President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly cancelled his inaugural post-2023 general elections thank-you rally, which had been planned for St Noah College in Bocha, Manicaland province on Saturday.
According to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200024915/ed-cancels-marange-trip-over-wayward-church-member">NewsDa</a>y, the rally and church visit were initially scheduled to coincide with the Passover feast.
NewsDay revealed that Mnangagwa decided to cancel the trip on Wednesday due to emerging reports that a church member, Nyasha Marange, had exploited his connections with church leader St. Nimrod.
Marange allegedly coerced affluent church members into contributing funds for the President’s visit.
Nyasha Marange, a member of ZANU PF, currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Mutare West Constituency. Said a NewsDay source:

His actions are tarnishing the image of the church, of which the high priest did not know what Nyasha Marange was doing, which is forcing church members to contribute towards the rally.
</blockquote>
However, Marange denied the allegations saying their church does not force members to make contributions towards any programme. He said:

We are a rich church. We do not need to go to anybody to beg for money, let alone force them to make contributions.
We have many projects as a church and even the government knows all our projects. We grow maize corn, we have dairy cows, we have beef cows, and we do fish farming.
Even GMB [Grain Marketing Board] knows that we always take our grains there.
In all honesty, I would be very happy to see someone who can come and say I forced them to make contributions. Why should I do that?
Our church is rich, we have plenty and we can even go around sharing with others, and even those claiming that we forced them to make contributions.

Mnangagwa is set to conduct “Thank You” rallies across Zimbabwe. These events allow him to address the public directly and highlight government initiatives.
Meanwhile, Marange recently stirred controversy by allegedly asserting his demand for complete control over the US$1.2 million allocated to the Chiadzwa Community Share Ownership Trust.
Additionally, he faced accusations of marginalizing fellow Members of Parliament from Mutare North and Mutare South—constituencies that were meant to benefit from these funds.

Mnangagwa Cancels "Thank You Rally" Set For Marange | Report

A 30-year-old woman from Mafararikwa Village under Chief Marange’s area died last week after enduring pregnancy-related complications for three days.
The woman, Jane Muchichwa (30), a member of the Johane Marange Apostolic Church, died on her way to the hospital following her family’s intervention.
According to <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/dark-day-for-womens-health-woman-dies-with-fetus-arm-sticking-out/">The Manica Post</a>, Muchichwa died with her unborn baby’s arm sticking out of her uterus.
The acting spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Manicaland Province, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed Muchichwa’s death while in labour. He said:

We received a report of sudden death after Ms Jane Muchichwa (30) passed on while giving birth.
On January 14, Ms Muchichwa, who was a member of the Johane Marange Apostolic Church, went to stay at a Johane Marange Apostolic Church prophetess, Ms Rupimo’s homestead in Mafararikwa Village in preparation for delivery as she was nine months pregnant.
On January 15, she started experiencing labour pains and at around 2 PM on the same day, the fetus’ arm and umbilical cord protruded while the rest of the body remained inside.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said Rupimo (pictured above) continued praying for Muchichwa as she assessed her condition. He said:

On January 16, Ms Rupimo told Ms Muchichwa’s husband, Mr Makebho Madziro (43) that she had failed to assist the pregnant woman in delivery and advised him to take her to another prophetess.
That evening, Mr Madziro took his wife to another prophetess, Ms Mahove, for assistance.

Asst Insp. Chinyoka said Muchichwa’s elder sister, Sarah Muchichwa visited her the following day and discovered that her condition had deteriorated. He said:

Ms Sarah Muchichwa phoned their brother, Mr Trymore Chiruka to come and ferry their pregnant sibling to hospital.
Sadly she died on their way to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital the following day. Police from Marange attended the scene.

Chiruka, in whose car Muchichwa died on their way to the hospital, revealed that his sister had earlier been transferred from two other midwives, with all of them failing to deliver her baby.
He said by the time they embarked on the journey to the hospital, the baby was already lifeless, with its hand and the umbilical cord protruding. Said Chiruka:

I consulted her husband on the way forward and he agreed to have her taken to hospital. My other sister, Sarah, accompanied us.
Jane was writhing in pain and crying out for help. After driving for about 7km on our way to the hospital, she died.
I immediately called her husband, informing him of the situation and he advised us to drive back to his homestead.
Police later arrived and ferried the body to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.
Her death could have been avoided if she was taken to the hospital when she developed those complications.
By the moment they transferred her to the third midwife without any success in delivering her baby, they should have realised that her condition required medical attention without any further delays.

Muchichwa was buried last week on Friday in Mafararikwa Village after the post-mortem fetal extrusion process was carried out at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.
Postmortem fetal extrusion or coffin birth is the process whereby an unborn fetus is expelled from the body after a pregnant woman has died.
Mafararikwa Village Head, Crispen Mafararikwa said that Muchichwa was not accorded the usual rites members of the Johane Marange Apostolic Church get when they are buried as she was taken to the hospital in violation of the church’s religious beliefs.
The doctrine of the Apostolic sect does not believe in any medicine or conventional health services.
Pregnant women in the church deliver at home-based “maternity wards” referred to as “chitsidzo”, under the care of church-ordained midwives.

Woman Dies Giving Birth At Home Of Johane Marange Apostolic Sect "Midwife"

A 14-year-old girl from the Johane Marange Apostolic Church reportedly died on Tuesday a few days after giving birth at home in Buhera.
Family relative and lawyer Norris Johannes confirmed Delight Masomeke’s death to NewsDay.
He said Delight, of Bvumbura Village in Chivhu, gave birth to a baby girl on 29 December 2022 at Masasa in Buhera but died three days later. Said Johannes:

The deceased is said to have given birth to a baby girl on December 29, 2022, and remained unwell until she succumbed to (an undisclosed) illness yesterday (Monday).
Her mother Nelia Matarirano is my sister, but the family was not aware that the girl was married.
All we knew was she was at school, only to be shocked by the news of her death yesterday.
Relatives wanted to hastily bury her, but we sought police intervention. We are at the police station filing a report.

Girl (14) Dies After Birth-related Complications

The grave of the founder of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/African_Apostolic_Church_of_John_Maranke">Johane Marange Apostolic</a> sect was allegedly tampered with over the weekend in a suspected ritual case.
This comes amid a continued fight within the family of the late <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Johane_Marange">Johane Muchabaya Momberume</a> over control of one of the country’s largest apostolic sects.
Clements Momberume, the late founder’s eldest surviving son, through his lawyer Passmore Nyakureba of Maunga Maanda and Associates said he filed a report at Marange Police Station.
The security fence at the late founder’s grave was allegedly uprooted by some of the family members and dumped at Clements’ homestead in Marange, NewsDay reported citing Momberume’s lawyer. He is quoted as saying:

We have just filed a police report at Marange Police Station after a perimeter security fence at the late founder Muchabaya Momberume was uprooted and we also found some tampering with his grave.
We were at Marange Police Station together with my client, Clements Momberume.

Clements is said to have unveiled the tombstone on his late father’s grave and erected a perimeter fence where his brother, Abel Momberume is also buried at Chinyamukumba burial site.
Other family members were, however, reportedly against the erection of the perimeter fence because they want free access to the grave to perform rituals.
The wrangle in the sect started in early 2022 following the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/johane-marange-leader-noah-taguta-momberume-dies/">death of another </a>leader <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Noah_Taguta">Noah Taguta</a> who was believed to be 90 years old.
Clements Momberume challenged in court the burial of Noah Taguta at the Chinyamukumba mountain range.
The High Court granted him an interim order barring the burial of Taguta at the sacred shrine in Mafararikwa village. Taguta was buried on the same day that Clements received a favourable judgment.
Noah Taguta was the son of Arnold Momberume, who was an elder brother to the founder, Johane Momberume.

Johane Marange Apostolic Sect Founder's Grave Tampered With In A Suspected Ritual Case

The probe into the child sexual exploitation case of <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/07/28/a-14-year-old-girl-dies-giving-birth-at-shrine/">14-year-old Anna Machaya who died during childbirth</a> at a shrine in Marange last year is now complete and ready for publication.
Machaya’s death made headlines in 2021 prompting the inquiry into the child’s sexual exploitation which led to her demise.
Investigations are now complete and the report has been tabled before Parliament and is ready for publication, ZBC News reported citing <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Gender_Commission">Zimbabwe Gender Commission</a> chief executive officer, Mrs Virginia Muwanigwa. She said this Tuesday:

We have been carrying inquiries following the alleged child sexual exploitation of Anna Machaya who died while giving birth at a shrine in Marange.
The probe has ended and we have since submitted the report to Parliament and waiting for publication.

Hatirarame Evans Momberume (27), the man who had married Anna Machaya, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/01/21/rape-of-anna-machaya-hatirarame-momberume-still-on-the-run/">is believed to be on the run.</a>
He <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/09/03/anna-memory-machayas-husband-back-in-court/">initially appeared in court</a> charged with murder and having a sexual relationship with a minor and <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/husband-of-deceased-14-year-old-anna-machaya-released-on-bail/">was granted bail.</a>
The completion of the probe comes when a <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/9-year-old-tsholotsho-girl-gives-birth-to-baby-girl/">9-year-old girl from Tsholotsho gave birth</a> via cesarean section at the United Bulawayo Hospitals earlier this week.
The 29-year-old father of the minor was arrested in August when it was discovered that she was pregnant.
The girl stated that <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/pregnant-nine-year-old-girl-opens-up-on-sexual-abuse/">her father told her that a goblin would come at night and insert things into her privates.</a> The “goblin” only came when her father was present.

Probe Into Child Sexual Exploitation Of Deceased 14-year-old Anna Machaya Now Complete

Johane Marange apostolic sect leaders spent two days massaging and bathing the late high priest Noah Taguta Momberume’s body with hot water in an attempt to resurrect their leader, NewZimbabwe.com reports.
Members of the Taguta family confided with NewZimbabwe.com that the priest died on Thursday last week but was only announced early Sunday morning after fervent efforts to bring him back to life failed.
NewZimbabwe.com reports that the sect leaders kept Taguta’s death a secret for two days and only announced the sad news only after they had given up on the resurrection effort which went on for two days and two nights.
The sect’s counsels, for the two days, blocked his sons from accessing their father’s body as they performed their rituals and warned them against announcing his demise hoping they would succeed in their undertaking.
The relatives, who declined to be named, said church prophets chased Taguta’s sons away from his palace. One relative said:

After being informed of Mutumwa’s death on Sunday around 8am, we later received news from the palace, around 11am that he had risen from death. Since people were not allowed to enter the palace, the leaders who were allowed inside started peddling falsehoods that Taguta had resurrected.
The priest’s sons, Noah and Nisbert, were chased away from the palace after their plea for church prophets to announce the death. They instead chased them away claiming they were no longer in good books with their father.
They kept massaging the high priest’s body with cloths and washing it with hot water waiting for his resurrection.

Another close relative said there were squabbles which only subsided after headman Mafararikwa intervened.
The source said that is when a consensus to announce the death was reached and then people started to properly mourn. Added the source:

Headman Mafararikwa was given the opportunity to check inside and they realised that Mutumwa’s body was now in an inflammation state. The corpse was now decomposing. A coffin was then brought. Had it not been for the cold spell, Mutumwa’s body could have burst.

Taguta is survived by 25 official wives, and more who are alleged to have been offered to him during the church’s gatherings numbering over a hundred.
He is said to have left 120 children.

Johane Marange Church Leaders Concealed Taguta's Death As They Attempted To Resurrect Him - Report

The government has been blamed for “condoning” child marriages, a practice widespread in the Johane Marange apostolic sect. This follows the death of Memory Machaya, a 14-year-old girl who died at a Marange church shrine while giving birth to her first baby.
Several voices have been calling the government to act and authorities have so far conducted investigations only.
Theologian Lewis Emmanuel Chasara accuses the government of “continuously letting us down by letting the Johane Marange sect continue its practice of child marriages.” He said:
<blockquote>
 The current government has been in a long relationship with the Johane Marange sect but has failed to confront them about the issue of child marriages this meaning that our own government continued to look the other way on this issue of child marriages being practised by the Johane Marange Sect. Memory Machaya was a minor and the Johane Marange sect influenced her death due to their common practice of child marriages.
The Johane Marange sect is known for its ignorance when it comes to professional medical health care. The Johane Marange sect discourages modern health care. This is seen when Memory Machaya was denied health care and medicine. Memory Machaya was denied visits to the clinic even if they knew she was pregnant but the Johane Marange sect denies any visits to a doctor or clinic/hospital. Hence this resulting in Memory Machaya’s death. Salt and water are considered the only medicine in this white garment sect. As for the death of Memory Machaya, it is a clear murder since she was poisoned by paraffin which was poured into her nose this catalysing her death. If Memory Machaya was sent to the hospital in time of her sickness she would probably be alive today.
</blockquote>
He added that the Zimbabwe Republic Police is not enforcing the law of child marriages and the Johane Marange sect, therefore, takes advantage of this inaction or negligence by law enforcers.
Chasara called upon members of the public to fight against child marriages “for a better tomorrow.”
