The Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (ZIMURA) says the World Cup soundtrack being used by SuperSport TV is not one of the late musician John Chibadura’s songs, contrary to claims by the Chibadura family.
Chibadura’s children had approached ZIMURA seeking legal advice after the broadcaster allegedly used the late musician’s song “Mudiwa Janet” as a soundtrack for the FIFA World Cup without approval.
However, in a statement, ZIMURA said that after an analysis of both songs by experts who include local musicians Charles Charamba and Clive Mono Mukundu, it is clear that the song used by SuperSport TV is not Mudiwa Janet. Reads the statement:

Following claims by the late John Chibadura’s family on media platforms that their late father’s song ‘Mudiwa Janet’ was performed at the FIFA World Cup 2022, the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association met with Isabel Nyamukokoko (Heir to the late John Chibadura’s Copyright Estate) on 07 December 2022 to look at the matter in depth.
A thorough research and analysis of the song under comparison was done by ZIMURA.
The analysis included code sequence, code progression, melodies and arrangements while the researched inputs from music experts included:
1) Pastor Charles Charamba, leader of Fishers of Men and also a renowned music professional who holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz from Africa University.
2) Clive Mono Mukundu, a Zimbabwean Music expert with extensive knowledge of music complemented by his Degree in Music Business, Musicology and Technology with the Midlands State University.
3) Dr Dread, a Cape Town music producer with lots of experience in covering different genres and sound track.
Pastor Charamba and Mono have also been members of ZIMURA’s Authentication Panel before.
The research and analysis of both songs have clearly shown that the 2022 FIFA World Cup song did not originate from the late John Chibadura but rather the song titled “Hayya Hayya”  performed by a number of international artists;
ZIMURA’s findings and conclusion were successfully relayed to Isabel Nyamukokoko who fully understood and accepted the outcome.

SuperSport TV World Cup Beat Is Not "Mudiwa Janet" - ZIMURA

The family of the late musician <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/John_Chibadura">John Chibadura</a> is seeking compensation from South African broadcaster, SuperSport TV, for the use of his hit song “Mudiwa Janet” during its live coverage of the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Chibadura’s children have reportedly approached the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (ZIMURA) seeking legal advice after the broadcaster used the copyrighted song as a soundtrack for the FIFA World Cup without approval.
Chibadura’s son, Simba, who took over the band along with his siblings Knowledge and John Junior, <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/chibaduras-family-world-cup-fury-over-iconic-beat-was-mudiwa-janets-beat-stolen-for-the-world-cup/">told H-Metro</a> that SuperSport TV did not pay them for using the song. He said:

We listened to the sound with other family members and we were really shocked at how it ended up being used without our knowledge.
We took the matter seriously after receiving a call from ZIMURA officials that our father’s song was being used as a soundtrack and we are in the dark.
Our eldest sister, Isabel, is the one who is handling the issue and she has since written a formal complaint to ZIMURA but is yet to submit it.
We really suspect it might be someone linked to Gramma Records who might have sold the beat.
As it stands, we are still waiting to hear what ZIMURA will say once Isabel submits our complaint.
We deserve to know how it has come to this point because our father worked hard to raise his profile.

ZIMURA deputy director, William Munanairi, said they were willing to assist the Chibadura family. He said:
<blockquote>
We have made contact with the family to come and have a meeting with us but they did not show up.
It’s our responsibility to assist them so that they get clear answers.

Mr Chitungwiza, as Chibadura was affectionately known by his fans, died aged 42 in 1999 and is one of the greatest musicians ever produced in Zimbabwe.

Chibadura Family Want Compensation For Use Of "Mudiwa Janet" For FIFA World Cup

Music legend John Chibadura reportedly succumbed to stress-induced depression coupled with ballooning debts and loneliness.
Chibadura died aged 42 on 4 August 1999 after spending his last days in courts of law corridors fighting debt collectors.
In an interview with H-Metro, Chibadura’s family friend and son to yesteryear promoter, Landmine Madongonda said the Tembo Brothers founder died a painful death. Said Madongonda:
<blockquote>In the last days of Chibadura, he was very sick and he told me that he was taking Tuberculosis tablets, which he showed me at his New Marlborough apartment along Msasa Avenue.
He didn’t want people to come close to him at that time as he wanted his privacy at home.
Many people who visited him trying to help or cheer him up during his last days were turned away and as he was now staying alone most of the times.
His young kids would come and cook for him but the wife was no longer there.</blockquote>
Landmine, who is the son of the late politician and music promoter Douglas Madongonda, said he was introduced to Chibadura by his late father.
He said Chibadura chased his wife after he caught her red-handed between the sheets with another man.
Besides his alleged marital woes, Chibadura was reportedly wallowing in debts incurred during an aborted tour of Mozambique. Said Landmine:
<blockquote>While Chabadura tried to hide under depression, the late singer had a nasty battle with debt collectors.
He accrued the debts after he toured Mozambique for a couple of weeks where he had hired someone’s truck to carry the instruments.
He was supposed to pay for all the days he spent with the truck there but some of the shows appeared to have flopped and he returned home swimming in debts.
The owner of the truck decided to attach his property and all household goods save for what was in his bedroom.
Chibadura tried to fight back through lawyers but he further lost his musical kit and I don’t know what happened to the house because when he died he was now renting in New Marlborough.
I think the Mozambican tour affected him a lot because didn’t want to talk about it.</blockquote>
