Member of Parliament for Chikanga <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Lynette_Karenyi">Lynette Karenyi Kore</a> has reportedly been appointed as the leader of the opposition in parliament by CCC, replacing Amos Chibaya.
Chibaya was recalled by disputed CCC interim secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu and subsequently barred by a court from running in by-elections set for 03 February.
The decision to elevate Karenyi Kore comes after CCC leader Nelson Chamisa resigned from the party on Thursday.
The party subsequently issued a statement saying the CCC’s leadership structure would revert to the officials elected at the MDC Alliance congress in Gweru in May 2019, before the party rebranded to CCC on 24 January 2022.
Karenyi Kore was one of the MDC Alliance’s three vice presidents alongside Welshman Ncube and Tendai Biti.
According to <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/ccc-standing-committee-to-meet-on-new-leader-kore-now-leader-of-opposition/">ZimLive</a>, CCC has called a meeting of its standing committee on Sunday to appoint an acting leader to take over from Chamisa, with both Ncube and Biti expected to attend the meeting.
ZimLive reported a source as saying CCC was also seeking urgent talks with Tshabangu. Said the source:

One of his stated goals was that he wanted to return the party to constitutionalism and collective decision-making.
The resolution to return to 2019 structures achieves that and given that he is the one that is now recognised by parliament and the courts as interim secretary general, we hope he will be happy to surrender the party back to its elected officials.
</blockquote>
Meanwhile, several CCC MPs have taken to social media to show their loyalty to Chamisa and say they “stand with him.”
However, none of the MPs has resigned, but they will be expected to back their words with actions in the coming days.

Karenyi Kore Named Leader Of The Opposition In Parliament

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) vice president, Lynette Karenyi-Kore, narrowly escaped death on Sunday after a car she was travelling in hit a cow on her way from Bikita South.
Karenyi-Kore revealed the development in a Twitter post on Sunday evening. <a href="https://twitter.com/KarenyiKore/status/1533464813531279360">She wrote:</a>

Life is precious. Yesterday, I said I was fine. By the end of the day, I was in a car accident with a cow. Lord, my life is in your hands.
</blockquote>
The CCC Masvingo Youth Assembly said the vehicle Karenyi-Kore was travelling in hit a beast to avoid a head-on collision. <a href="https://twitter.com/CCCMasvngoYth/status/1533419033541894149?s=20&amp;t=E_htRnRxR2C7yXwZfl5CgQ">It said:</a>

CCC Vice President Survives Car Crash Unscathed

MDC vice president <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lynette_Karenyi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Lynnette Karenyi-Kore</a> and party national chairperson <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Thabitha_Khumalo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Thabitha Khumalo</a> came close to a fistfight after a meeting of the national executive council (NEC) in Harare last week, a report claims.
The two party bigwigs clashed over the post of leader of the opposition in Parliament, a position currently held by Khumalo but craved by Karenyi-Kore saying she is the most senior MDC Alliance member in Parliament. The Chronicle quotes its source as saying:
<blockquote>The issue has been going on for a long time and actually there is a resolution of the NEC that Khumalo steps down and pave way for Karenyi-Kore. It was raised again at the NEC last week and a fierce debate erupted until Chamisa ended it before inviting the two senior members to his office after the meeting.</blockquote>
Khumalo denied the reports on Monday saying party leader Nelson Chamisa last week clarified the matter and she remains the leader of the House.
Meanwhile, reports claim that Chamisa backs Karenyi-Kore for the post and that he was waiting for Khumalo to be given a car as the leader of opposition in Parliament before announcing her replacement.
The conflict between Khumalo and Karenyi-Kore reportedly goes back to the party’s national congress held in Gweru last year when Khumalo was backing Lillian Timveous who lost to Karenyi-Kore for the post.

MDC Bigwigs Close To Fistfight Over Seniority

MDC vice president <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lynette_Karenyi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Lynette Karenyi</a> has urged the government of President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Southern_African_Development_Community" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a> to adhere to the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Southern_African_Development_Community" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Southern African Development Community (SADC)</a> resolution to have a 50/50 gender balance in Parliament.
Karenyi-Kore castigated the current quota system where there are a few seats reserved for women saying the arrangement is demeaning to female legislators. Said Karenyi:
<blockquote>Other Parliamentary candidates have started to label the women elected through the Parliamentary quota system as ‘Baccosi’.This is a derogatory slang word used by some citizens when referring to things given for free.</blockquote>
She bemoaned a recent Cabinet resolution to extend the Parliamentary Women’s Quota by 10 years arguing that it was done in bad faith.
Karenyi called on both male and female Parliamentarians to totally reject the Cabinet resolution.

MDC VP Demands Scrapping Of Parliament's Quota System

<blockquote>President Nelson Chamisa is concerned with the deteriorating situation in the country and recognises the urgent need for the people of Zimbabwe to engage this crisis immediately. All social and economic stakeholders must plan to end this crisis. Our young people have a lot at stake and must not allow this country to implode.
Over the last few days, the President has been preparing an alternative government for our country. To begin this process, he has made appointments and assigned duties to officials in the party, to ensure readiness.
Today the President is announcing two bold steps taken as part of the elaborate and carefully thought the process of preparing to serve the people of Zimbabwe and make our country great. The President is doing this in preparation while the citizens consider the resolution of our national crisis.
In preparing the MDC’s task as a government the President understands that our problems emanate from the lack of integrity and accountability in our public work.
The President emphasises that public officials are the human interface between the state and the citizens. He wants local governments, run by his party to be an exemplary interface that is accountable and of high integrity. President Chamisa has zero-tolerance for corruption and any lack of efficacy in public officials.
The President has with immediate effect constituted an Integrity and Accountability Panel (IAP) which shall enforce his zero tolerance to corruption policy. He has provided this team with terms of reference are specific and definitive.
This committee shall perform its duties through a process that includes meeting with all stakeholders such as residents and organised local groups.
The five-member strong panel, that has been carefully vetted, will be led by a very highly regarded lawyer in this country. One who has to this day served this country with integrity and commitment, Advocate Thabani Mpofu.
The President will require him to execute his duties with continued honour and hard work and has instructed him to remain uncompromising in his commitment to the highest standards.
Secondly, the President has assigned duties to his Vice Presidents, as a way of ensuring better efficiency and a smoother operating political party in preparation for an all-star and high calibre government.
He wants a machine that is properly oiled with all its nuts and bolts properly positioned and tightened. Our country cannot take any chances and does not have the luxury of time, and this has informed the President’s assignment of duties to the Vice Presidents.
The President has allocated these responsibilities to ensure the effective execution of his mandate to transform the MDC into a modern 21st century Party of Excellence.
These assignments are put in place in order to ensure the MDC can define a new Zimbabwe and prepare to form the next government and do so very soon. The Vice Presidents shall hold these responsibilities on a rotational basis as shall be determined by the President, from time to time.
In line with the Constitution, the President has designated that with immediate effect the Vice President shall resume working on the following areas.
Vice President, Honourable <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lynette_Karenyi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Lynette Karenyi</a>, will be responsible for supervising all party activities relating to two clusters, which are:
1.Parliament, and 
2.Party Building
Vice President, Professor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Welshman_Ncube" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Welshman Ncube</a>, will be responsible for supervising all party activities relating to the following clusters:
1.Administration, and 
2.International Relations and Diplomacy

1.Policy and Ideology, and

Chamisa Makes Key Appointments In Preparation For An 'Alternative' Govt {Full Text}

It is hoped that the elevation of Hon. Karenyi will help the MDC enhance its regional presence across Africa. Hon. Karenyi was over the weekend elected as the Women’s Academy for Africa (WAFA) Deputy Treasurer General.
The elections were held at the end of the WAFA Training of Trainers workshop that was held at Maputo in Mozambique.
WAFA seeks to promote gender equality based on social democracy, good governance, justice and solidarity. The organisation aims to promote gender equality, and political advancement of women from Labour, Socialists and Social Democratic parties across Africa.
WAFA is currently represented across nine African countries. The countries are Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Uganda and Zimbabwe.
