Chidamba is on a disciplinary course because We were planning about HE’s visit which was to be in his constituency.
He walked out of the meeting and went to address three districts when the entire Mazowe and Provincial Leadership, PB member Cde Machacha, chiefs , headmen, war vetarans leadership, were in a crucial meeting to plan for HE’s visit showing clearly that he did not value the visit .
Evidence show that he preferred to go and campaign for his preferred DCC candidate where he donated flour, balls and paint instead of planning for the visit.</blockquote>
Chisamba was reportedly also fingered in a gold rush fiasco in the region allegations he reportedly denied when he was called by the publication and said he doesn’t own a gold claim.

Christon Bank Environment and Tourism Association spokesperson Ms Avril Dlamini has said that gold panners and squatters were showing disrespect to Mbuya Nehanda’s shrine in Mazowe valley, about 20 kilometres from Harare.
It is reported that gold panners are cutting down of trees, digging tunnels in and around the shrine. Resultantly, Christon Bank has approached the government for intervention. Ms Dlamini said:
<blockquote>The shrine was home to Mbuya Nehanda and it was the epicentre of the liberation struggle, but total disrespect is now being shown to this heritage site.
This is an agro-residential area. It is the green belt of Harare, but the very trees we are supposed to preserve are being cut left, right and centre, and nobody cares.</blockquote>
Nehanda was a powerful spirit medium and heroine of the First Chimurenga war against British colonial settlers in the 1890s.
Her remains and those of Sekuru Kaguvi are in the United Kingdom where they are displayed in a museum as trophies of war and authorities have since time immemorial said that they were <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/fresh-bid-to-repatriate-mbuya-nehandas-relics-from-british-museum-underway/">trying to bring them to Zimbabwe</a> but there are no results to show.

War Veterans in Mashonaland have vowed to resist any eviction from their farms saying their eviction was a western agenda meant to frustrate war veterans.
These remarks come as there are reports suggesting that white farmers are being given back land that was now being possessed by war veterans and other black farmers. The resolution reads in part:
<blockquote>We have resolved to resist the evictions, no war veteran is going to be removed from his land as these evictions are a result of corruption between white farmers and officials at the Ministry of Lands, especially legal officers.</blockquote>
Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZN- LWVA) Mashonaland province chairperson Sam Parirenyatwa told the Daily News that Lands minister Perrance Shiri has promised to solve the issue.
ZNLWVA Mazowe district chairperson Efanos Mudzimunyi, whose farm was also taken, said that the eviction process was not done in a transparent manner as just receive court orders telling them to depart from their farms.

A white farmer in Mazowe has allegedly been kicked off his farm by members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
The farmer, Andreas, Peter and Shaun Livaditakis are the applicants, while ZRP, ZNA, the provincial lands officer and Lands Minister Perrance Shiri are cited as the respondents.
In the court papers, the Livaditakis family said:
<blockquote>When the land reform commenced around the year 2000, the Livaditakis family which included the applicants relinquished Sandown, Jakaals Loop, Oakwoods and Lot 29 Kaba Farms and remained with Goede Hoop Farm commonly known as Goodhope Farm.
This was done on the agreement of the government and applicants, in particular, the third and fourth respondents.
… Sometime in September 2018, the first and second respondents (ZRP and ZNA) stormed the farm and told me that I needed to leave the farm as the farm was now theirs.
I showed them proof that I was in lawful occupation but they had none of that. They forcibly entered that farm and started accommodating in my own structures on the farm…</blockquote>
