Former Gokwe-Nembudziya MP Mayor Justice Wadyajena (ZANU PF) has been shortlisted for public interviews next Thursday to select new commissioners for the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).
Parliament has published the names of 47 shortlisted candidates, with several affiliated with ZANU PF.
Among those set for interviews are Tongai Matutu, Gabriel Chaibva (a frequent interviewee), and former ZANU PF MPs Berita Chikwama, Zalerah Makari, and Kindness Paradza. Former ZEC commissioner Qhubani Moyo is also in the running.
Parliament received a total of 145 nominations for potential appointments to ZACC.
The vacancies arose due to the expiration of terms for all sitting officers this year.
Every five years, the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders selects and submits 12 nominees to the President, who appoints eight to the commission. The President also consults the committee to select the chairperson.
The terms for the eight ordinary members sworn in 2019 ended, prompting the new round of nominations advertised in August.
ZACC chairperson Michael Reza’s term is unaffected, as he was appointed in March this year to replace Justice Loice Mutanda-Moyo, now the Prosecutor General.

Wadyajena Among Candidates For ZACC Commissioner Role

The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal challenging the High Court’s order to release the vehicles of businessman Justice Mayor Wadyajena and his company, Mayor Logistics, which were seized in 2022.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/wadyajena-off-the-hook/">The Herald</a> after the ruling, Wadyajena’s lawyer, Oliver Marwa, said that the appeal by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) was dismissed with costs due to its lack of merit. Said Marwa:

The outcome was that the Supreme Court ruled that the appeal by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, which was contesting the High Court order for NPAZ and ZACC to release the property that was seized by ZACC and the NPAZ from Mayor Logistics and Mayor Wadyajena lacked merit.
When they brought the matter to the Supreme Court, they wanted the Supreme Court to rule that what the High Court had done was wrong.
But the Supreme Court agreed with us that they had no mandate in keeping that property because the High Court judgment by Justice Kwenda was clear that they had 30 days within which to keep that property, but they exceeded two years.
They had been talking about criminal investigations in the matter that they have to visit America to verify how these properties were acquired, but they have not done anything.
This led the Magistrates Court to refuse further remand of Mayor Wadyajena and Mayor Logistics on the charge of fraud and money laundering way back last year. There has been no traction with the ZACC investigation.
There has been no end in sight for the intended prosecution of our clients. So our clients have always maintained that they were innocent, that those properties were theirs and they were legitimately acquired.
So, in the end, justice has won. We have been vindicated by the Supreme Court.

In August 2024, the High Court ordered the return of Justice Mayor Wadyajena’s fleet of vehicles, which were seized by ZACC in 2022.
The seized vehicles, including haulage trucks and a Lamborghini SUV, were part of an investigation into allegations that the former Gokwe-Nembudziya MP (ZANU PF) defrauded the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (COTTCO).
Wadyajena, along with six others, including some COTTCO managers, was arrested and charged in 2022 with three counts of money laundering and three counts of fraud.
They were accused of defrauding COTTCO of millions of US dollars by creating false invoices for the supply of bale ties to the state-owned company.
Prosecutors alleged that the funds obtained from these activities were laundered through various companies in which Wadyajena and his associates had interests.
On February 6, 2023, the magistrates’ court refused a further remand, advising the state to proceed via summons. However, ZACC retained possession of the vehicles, claiming they needed 30 days to conduct parallel investigations.
Wadyajena subsequently applied for and received a High Court order for the return of his vehicles. A judgment in his favour was issued in May, but ZACC appealed the decision to the Supreme Court.
In response, Wadyajena filed an urgent High Court application for leave to execute the judgment while awaiting the Supreme Court’s determination.
In his ruling, Justice Tawnda Chitapi agreed with Wadyajena’s legal team that the continued seizure of his trucks was prejudicing him of potential revenue.
The judge said, “Trucks are meant to be mobile and not be parked”.

The Supreme Court said Wadyajena's vehicles should be given back. They were taken in 2022 during an investigation. He was accused of fraud. But the court said they can't keep the vehicles for so long without a good reason. Wadyajena's lawyer said they did nothing wrong. The High Court had already said to give back the vehicles earlier. The High Court said that the vehicles taken from Wadyajena should be given back to him. His vehicles were taken by ZACC because they thought he did bad things with money at COTTCO. Some people, including Wadyajena, were arrested for money laundering and fraud. They were accused of stealing lots of money from false invoices. The court said ZACC had to return the vehicles, but ZACC wanted more time to investigate. Wadyajena asked the court to make ZACC give back the vehicles. The judge agreed because Wadyajena needed his trucks to make money.

High Court Orders Return Of Vehicles Taken From Wadyajena

19-year-old Arundel School student Jade Jewel Wadyajena scored 15 points in the Advance Level (A’ Level) Cambridge examinations.
Jade, who is the daughter of flamboyant ZANU PF politician and businessman Justice Mayor Wadyajena, wrote History, English Language and Literature in English.
She told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200022083/teenage-girl-excels-in-cambridge-exams">NewsDay</a> that she aspires to be a family lawyer representing the interests and rights of disadvantaged children. Said Jade:

I have always been single-minded in my aspiration to become a family lawyer, in particular representing the interests and rights of disadvantaged children and young people.
I knew that to qualify for a competitive programme, I would need to have strong A Level results and work on being a well-rounded high achiever, at par with the students at Oxford, Durham, Harvard and other schools of that ilk.

There is a general perception that the children of Zimbabwean politicians are poor academically because they are spoilt and are always busy flaunting their parents’ riches, but that was not the case with the bright Wadyajena. She said:

I recognised that coming from a political family was not going to help me in the exam room.
So, I put my head down and focused on my academic and personal development. I was just uncompromising in my determination and I am elated about what I have achieved.
I am indebted to my incredible parents and to the wonderful staff at Arundel School who were exacting, supportive and nurturing.

During her time at Arundel School last year, Jade won several academic accolades; among them were the Library Shield, the Catherine Stevenson Cup (for perseverance), the History Prize, the English Language Prize and the English Literature Prize.
Jade revealed that her dream is to study Law at Oxford or Durham University. She said:

This is just the beginning for me, I am hoping to go on to read law at either Oxford or Durham which have superlative undergraduate law programmes.
I am excited about my future and reaching my very highest academic potential — even possibly following in the footsteps of my father who is currently pursuing a PhD. I am certain I will surpass him.
My advice to students studying for major exams is to go beyond what you are taught in the classroom. Be curious and read widely.
But above all else, it is discipline and consistency that ultimately get you over the line.

Jade had a word of advice for fellow young people, some of whom have fallen into drug and substance abuse. She said:

Wadyajena's Daughter Excels In A' Level Cambridge Examinations

Former cabinet minister Ignatius Chombo has been cleared of all remaining criminal charges, as the prosecution withdrew two allegations against him. Chombo had been facing court proceedings without trial for the past five years, resulting in other charges being dismissed due to lack of evidence.
His initial arrest in 2017 was part of a crackdown on individuals associated with former President Robert Mugabe. The recent charges, which accused Chombo of showing favouritism to Alois Chiimba during his tenure as Local Government Minister, were found to lack supporting evidence by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC). The allegations included the manufacturing of fraudulent documents for the acquisition of a property and the subsequent fraudulent transfer to Chimimba.
Earlier this year, charges relating to the misappropriation of a US$14 billion Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe capital expenditure loan were also withdrawn due to insufficient evidence. Kennedy Madekutsikwa from the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) confirmed the lack of evidence against Chombo.
There are concerns regarding the practice of “catch and release” of individuals perceived to be involved in corruption. This approach has led some to question the government’s commitment to effectively combating corruption. Authorities defend their actions by stating that they cannot detain individuals without sufficient evidence. Supporters argue that it is more prudent to conduct thorough investigations before making arrests, as baseless arrests would violate the rights of individuals and waste taxpayers’ money.
Since President Emmerson Mnangagwa assumed power in 2017, numerous prominent politicians have been arrested on corruption charges, but convictions have been few and far between. Some analysts suggest that the arrests may be politically motivated, targeting Mnangagwa’s opponents, while others believe they are merely a façade to create the impression of action against corruption. Notable figures arrested include Prisca Mupfumira, Obadiah Moyo, and Justice Mayor Wadyajena.

Former Minister Chombo Cleared As State Withdraws All Corruption Charges

Gokwe-Nembudziya Member of Parliament (MP) Justice Mayor Wadyajena claims people in his constituency still love him despite a second round of defeat in the party’s primary elections.
Wadyajena lost twice within a month to former Cabinet Minister Flora Buka.
In the first election whose results were later nullified, held on 25 March, Wadyajena polled 2 180 against Buka’s 3 051.
In the re-run held on 15 April, Wadyajena lost by a bigger margin after he managed 1 822 against Buka’s 5 022. <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/gokwe-nembudziya-people-still-love-me-says-wadyajena-after-second-humiliating-loss-in-zanu-pf-primaries/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> quoted Wadyajena as saying:

The videos of folks kneeling and welcoming me is genuine love that you can’t coerce.

In February this year, Wadyajena and his co-accused who were facing fraud charges among other allegations were freed after the court granted their application for refusal of further remand.
Wadyajena, COTTCO bosses Pius Manamike, Maxmore Njanji, Chiedza Danha and Fortunate Molai were jointly appearing in court on fraud, money laundering, and concealing a transaction from a principal charges.
They were accused of embezzling funds meant for acquiring bale cables and buying trucks.
Wadyajena currently serves as the chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement.

Gokwe Nembudziya People Still Love Me - Wadyajena

Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Justice_Mayor_Wadyajena">Justice Mayor Wadyajena</a>‘s Valentine’s Day pictures which have gone viral on social media have generated a lot of debate, with some Zimbabweans urging the people in his constituency to chose their leaders wisely. 
Wadyajena, who was recently <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2023/02/06/wadyajena-cottco-managers-removed-from-remand/">acquitted of the fraud allegations involving USD 5 million, </a>was pictured with fashion stylist <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Natalie_Mammi_Chloe">Natalie Mhandu </a>near the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France on Valentine’s Day.
After the pictures went viral on social media, some people on Twitter cited the bad roads in Gokwe-Nembudziya, as an example of misplaced priorities on the part of Wadyajena.  
Outspoken Norton MP Temba Mliswa, in a series of tweets,  blasted the people of Gokwe-Nembudziya for the choices they make in selecting their leaders. He said:

It’s disturbing that we still have people voting for politicians like these. This is a guy who has been involved in a US$5 million Cottco case which has disenfranchised many farmers. Here he is lavishly spending the money in a foreign land while we say we are fighting corruption.

Wadyajena's Paris "Valentine's Day" Pictures Spark Fury

Norton Member of Parliament (MP), <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Temba_Mliswa">Temba Mliswa</a>, has said the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) must tell <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zanu-pf-mp-justice-mayor-wadyajena-arrested/">where the US$5 million went</a> if the authority does not have evidence against his Gokwe-Nembuya counterpart, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Justice_Mayor_Wadyajena">Justice Mayor Wadyajena</a>.
Mliswa’s remarks come barely days after Wadyajena (ZANU PF) was <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/wadyajena-cottco-managers-removed-from-remand/">acquitted in a fraud case</a> in which he was being accused of embezzling COTTCO funds meant for acquiring bale cables and buying trucks.
Wadyajena was jointly charged with COTTCO bosses Pius Manamike, Maxmore Njanji, Chiedza Danha and Fortunate Molai. 
In a series of Twitter posts seen by Pindula News, Mliswa said the money cannot just vanish. We present the posts below:

His organisation, @SAPST has always worked with Parliament and it is contrived nonsense that he was working with the Americans. How did the CIO miss that when they vetted the organisation or him? Makamure is an upstanding citizen who is surely regretting working for the Gvt.
It’s very unfortunate when upstanding citizens are dragged into the mud like this by dirty politicians using the power of money to capture the courts and the media. We now know that many criminals are joining @ZANUPF_Official because they want to be protected. It’s a shame.
Ultimately such decisions and actions are an egg to the face of the ruling party. It shows all the talk about fighting against corruption is empty. How do you convince us that you are serious about fighting corruption when such cases flounder?
Why not just give ZACC a certificate to prosecute its own cases if you are serious? They have been asking for it but Gvt is refusing yet the NPA is consistently failing to get convictions. How do you win 4 cases out of 180 dockets&amp; maintain a straight face?
We can’t have a country where the system is only effective in persecuting those who speak out but redundant on progressive issues. Hon Sikhala is there languishing in remand, I have suffered the same with Chihuri but every dog has its day. Seasons pass and the weather changes.
Nobody is convinced that Gvt will effectively deal with corruption. It has only become efficient against those who truly stand up for the people. Biti, Sikhala, myself and many others, we see it. Asi ushe madzoro. That’s a timeous prophecy that requires no invocation to manifest.
We saw those who abused their offices and the law under Mugabe. Where are they now? Politicians still fail to learn and appreciate this epic dictate of life. What goes around comes around. To be safe just do the right things when you have the power.

"If There's No Evidence Against Wadyajena, Where Did The US$5 million Go?" - Mliswa

The Harare Magistrates Court, just like any other government premises, is a hive of activity.
People from all walks of life visit the place for different reasons —some are complainants, some are accused, and others are relatives of both. 
The big billboard inside the premises says justice should always prevail, and more importantly, so does the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Constitution_of_Zimbabwe">Constitution of Zimbabwe</a>.
A few minutes after 8 am on a Monday morning things change rapidly.
Journalists, as well as alert police officers, rushed to an accused person —the former with cameras and the latter with button sticks. 
The accused, handcuffed and under very tight security, is Zengeza West Member of Parliament <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Job_Sikhala">Job Sikhala</a>, who is being accused of<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/its-hard-for-us-to-accept-this-kind-of-cruelty-job-sikhala-jnr-on-his-fathers-detention/"> inciting public violence.</a>
Sikhala has been in jail for over 6 months and denied bail countless times.
The outspoken MP, when it comes to proceedings at the Harare Magistrates Court, is put in the same bracket as triple murder suspect <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jaison_Muvevi">Jaison Muvhevhi.</a> Both are treated as dangerous criminals.
Muvhevi, whose <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/gunman-shoots-4-killing-officer-in-charge-wedza-prophet-and-another-person/">story</a> still shocks Zimbabweans, also arrives at the Harare Magistrates Court 20 minutes after Sikhala.
When the two are taken inside, everything returns to normal. It’s now suspects caught with drugs and illegal substances arriving one after the other. 
Job Sikhala’s son, 23-year-old Job Junior, is seen arriving with his siblings, gloomy-faced and holding a plastic bag containing popular fast food Chicken Inn, possibly for their father, who is reportedly not eating food in prison, fearing being poisoned.
Just before midday, Sikhala’s Gokwe-Nembudziya counterpart <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Justice_Mayor_Wadyajena">Justice Mayor Wadyajena</a> (ZANU PF), arrives.
Wadyajena is also an accused. He allegedly laundered money, US$ 5 million to be precise.
Like Sikhala, Wadyajena is also under the police’s watchful eye, the only difference is the law enforcement agents are not monitoring the ZANU PF legislator, they are star-struck by him.
He is clad in a slick blue suit, blue shirt, pink necktie and black shoes. 
“Honourable,” one of the police officers even shouts excitedly, to which Wadyajena waves.
Three hours later, Wadyajena is <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/wadyajena-cottco-managers-removed-from-remand/">acquitted,</a> and driven away in a Toyota Fortuner.
During that same time, Sikhala is taken back to jail again, to the dismay of his family and close friends, who had attended court in solidarity with the lawmaker.

Harare Magistrates Court: The Centre of Selective Application Of The Law?

Speaking to <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/">Pindula News</a> after the court ruling on Monday, 06 February, Wadyajena’s lawyer, Oliver Marwa, said his client is now a free man. He said:

Once an accused person is no longer in remand, that case is complete for the purposes of the records and there is no longer a fetter on the accused’s right to liberty. They can do as they please, and they can have their passport back.
They can, if they so wish, withdraw their bail recognizance or the money that they deposited for bail with the clerk of court. Essentially, they are free individuals henceforth.

Wadyajena, COTTCO Managers Removed From Remand

The High Court has ruled in favour of Gokwe-Nembudziya MP Justice Mayor Wadyajena (ZANU PF) in a case in which he had sued the Borrowdale Brooke Homeowners Association (BBHOA) after it limited his access to his residence.
BBHOA had deactivated Wadyajena’s vehicle tags and made him use the visitors’ entrance after the association accused the legislator of violating rules governing the residence.
Wadyajena was accused of disorderly conduct and making noise at night, disturbing the peace of other residents.
He, in turn, sued the association saying his rights had been violated.
In his ruling, High Court judge Justice Never Katiyo ordered BBHOA to restore Wadyajena’s access rights to the Borrowdale Brooke Estate. He said:

Whereupon after reading records filed of record and hearing counsel, it is ordered that by consent, the BBHOA shall immediately restore the applicant’s access rights to the Borrowdale Brooke Estate by fully reactivating Wadyajena’s access tags.
The BBHOA and its employees are hereby interdicted from deactivating Wadyajena’s access tags without following due process or the authority of a court order.

Wadyajena Regains Full Access To Borrowdale Brooke Residence

Under fire Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) spokesperson John Makamure reportedly visited President Emmerson Mnangagwa in a bid to the appointment of a tribunal to <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zacc-spokesperson-faces-expulsion-over-corruption-allegations/">investigate his removal from office.</a>
Makamure reportedly visited president Mnangagwa’s farm in Kwekwe on Sunday in the company of colleagues to try to stop the tribunal, but he was denied access to the President, according to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200002134/amh-journos-kicked-out-of-state-house-function">NewsDay</a>.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa eventually swore in <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/president-mnangagwa-sets-commission-to-investigate-zacc-spokesperson/">a three-member tribunal</a> on Monday in terms of Statutory Instrument (172 of 2022) and <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/president-mnangagwa-sets-commission-to-investigate-zacc-spokesperson/">proclamation number 4 of 2022.</a>
The appointees are:
<blockquote>
1). Retired Justice Maphios Cheda chairperson of the tribunal. 
2). Lawyer Charles Warara and 
3). Lawyer Regai Hove.

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs ministry secretary Virginia Mabiza is the secretary to the tribunal.
The tribunal will investigate whether or not:
<blockquote>
i). Makamure failed to disclose his involvement in political activities which is inconsistent with the duties and functions of the commissioner of ZACC 
ii). Makamure directed one Lee Sung to fund his political campaign in Gokwe in return for his protection.
</blockquote>
Through a letter dated October 12, 2022, the Judicial Service Commission formally advised the President that the question of removal from the office of Makamure ought to be investigated.
It is alleged that Makamure was eyeing Justice Mayor Wadyadyena’s Gokwe-Nembudziya parliamentary seat in next year’s elections.
Following the move to investigate him, Makamure is also said to have tried to mend relations with Wadyadyena using top government officials and Mnangagwa’s allies, but Wadyajena reportedly declined the gesture.
The inquiry shall be held both in public and private, as the tribunal deems fit.
Makamure was appointed ZACC commissioner in 2019 following interviews conducted by Parliament. He was later appointed ZACC spokesperson.

Under Fire ZACC Spokesperson Visits President Mnangagwa To Stop Investigations

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has approached the courts questioning a change in bail conditions of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Cottco">Cottco</a> official Maxmore Njanji, who faces a fraud charge involving US$5.8 million.
ZACC cited the acting Prosecutor-General Nelson Mutsonziwa, the clerk of court, magistrates Taurai Manuwere and Marehwanazvo Gofa, senior regional magistrate Ngoni Nduna, chief magistrate Faith Mushure, Judicial Service Commission (JSC), National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and Njanji as respondents.
In an application filed through its executive secretary Sukai Tongogara on September 23, ZACC said it wanted to be furnished with a September 21 record of court proceedings that led to the release of Njanji’s passport.
ZACC also wants the court to give an order to the effect that Njanji’s passport remains in the custody of the clerk until the matter is finalised.
Njanji is being charged alongside ZANU PF Member of Parliament for Gokwe-Nembudziya Justice Mayor Wadyajena and Cottco executives Pious Manamike, Fortunate Molai and Chiedza Danha director for Pierpont Moncroix Mauritius.
They are on $200 000 bail each.
Tongogara said ZACC’s urgent chamber application was motivated by its Constitutional mandate to secure the arrest and conviction of all persons suspected of corruption, abuse of power and other improper conduct which falls within its jurisdiction.
The anti-graft body said it was supposed to be notified of any applications that might seek to vary bail conditions of accused persons whom it would have investigated for offences relating to corruption.
Tongogara said Njanji’s bail conditions should never have been varied as that would jeopardise investigations.

Cottco Corruption Case: ZACC Goes After Court Officials Over Bail Conditions

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Linda_Masarira">Linda Tsungirirai Masarira</a> who leads the opposition <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Labour,_Economists_and_African_Democrats" title="Labour, Economists and African Democrats">Labour, Economists and African Democrats</a> (LEAD) party has called for the release of 16 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members who were arrested in June over the 14 June 2022 violence which erupted in Nyatsime.
Among the arrested are Members of Parliament (MPs) <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Job_Sikhala">Job Sikhala</a> (Zengeza West) and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Godfrey_Sithole">Godfrey Sithole</a> (Chitungwiza North).
They have been in prison since June with courts <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/08/31/zengeza-west-mp-job-sikhala-denied-bail-again-2/">denying them bail on several occasions</a>. 
Reflecting on her past, Masarira said she was once arrested during the time of the late founding leader of Zimbabwe, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a> and she reckons the system under which she suffered hasn’t changed despite the fact that it’s about five years since Mugabe’s departure.
Mugabe’s predecessor, President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a>, is being accused of presiding over a system that violates human rights. Masarira said in a Twitter post seen by Pindula News:

Her remarks echo those of the opposition CCC which argues that its members are being arrested for political reasons.
Government critics argue that the arrests are meant to intimidate and destabilise the opposition ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.
Sikhala is one of the most vocal senior leaders in CCC. 
While the CCC activists are being detained for a prolonged period of time, several political elites accused of stealing millions of dollars from the state are being released from jail and in some cases, their charges dropped, much to the annoyance of the opposition.

The UK embassy has kept corruption-accused ZANU PF Member of Parliament for <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gokwe">Gokwe</a> Nembudziya, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Justice_Mayor_Wadyajena">Justice Mayor Wadyajena</a>, guessing on whether he is going to travel to the United Kingdom or not as it delayed confirming his visa.
Wadyajena had successfully applied for his passport release by the courts a week ago so he could travel to the UK and Germany on parliament business.
Harare lawyer Oliver Marwa told Harare magistrate Taurai Manuwere on Thursday that his client was still waiting for confirmation of his travel to the United Kingdom from the British embassy in Pretoria, South Africa.
The lawyer also said even if Wadyajena fails to travel to the UK, he still has another trip to Germany soon, according to <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/2022/09/fraud-accused-wadyajenas-anguished-wait-for-uk-visa/">ZimLive.com</a>.

They are accused of defrauding Cottco of US$5.8 million in a money laundering scam.
Wadyajena said he intends to challenge his placement on remand by 13 September.
Njanji also successfully filed for the release of his own passport saying he wanted to go to South Africa for a medical examination.
The application was not opposed.
Manuwere said Njanji should return his passport on September 30. 
They were recently granted $100 000 bail each by Harare magistrate Stenford Mambanje.

UK Embassy Keeps Justice Mayor Wadyajena Waiting On Visa

ZANU PF bigwigs in Midlands Province have denied reports that they are pushing for Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena’s expulsion from the party.
Wadyajena and three Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (COTTCO) officials, currently on $100 000 bail each, are accused of fraud and money laundering involving over US$5 million.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200000179/zanu-pf-knives-out-for-wadyajena">NewsDay</a> reported sources as saying senior ZANU PF officials in President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s home province, Midlands, want Wadyajenaa to be expelled for bringing the ruling party’s name into disrepute.
July Moyo, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi and Mike Bimha reportedly approached Midlands provincial chairperson Larry Mavhima asking him to write a letter expelling Wadyajena from ZANU PF. Said the unnamed official:

The trio were unequivocal about their demands. They cited Priscah Mupfumira, who was fired in Mashonaland West for the same allegations.
</blockquote>
Mupfumira, who is the former Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, was expelled from the party following her arrest for corruption.
But Mnangagwa is said to be against the expulsion of his close ally Wadyajena. He reporteldy told Mavhima:

If they want to leave the party, they can. Wadyajena is not going anywhere. How do you expel someone based on allegations?
We will only act after court processes if there is a conviction and an appeal is lodged and he loses.

Mavhima, whoever, told NewsDay that he was unaware of a move to have Wadyajena fired from ZANU PF. He said:

I am sick and tired of people who want to cause divisions in the party.
There are some people who do not want unity in the party.
They just want verbal exchanges serving their own interest.
We are not going to be fighting, we are all united behind President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

ZANU PF political commissar Mike Bimha denied claims he had been approached by Mavima. He said:

ZANU PF is an organised party and it follows due processes. I cannot just pick up the phone and instruct a senior member like Mavima to expel someone.
If there are issues, a disciplinary hearing will be conducted.

Gumbo conceded that he met Mavhima at the weekend but the issue of Wadyajena was not discussed. Gumbo said:

I met Mavhima during the weekend at a party meeting in the Midlands. I did not speak to him about that issue and none of the people you mentioned spoke to me about that issue.
I want to emphasise that I did not meet Mavima privately during or after the meeting in Midlands.

ZANU PF Bigwigs Refute Wadyajena Ouster Plot Claims

Independent Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa said this week that he also has evidence on Justice Mayor Wadyajena’s corruption. 
He was speaking in parliament on Thursday where he said Wadyajena is supposed to step down from his chairmanship of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture.
Said Mliswa:

So, how do people hold Parliament today, how do people hold the Government of the day and how do people hold the ruling party when they are protecting a chairperson?
To me, it is this Parliament which is aiding corruption because I brought this issue up and it was not answered,” Mliswa said adding that Wadyajena has been implicated in many scandals before
I also have evidence on him (Wadyajena) with SFG giving him money and he never brought that SFG to that Parliamentary Committee yet they were an agriculture concern.
At this point in time, with immediate effect, he must step down. It is the best practice even if the rule is not there.
He has no respect amongst his colleagues anymore and unfortunately, the blue eyed boy for vakuru in this parliament has fallen.
I am sure he will fall with many others too because these transactions are quite serious. I have evidence and I will be providing the evidence to ZACC in terms of saying as Parliament, we cannot push for corruption and expose Ministers but we are in the forefront of it.
</blockquote>
Deputy speaker Tsitsi Gezi said she could not comment as the matter was now before the courts.
Wadyajena was <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/08/17/zanu-pf-mp-justice-mayor-wadyajena-arrested/">arrested along with Cottco executives earlier this week</a> by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), and faces US $5m corruption charges. The High Court has ordered the Borrowdale Brooke Home Owners Association to immediately restore legislator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Justice_Mayor_Wadyajena">Justice Mayor Wadyajena</a>‘s access rights to the Estate by reactivating his vehicles’ tags. 
The High Court also ruled that Borrowdale Brooke Estate Home Owners Association should never deactivate Wadyajena’s access tags without a court order.
The Borrowdale Brooke Home Owners Association had barred Wadyajena from accessing his property <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/05/11/gokwe-mp-gives-borrowdale-brooke-residents-sleepless-nights/">accusing him of noise pollution. </a>
They said the Gokwe-Nembudziya MP (ZANU PF) spent more than three hours making noise with his sports car in the affluent suburb.
Borrowdale Brooke Golf Estate Chairman, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Shingi_Munyeza">Shingi Munyeza</a> wrote a letter of disapproval to Wadyajena after residents were reportedly woken up with terrified pets whining because of the noise.
The court ruled:

1 The Respondent shall immediately restore Applicant’s access rights to the Borrowdale Brooke Estate by fully reactivating Applicant’s access tags.
2 The Respondent and its employees are hereby interdicted from deactivating Applicant’s access tags without following due process or the authority of a court order.

High Court Orders Borrowdale Residents To Allow Wadyajena Access To His Property

ZANU PF’s Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator, Justice Mayor Wadyajena, has denied allegations that he has been making noise and disturbing his neighbours in Borrowdale suggesting they would have reported him to the Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP).
Wadyajena was responding to a Twitter post by journalist Hopewell Chin’ono which read:

He claimed that the car cost twice more than the US$210k that was being reported in the media.

"ZRP Borrowdale Is Closer" - Wadyajena Responds To "Noise" Allegations

Huge quantities of tobacco worth US$700 000 suspected to have been smuggled from Zimbabwe, have been recovered in South Africa.
The matter was first reported by a South African publication News24 on Friday, which said South African police found the unprocessed leaf worth 10 million Rand in Eastern Cape.
The publication reports that the tobacco is suspected to have come through the Beitbridge border post from Zimbabwe and that East London police made the bust in collaboration with customs officers.
South African police have since arrested a 31-year-old male suspect for possession of unprocessed tobacco and bribery.
The report comes on the heels of allegations raised by Parliament that the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) is protecting tobacco cartels.
Tobacco Industries and Marketing Board (TIMB) Chief Executive Meanwell Gudu recently refuted the smuggling allegations when they were raised in Parliament. He said:
<blockquote>No smuggling will take place as I am the one who signs export permits, it is a deliberate policy that no unprocessed tobacco should be exported before being shredded and removing the stem.</blockquote>
Gokwe-Nembudziya MP, Justice Mayor Wadyajena (ZANU PF), who leads the parliamentary portfolio committee on Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement insisted that smuggling is happening and blamed the TIMB for allegedly protecting tobacco cartels. Said Wadyajena:
<blockquote>There are companies that are smuggling unprocessed tobacco to South Africa, are you aware of that?
There are merchants who have tobacco plants in South Africa what are their names.
TIMB you are accused of protecting them at the expense of the national interest of value addition policy.</blockquote>
According to the News24 report, 1 279 boxes of both raw and cut rag tobacco were discovered in a warehouse in Eastern Cape.

Outspoken Gokwe Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena has reportedly accused businessman and ZANU PF benefactor Kudakwashe Tagwirei of spreading COVID-19 among the party’s top officials.
In a tweet, Wadyajena lambasted “Mr Superspreader” for flouting COVID-19 control measures resulting in the spread of the coronavirus among top ruling party officials.
Tagwirei allegedly hosted a party in December last year which was attended by several high ranking officials in violation of a curfew order and lockdown restrictions.
Though Wadyajena did not identify Tagwirei by name, a group calling itself the Children of Zimbabwe War Veterans Association (COZWVA) said the Gokwe DCC chairperson’s tirade was directed at the businessman. <a href="https://twitter.com/cozwva/status/1352604050982907905" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">They said:</a>

Wadyajena Accuses 'Mr Superspreader' Of Exposing ZANU PF Officials To Corona

Zanu PF legislator for Gokwe-Nembudziya, Justice Mayor Wadyajena has with effect “immediately” resigned from his Midlands provincial youth league position.
Wadyajena posted on Twitter suggesting he has decided to call it quits due to his age. He is thirty-five. Wadyajena tweeted this Tuesday saying:
<blockquote>Effective immediately, I resign from my position as Secretary for Administration, ZANU-PF Youth League, Midlands Province. I’ll certainly miss my Comrades there but there’s always a time to say goodbye and this is it!
Being over 35, I’m not a youth any longer!</blockquote>
The resignation can be viewed by some as a slap in the face for the 56-year-old Pupurai Togarepi who was until 2019 was the ruling party’s youth league secretary.
The age issue has been topical in recent years in Zimbabwe with some saying the country needs youthful leaders for it to transform at the expected rate.
Meanwhile, the ruling party where Wadyajena belongs has indicated that it may raise the minimum age restriction for presidential candidates, a move believed to be a strategy to elbow MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa out of the race.

Wadyajena Quits ZANU PF Youth League Post

Gokwe-Nembudziya and ZANU PF legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena has said MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa’s political career will not thrive because of the people he associates with.
The ZANU PF politburo member claims that Chamisa is surrounded by a group of violent people, the Vanguard who are misleading him. He said:

With these cheering thugs, Chamisa will never elevate to a respected opposition leader but be a boss to a clueless mob misleading him.</blockquote>
These remarks come after the Vanguard was in 2018 accused of trying to burn alive the MDC-T interim leader, Thokozani Khupe when she was attending the funeral of MDC founding leader, Morgan Tsvangirai in Buhera at Chamisa’s instigation.
His supporters, however, deny the allegations saying Chamisa and the MDC are peaceful adding that it’s rather the ruling ZANU PF which is violent.
Wadyajena speaks when the opposition is accusing the government of kidnapping and torturing its critics who have registered concern over alleged corruption and economic mismanagement.

A vehicle belonging to a company owned by ZANU PF politburo member and Gokwe-Nembudziya Member of Parliament Justice Mayor Wadyajena has reportedly been impounded.
Reports suggest that the vehicle was impounded after the driver was found conducting illegal mining of sand which is a level eight offence.
This comes after a report by the Environment Management Agency (EMA) has suggested that at least 10 percent of the nation’s soil is under high risk of erosion from land degradation, desertification, and drought.
An inspector with EMA, Mr Gilbert Mugunzva, previously said that the mining of sand from dams affect dams’ infrastructure and that is a threat to people downstream who will be affected if the wall collapses.

Justice Mayor Wadyajena's Vehicle Reportedly Impounded

Social media users have expressed outrage over reports suggesting that the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority impounded spares for Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals’ radiotherapy over unpaid duty.
This came after Solomon Harudzibwi, the Chief Executive Officer at the iPark had posted on Twitter suggesting that the equipment has spent months in a warehouse at the airport. He said:
<blockquote>The radiotherapy at Parirenyatwa hospital has been down for the past 8 months. Members of the public said that institutions importing equipment or anything meant to promote the public good should be awarded tax holidays.
Others expressed disappointment over the reports observing that vehicles belonging to political elites in the country were being imported duty-free but life-saving equipment was being impounded.

Outrage As ZIMRA "Impounds Parirenyatwa Hospital's Radiotherapy Spares Over Unpaid Duty"

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Lands, Agriculture, Climate and Rural Resettlement led by Gokwe Nembudziya MP, Justice Mayor Wadyajena has adopted a new approach in a bid to deal with the corruption accused Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ).
The committee is said to have invited millers who are members of GMAZ in their individual capacity after GMAZ led by Tafadzwa Musarara snubbed the first hearing opting to appear before Tendai Biti-led PAC.
Wadyajena accuses the association of <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/02/11/gmaz-should-be-accountable-for-usd27m-it-was-given-for-wheat-importation-justice-m-wadyajena/">misusing US$27 million the government disbursed for wheat importation</a>. On the other hand, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/02/11/full-text-gmaz-say-they-didnt-receive-us27m-from-govt-as-wadyajena-claims-but-actually-lent-its-money-to-govt/">GMAZ says that it was never given the money adding that it actually landed its money to the government.</a>
Zim Morning reports that Wadyajena’s committee has invited Blue Ribbon and Manyame Millers and intends to continue calling individual millers until they reach to their target, Musarara.
A fortnight ago, ZANU PF Youth League accused Musarara of being among the cartels who were engaging in underhand dealings which were choking efforts to revive the economy.

Wadyajena Changes Strategy As Fight Against Corruption Accused Musarara Thickens

Zimbabwe Fertiliser Company managing director, Dr Richard Dafana has said that the exclusion of his company from the Presidential Inputs scheme was a huge cause for concern particularly given their good track record.
Briefing Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement chaired by Gokwe Nembudziya MP, Cde Justice Mayor Wadyajena (Zanu-PF) during a familiarisation tour at the plant in Harare, Dafana said:
<blockquote>We have never failed to deliver any order that we were given. We want preference in Government contracts. We are not crybabies; let us compete fairly, we want a fair opportunity. Also being a Government entity, there must be some merit in considering us.</blockquote>
Dafana added that it is difficult for companies who were not part of the Government orders like Command Agriculture and the Presidential Inputs Scheme since the programmes capture a large number of farmers.
Recently, some farmers have been ditching farming due to drought which saw irrigations drying up, a development reported to <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/10/09/winter-wheat-production-drops-as-irrigation-schemes-dry-up/">have also affected this year’s winter wheat production.</a>
