The Warriors are aiming for a victory this Monday at Orlando Stadium as they take on the Brave Warriors of Namibia.
This comes on the heels of their 1-0 triumph in the first of back-to-back AFCON qualifying matches last Thursday.
Khama Billiat scored the only goal from the penalty spot, securing Zimbabwe’s first three points of the qualifying campaign and briefly elevating them to the top of the group with five points.
However, the Warriors have since been surpassed by Cameroon, who now lead Group J with seven points following their 4-1 win against Kenya on Friday.
Currently, Kenya holds four points, while Namibia remains at the bottom of the table without a win and zero points.
Speaking ahead of the match against Namibia today, Warriors vice-captain Marshall Munetsi said:

Getting a win was crucial. We have been progressing well, and we knew we needed to win the first game by all means. Namibia tried to play mind games, but we were happy with the three points.
The confidence was already there after our results in Uganda. We know Kenya and Cameroon will cancel each other out. Namibia aren’t an easy pushover, but we need six points from these two games.

Zimbabwe’s match against Namibia last week was played behind closed doors and Munetsi believes having fans in today’s match will be an advantage for the Warriors. He said:

Morocco will host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, having previously hosted it in 1988.
In 1988 only eight teams were at the Africa Cup of Nations, which Cameroon won.
In 2025, 24 teams are set to compete at the tournament after CAF has expanded the competition.

Warriors Set Sights On Victory Against Namibia

Jordan Zemura was voted Man of the Match in Udinese’s 1-0 victory over Lecce in the Italian Serie A on Saturday.
The British-born Warriors defender scored the match’s only goal with a stunning free-kick, striking the ball into the top-left corner in the 75th minute. Following the game, Zemura shared on Instagram:

Zemura’s Warriors teammate, Marshall Munetsi, also found the net for his French club Stade de Reims, contributing to their 4-2 win over Montpellier on Sunday.
Munetsi opened the scoring in the 6th minute, with additional goals from Keito Nakamura (25′), Oumar Diakité (57′), and Teddy Teuma (90+3′).
Both Munetsi and Zemura are set to represent the Warriors in the upcoming back-to-back Group J AFCON Qualifiers against Namibia, scheduled for October 10 and 14 at Orlando Stadium in South Africa.

Jordan Zemura, Marshall Munetsi On Target Ahead Of AFCON Qualifiers

Warriors stand-in skipper Marshall Munetsi says the team is adapting well to the new system introduced by head coach Michael Nees.
The Warriors are in camp ahead of their Group J 2025 AFCON qualifier against Kenya at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda, on Friday.
Zimbabwe will then face Cameroon at the same venue next Tuesday.
Munetsi said everything is going well, and the team is looking forward to a positive result against the Harambee Stars. He said (via <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/munetsi-braces-for-kenya-showdown/">The Herald</a>):

We are starting to see his ideas because we started talking before we came into the camp.

Zimbabwe has faced the Harambee Stars twice this year, starting with their first match at the Four Nations tournament held in Malawi in March.
The Warriors, who were under the interim guidance of FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza, suffered a 3-1 defeat to Kenya.
The two teams met again at the COSAFA Cup, where the Harambee Stars were a guest team in South Africa.
This time, Jairos Tapera of Manica Diamonds was at the helm, and the Warriors were again defeated by Kenya.
Stand-in skipper Marshall Munetsi acknowledged that while Kenya was a difficult opponent, the Warriors have gained valuable insights about their opponents from these previous encounters. He said:

It was a good start for us to get everybody ready to play our first game on Friday (tomorrow).
Unfortunately, we had one or two injuries for some of the guys who didn’t manage to come.
But we are all eagerly waiting and working very hard to make sure that we get our start for the campaign very well. Kenya are not an easy team to play against.
We have played them previously in a friendly game so we know what to do and we are just trying to listen to our coach as he is a new manager coming in.
We are trying to learn more from him as soon as possible.

Munetsi Optimistic As Warriors Adapt To Coach Nees' Game Plan

France-based Warriors captain Marshall Munetsi says the Confederation of African Football (CAF) should introduce video assistant referees (VAR).
Munetsi made the call during a post-match press conference following the Warriors’ 0-2 home loss against Lesotho at Orlando Stadium, Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday.
A Video Assistant Referee is a match official in association football who assists the referee by reviewing decisions using video footage and providing advice based on those reviews. The VAR team monitors the game remotely using multiple screens. 
Munetsi believes the absence of VAR contributed to the Warriors’ loss to the Crocodiles. He said:

We need VAR, especially in African football, because even to talk to the referee is a difficult thing. You try to ask him anything, and the next thing he gives you a yellow card.
For us it’s difficult, we always cry about the situation, but it is also unfortunate because it was not on our side.
Situations like those happen in football and sometimes I think the referee has also to come and allow us to ask.

The Warriors had their first penalty appeal turned down in the first half following an apparent handball.
In the second half, substitute Tymon Machope also had a penalty appeal rejected by the referee after he appeared to have been brought down inside the box.
Zimbabwe’s next 2026 World Cup qualifier is against South Africa on Tuesday at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

Marshall Munetsi Calls On CAF To Introduce Video Assistant Referees (VAR)

Warriors captain Marshall Munetsi expressed confidence that the squad can qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup ahead of their Group C match against Lesotho in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa, scheduled for later today.
Zimbabwe are the hosts in the match which kicks off at 3 PM at Orlando Stadium.
The Warriors and Lesotho are tied on two points from as many games, with Group C leaders Rwanda only two points ahead.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Munetsi, who used to call Orlando Stadium home when he was playing for Orlando Pirates before switching to France in 2019, said morale is very high in the Warriors camp. Morale is very high because everyone is focused on doing something that Zimbabwe has never done, so if we want to achieve something of this magnitude, we have to work as a team.
I think the word captain is just a word that goes on to mention other leaders, including other players, coaches, and staff who work behind the scenes. We work together as a group.
Without belief, we wouldn’t be here. So it’s the belief that brings us here, everyone believes that we can make it so we have to also make sure that the people at home and the people that are going to come and support us have that belief also.
For us, each game is a final because if you don’t win one game, you may fail to make it through. We are very fortunate enough because we drew the first two games away from home, and now we play here in South Africa, which gives us a huge advantage.
So for us, it’s just taking each game as a final and we don’t look far ahead and focus on what we have at that moment.

Munetsi said although the Warriors squad is made up of players from different cultures and tribes, they are bound by a common purpose, playing for Zimbabwe. He said:

We have to integrate as different people from different cultures and tribes. So it’s not a difficult thing you try to respect everyone and find common ground because we are playing for the Zimbabwe national team.
For me, it’s just been an easy job because most of the guys that are here have been together for a long time, and we are good friends, even outside football, so it makes the job that much easier.
Now the squad composition has changed because of the net that we are casting very wide. We used to have a lot of South African-based players, but now we have a lot of European-based players.
It gives us an added advantage because we have a lot of international players playing at the highest level, and most of them are still young, so the future is bright. We have to just be able to manage them and have that continuity.
We need to focus on the game against Lesotho to be able to win.

Munetsi Optimistic About 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualification

Marshall Munetsi’s French club Stade de Reims has donated more than €30 000 to the Marshall Munetsi Foundation.
The Ligue 1 club pledged to donate €100 to the Foundation for every kilometre covered by the Zimbabwean midfielder on the pitch.
Munetsi clocked 301km in the 2023/24 season, which translates to €30 100 for his Foundation. Stade de Reims said in a statement:

301km this season for Marshall Munetsi! For every kilometre travelled by the Zimbabwean midfielder, the Stade de Reims donates €100 to its Foundation!
The Marshall Munetsi Foundation is committed to promoting access to education for children in the country.

Through this Foundation, Munetsi donates 10 per cent of his earnings to provide education for underprivileged children in Zimbabwe. Speaking to FIFPRO in 2023, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/06/06/the-more-i-run-the-more-funds-we-raise-charity-munetsi/">Munetsi said</a>:

When my agent first told me about the new clause in the contract that I was being offered with Stade de Reims, it came as a huge surprise.

Stade de Reims Donates €30 000 To Marshall Munetsi Foundation

Marshall Munetsi, the stand-in captain for the Warriors, expressed strong criticism toward the referees who officiated Zimbabwe’s match against Kenya in the Four-Nation Tournament held in Malawi on Tuesday, March 26.
Despite a valiant effort, the Warriors suffered a 3-1 defeat against the Harambee Stars, with several contentious calls contributing to their loss.
These included a denied penalty appeal and a straight red card issued to coach Norman Mapeza.
In his post-match remarks, Munetsi highlighted how poor refereeing negatively impacts players’ commitment and called for the implementation of VAR technology as a solution to rectify errors made by referees. Zimbabwe finished second at the invitational mini-tournament after winning one match (against Zambia on penalties) and losing the other to Kenya.
The competition provided valuable match experience for the Warriors as they competed against other strong teams like Kenya, Malawi, and Zambia.
The Warriors will certainly learn from their performances, identify areas for improvement, and fine-tune their strategies ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers which resume in June this year.

Munetsi Criticises Referees After Warriors Lose To Kenya

Zimbabwean midfielder Marshall Munetsi, who plays for French Ligue 1 club Stade Reims, is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury. Munetsi sustained a serious sprain on his right ankle during a match against Rennes on Sunday. He was forced to leave the field on a stretcher just 33 minutes into the game after colliding with an opponent.
His coach, Will Still, expressed concerns about the extent of the injury after the match. Still described Munetsi’s ankle as swollen and twice its normal size, indicating a potentially long recovery period. He said:

He has a swollen ankle and it’s double in size. In my opinion, we are going to lose him for a long time. I hope it’s not too serious, but I’m afraid it is.

Unfortunately, those fears were confirmed when it was announced that Munetsi would be out of action until January next year.

Marshall Munetsi Facing A Lengthy Spell On The Sidelines After Suffering An Ankle Injury

Warriors midfielder Marshall Munetsi has bemoaned the state of the pitch at Huye Stadium in Butare, Rwanda, following Zimbabwe’s 0-0 draw against the hosts this Wednesday.
The Warriors were held to a goalless draw by Rwanda in their first competitive match since FIFA lifted Zimbabwe’s suspension from international football in July.
The opening match of Group C of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers was played on artificial turf which Munetsi believes gave the Rwandan players an advantage since they are used to playing on such a surface.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Munetsi also lamented the chances the Warriors created but failed to convert.
In fact, Munetsi put the ball into the back of the net in the 70th minute but his strike didn’t stand as he came from an offside position. He said:

Playing on an artificial turf was much more difficult for us and also with the Rwanda team having an upper hand in knowing how to play in this situation.
We created a lot of chances which we used have capitalised, but it’s part of the game.

Warriors midfielder Marshall Munetsi says Zimbabwe can qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after being drawn in what he considers a “decent” group for the qualifiers.
Zimbabwe were drawn in Group C alongside Nigeria, South Africa, Benin, Rwanda and Lesotho.
The nation which finished top of the group will automatically qualify for the tournament to be hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States.
Munetsi, who plays for Stade Reims in France, and has been a vocal critic of the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) following Zimbabwe’s suspension by FIFA, was quoted by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200014178/munetsi-confident-of-wc-qualification">NewsDay</a> as saying:

The lifting of the ban is great for the nation, it is great for the players; it is something that has been going through our minds that we are unable to represent our country over things that could be sorted out just through discussion.

Munetsi Says Zimbabwe Can Qualify For 2026 FIFA World Cup

Stade de Reims midfielder <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Marshal_Munetsi">Marshall Munetsi</a> donates 10 percent of his salary to his foundation, which helps provide an education for underprivileged children in his home country, Zimbabwe.
Munetsi’s French club introduced a clause in his contract that would see them donate a further €100 for every kilometre run by the Zimbabwean international during play.
Munetsi spoke at length to FIFPRO, the worldwide representative organisation for 65 000 professional footballers, about his journey as a footballer and his charity, the Marshall Munetsi Foundation. When I was growing up, my mother always questioned my longing to be a footballer. She was unsure about the morals of the career choice; about the kind of people these men became when they were introduced into that world of media and money.
I told her that she had to have confidence in the son that she had raised; that the principles she had instilled in me would influence who I am as both a person and a player, and that any platform I developed would be used to make a positive change in this world.

When I heard about the clause, I didn’t need to ask any more questions. I told my agent immediately that I wanted to sign because this was the kind of club that I wanted to play for; one that looks to improve the lives of others and one that helps me to be both a player and person that my mother can be proud of.
We’re not wasting any time either. The contract has already come into effect and I played my first match under it in our league fixture against Lille. It was such a crazy experience.
There was a counter on the big screen so that everyone could see how far I had run, and both my teammates and the supporters were cheering me on, giving me the energy to keep pushing myself.
It was such a tough game and my legs were gone by the end of it, but we took the three points and started something truly amazing beyond the pitch.
Currently, the Marshall Munetsi Foundation supports around 60 children in Zimbabwe that otherwise just wouldn’t have access to education.
Unfortunately, basic schooling is not free in most African countries as it is in Europe and there are so many children whose futures are hugely encumbered by this.
Those who don’t have parents, who perhaps live with their grandparents that have no source of income or who even end up being homeless, have no way to better their situation.
We give them what they need to get a solid start in life, providing them the basics such as school fees, books and uniforms, but also offering a network that goes that extra mile in understanding what they need to succeed.
For example, if they want to play sport, I am there to share my experiences. If they are interested in starting a company, we can connect them with someone in business who can mentor them.
The core value of our foundation is to give as many underprivileged children as possible access to a better education and ensure that young kids have the freedom to make decisions, not from a point of desperation, but a position of strength.
When I was in high school, I got selected to play for the U-17 Zimbabwe national team and I think that at this point I realised that I had a chance of making football into my career; my dreams had put me on the right path and I had the training and education to make the journey.
That wasn’t the norm for my upbringing, though. Getting an education was tough. Most of the kids around me were dropping out of school because they couldn’t afford to be there and had to start making their own way in the world.
There were girls who got married way too early after meeting men who seemed to be able to give them a better life; men who would get them pregnant and disappear from their lives, leaving them in an even more desperate situation than before.
Young guys got involved with drugs because it seemed like quick money, not realising how hard their futures would become.
I started the foundation to give these children a chance to dream of a better future, providing them with the education and support that they need to achieve it.
The goal is to help as many vulnerable children as possible with the funds available and, if the opportunity presents itself, perhaps even build our own institution and hire our own teachers so we can provide education directly.
If it’s successful, who’s to say that we can’t even go beyond that? Who’s to say we can’t help millions instead of hundreds, and not just in Zimbabwe, but all across Africa?
I’m proud of the initiative and hopeful for its future. At the same time, though, the responsibility to educate children should not rest with the occasional footballer, but rather with governments.
Yes, as players we hold privileged positions, and it’s important to remember who we are and where we come from, and to use our platforms for good.
However, the goal isn’t for every successful sportsperson to set up a school for the underprivileged – it’s to raise awareness that there’s an underlying issue that needs to be addressed.
Africa has plenty of minerals and resources. We have more millionaires in government than we do on the pitch. The change needs to start with them.
Even the decision to ban the Zimbabwe national team is already taking away so much from our young population.
Where would I be without the dream of playing for my country? Where is the aspiration for boys and girls to partake in sport, to chase a ball around with their friends in hopes of becoming the next Marshall Munetsi or whoever else they look up to?
These children have had their education taken from them, their sport, and so much else – and it gets to the point where you have to wonder: what’s left to inspire them to a better life?
Helping them is something that is so close to my heart and I can’t explain how much it means to be so supported in my efforts to do so.
It’s not just Stade de Reims who have encouraged me in my activism, but coaches, fans, and even opponents have reached out in support of the new clause in my contract.
My team-mates regularly donate clothes or other items that they think might be useful to the kids and it really doesn’t feel like I’m doing this alone, but as part of a community, and we all know that’s exactly what it takes to raise a kid.
I’m going into next season as a footballer determined to give the best performance for his club in every single game.
At the end of the day that’s what I’m hired to do, and taking home the three points will always be my focus when I step onto the pitch.
I won’t be tracking how far I’ve travelled, but I know that the better I play, the more game-time will be available for me, and the more opportunities to run as far as I can and achieve the best possible results for both my club and foundation.
However, Stade de Reims have shown an interest in my life beyond the 90 minutes; they have shown that they recognise their players as people with lives and goals outside of football – and I think that is such an important factor that is missing in today’s game.
I thank them for the opportunity to not only earn money for a good cause, but to prove myself as a role model both on and off the pitch.
I hope that together we can not only help children back home in Zimbabwe but inspire those in more privileged situations to be the change they want to see in the world; to make football a positive community that we can all be part of.

Warriors midfielder Marshall Munetsi on Friday extended his contract at French Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims to 2027.
Munetsi joined Reims from the South African club Orlando Pirates in 2019 and has scored seven goals this season, two better than his total of five the whole of last season.
In a statement on Friday, 05 May 2023, confirming the new contract for the Zimbabwean, Stade de Reims noted Munetsi’s “exceptional athletic qualities”. Reads the statement:

Marshall Munetsi Extends Stade de Reims Contract To 2027

Warriors midfielder Marshall Munetsi, who plays for French top-flight club Stade de Reims, has been nominated for the Marc-Vivien Foe Award for the year 2023.
The Marc-Vivien Foe Award is an annual football award presented to the best African footballer playing in the French Ligue 1.
Munetsi (26), has scored 6 goals for the Will Still-coached side this season while playing as a midfielder.
Other nominees for the award are Achraf Hakimi, Chancel Mbemba, Habib Diallo, Hamari Traoré, Mama Baldé, Mohamed Camara, Salis-Abdul Samed, Séko Fofana, Terem Moffi, Yunis Abdelhamid.
The Marc-Vivien Foe Award is named after Cameroonian international midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe, who died on the field during a match between Cameroon and Colombia in the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Some of the notable winners of the award include Marouane Chamakh, Gervinho, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Sofiane Boufal, Nicolas Pepe, and Islam Slimani.

Marshall Munetsi Nominated For The Marc-Vivien Foe Award

Zimbabwe’s Sports Minister, Kirsty Coventry, sparked controversy in Parliament after she announced that her Ministry does not want FIFA to lift the suspension on Zimbabwe until “we’ve cleaned up ourselves.”
Zimbabwe was suspended in February 2022 after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the ZIFA board headed by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Felton_Kamambo">Felton Kamambo</a> over alleged maladministration and sexual abuse of female referees. 
FIFA said the suspension of the Felton Kamambo-led board constituted government interference with the sport.
The ban on Zimbabwe can only be lifted when the Felton Kamambo-led board has been reinstated, FIFA declared. Addressing Parliamentarians recently, the Olympics champion said:

We accepted that (suspension). We have never asked them for them to lift. We don’t want it lifted at this point until we have cleared and cleaned up ourselves.

Kirsty Coventry: We Don't Want FIFA To Lift The Suspension

Warriors midfielder, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Marshal_Munetsi">Marshall Munetsi</a>, was on the scoresheet once again yesterday when his French Ligue 1 side, Stade de Reims, beat Toulouse FC 3 – 0 in a league match.
Marshall Munetsi found the net in the 7th minute to double the lead for the hosts after Junya Ito put them in front in the 4th minute.
Yunis Abdelhamid assured victory for Stade de Reims with his 68th-minute strike.
Munetsi previously scored the winner as Stade de Reims overcame Ajaccio 1-0 in a French Ligue 1 match at Stade Francois Coty on January 11, 2023. The Mabvuku-raised midfielder scored the only goal of the match in the third minute of the match.
Reims are unbeaten in their last 17 Ligue 1 games, their longest run in their history, and the best ongoing run in the big-five European leagues. 
With 37 points, Reims are number 10 on the log standings. Log leaders, Paris Saint Germain, have 60 points after 25 matches. 
Munetsi has five league goals in the 2022/23 season.

Warriors midfielder <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Marshal_Munetsi">Marshall Munetsi </a>has once again urged the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) and Zimbabwe Football Association(ZIFA) to find common ground for the country to play international football.

As things stand we continue to lose a generation of talented footballers because they do not have opportunities to showcase their talent during national team assignments, this situation continues to harm not only the future of football in the country but it is depriving the general community of the downstream benefits that football can bring to the social economy of the nation.
I continue to implore to the SRC and ZIFA urging all the parties involved to find common ground and come to an amicable solution that will allow our football to survive as we move into the future.
Our football needs us to find each other and for us to move in one direction and speak with one voice. The partitipation of our country at major tournaments stands to benefit us more.

"Find Common Ground": Munetsi Urges SRC, ZIFA Again

Warriors midfielder Marshall Munetsi was on target as Stade de Reims overcame Ajaccio 1-0 in a French Ligue 1 match at Stade Francois Coty on Wednesday night.
Munetsi scored the only goal of the match in the third minute of the match.
He was, however, substituted in the 77th minute. He now has scored three goals in the 2022/23 season.
The Mabvuku-raised midfielder is the only Zimbabwean player having consistent game time in a top European league.
He has started 15 out of 18 league matches for Reims, who moved to 11th position on the log after beating Ajaccio.
In total, the 26-year-old Zimbabwean international has played 1 161 minutes and has scored three goals.

Munetsi Scores Winner For Reims In French Ligue 1 Match

Warriors midfielder, Marshall Munetsi, on Sunday tied the knot with his girlfriend Nyasha Makove at Umwinzii Gardens.
Munetsi arrived in the country for the wedding, four days ago, from France where he plays for Stade Reims as a midfielder.
The footballer’s French agent, Fredd Ryssen, arrived on Saturday, to witness the wedding.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/nyasha-and-nyasha-partners-its-not-a-law-firm-its-a-family/">H-Metro</a>, Ryssen said he enjoyed the Zimbabwean environment but had to leave the country early due to other commitments. He said:

I thought he was of a special character but I came to know that he is Zimbabwean and I have come to witness the culture.

Warriors Midfielder Marshall Munetsi Weds His Long-time Sweetheart

Warriors midfielder Marshall Munetsi says members of the country’s government-appointed Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) know nothing about football and got their posts through political connections.
The SRC suspended the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) board in November 2021 on allegations of sexual harassment of female referees by technical staff and fraud.
FIFA responded to the move by SRC to suspend the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board suspending Zimbabwe from all international football competitions.
Munetsi, who plays for French club Stade de Reims, told <a href="https://www.bbc.com/sport/africa/63215817">BBC Sport Africa</a> that the FIFA suspension has negatively affected the growth of Zimbabwean footballers. He said:
<blockquote>
The thing is that they never communicate with the players.
These are people who are just in positions because they maybe know someone in government. They don’t know anything about football.
For us, it hurts us a lot because this is our life. This is football and it’s something that can change a nation, that can change a lot of fortunes for the country.
They have to ask us about certain things because, if you hear the accusations, it’s something that doesn’t have anything to do with football – it’s all politics.
FIFA has a say on it, but they also have to communicate with us.

Meanwhile, the SRC refuted Munetsi’s claims, saying its officials are not in power because of government connections but because they have gone through “a robust selection process”.
Munetsi said he supports the SRC’s quest to clean up the governance of the game in Zimbabwe but also wants the Commission to engage players. He said:

This is one thing I can say to the people that are in charge: they have to communicate with the players that are involved because we have so many big players playing in Europe.
It will be a good opportunity for them to sit down and talk with us so that we can all find a way forward.

But the SRC shot down Munetsi’s request saying it cannot talk to players directly as this is against the law. The SRC said:

As guided by the SRC act, the SRC does not engage players directly as this is under the purview of the National Sporting Associations, who relay any key positions and updates from the SRC to their athletes.

SRC Officials Know Nothing About Football, Says Munetsi

France-based Warriors midfielder Marshall Munetsi has implored the Zimbabwean government “to do the right thing” so that FIFA’s suspension of the country from international football is lifted.
FIFA banned Zimbabwe from global football in February because of governmental interference in the running of the game, which is contrary to FIFA statutes.
The suspension came after the government-appointed Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) board in November 2021.
SRC suspended the ZIFA executives because of alleged sexual harassment of female referees by technical staff and allegations of fraud.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.bbc.com/sport/africa/63215817">BBC Africa</a>, Munetsi said the FIFA ban has stunted the growth of football in the country and that of its players. He said:

This ban has affected young players who have the ambition to be like me by coming to Europe.
It’s playing for the national team which gave me the opportunity to play against big countries and big players. It’s something that is sad and frustrating for us as a country, and for players.
It’s a very complicated topic and I just hope the people involved can solve this because FIFA puts these rules [in place] to protect football.
If our government doesn’t respect this, then we don’t deserve to play. I just hope the government can do the right thing and make sure we are able to play in the coming games.

Meanwhile, the SRC says the suspension is unlikely to be lifted before April 2023.
Zimbabwe was excluded from qualifiers for the 2023 Nations Cup because of the ban.

Warriors Star Marshall Munetsi Pays Lobola For Sweetheart

French Ligue 1 club Stade de Reims says Warriors midfielder Marshall Munetsi is not for sale amid reports that the Zimbabwean is a summer transfer target for English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.
Munetsi, who turned 26 recently, returned to his base in France last week ahead of the pre-season preparations that got underway on Monday at the Raymond Kopa Life Centre for the upcoming 2022/2023 French Ligue 1 campaign.
According to MadeInFOOT, the Reims boss Caillot was quoted by L’Union saying:

Munetsi Not For Sale, Says Stade de Reims Boss

France-based Warriors midfielder Marshall Munetsi has spent most of his off-season break back home visiting underprivileged children with the desire to understand how else he can be of assistance.
The 24-year-old Stade de Reims star has been in the country for the past three weeks.
During this time, Munetsi has been focusing on charity initiatives spearheaded by his foundation, the Marshall Munetsi Foundation (MMF).
Last week, MMF donated football kits and soccer balls to Kadyamadare Primary School at his home village Chikwaka. Munetsi told The Sports Hub:

He described his meeting with the Croatian as a “good one”, saying he is looking forward to working with him in the upcoming games.

France-based Warriors duo, Tinotenda Kadewere and Marshall Munetsi have been barred from travelling for the back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Botswana and Zambia next week.
The French Football Federation on Wednesday night said:

Kadewere, Munetsi Out Of Warriors' AFCON Qualifiers

Zimbabwean international midfielder Marshall Munetsi was last week named in the French Ligue 1 Team of the Week by the renowned French newspaper L’Équipe.
That was after the former Orlando Pirates player’s outstanding performance for Stade de Reims during their 1-1 draw with Olympique Lyon last Friday.
Munetsi (24), made 62 touches, two key passes, two tackles, most interceptions (eight) and also won six out of 12 duels, as well as the most clearances (nine).
In recognition of Munetsi’s wonderful performance, L’Équipe, which is one of the most influential newspapers in France subsequently named him among the best 11 for matchday 29, with a rating of 8 out of 10.
In a statement on their official website, Munetsi’s club, Stade de Reims said:

Marshall Munetsi Honoured In France

Tinotenda Kadewere’s Olympique Lyonnais were held to a 1-1 draw by Marshall Munetsi’s Stade de Reims in the French Ligue 1 on Friday.
Kadewere was introduced as a second-half substitute (46′) for Rayan Cherki and scored the equaliser deep into stoppage time from a Memphis Depay cross.
Reims had deservedly taken the lead after 33 minutes when Mathieu Cafaro unleashed a fine half-volley that flew under the crossbar.
Munetsi played the entire 90 minutes, sitting in front of Rheims’s back four in coach David Guion’s 4-1-4-1 formation.
Lyon, who extended their unbeaten run away from home to 13 games, will see fourth-placed Monaco move within two points of them if the principality side wins on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Paris St Germain who are also on 60 points as Lyon, albeit with a superior goal difference, welcome Nantes and league leaders Lille, who are on 62 points travel to Monaco on Sunday.
In a social media post after the match, Munetsi wrote “Points shared in 1-1 draw, [Zimbabwe] the winner and it was good to see my brother Tino Kadewere”.
Kadewere wrote: “10 goals and counting! What a match it was, playing against my brother Marshall Munetsi and sharing spoils… ”

French Ligue 1: Tino Kadewere, Marshall Munetsi Clash Tonight

Tino Kadewere and Marshal Munetsi both scored for their respective French Ligue 1 clubs on Wednesday night.
Kadewere netted the second goal (37′) in Lyon’s 3-0 over Nantes. The other two goals were scored by Karl Toko Ekambi (4′) and Lucas Paqueta (44′).

Meanwhile, Munetsi came off the bench to score his first goal for Stade de Reims as The Red and Whites beat Bordeaux 3-1.
Reims scored first through Yunis Abdelhamid (15′) and Boulaye Dia doubled their lead two minutes later.

Bordeaux halved the deficit through Ui-jo Hwang (73′) but Munetsi (88′) had the final say as he scored his maiden goal for the club. In a post on Twitter, Munetsi said:

Munetsi Nets First Goal For Reims, Kadewere Scores Again

ZIFA has demanded that French Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims release “injured” Marshall Munetsi so that he can be assessed by Zimbabwean doctors.
This comes the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/11/10/afcon-good-bad-news-for-warriors-ahead-of-algeria-clash/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">French team had refused to release the Warriors midfielder</a> for the back-to-back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Red Foxes of Algeria claiming that he had suffered an injury on Sunday.
Zimbabwe plays Algeria on Thursday before the return match at the National Sports Stadium on Monday and Munetsi’s absence is a huge blow for Warriors coach Zdravko Loga Logarušić after some more players including United States-based Tatenda Mukuruva have since pulled out of the ties.
Warriors general manager Wellington Mupandare said they had written back to Reims demanding that Munetsi’s release so that he could be assessed by the national team doctors. He said:
<blockquote>We have asked them to release the player so that he can be assessed by our doctors this side.</blockquote>
Clubs, especially from Europe, have regularly clashed with national teams for the release of their players, and should they refuse to report for national team duty, the club risk a fine by Fifa.

"Our Doctors Will Assess Him," ZIFA Demands Munetsi's Release

Zimbabwe international midfielder Marshall Munetsi has officially signed a new four-year deal with French Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims.
The 23-year-old joined the French Ligue 1 side on the back of what was an impressive season with South African side Orlando Pirates in 2019.
His initial contract was set to expire in June 2023, but he’s now on a new and improved package until June 2024.
In a statement, Stade de Reims lauded the youngster, describing Munetsi as an ‘impact player and delightful man’. Said the club:
<blockquote>In one season, he’s won a whole club! Impact player and delightful man, Marshall Munetsi continues the adventure with Stade de Reims.
The Zimbabwean international (23-years-old) who appeared 21 times this season is now linked with the red and white club, like his sidekick Moreto Cassama, until 2024.</blockquote>
Reims’ president Jean-Pierre Caillot said Munetsi has justified his signing by the club and is “one of the great satisfactions of the season”. Said Caillot:
<blockquote>Marshall justified the confidence placed in him, his state of mind as well as his performances were remarkable. This extension validates a promising first season.
This signature touches me more since I know all the additional work that the player has done to seize his chance.</blockquote>
Munetsi made 21 appearances across all competitions for Reims, including 17 in the league and registered two assists in the process.
