The Skyline tollgate in Zimbabwe is set to be relocated to the 36km peg along the Harare-Masvingo Road, moving it outside the urban area. This comes as part of the government’s plan to ease the financial burden on motorists living in peri-urban areas who are paying tolls twice daily on their way to and from work. The Shamva tollgate has already been moved from the Harare urban area to the Juru area and is now operational.
The Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) has assured that they have enough funds to support the tollgate relocation. In addition to the relocations, there are plans to upgrade existing tollgates on major highways to accommodate the growing volumes of traffic. The tollgates listed for relocation are Skyline, Dema, Lion’s Den, Umguza, and Shamva, while those to be rehabilitated are Norton, Esigodini, Mushagashi, Mupfurudzi, and Colleen Bawn tollgates.
The tollgate relocations take into consideration traffic patterns, road safety, and the convenience of road users. Zinara will fund the reconstruction, rehabilitation, and relocation of the tollgates. The government aims to involve the people of Zimbabwe, especially women and youths, in road rehabilitation and infrastructural development to benefit from the country’s development policies.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona, along with Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province Charles Tavengwa, recently toured the rebuilt roads in Harare and Chitungwiza. Minister Mhona appealed to the people of Zimbabwe, especially women and youths, to participate in road rehabilitation and infrastructural development, aligning with the policy of “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” (the nation is built by its own people) that President Mnangagwa is promoting. He spoke to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/plans-to-relocate-tollgates-at-advanced-stage/">The Herald</a>:

From Chitungwiza Road we moved to Harare-Beitbridge Road where we have opened 3km today (on Monday), passing through the tollgate and I would also like to deliver the message to the people of Zimbabwe that we are also going to relocate the tollgate. 
I have mandated ZINARA together with the Department of Roads, so that we take advantage of what we have within our ministry, the CMED, so that we start working on a new tollgate at the new site.

The minister said the relocation of tollgates aims to address concerns raised by motorists regarding their locations. Many people have complained about tollgates being situated on their daily commuting routes. As a result, the government is moving the tollgates further out to accommodate the growth of nearby communities.

Plans To Relocate 5 Tollgates At Advanced Stage - ZINARA

A 32-year-old farmer from Mashonaland West, who worked as a farm labourer from a young age, last year pocketed close to US$1 million from his crops.
Patrick Matadi is utilising a rented farm in Lions’ Den and during the current summer cropping season, he has planted 45 hectares of tobacco and 18 hectares of maize.
He is in the process of putting 40 hectares under sugar beans.
Matadi said his father died while he was a toddler and his family was so poor that they could not afford to pay his school fees.
As a result, he had to work as a labourer on Igava Farm in Marondera, Mashonaland East Province, to help put food on the table.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/from-farm-worker-to-million-dollar-farmer">The Sunday Mail</a> during a tour of his farming operations, Matadi said he was assisted by the late former Harare mayor, Solomon Tavengwa. He said:
<blockquote>
When the late former Harare mayor, Cde Solomon Tavengwa, saw my passion for agriculture while working for him on his Marondera farm, he gave me five bags of tobacco fertiliser. That is when I started growing tobacco.
</blockquote>
At the age of 18, Matadi, with the help of his mother and their neighbour, who had a tractor, rented a piece of land and had a successful season on a half-hectare field. He said:
<blockquote>
I planted three hectares of tobacco and got good rewards that enabled me to save for the next season.
</blockquote>
He eventually found land to rent in Lion’s Den, Mashonaland West Province, and now owns three tractors, centre pivots and other machinery. Said Matadi:

This season, I wanted to put over 100ha of tobacco and add over 50ha of maize, then 50ha of beans, but I encountered challenges because the land is not mine.
There are some jealous neighbours who always threaten to sabotage my crops.

Mhangura Member of Parliament Precious Chinhamo Masango (ZANU PF) said Matadi is an example to young people that farming is a business. She said:
<blockquote>
I want to urge youths to learn from this young man. He is a good example to many that agriculture is a big business.
He is a good man. Recently, we had high-ranking officials in the area and he contributed three beasts for the occasion.
If it was not for agriculture, he would not have afforded that.

From Farm Labourer To Million-dollar Farmer... Story Of Patrick Matadi (32)

The Zambian government, through the Ministry of Transport and Communications, has proposed the construction of the Kafue-lion’s den railway line, to run from the Neganega area to the Lion’s Den in Zimbabwe.
This was revealed by team engineering company lead consultant Brian Nkandu during the stakeholder’s consultation scoping meeting for the environmental social impact assessment of the Kafue to Chirundu railway link project in Chirundu district.
Nkandu explained that the railway line will be 304km long from Zambia to Zimbabwe with Zambia covering 95 kilometres from Kafue to Chirundu. He said:
<blockquote>The Kafue-Chirundu railway line lies in Lusaka and Southern provinces, traversing over four districts namely Kafue, Mazabuka, Chikankata and Chirundu districts before crossing into neighbouring Zimbabwe.</blockquote>
Nkandu added that the railway line is a single gauge of 1600 millimetres. He said they have selected the single gauge dimension because it fits both Zambia and Zimbabwe’s existing railway designs.
The proposed railway line will pass through small scale farming areas cutting the Mazabuka road near the turnpike, running south along the tarred Kafue Chirundu main road through Kabanana and into Chirundu border town. He said:
The railway line will cross the Zambezi River into Zimbabwe terminating at Lion’s Den town where it will be linked to railways systems of Zimbabwe to the port of Beira in Mozambique.
Ministry of Transport and Communications Inspector of railways Jordan Zimba urged Chirundu residents to embrace the construction of the railway line as it will attract investment.
