The death toll from the accident which occurred along Donnybrook Road, Chizhanje area, Mabvuku, Harare, on Tuesday has risen to six, police have confirmed.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the accident occurred around 5 PM.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said a truck and two kombis were involved in the mishap. He said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has established that a Howo truck with one passenger on board veered onto the oncoming traffic lane and side-swiped with a Toyota Hiace kombi with 13 passengers on board before having a head-on collision with another Toyota Hiace kombi with five passengers on board. As a result, six people were killed whilst twelve others were injured.

The ZRP named the deceased as follows:

<li>Felix Javha, a male adult of Hatfield, Harare.</li>
<li>Edinah Ndogwedu, a female adult of Riverside, Ruwa.</li>
<li>Tarisai Chigwande, a female adult of Odzi, Zimre Park, Harare.</li>
<li>Liberty Chitide, a male adult of Tafara, Harare.</li>
</ul>
Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said the other two victims are yet to be identified by their next of kin. He added:

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms another fatal road traffic accident in which three people were killed whilst ten others were injured at the 226-kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road on 21st May 2024 at around 2200 hours.
An ERF truck with three passengers on board encroached onto the oncoming traffic lane resulting in a head-on collision with a Stallion Cruise Bus with 40 passengers on board.

Mabvuku Kombi Accident Death Toll Rises To Six

Six unidentified armed robbers pounced on a service station in Mabvuku on Wednesday and went away with nearly US$10 000.
In a statement, police said the suspects robbed a motorist who was fuelling his vehicle and broke into a safe at the service station using explosives after attacking the security guard on duty.
The suspects took US$9 670 cash from the safe before proceeding to a nearby lodge and attacked a security guard before stealing US$50 and an Itel cell phone. Police said:

Police in Mabvuku are investigating a case of robbery which occurred at a service station in Eastview on 07/02/24 in which six unidentified male suspects who were armed with firearms and wearing face masks, attacked a security guard who was on duty and a motorist who was fuelling his vehicle before stealing US$20.
The suspects gained entry into the service station offices where they broke a safe using explosives and stole US$9 670 cash.
The suspects then proceeded to a nearby lodge and attacked a security guard before stealing US$50 and an Itel cell phone.
Anyone with information to report at any nearest police station.

On Thursday, United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) president Elisabeth Valerio said increased armed robbery cases in the country are worrisome and there is a need to address the root causes of the scourge.
The losing 2023 presidential candidate appealed to churches, civil organisations, politicians and other stakeholders to assist the police in fighting crime.

Fuel Service Station In Mabvuku Loses US$10 000 To Armed Robbers

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the death of two women at Kasi Kasi Bar in Tafara, Harare in the wee hours of 01 January 2024.
In a statement, ZRP Senior Staff Officer [Press and Public Relations] Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said an informant alerted the Police about a crowd and three women lying near Kasi Kasi Bar and the main road which links Mabvuku and Tafara around 3 AM today.
He said the three women were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where two were pronounced dead.
Asst Comm Nyathi criticised motorists who were celebrating the New Year in Mabvuku for alleged rowdy behaviour. Read the statement:

DEATH OF TWO WOMEN AT KASI KASI BAR, TAFARA
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating the circumstances in which two women died at Kasi Kasi Bar in Tafara on 01st January 2024 at around 0010 hours while nearly 2000 people were celebrating New Year’s Eve.
Initial reports indicate that the road leading to Kamunhu Shopping Centre and Tafara suburb was completely blocked by a crowd and haphazardly parked vehicles.
The Police were called in and tried to control the situation with difficulty due to poor lighting. At about 0300 hours, an informant alerted the
Police about a crowd and three women lying within the vicinity of Kasi Kasi Bar and the main road which links Mabvuku and Tafara.
The three women were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where two were pronounced dead.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is conducting full-scale investigations into the incident. The Police caution the public and media against rushing to conclusions as investigations unfold.
The Police is also awaiting a full post-mortem result on the possible cause of death of the victims.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police condemns the unruly behaviour exhibited by motorists and the general public during the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Mabvuku.
We call upon liquor outlet operators to put in place measures to ensure there is adequate parking space for patrons to avoid chaos and stampede during the commemoration of major events.

Two Women Die During New Year Celebrations In Tafara

Harare residents have given the local authority a five-day deadline to address the water shortages in several densely populated areas. This comes as a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/10/18/zimbabwe-health-ministry-reports-alarming-cholera-death-increase/">cholera outbreak has caused the deaths</a> of over 100 people and infected thousands nationwide.
The Ministry of Health’s report shows that Manicaland has the highest number of confirmed cases, followed by Matabeleland South and Harare.
In Harare, where cholera is now widespread, residents suffer from days without clean water, facilitating the spread of the waterborne disease. Through the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, Tinashe Chinopfukutwa and Kelvin Kabaya, residents are demanding the restoration of water supplies to prevent the further spread of the disease. <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Combined_Harare_Residents_Association_(CHRA)/">(Combined Harare Residents Association) Chra</a> &amp; Marian Chatambira, a resident of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Dzivarasekwa/">Dzivarasekwa</a> suburb in Harare, engaged Tinashe Chinopfukutwa and Kelvin Kabaya of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who on Friday wrote a letter to the Director of Works at City of Harare (CoH) asking the local authority to restore water supplies to residents in 4 high-density suburbs of Dzivarasekwa, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Budiriro/">Budiriro</a>, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Glenview/">Glenview</a> &amp; <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mabvuku/">Mabvuku</a>, which have gone for several years without adequate &amp; constant supply of safe &amp; potable running water. 
Through the letter, Chinopfukutwa &amp; Kabaya complained that residents living in these suburbs have been experiencing severe problems in accessing running &amp; potable water from their taps &amp; had been forced to resort to fetching water for consumption &amp; daily use from shallow wells &amp; do not know whether the water from the underground wells is safe for consumption or not. 
The residents, Chinopfukutwa &amp; Kabaya said, fear that the lack of running potable tap water places them at the risk of contracting the cholera disease particularly at this point in time, where there is a cholera outbreak in the capital city. The human rights lawyers said the exposure to the likelihood of contracting diseases is a violation of the residents’ right to a safe &amp; healthy environment as guaranteed in terms of section 73(1) of the Constitution. 
CoH, Chinopfukutwa &amp; Kabaya said, has failed to achieve progressive realisation of the right to safe, clean &amp; potable water for residents of Harare, which is guaranteed in section 77 of the Constitution. To stop the violation of the residents’ right to water &amp; healthcare, the human rights lawyers then gave CoH a 5-day ultimatum to restore adequate &amp; constant supply of safe, potable running tap water in Dzivarasekwa, Budiriro, Glen View &amp; Mabvuku high-density suburbs including supplying bowsers with safe &amp; potable water in these areas.
 Chinopfukutwa &amp; Kabaya also asked CoH to furnish them with the local authority’s water policy &amp; a plan on how it intends to rectify the perennial water shortages in the capital city. Failure to comply with their demand, the lawyers said, would leave them with no option but to institute legal proceedings to obtain appropriate relief in court.

During the 2008 cholera outbreak, Harare, the capital city, was heavily affected with over 4,000 fatalities and around 100,000 people affected.
Despite ongoing water challenges faced by residents, the council’s epidemiology and disease control officer, Michael Vere, stated that progress is being made in raising awareness and preventing cholera. While the issue of water provision falls outside their mandate, Vere mentioned efforts to treat water at nearby boreholes in affected areas to provide clean and safe water to the people. Vere told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200018253/cholera-scare-harare-residents-threaten-to-sue">NewsDay</a>:

We are also intensifying health promotion activities, doing door-to-door campaigns. We are helping in supplying water bowsers daily to places like Southlands, Stoneridge and Hopley where we give daily supplies.
</blockquote>
Vere emphasised the need for long-term solutions to address the water challenges in Harare. He highlighted that relying on water from Lake Chivero, which is heavily polluted, requires extensive chemical treatment and makes the water expensive. He suggested the exploration of alternative water sources to alleviate the city’s water issues.
Cholera is a severe disease caused by contaminated water and poor hygiene. It can be prevented by having clean water, proper sanitation, and practising good hygiene. If left untreated, cholera can be deadly within a few hours. The current outbreak started in Buhera district, Manicaland province, and has now spread to various areas including Buhera, Chegutu, Chikomba, Chimanimani, Chipinge, Chitungwiza, Chiredzi, Harare, Gokwe North, Marondera, Mazowe, Shamva, Mutare, Murehwa, Mwenezi, Seke, and Wedza.

Harare Residents Demand Urgent Action On Water Shortages Amid Cholera Outbreak

Four people were killed along the Harare-Mutare Road near Mabvuku turn-off on Monday, 17 July, at around 5.30 AM following a head-on collision involving two Honda Fit cars.
Police said a Honda Fit vehicle with four passengers on board hit a pedestrian before veering to the right where it collided head-on with another Honda Fit vehicle with one passenger on board.
On Tuesday, ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi released the names of three (3) of the four (4) accused victims. They are:

<li>Roseline Mudzimbasekwa (38), a female adult of Zimre Park, Harare</li>
<li>Sharon Chigwada (46), a female adult of New Mabvuku, Harare</li>

Asst Comm Nyathi said the other victim’s next of kin has not yet been located. He implored drivers to exercise caution on the roads to prevent the loss of lives.

Four Perish In Mabvuku Turn Off Head-on Collision

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on July 17, 2023 at around 0530 hours along Harare-Mutare Road near Mabvuku turn-off. A police report seen by Pindula News states that four people died in the accident, while four others sustained injuries. Police said the accident involved a Honda Fit vehicle with four passengers on board that hit a pedestrian before swerving to the right, resulting in a head-on collision with another Honda Fit vehicle carrying one passenger.

Two Honda Fit Vehicles Collided, Killing Four And Injuring Four

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a manhunt for a motorist who allegedly hit two pedestrians and fled the scene in Mabvuku along the Harare-Mutare Road on Saturday morning.
According to a statement released by the police and seen by Pindula News, the two victims tragically passed away upon arrival at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals. Reads the statement:

The ZRP is investigating a hit-and-run road traffic accident that occurred in Mabvuku along the Harare-Mutare Road on 08/07/23 at around 0300 hours, where an unknown motorist who was driving an Isuzu Double Cab (registration number and colour of the vehicle not recorded) allegedly ran over two pedestrians who had parked their Mazda B2200 on the road side. The two victims sustained severe injuries and died upon admission at Parirenyatwa Hospital.

Zimbabwe Police Seek Motorist In Hit-and-Run Accident That Killed Two Pedestrians

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the death of a 9-year-old girl who died after falling while running away from masquerades (Zvigure) at a school in Mabvuku, Harare on May 15, 2023.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, police said investigations are ongoing. Reads the statement:

The ZRP confirms a sad incident in which a 9 year old girl died after falling to the ground while running away from masquerades (Zvigure) at a school located along Sinini Drive, Eastview Phase1, Mabvuku, Harare on 15/05/23. Investigations are in progress.

Masquerades, also known as “Zvigure,” are traditional dancers who wear masks and perform during cultural ceremonies in Zimbabwe. It is unclear why they were at the school in Mabvuku, Harare, but it is possible that they were hired to perform or were part of a cultural event taking place at the school. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation by the authorities.
The dances originated among the Chewa ethnic group. The Chewa people are primarily found in Malawi, Zambia, and Mozambique, with smaller populations in Zimbabwe and Tanzania.
The history of Zvigure in Zimbabwe can be traced back to the early 1900s when Chewa migrants brought the dance to the country. Over time, the dance has become an integral part of Zimbabwean culture and is performed during traditional ceremonies, such as weddings and initiation rites.
The dance is characterized by its use of masks, music, and colourful costumes, and is often accompanied by storytelling. The masks used in the dance are intricately carved and represent different characters, such as ancestors, spirits, and animals.
Zvigure, also known as Gule Wamkulu in Malawi, is a traditional dance performed by the Chewa people during initiation ceremonies. It has been recognized by UNESCO as a masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity and is considered an important cultural tradition in both Zimbabwe and Malawi.
While the dance is not inherently violent, there have been instances where the use of Zvigure masks and costumes has been linked to violence and criminal activities in Zimbabwe.

Schoolgirl Dies While Running From Zvigure At A Harare School

ZANU PF ward 21 councillor for Mabvuku, Scott Sakupwanya, who is a well-known gold buyer, was voted as the 2022 Councillor of The Year in Harare Metropolitan Province.
Harare Metropolitan provincial secretary Tafadzwa Muguti said Sakupwanya had changed the face of Mabvuku.
Over the weekend, Harare Metropolitan held its inaugural provincial awards, which honoured residents, businesspersons and people who excelled in the fields of arts, sports and others in 2022.
Addressing stakeholders at the awards ceremony, Muguti said:

Many people are wondering how Sakupwanya won the award. Mabvuku was one of the dirtiest places and a councillor went there and bought refuse compactors.
He has been drilling boreholes using his own funds. We want to encourage people to start to know their councillors. We need to hold them to account.

Meanwhile, the Ruwa Local Board won three awards at the inaugural Harare Metropolitan provincial awards.
The local authority bagged three awards for best Harare Metropolitan Council, its mayor Kizito Chivafa was honoured as best mayor, and the board also got the top investment award.
Speaking to NewsDay, Ruwa Local Board town secretary Kumbirai Madanhi said:

Scott Sakupwanya Voted As Councillor of The Year

About 50 MDC Alliance supporters were reportedly arrested while several others were injured when police disrupted a party gathering in Mabvuku on Sunday.
In a statement, the MDC Alliance said those who were arrested were detained at Mabvuku Police Station. The party said:

This afternoon, [police] violently disrupted our Anniversary celebrations in Mabvuku. More than 50 were arrested and detained at Mabvuku Police Station. Several members and supporters have been badly injured.

In a tweet, MDC Alliance secretary-general Chalton Hwende also confirmed the arrests and condemned President Emmerson Mnangagwa for allegedly treating the opposition party as if it was a banned organisation. <a href="https://twitter.com/hwendec/status/1459868896933130244">Said Hwende:</a>

50 MDC Alliance Members Arrested In Mabvuku - REPORT

Two suspected perpetual thieves Monday appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi to answer to charges of house-breaking, including breaking into houses of Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) agents.
Kudakwashe Chirendo (27) and Vitalis Mutinhiri (43), who were both represented by Norman Ndomene, were remanded to this Tuesday for bail ruling.
The first complainant, George Garufu, a retired deputy paymaster at the Salary Services Bureau (SSB) lost his 42-inch LG television and recovered it after the duo was arrested following a tip-off.
The second complainant, Moreblessing Bunure, who works for Tafara and Harare Hospital accounts department reported that her house was broken into on April 9 and she lost a 5kg Cadac and a 3kg MCK gas tanks.
She recovered her properties after the arrest of the suspects.
The third complainant is Tinotenda Kamwendo, whose house was broken into on May 25. She lost a Sony Bravia 42-inch television, which was recovered after the arrest of the duo.
The fourth complainant is Tawanda Jangano, who is employed in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC). His house in Mabvuku new stands was broken into on July 12 and his 65-inch smart TV, an invertor, a car battery, a 5kg gas tank, four 2-in-1 blankets, a bedspread, a sensor light, a three-piece radio and various groceries were stolen.
The value of the property stolen was US$1 800, and property valued at US$562 was recovered.
The fifth victim, Mharadze Zvidzai, is also employed at the OPC. In May, the thieves broke into his house and stole a 32-inch Samsung television, a 5kg gas tank, six-metre curtains and US$10 in cash.
The value of the stolen property was US$320 and the recovered property was valued at US$200.

Daring Thieves Break Into CIOs Houses

A 47-year-old taxi driver from Mabvuku recently appeared before a magistrate on allegations of raping and infecting his minor daughter with a sexually transmitted infection (STI) five years ago.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the minor, told magistrate Estere Chivasa that the rape charges were fabricated by his estranged wife after a dispute over the child’s custody.
The man allegedly raped the minor in 2015 when she was aged 12, and then again in 2019 after she was left in his custody by her grandmother.
Following the rape incident in 2019, the minor reportedly told her aunt who, however, concealed the matter.

Mabvuku Taxi Driver Infects Minor Daughter With STI

Warriors Midfielder Pays School Fees For 60 Kids In Mabvuku

2 Stauch MDC supported perished in a car accident as they were travelling back home after they had come to Harare to attend a<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/11/09/police-blocks-mdc-from-holding-rally-in-mabvuku-on-november-10/"> rally that was banned by the police in Mabvuku. </a>
The 2 died on Sunday after their vehicle collided with another one near Ruwa in Harare. The 2, Paul Chikuni was a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Marondera">Marondera</a> ward 1 branch chairman and he died on the spot while his friend Admire Takawira, who was driving the car was pronounced dead on arrival at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Parirenyatwa_Group_of_Hospitals">Parirenyatwa Hospital. </a>
MDC Marondera Spokesperson expressed the party’s sadness over the death of the 2:
<blockquote>We are saddened as a party because of the demise of our comrades who sacrificed their all for the attainment of a better Zimbabwe. The most worrying thing is that their vision had been cut short courtesy of our roads which are in bad state.

2 MDC Members Perish In An Accident

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Republic_Police" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)</a> has blocked the opposition MDC from holding a district rally in Mabvuku on Sunday.
In a letter addressed to the MDC chairman of Ward 19 in Mabvuku-Tafara, Officer Commanding Police, Harare Suburban District, Chief Superintendent S. Matongo wrote:

The banning of the MDC rally raises several questions, among them; why is the law selectively applied? ZANU PF held an anti-sanctions rally in October in Harare and the ruling party held another rally on Saturday 9 November 2019 in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chiredzi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Chiredzi</a>.
Moreover, the government has told the international community that the repressive law, POSA, has been removed from the statute books yet it is still being used by the police to ban the MDC’s rallies.

Things came to a standstill  yesterday after a man was seen walking through the area dragging two snakes in what is reported to have been a ritual to get rid of the snakes. The snakes were reportedly passed to the man by his father but were now tormenting him, hence the bizarre ritual to get rid of them. The man is said to have been following the advice of a “prophet.”

Video: Bizarre Ritual as man walks around with two huge snakes

In a bizarre incident, a man was spotted walking around dragging two snakes which he allegedly “inherited” from his father for use in  rituals. The man was reportedly working on the advice of a “prophet” who was conducting a cleansing ritual so that he would get rid of the snakes which he claimed were tormenting him. The man was reportedly saying “baba handichada zvinhu zvamakandisiira,” loosely translated to “father I no longer want the snakes you bequeathed to me.”
