According to police, the kombi, which is owned by the school, was carrying 19 passengers when it veered off the road, overturned, and landed on its side. Police said:

She said that the bus, which was travelling from Bulawayo to Gwanda, was following a Nissan Liberty when the driver suddenly applied the emergency brakes to avoid hitting a group of donkeys.
To avoid crashing into the Nissan Liberty, the bus driver swerved into the lane of oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision with a kombi that was travelling from Gwanda to Bulawayo. Said Inspector Mangena:

Mabvuku Kombi Accident Death Toll Rises To Six

One person was injured when a kombi, a Nissan Caravan, rammed into another, at the intersection of Simon Mazorodze Road and Remembrance Drive in Harare on Thursday afternoon.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the incident resulted in five other vehicles ramming into each other. The ZRP:

ZRP is investigating a serious road traffic accident which occurred at the intersection of Simon Mazorodze Road and Remembrance Drive, Harare on 09/05/24 at around 1408 hours. One person was injured when a Nissan Caravan vehicle registration number AEB 1040 rammed into another Nissan Caravan vehicle registration number AFQ 8137. Resultantly, five other vehicles rammed into each other.

Although the police have not officially disclosed the cause of the initial incident involving the two Nissan Caravan vehicles, kombi drivers frequently evade traffic police at undesignated pick-up and drop-off points, often resulting in accidents.
Numerous lives have been lost, and some individuals have suffered serious injuries due to accidents caused by kombi crews fleeing from the police in the central business district.
Critics often express dissatisfaction with the ZRP’s policing methods, particularly the high-stakes cat-and-mouse chases involving fully loaded kombis that show little regard for human safety.

Police Investigate Harare Vehicle Pile-Up Linked To Kombi Incident

Two people died and seventeen others were injured when a kombi they were travelling in was involved in an accident in Gokwe on Friday evening.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the Toyota Hiace, which had 19 passengers on board veered off the road before overturning and landing on its right side along a gravel road near Mavhulele Village, Gokwe South District, Midlands Province. The ZRP said:

The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident in which two people were killed whilst 17 others were injured when a Toyota Hiace vehicle with 19 passengers on board veered off the road before overturning and landing on its right side on 03/05/24 at around 1700 hours along an unnamed gravel road near Mavhulele Village, Gokwe South. The bodies of the victims were taken to Gokwe South District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital.

On Friday last week, 16 people died in Beatrice when a kombi, a Sprinter, they were travelling in was involved in a head-on-collision with a truck.
The passengers were members of Angels Family Apostolic Church who were on their way to Makumumavi Shrine, Chivhu, and most of them were from Epworth, Harare.

Two People Killed In Gokwe Kombi Accident

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of the remaining five victims of a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 26th April 2024 at the 52-kilometre peg along Harare- Masvingo Road.
16 people were killed in the accident, while 28 others were injured when a commuter omnibus with 44 passengers on board collided head-on with a haulage truck near Beatrice.
On 27 April, the ZRP released the names of 11 of the victims after their bodies were positively identified by their relatives.
In a statement issued this Thursday, 02 May, ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the remaining 5 victims were identified by their next of kin. They are:

<li>Tafadzwa Godgiven Nyandoro (6 months), a male infant of Overspill, Epworth, Harare.</li>
<li>Edson Banga (49), a male adult of Overspill, Epworth, Harare.</li>
<li>Kudzai Lista Banga (28), a female adult of Overspill, Epworth, Harare.</li>
<li>Takunda Katiyo (22), a male adult of Old Tafara, Harare.</li>
<li>Dylance Benjamin Masondo (11), a male juvenile of Zinyengere, Epworth, Harare.</li>
</ul>
In an unrelated incident, three people were killed whilst one person was injured on 01 May 2024 along Simon Mazorodze Road, Waterfalls, Harare.
Asst. Comm. Nyathi said a Honda Fit vehicle with two passengers on board hit a pedestrian resulting in the vehicle veering off the road before hitting a tree.
The pedestrian, driver and passenger died on the spot whilst the other passenger sustained some injuries.
The Police said two of the three victims were identified by their next of kin. They are:

<li>Gumisai Kandime (32), a male adult of Ushewekunze, Harare.</li>
<li>Tapfumanei Chisango (36), a male adult of Ushewekunze, Harare.</li>
</ul>
Asst. Comm. Nyathi added that the other victim is yet to be identified by the next of kin while the bodies of the victims were taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. The injured victim is admitted at the same hospital. He said:

Police Release Names Of Remaining Five Beatrice Accident Victims

The driver of a haulage truck that was involved in an accident that claimed the lives of 16 church members along the Harare-Masvingo highway on Friday last week is facing 16 culpable homicide charges.
Culpable homicide involves unintentional killing due to negligence or recklessness, as outlined in the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
The company that owns the haulage truck had its licence cancelled pending investigations, <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/driver-transporter-punished-over-beatrice-horror-crash/">reported The Herald</a>.
According to Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona, investigations revealed that the driver did not have relevant competency to drive public service vehicles, in line with the Road Traffic Act.
Responding to questions from journalists during Tuesday’s post-Cabinet briefing, Mhona said punishing the driver and cancelling the transport company’s operator’s licence will send a stern warning to drivers and operators of public service vehicles.
Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister, Kazembe Kazembe, said his ministry will work with the Ministry of Transport to ensure that negligent drivers are brought to book and police officers manning roadblocks enforce the law. He said:

We are doing our utmost through the police to ensure that there is law enforcement. And not only that, we are working together with my counterpart, Minister Mhona, to leave no stone unturned in this regard.
For starters, we are going to be investigating every incident of an accident, starting with this particular one that has just happened.
We must ascertain the cause of the accident, whether it resulted from the driver’s poor decision-making, mechanical faults, or bus overloading.

Kazembe said the investigation will seek to establish if the vehicle passed through roadblocks and why it was not apprehended in the event it was overloaded. He added:

We are doing that as an intervention to ensure that we bring sanity to our roads. Secondly, we are also working together with my counterparts to ensure that we will equip our police officers to be able to carry out their mandate, to be able to account for those who are driving under the influence of alcohol and, you know, drugs and substances.

Ministers Mhona and Kazembe later issued a joint statement urging drivers to be cautious on the road during the Workers’ Day holiday this Wednesday.
The statement said police and the Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VID) will be out in full force throughout the Workers’ Day holiday to remove defective vehicles from the roads and enforce other relevant laws.

Haulage Truck Driver Faces 16 Culpable Homicide Charges After Beatrice Horror Crash

The Government has declared the Beatrice road traffic accident which claimed the lives of 16 people on Friday, 26th April 2024, a national disaster.
The declaration was announced on Sunday morning by Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Felix Mhona during an interview with <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/beatrice-accident-declared-national-disaster/">The Herald</a> at the accident scene. Said Mhona:

We are saddened by this tragic incident. Government has declared this accident a national disaster. We wish the injured a speedy recovery and we also send our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
</blockquote>
On Saturday, 27 April, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the accident occurred at the 52-kilometre peg along Harare-Masvingo Road.
According to him, the accident occurred after an Adolph haulage truck with no passengers on board, which was travelling towards Harare, hit a VW Polo vehicle from behind. The VW polo vehicle was travelling towards Harare with no passengers on board.
The impact forced the haulage truck to veer off the road to the oncoming lane and was involved in a head-on collision with a Mercedes Benz Sprinter which was travelling towards Chivhu with 44 passengers on board.
The passengers were members of Angels Family Apostolic Church who were on their way to Makumumavi Shrine, Chivhu.
15 passengers died on the scene of the accident and one of the 29 injured victims passed away whilst admitted at Chitungwiza Hospital.
By Saturday, Police had identified 11 of the 16 victims of the accident. The names of the 11 deceased persons were listed as follows:

Beatrice Road Traffic Accident Declared National Disaster

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has identified five more victims of an accident involving a Toyota Quantum vehicle and a DAF truck that occurred at the 27-kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road on 14 November.
Initially, police released the names of fifteen out of twenty-two people who perished in the head-on collision.
In a statement released today, Monday 20 November, ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner named five more victims of the accident after they were identified by their next of kin. Read the statement:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police releases the names of five of the seven victims who were yet to be identified by their next of kin.

Police Name Five More Victims Of Toyota Quantum Accident

In a shocking development that highlights the deplorable state of affairs in Zimbabwe, the bodies of twenty-two (22) people who were killed on Tuesday night in a road accident at the 27-kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road were stashed in an open truck that delivered their bodies to the UBH mortuary.
The bodies were not placed in body bags but were packed like sardines on the back of a truck, images that surfaced on social media platforms show.

Police said a Toyota Quantum had a head-on collision with a DAF truck 17km out of Bulawayo.
The accident happened just after 10 PM between Muchbinding and Ethandweni.
Police also revealed that the DAF truck had a driver and one passenger while the South Africa-bound Quantum had 21 people onboard.
There were only two survivors who are admitted at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH).

22 Bodies Of Toyota Quantum Accident Victims Stashed In Back Of Truck, No Body Bags

Three people died while seven others were injured when a kombi they were travelling on overturned along the Masvingo-Mbalabala Road on Friday.
Police said a Nissan Caravan vehicle, which had ten passengers on board, burst a front tyre and overturned several times. Police tweeted:

In another road traffic accident that also occurred on 8 September, a Toyota Hiace kombi that was travelling against traffic overturned and landed on its roof in Harare.
Police said the accident occurred at 1.30 PM along Robert Mugabe Road resulting in 12 people sustaining injuries.

Kombi Accident In Masvingo Claims 3

Six (6) people died in a road traffic accident that occurred in Rusape along the Harare-Mutare Road on Friday evening.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident to <a href="https://zbcnews.co.zw/2023/07/29/six-perish-in-road-accident/">ZBC News</a>, saying three people died on the spot while the others died on admission at Rusape General Hospital.
Asst Comm Nyathi said that a Harare-bound commuter omnibus side-swiped a haulage truck, as the driver tried to overtake at a sharp curve before Rusape tollgate.
Six other people who were in the commuter omnibus are admitted at Rusape General Hospital after sustaining injuries.

Six People Killed In Rusape Kombi Accident

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) traffic cops have been accused of causing the death of four people who were aboard a commuter omnibus which overturned on Wednesday morning in Mutare.
The police allegedly tried to stop the speeding kombi by throwing spikes, causing it to veer off the road and overturn several times.
Four people died while ten were injured, some of them seriously. The injured were rushed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.
According to The Manica Post, the accident happened along Vumba Road near CMED and involved a kombi plying the Mutare-Chigodora route. Among the passengers were schoolchildren.
ZRP spokesperson in Manicaland Province Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the accident. He said:

Yes, it is true. The accident happened this morning, but we are still gathering details.
We will duly inform you when we have all the relevant information.

Meanwhile, in a post on its Twitter page on Wednesday afternoon, the ZRP said the commuter omnibus “had a left tyre burst” after it went through a roadblock causing it to overturn and land on a durawall. Read the statement:

Police Spikes Blamed For Fatal Kombi Accident

Four members of the Mugodhi Apostolic Church died on the spot while 14 others were injured in a kombi accident in Nyanga on Friday around 3 PM.
The driver of the Nissan Caravan kombi, which had an undisclosed number of passengers, lost control on curves along the Nyanga-Rwenya Road resulting in the crash.
National spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told The Herald on Friday evening that the congregants were coming from Murehwa. He said:

I can confirm that four congregants from the Mugodhi church died on the spot around 3 PM today on their way from Murehwa after a church service.
The driver lost control of the vehicle on the curves along the road near a black spot where the Regina Coeli bus disaster occurred.
It’s a bloody Easter considering that in two accidents, we have now lost 40 people.
Both accidents have happened in the same province (Manicaland) in a space of hours.

Asst Comm Nyathi was referring to the place where a bus accident claimed the lives of 89 Regina Coeli students on 3 August 1991.
It also came hours after another accident claimed the lives of 36 Masvingo-bound ZCC church members in Chimanimani about 5km before the Jopa turn-off.
The overloaded St Charles Lwanga High School bus experienced brake failure around 11 PM on Thursday before it veered off the road and rolled over 200 metres downslope.

4 Mugodhi Congregants Killed, 14 Injured In Kombi Crash

The death toll in the Mashava commuter omnibus accident has risen to 5 after two more people died at Masvingo General Hospital where those injured were admitted.
Three people died on the spot while 16 were injured when the commuter omnibus burst a tyre resulting in the vehicle overturning along the Bulawayo-Masvingo highway in Mashava.
The accident occurred around 11 am today.
When the ZBC News arrived at the scene, bodies of the deceased were still at the scene while the injured had been ferried to Masvingo General Hospital.
Villagers from Mashava who assisted in lifting the injured onto ambulances said the commuter omnibus was overloaded and appealed to drivers of public service vehicles to exercise extreme caution on the roads.
ZRP Officer Commanding Masvingo District Chief Superintendent Godwin Chikuma said the three who died on the spot were all female, revealing that one of them was an expecting mother.
