South African premiership reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns have parted ways with head coach Rhulani Mokwena.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 03 July, Mamelodi Sundowns thanked Mokwena for his contribution to the successes and achievements of the club during his tenure as Head Coach. The club said:

Mamelodi Sundowns and Rhulani Mokwena amicably concluded an agreement bringing to an end Rhulani Mokwena’s employment as Head Coach.
Sundowns wishes to express its gratitude to Rhulani Mokwena for his contribution to the successes and achievements of the Club during his tenure as Head Coach.
Rhulani Mokwena will forever be part of the Mamelodi Sundowns Family and the club wishes him all of the very best with his future endeavours.

Mamelodi Sundowns denied reports suggesting that behind-the-scenes tensions between sporting director Flemming Berg and Mokwena led to a mutual parting of ways just a season into the latter’s four-year contract. It said:

The decision of Mamelodi Sundowns was taken by the Board taking into account the objectives and expectations of the Club and was not influenced or based on the recommendation of any individual associated with the Club.
Sundowns is deeply committed to the development and growth of South African coaches and players.
Coach Manqoba Mngqithi and the Technical Team will continue to lead and take control of the training and preparation of the players for the upcoming season.
Mamelodi Sundowns is preparing and focusing on competing in all the upcoming competitions and is honoured to be one of four Football Clubs representing the African Continent in the historic FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

Mokwena, the current reigning PSL Coach of the Year, guided Sundowns to last season’s league title with a record points tally and secured victory in the prestigious African Football League.
He has clinched the DStv Premiership title for the past four consecutive seasons, sharing two with current assistant Manqoba Mngqithi, and two as the sole leader in the dug-out.
Despite these successes, Mokwena has faced scrutiny for not reaching the CAF Champions League final, which he acknowledges has placed pressure on his position.
He boasts an impressive record of 60 wins in 91 matches across all competitions, suffering only nine defeats.
Mokwena has claimed the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup titles, both as co-coach with Mngqithi.

Mamelodi Sundowns Part Ways With Head Coach Rhulani Mokwena

Former Zimbabwean footballer Khama Billiat has caught the attention of Tanzanian football giants, Young Africans, who are also known as Yanga.
Billiat’s contract with Kaizer Chiefs is set to expire on June 30, and he is uncertain whether he will receive a new deal at the South African club.
His manager, Godfrey Bakasa, has not provided any details about the player’s future. Some reports in the South African media suggest that Billiat could receive a one-year contract extension, but Kaizer Chiefs have not made any official announcement yet.
Yanga, who recently won the Tanzanian league, have become the first club to express interest in signing Billiat. They are offering Confederation of African Football (Caf) Champions League football in their bid to lure him to their team. Young African president, Engineer Hersi Ally Said, confirmed that Billiat is one of the players on their radar, according to FARPost. He said:

If you ask me, he’s one of my favourite players. The type of quality he has is out of this world. So, why not, if we can get a chance of having him?

Engineer Hersi Ally Said’s recent remarks echo Vice President Arafat Haji initial statement in which he confirmed interest in Billiat, stating “he is a high-level player that we would like to have in our team.” Haji added:

We know him and we know that his contract is ending. However, he is still a Chiefs player, we must respect that.
We will discuss the signing of players and plans for next season after the season is over.

Billiat, who suffered a long-term injury in November 2020, has recently recovered. Although he has not yet played, he has returned to training with the team, with one game remaining in the season.
The Harare-born attacker joined Kaizer Chiefs from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2018 but has not been able to replicate the form he displayed under Pitso Mosimane at his former club with some observers citing differences in Chiefs and Sundowns’ styles of play.

Tanzanian Champions Show Interest In Kaizer Chiefs' Khama Billiat

EFF deputy leader Floyd Shivambu, a Kaizer Chiefs supporter, agrees with ex-Chiefs and Bafana Bafana footballer Jabu Mahlangu’s claims that Mamelodi Sundowns are “destroying South African football”, <a href="https://www.timeslive.co.za/sport/soccer/2023-01-27-football-must-be-balanced-shivambu-agrees-with-mahlangu-sundowns-is-destroying-sa-football/">reported TimesLive</a>.
Mahlangu made the claims in a video posted on Twitter this week, where he criticised the standard of the DStv Premier Soccer League football. He also accused Sundowns of “hoarding” players.
Shivambu concurred with Mahlangu, saying “hoarding brilliant players is unethical”. Said Shivambu:

100% Agree! Football must be relatively balanced and it should be dominated by money earned in Mining, Financial Services sector and other activities.
The erstwhile dominance of KCFC was through resources earned in and through Football! Hoarding brilliant players is unethical!

Reacting to Chiefs’ 1-0 loss to Sundowns in the DStv Premiership, Mahlangu opined that Sundowns are killing Bafana Bafana. He said:
<blockquote>
We suggested the fair play issue in the PSL. Whether Sundowns fans or not, everyone wants their team to win all the time, but what’s happening now is killing our national team.
They claim they want to help Bafana Bafana get to the top. It’s not possible because our best players are at one team and they are not playing.
How are we going to improve? I don’t want to compare, but Manchester City didn’t buy all the top players in the Premier League.
They are a good team but the league is still competitive. I’m not comparing, I’m just making sense.

Mahlangu said something should be done, adding that even “Sundowns know what they are doing is destroying South African football”.
Sundowns have won the league <a href="https://www.worldfootball.net/winner/rsa-premier-soccer-league/">in the past five seasons</a> (2018-2022) and two of the titles in the preceding four seasons (2014 and 2016).
Kaizer Chiefs won the league in 2013 while Bidvest Wits won it in 2015.

Mamelodi Sundowns Accused Of 'Destroying SA Football'

Warriors midfielder <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kudakwashe_Mahachi">Kudakwashe ‘Kuda’ Mahachi</a> has written a letter following <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/kuda-mahachi-acquitted-of-attempted-murder-charges/">his acquittal</a> by a Bulawayo magistrate last week. 
The former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder was found not guilty of charges of attempting to <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/kuda-mahachis-4-year-old-sons-leg-amputated/">murder his four-year-old son by allegedly scalding him with boiling water. </a>
In a letter seen by Pindula News, Mahachi said he lost everything during the period the case was pending. He said:
<blockquote>
On Friday the 25th of November, after seven months I was acquitted on two very serious criminal allegations of attempted murder and child abuse. During these seven months I saw my whole world turn upside down. I was dismissed from my club with immediate effect and no income, I was vilified by a nation that I once was the football darling of &amp; my fate was sealed through social media without a trial. During these seven months I lost everything I lived for. Seven months of being shunned even by those I played alongside, seven months of death threats, seven months of depression, the list can go on. 
My son, Diego was a victim of negligence at the hands of family members who were meant to look after him at my home in Bulawayo, Diego was diagnosed with Ulcer Sepsis Necrotic (the so-called “flesh-eating disease,” which is a rare but serious infection). The ulcers were on his scalp and his leg. When Diego returned to Zimbabwe on April 14, he was in the care of my two sisters who live in my home in Cowdry park. After a few days there, his condition began to deteriorate, my sisters decided to self-medicate my son by having a local doctor administer injections to him at home without taking him to the hospital. It was only when his septic ulcer’s exploded that he was rushed to hospital. Once examined, medical experts ruled the condition was spreading so fast, his leg would have to be amputated. My sisters were questioned on why they took so long to seek medical help &amp; I don’t know if it was out of the fear of being charged with negligence, but they proceeded to state that Diego had returned from South Africa in that state. 
I am not just a broken man; I am a pained man by what has happened to my son and how I was accused of attempting to kill him despite reports from medical experts. No one cared to give me a chance, no one cared to give me the benefit of doubt. I have played football for the past 15 years for my country and for topflight clubs. Yet despite this, I was accused of using my four-year-old son for rituals. How is it that I have played this game for 11 years before my son was born and suddenly now needed him for rituals for my career? Even fellow football players that I struggled together with as young boys trying to make it in our early careers accused me of using rituals to harm their careers, but what would I have benefited from that? 
I have also silently been a victim of a bitter ex-lover for so long. She accused me of kidnapping and smuggling my own child, yet each time he visited me in South Africa on three separate occasions, he returned in perfect health. On each visit without fail, he was receiving medical check-ups. I have been fighting many battles behind the scenes with Diego’s mother. Diego’s mother had been demanding maintenance of three children (Deneo, Dellish and Diego), (Deneo unfortunately died from hydrocephalus). I had been paying maintenance for years without question until friends advised me to take paternity tests for these children. Results from the paternity tests revealed that only Diego was biologically mine. Upon this news, I stopped paying maintenance and this infuriated Maritha (Diego’s mother) and her mother, who swore to destroy me. She went on to demand I pay her R2,5 million. Even when these false accusations were being levelled against me, they demanded I give them my house in Cowdry Park to end all this, I refused and decided to go to trial and have my day in court. 
I have lost everything I have worked for. It was my dream to play football for my country, to serve my country and represent it. As a man I can no longer feed my family, as all my savings have been depleted in my quest for justice. Yes, I have been exonerated but the nightmare I have gone through can never be erased. I have had my mother’s grave destroyed, my house has been broken into and robbed of everything. I have had cloths marked with my name and my wife’s name left in my yard. My career was ended when I had not reached my pinnacle. How does one recover from that? 
Thank you to those that believed in my innocence, thank you to those that stayed loyal and continuously checked up on me and my family. I am overwhelmed by your kindness and continued support when all odds were against me. Thank you for the prayers. 
To my wife Rose, you have stood by me, been vilified with me, but you have not wavered. To my in-laws who have had to foot my legal bills and feed us in this trying time, May God continue to bless you. To the justice system, I’m grateful for the due diligence that was done in dissecting the many inconsistencies with this case, I can only pray someone out there is willing to take a chance on me, so I can go back to playing the sport that I love and finish my career without this torrid time being how I exit the beautiful game of football.

"My Career Was Ended Before I Reached My Pinnacle" - Kuda Mahachi Letter

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has hailed Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) and former Warriors goalkeeper Washington Arubi as one of the best goalkeepers in South Africa.
Arubi made several vital saves during normal and extra time as well as saving a penalty during a Nedbank Cup semi-final clash against the Premiership champions.
TTM proceeded to the Nedbank Cup finals at the expense of Mamelodi Sundowns after winning 6-5 on penalties. The match had ended 0-0 after 120 minutes.
Speaking on the 35-year-old Zimbabwean’s performance to SuperSport TV after the game, Mngqithi said:
<blockquote>I’ve always like Arubi. I’ve always believed he’s a very good goalkeeper. And today he really showed his quality.
And I am sure there are many other teams looking at him differently because he’s always been a good goalkeeper.
I was wondering why he had to slump down to NFD because he has always been one of the best goalkeepers in the country.</blockquote>

Sundowns Coach Hails Arubi As One Of The Best Goalkeepers In SA

Former Zimbabwe Warriors Captain Peter Ndlovu is facing disciplinary action from Mamelodi Sundowns over alleged “negligence” after the club listed a suspended player as a substitute in their 1-0 Nedbank Cup final win over Bloemfontein Celtic on September 12.
Peter as the Mamelodi Sundowns’ team manager is among the people accused of listing Tebogo Langerman among substitutes despite the player picking four yellow cards in the run-up to the final.
On Monday Mamelodi Sundowns owner and President Patrice Motsepe issued a statement on the club’s official website publicly apologising to “all the supporters” and other stakeholders for the gross negligence. He added:
<blockquote>Our preliminary investigation indicates that the management and technical team were grossly negligent and this behaviour and conduct is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated. A formal disciplinary hearing will be held as soon as possible and the appropriate action, including dismissal where the circumstances legally justify, will be implemented. We are a caring, loving and forgiving organisation but we also have a duty to protect the reputation, integrity and good name of Mamelodi Sundowns. We have to make sure that this kind of grossly negligent and reckless behaviour does not happen again.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane seemed to be throwing Peter under the bus when he said team management must know which player is suspended or not.
Sundowns are lucky that Bloemfontein Celtic’s appeal was dismissed by Safa on a technicality after Phunya Sele Sele lodged their complaint after the stipulated 30 minutes, but, they still face a heavy financial fine for fielding an ineligible player.
Peter joined Sundowns in 2004 as a player when he was coming from England. He retired in 2011 and in 2013 he was roped in as the team manager for the first team.
Some believe <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/king-peter-the-brazilians-unsung-hero/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Peter is one of the unsung heroes at Sundowns</a> who have transformed into a continental powerhouse in the last few years.

Peter Ndlovu Faces "Dismissal" At Mamelodi Sundowns

Absa Premiership side Mamelodi Sundowns have issued a statement on head coach Pitso Mosimane’s contract situation, saying they will not comment on any media report or speculation regarding the matter.
The former Bafana Bafana coach’s contract is ending at the end of June and speculation has been rife regarding his future after talks to renew the deal have stalled in the last months.
In a statement, the club said:
<blockquote>Mamelodi Sundowns has observed over several months the speculation and the false statements concerning several issues including the contract of Pitso Mosimane.
It is the policy of Mamelodi Sundowns not to respond or to comment on speculations or false statements.
In line with the policy and culture of Mamelodi Sundowns announcements on any matter which is important to the Club, including Pitso Mosimane’s contract, will be made when the Club deems it appropriate.</blockquote>
